May 2, 2000

Calvin P. Butler, Jr. of Easton died Tuesday May 2, 2000 at Memorial Hospital in Easton. He was 73 years old.

Born at Salisbury Md. on November 18, 1926, he was the son of the late Calvin P., Sr. and Helen Byrd Butler. Mr. Butler has been a resident of Easton since 1933.

After graduating from Easton High School in 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserve and volunteered for submarine service duty. Mr. Butler was assigned to and served on the U.S.S. Loggerhead SS374 in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. Following his release from active duty in 1946, he returned to Easton and was employed by C. Albert Matthews, Inc., for 45 years, retiring in 1991.

A life member and past Post Commander of E.E. Streets V.F.W. Post #5118 , he was a member of the Easton Elks Lodge #1622, Talbot Post #70 American Legion and a life member of Submarine Veterans of World War II.

Mr. Butler is survived by his wife, the former Eleanor V. Scott, whom he married in October 1946, one son , Bruce E. Butler of Trappe, two grandchildren, Todd Butler of Hurlock and Amy Butler of Trappe.

Services will be Friday May 5 at 2:00 PM at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Easton where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be at the White Marsh Cemetery, Trappe, Md.

Mary Elizabeth Harrison, a lifelong resident of Talbot County, died on Tuesday, May 2, 2000 at the Genesis Eldercare-The Pines, Talbot House in Easton. She was 80.

Born in Easton on November 28, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Milton and Nettie Willey Eason. She was a resident of Easton since 1954 where she was a member of the Easton Church of the Nazarene.

Mrs. Harrison is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charles Francis Harrison; a son, James F. Harrison of Easton; two daughters, Nancy E. Andrews of Hurlock and Shirley L. Downes of St. Michaels; nine grandchildren, including Brian Stevens who she raised as son; thirteen great-grandchildren; four sisters; and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Thursday, May 4, 2000 at 2:00 PM. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Easton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Easton Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, Hollyday Street & Glebe Road, Easton, MD 21601 or the Diabetes Association, 114 Baptist Street, Salisbury, MD 21801.

Charles Augustine McFadden of Worton, Md. died on Tuesday May 2, 2000 at his home. He was 78.

Mr. McFadden was born in Coatesville, Pa. on July 23, 1921, the son of the late Charles A. and Helen Brick McFadden. He was a graduate of Penn State and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the USS Pensacola He was married in 1949 to Marie Lamb; she predeceased him on December 1, 1995.

As an inventor, Mr. McFadden held many patents. He was president of Bickley Furnaces in Ben Salem, PA. He served as past President of the American Ceramic Society and was also on the board of trustees of Frankford Trust in Philadelphia, PA. In 1980 he moved to Worton to enjoy his retirement. Mr. McFadden’s passion was sailing. He sailed “Innisfree” to Maine every summer. He was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. He and Gail Hemingway were married in 1996.

In addition to his wife he is survived by 2 daughters: Susan McFadden of Ridley Park, Pa. and Julie Carter of Wakefield, Mass.; 4 sons: Timothy McFadden of Skowhegan, Maine, Michael McFadden of Wilmington, Mass., Robert McFadden of Leominster, Mass., and R. Sean McFadden of Chicago, Il. a brother: Donald Brick McFadden of Rosemont, PA.

Charles had seven grandchildren.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday May 6, 2000 at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on High Street in Chestertown, MD. Relatives and friends may call on Friday May 5, 2000 between the hours of 7:00 and 9:00 P.M. at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Rd. Chestertown, MD. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in West Chester, PA. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Kent Hospice Foundation 103 Dixon Dr. Chestertown, Md. 21620.

Margaret Blunt of Grasonville, MD died at her home on Monday, May 1, 2000 She was 71.

Margaret Blunt was born on July 11, 1928 in Grasonville, the daughter of the late William W. and Eleanor Todd Blunt. She attended school in Grasonville, MD. She worked for the defense plant in Chestertown, MD until becoming employed as an electronics technician for many years with Collins Electronics in Stevensville, MD, until it closed. She later worked for William Hill Manor and Corsica Hills Nursing Homes as an aid and sat with elders in their homes until she lost her vision in 1989.

