Margaret E. Bange

WILLIAMSPORT - Margaret Elizabeth Bange, 92, of 16505 Virginia Ave., died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at Homewood Retirement Center, Williamsport.

Born June 30, 1905, in Fowblesburgh, Md., she was the daughter of the late Newton and Elva Jackson Watts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester K. Bange, in 1993.

She was a graduate of Peabody Conservatory of Music.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Active in local music circles, she was president of Treble Clef Club; and Community Concert Association. She also was active in Zonta; as a sorority adviser; and in the Women's Club.

She is survived by one daughter, Betty Kuczynski of Williamsport; three grandchildren, Edward Kuczynski of Williamsport, Karen Miller of Wheaton, Ill., and Anne Lohr of Somerset, Pa.; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Hatti Watts Thompson; and one brother, Thomas Watts.

Memorial services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Christopher J. Chantelau will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Memorial donations may be made to Maryland Symphony Orchestra, Potomac Street, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Charles Richard Startzman

Charles Richard "Dick" Startzman, 68, of Linwood Road Extended, Hagerstown, died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at his home.

Born July 3, 1929, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Charles Jeremiah and Edna Belle Grossnickle Startzman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jane Startzman, in 1993.

He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School. He attended Mount St. Mary's College.

He owned and operated Dick's Package Liquor Store.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by seven daughters, Karin Nicol and Cynthia McDonald, both of Hagerstown; Catherine Paul of Hanover, Pa.; Mary Weicht and Theresa Hottle of Martinsburg, W.Va.; Patricia Stolarz of Abingdon, Md., and Laura Anderson of Williamsport; one sister, Patricia Ridenour of Staunton, Va.; one brother, Robert Startzman of Hagerstown; one aunt; nieces and nephews; 21 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Startzman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 17630 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward W. Manalis will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, where a rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Youth Group Ministries, 17630 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Betty J. Poole

BOONSBORO - Betty Jane Poole, 70, of 12 Schoolhouse Court, Boonsboro, died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.

Born Oct. 30, 1927, in Boonsboro, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Edna C. Stottlemyer Brandenburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard E. Poole Sr., in 1993.

She was a former employee of Laiglon in Hagerstown; and was owner and operator of Evonne Kay Inc., clothing manufacturer in Waynesboro, Pa., and Hagerstown. After her retirement, she was employed in the post offices in Keedysville and Sharpsburg.

She was a member of Mount Lena United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.

She was a member of Mount Lena Senior Citizens and Mount Lena Recreation Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Evonne J. Cave of Hagerstown and Kimberly M. Stransky of Falling Waters, W.Va.; one son, Richard E. "Dick" Poole Jr. of Boonsboro; three sisters, Glendora R. Ballam, Phyllis I. Easterday and Jeanette A. Easterday, all of Boonsboro; one brother, George I. Brandenburg of Valrico, Fla.; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two aunts; one uncle; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Mount Lena United Methodist Church. The Rev. Elza Hurst will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Lena Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.

Lorraine M. Palmer

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Lorraine Margaret Palmer, 67, of Westminster, died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at her home.

Born March 7, 1931, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late William T. and Margaret Elizabeth Schaller Yost.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Palmer Sr.

She was a 1948 graduate of Patterson High School.

She retired from Carroll County General Hospital, as a nurse's aide in the medical records department. Most recently, she worked for Random House Inc.

She was a member of St. Benjamin (Kriders) Lutheran Church.

She was a member of Westminster Senior Citizens.

She is survived by two sons, Robert E. Palmer Jr. of Littlestown, Pa., and William "Bill" L. Palmer of Owings Mills, Md.; two daughters, Denise M. Hobby of Taneytown, Md., and Wendy A. Frick of Red Lion, Pa.; two brothers, Daniel Yost of Georgetown, Del., and Leroy W. Yost of Dunedin, Fla.; three sisters, Deanna Y. Poland of Lebanon, Ind., Joan Y. Olp of Glen Burnie, Md., and Mildred Y. Desell of Baltimore; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Yost and Kenneth Yost.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster. The Rev. David Schafer will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Finksburg, Md.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home; and Thursday one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Benjamin's Lutheran Church, 700 Kriders Church Road, Westminster, Md. 21158.