Margaret Blunt is survived by: a daughter, Wanda Blunt of Easton, MD and three sisters, June Wessel of Grasonville, MD, Josephine E. Lee of Mary Del, DE and Ann Towers of Ridgely, MD, as well as three grandchildren. She was predeceased by four brothers.

Thomas James Faulkner, Jr. of Easton died on Monday, May 1, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital, Easton. He was 81.

Born in Fairbank on October 5, 1918, he was the son of the late Thomas James, Sr. and Blanche Weber Faulkner. After graduating from Easton High School, he attended a business college in Baltimore for two years. He then served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-45. In 1945, he married the former Dolores Marie Guidone and they moved to Easton in 1947. For a number of years, he, his father, and his brother, Weber Faulkner, who also died in January of this year, owned and operated a cannery called the Salem Packing Company in Salem. He also worked as a correctional officer in the Maryland House of Corrections in Jessup for sixteen years until his retirement in 1990.

Mr. Faulkner was a member of the American Legion Post #70 in Easton, the E.E. Streets Memorial Post # 5118 of the V.F.W. in Easton, the Talbot County Rod & Gun Club in Easton, the National Wildlife Federation, and the N.R.A.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Thomas J. Faulkner, III of Cambridge and James Lowery Faulkner of Monmouth Beach, NJ; a daughter, Mary Jean Aydelotte of Easton; and five granddaughters.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Easton on Thursday, May 4, 2000 at 11:00 AM. Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Wednesday evening from 7-9 PM. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, c/o Sheila Bateman, 501 Dutchman’s Lane, Easton, MD 21601.

Elsie Virginia Kinsey of Chestertown, Md. died on May 1, 2000 at Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital. She was 72.

She was born on March 15, 1928 in Crumpton, Md. the daughter of the late Frank and Edna Teat Reid. She married Willard Kinsey; they made their home in Chestertown. In 1987 her husband predeceased her. Mrs. Kinsey worked for Vita Foods for a few years as office manager. She then helped her husband on their farm in Great Oak. Mrs. Kinsey enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo, crafting, and flower gardening. She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary to the V.F.W. #652 in Millington, Md. and the Women of the Moose #1870 in Millington, Md.

In addition to her husband Roger E. Pleasanton of Chestertown, Md. she is survived by a brother: Frank R. Reid of Henderson, Md., 4 sisters: Mary Ketterman of Crumpton, Md., Edna Bacon of Crumpton, Md., Florence McClain of Worton, Md., and Frances Peterson of Chestertown, Md.; 2 step-children: Jay Pleasanton and Michelle Adams both of Delaware. One step grandson as well as several nieces and nephews also survive her.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 4, 2000 at 1:00 P.M. at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Rd. Chestertown, Md. 21620. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday one-hour prior to the service (12-1). Interment will be in Chester Cemetery Chestertown, Md. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society P.O. Box 711 Chestertown, Md. 21620.

George Young Klinefelter Jr. a longtime resident of Rock Hall, Md. and a native of Baltimore, Md. died on Monday May 1, 2000 at Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital from complications of pneumonia. He was 74.

He was the son of the late George Young Sr. and Dorothy Louise Cromer Klinefelter. Mr. Klinefelter attended McDonough School for 12 years and graduated from Georgia Tech with a B.S. in Industrial Management. During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Navy as a paymaster. George was president of Elite Laundry and Dry Cleaning before moving to Rock Hall to work for his longtime friend the late Eban Waterfield. He was active in Downtown Washington D.C. Kiwanis and a lifetime member of the NRA. He loved the outdoors and showed his enthusiasm with his family and the members of the Fair Chance Hunting Club. Mr. Klinefelter was a lifetime fan of the Baltimore Colts and Orioles; he followed their games with devotion. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles and his dog, Chew.

He is survived by a sister: Dorothy Klinefelter Earll of Annapolis, Md., his wife Anne Lewis Jones Klinefelter of Rock Hall, Md.; his children: Anne “Merry” Klinefelter Benedict of Gaithersburg, Md., Katherine “KC” Hastings of Eldersburg, Md., George “Marshall” Klinefelter of Crumpton, Md., and his grandchildren Kimberly Doris Hastings and Jacqueline Shriver Hastings both of Eldersburg, Md.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday May 3, 2000 at 11:00 A.M. at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home Route #20 Rock Hall, Maryland. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital Foundation 100 Brown Street Chestertown, Md. 21620 or the Rock Hall Vol. Fire Dept. Ambulance Fund P.O. Box 577 Rock Hall, Md. 21661. Arrangements by Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home Rock Hall, Md.

June 30, 2000

Elinor L. Campbell of Easton died on Friday, June 30, 2000 at the William Hill Manor in Easton. She was 79.

Born in Winthrop, Massachusetts on August 27, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Edmund and Louise Seel Campbell. After graduating from high school, she received a bachelors degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and a masters degree in Teaching from Tufts College in Boston. She was a school teacher in the public school system in Bridgeport, Connecticut for 20 years. Following her retirement, she moved to Easton.

Ms. Campbell was a First Reader at the Christian Science Church.

Ms. Campbell is survived by a sister, Ruth Kolby of Tucson, AZ; and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Hannah Campbell, and a brother, Philip Campbell, both died in 1999.

Services and burial will be private.

June 29, 2000

Wayne Paul Bishop of North East, Maryland died on June 29, 2000 at his home. He was 40.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware he was the son of the late Paul and Kitty Bishop. He began work at a very young age as a painter. He continued his career as a painting contractor, living in many places throughout the United States. He has lived in the North East area for the last 7 years, working as a painting contractor. He enjoyed fishing and shooting pool. Mr. Bishop enjoyed Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

He is survived by 2 sons: Alexander and James Bishop both of North East, Maryland, an uncle: Earl J. and his wife Vickie Hoover of Delaware, and a fiancée Mary-Kathryn Marcum.

Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to assist in the raising of his two children at 13 Walden Court North East, Maryland 21901. Arrangements by Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home 226 East Main Street Cecilton, Maryland.

Warren Lechthaler of Easton, formerly of Pikesville, died on Thursday, June 29, 2000 at the William Hill Manor. He was 77.

Born in Baltimore on July 5, 1922, he was the son of the late Charles F. and Irene Keiner Lechthaler. He graduated from the McDonogh School in Baltimore. On June 11, 1944, he landed in Normandy and was assigned to the U.S. Army 294th Engineer Combat Battalion as a jeep driver. He participated in the Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central European engagements. He received an Honorable Discharge in January 1946. In 1947, he married the former Audrey Louise Gerwig and they made their home in Pikesville. He worked in plant engineering at the C&P Telephone of America (Bell Atlantic) in Baltimore for over 40 years until retiring and moving to Easton in 1981.

While living in Pikesville, he was a member of the Ames Methodist Church in Pikesville where he was a Sunday School teacher, an MYF leader, a layleader, and a member of the Methodist Men. He was also a member of the Kiwanis and the Optimist Club. While living in Easton, he was a member of the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church where he had been a Trustee. He was also a member of the Izaak Walton League, Edge Creek Boat Club, AARP, Telephone Pioneers of America, Easton Memorial Hospital Junior Auxiliary, and the E.E. Streets Memorial Post # 5118, V.F.W.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne Louise and Rich Hood of Easton; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald Warren and Karen Lechthaler of Frederick; two sisters, Irene Lechthaler and Elizabeth Lechthaler, both of Easton; a brother, Harold Lechthaler of New Jersey; three grandchildren Allyson Elizabeth Hood of Baltimore, Lewis Woodward Hood and Lance Warren Hood, both of Easton.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Easton on Monday, July 3, 2000 at 11:00 AM where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Committal services will be held at the Druid Ridge Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, Pikesville on Thursday, July 6, 2000 at 4:00 PM, followed by entombment.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, c/o Sheila Bateman, William Hill Manor, 501 Dutchman’s Lane, Easton, MD 21601 or the St. Mark’s Memorial Scholarship Fund, 100 Peachblossom Road, Easton, MD 21601.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Warren’s life with a light lunch at Suzanne Hood’s home after the service.