Shirley E. Paquet

Shirley Elizabeth Paquet, 63, of 11407 Greenberry Road, Hagerstown, who died Saturday, April 11, 1998, is survived by two daughters, Sharon Neff of Boonsboro and Becky Darby of Hedgesville, W.Va.

Grace E. Bidle

MYERSVILLE, Md. - Grace Elizabeth Bidle, 92, of 9025 Myersville Road in Myersville, died Tuesday, April 14, at her home.

Born Jan. 9, 1906, in Middletown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Phillip Edward and Elizabeth Remsburg Flook.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter S. Bidle, in 1968.

She was a 1925 graduate of Middletown High School.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown.

She was a member of Middletown Food and Friends and the Rainbow Belles.

She is survived by five daughters, JoAnna L. Sefsic and Grace V. Bowlus of Middletown, Cheryl Warrenfeltz of Myersville, Gloria E. Ritchie of Hagerstown and Catherine Fogle of Frederick, Md.; six sons, Larry T. Bidle of Myersville, Arthur K. Bidle of Severna Park, Md., Grayson E. Bidle, Ronald D. Bidle, Drexel A. Bidle and Jerry Bidle, all of Middletown; two brothers, Elvin W. Flook of Middletown and V. Marshall Flook of Frederick; 38 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Walter Bidle III and Bernard W. Bidle; two sisters, Mary Flook Wiles and Catherine Flook; four brothers, Hiram S. R. Flook, Ernest Flook, Arthur Flook and her twin, Grayson Flook.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown. The Rev. William M. Bucher will officiate. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown.

Friends may call any time Thursday at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home or Friday, at the church one hour prior to the service.

Joseph R. O'Meara

DOVER, Del. - Joseph Reid O'Meara, 77, of 515 Brenford Road, and formerly of Clinton, Md., died Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at Williamsport Nursing Home, Williamsport.

Born Jan. 9, 1921, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late E.M. Reid and Margaret Barry O'Meara.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta L. O'Meara, in 1994.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

He was employed with Ben Dyer and Associates, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of St. John's Evangelist Catholic Church, Clinton, Md.

He is survived by two daughters, Patricia E. McGowan of Hagerstown and Rosemary T. Springer of Silver Spring, Md.; two sons, Michael D. O'Meara of Dover and Robert L. O'Meara of Gambrills, Md.; one sister, Margaret Mary O'Meara of Lewes, Del.; one brother, Francis V. O'Meara of Lewes; and 12 grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, 32 E. Potomac St., Williamsport. The Rev. Alfred E. Smith will be celebrant. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton, Md.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.

Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Western Maryland, 5 Public Square, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

James F. Flowers Sr.

HANCOCK - James F. Flowers Sr., 82, of Resley Road, died Tuesday, April 14, at his home.

Born April 30, 1915, in Hancock, he was the son of the late John and Jenny Brady Flowers.

He was a retired machinist with Pangborn Corp. in Hagerstown.

He was of Protestant faith.

He was a member of UAW Local 841 in Hagerstown and a member of Tonoloway Rod and Gun Club in Hancock.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mildred Roman Flowers; three daughters, Joann Appel, Nancy McCoy and Carolyn Myers, all of Hancock; one son, James F. Flowers Jr. of Hancock; one brother, Reed Flowers of Hancock; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucy Adelsberger, Iva Shives, and Mary McCusker; and four brothers, Ernest Flowers, Carl Flowers, Amos Flowers and William Flowers.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Resley Road, Hancock. The Rev. Edward James will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, and Thursday, at the church, one hour before the service. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open from 2 to 9 p.m. today.