John Middleton La Londe, of Cordova, died at his home on Thursday, June 29, 2000. He was 78.

Born in Baltimore, MD, April 16, 1922, he was the son of the late Emil E. and Frances Middleton La Londe.

After graduating from an American high school in Panama, he attended Cetenary College in Shreveport, LA He then worked at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C. In 1948, he entered the U. S. Air Force where he trained as a pilot in numerous types of aircraft. He served the majority of his Military career as a pilot. Following his release from active duty in 1966, he was associated with Remmert Werner, Inc. in St. Louis, MO where he trained and qualified pilots in the North American Sabreliner and later became a part of the Sabreliner sales team. In 1972, he joined the Pratt & Whitney Division of United Technologies Corp. as a pilot and to manage a satellite operation at West Palm Beach, Fla. In 1976, he moved to East Hartford to fly the Boeing 727 for the company and, the next year, to takeover management of the Aircraft Maintenance Dept. In 1982, he was granted a transfer to the Pratt & Whitney Government Products Division and was assigned to Saudi Arabia as Site Manager for the F100 Engine Maintenance and Training. He retired in 1984 with over 20,000 hours of flying time.

A resident of Cordova since 1985, he was a member of the Talbot Rod and Gun Club.

Mr. La Londe is survived by his wife, the former Jean Musick whom he married on Dec. 22, 1948 in the chapel at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Theda L. Moore of Stafford Springs, Conn.; two sons, Dennis E. Herrell of Fairfield, California and John M. La Londe, Jr. of Cypress, Texas; a sister, Joyce Coleman of Richmond, Va. ; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A brother, Emil E. La Londe, is deceased.

Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Easton, on Monday, July 3rd from 7 - 9 P.M. A Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home that evening at 8:45 P.M.

Burial will be at the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. on Monday, July 10th, at 10 A.M.

Memorial donations may be made to the Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, MD 21601

J. Howard Meredith, Sr. of Wye Mils, MD. died suddenly on June 29, 2000 due to a car accident in Centreville, MD. He was 63.

Born on July 21, 1936 in Wye Mills he was the son of the late T.O. and Rosalie Shortall Meredith, Sr. He was a graduate of Easton High School and attended University of Maryland until returning to Wye Mills. Mr. Meredith then began working as a professional herdsman traveling showing beef cattle for about 8years. He later became a self-employed grain & hog farmer in Wye Mills. In 1975 he established and operated Meredith Chem Farm Sales in Wye Mills, MD. Mr. Meredith was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Queenstown, MD., 4-H All Star, National Tractor Pulling Association (N.T.P.A), Bay Country Moose Lodge in Queenstown, MD., Elks Lodge of Easton, MD., National Golf Superintendents Association, Talbot County Farm Bureau and the N.R.A.

He is survived by his wife to whom he married on December 23, 1961 Luanne C. Meredith of Wye Mills, MD. a son J, Howard Meredith, Jr. of Wye Mills, MD. (2) two daughters Kathy Hayes of Aldie, VA. And Libby Meredith of Wye Mills, MD. a brother T.O. Meredith, Jr. of Annapolis, MD. and a sister Mary Ruth Meredith of Wye Mills, MD.

Funeral services will be held 11AM Monday July 3rd, 2000 at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Centreville, MD. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday July 2nd, 2000 from 2Pm to 4Pm and 6PM to 8PM. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Queenstown, MD. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Queen Anne’s County 4~H Park c/o Swine Barn P.O. Box 537 Centreville, MD. 21617.
