Margaret C. Reichenbacher

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Margaret Catherine Reichenbacher, 72, of Lexington, and formerly of Charles Town, W.Va., died Thursday, April 30, 1998, at University of Kentucky Hospital, Lexington.

Born Sept. 2, 1925, in Charles Town, she was the daughter of the late John William and Brucie Ellen Henry Walker.

Her first husband, Virgil Edward Owens, preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker.

She was a Baptist.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Richard J. "Dick" Reichenbacher; six sisters, Agnes Cleo Mahoney of Kearneysville, Betty Jenkins, Frances Custer and Barbara Ann Alger, all of Ranson, W.Va., Nancy Libby of Arlington, Va., and Sara Southard of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.; a brother, Benjamin Walker of Harpers Ferry; a granddaughter; an adopted grandson; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Owens and Virgil Edward Owens Jr.; two sisters, Marion Lanham and Peggy Ann Walker; and two brothers, Franklin Lanham and John Walker Jr.

Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town. William Custer, lay minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town.

Friends will be received at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home today and Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Sandra E. Long

FREDERICK, Md. - Sandra E. Wiles Long, 47, of 10089 Quail Knob Lane, died Friday, May 1, 1998, at University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Born April 30, 1951, in Frederick, she was the daughter of Sylvester R. Wiles Sr. and Doris L. Perkins Wiles.

She was a graduate of Frederick High School and recently completed her studies at Frederick Community College for her associate's degree.

She worked for several years with the Job Training Agency of Frederick. Most recently, she served as executive assistant to the Frederick County Commissioners and Commissioners President Mark Hoke.

She also was serving as the assistant for the Frederick County 250th Anniversary Committee, working with the event chairman and serving as liaison to the 250th Steering Committee.

She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Frederick.

She also was a member of Republican Woman's Club, Ladies of the Moose, Fraternal Order of Eagles and AMVETS Post 2, all of Frederick.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Daniel J. Long; two daughters, Doris Ann Buhrman of Smithsburg and Linda R. Burns of Frederick; five brothers and sisters, Ronald Wiles, Beverly Wiles and Jeffrey Wiles, all of Frederick, Robin Young of Hagerstown and Tracey DeGrange of Brunswick, Md.; five grandchildren; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 E. Second St., Frederick. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

The family will receive friends at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, Maryland Office, 407 Central Ave., Reisterstown, Md. 21136.

Joseph W. McDaniel Jr.

Joseph Wilson "Joe" McDaniel Jr., 69, of 17540 Virginia Ave., died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 13, 1928, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Joseph Wilson McDaniel Sr. and the late Margaret Catherine Middlekauff.

He was a 1946 graduate of Hagerstown High School, a 1953 graduate of Frostburg State Teachers College, and received his masters degree from Wesleyan University in Connecticut in 1966.

He was a staff fire and rescue instructor for University of Maryland until his retirement in 1991. He was first employed by Washington County Board of Education serving as a teacher, then vice principal at Boonsboro Jr. High School, South Potomac Middle School and E. Russell Hicks Middle School, retiring to join University of Maryland Fire & Rescue Service in Allegany, Garrett and Washington Counties' fire and rescue companies.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948 and retired a commander from the Naval Reserve.

He was of Lutheran faith.

He was a member of Friendship Lodge 84 A.F. & A.M.; Morris Frock Post 42, American Legion, Hagerstown; Hagerstown Lodge 378 B. P. O. Elks; First Hose Fire Co., Hagerstown; Volunteer Fire Co. of Halfway, where he served as chief from 1960 until 1973, and as secretary and treasurer until his death; Hagerstown Stamp Club; and Antietam Amateur Radio Association.

He is survived by his wife, Clara Joanne Scott Roane McDaniel; one son, Joseph Martin McDaniel of Williamsport; one step daughter, Debra A. Roane of Rockville, Md.; and step mother, Mrs. J. W. McDaniel Sr. of Winchester, Va.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Albert L. Leaf Memorial Chapel of Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. Chaplain Pierce M. Damewood, M. F. R. Association will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown. Military graveside service will be conducted by Morris Frock Post.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends. Friendship Lodge will conduct a Masonic Memorial Service at 6:30 p.m. today.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Memorial donations may be made to Volunteer Fire Company of Halfway, 11114 Lincoln Ave., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Joseph Kroboth Jr.

Joseph Kroboth Jr., 59, of 17506 York Road, died Sunday, May 3, 1998 at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 3, 1938, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Joseph Sr. and Kalorina Kutmal Kroboth.

He was a 1956 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

He was employed with Jamison Door Co. for the past 32 years.

He was a veteran of Army National Guard, 1st Battalion, 115th Infantry Division.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

He was a 39 year veteran of Halfway Volunteer Fire Co., where he formerly served as lieutenant and was currently serving on the Board of Trustees. He was a member of Washington County Fire Police; North American Rod & Gun Club; Fraternal Order of the Moose; Antietam Fire Co.; United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners of America, Local 340, Hagerstown; and a former member of Greencastle Sportsman's Club.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Kroboth; one son, Joseph Kroboth III of Hagerstown; one sister, Anna Farris of Hagerstown; one brother, John J. Kroboth of Hagerstown; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Kroboth.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 N. Eastern Blvd. The Rev. George A. Limmer will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arena M. Beall

Arena Martha "Agnes" Beall, 91, a guest of Coffman Nursing Home, formerly of 3797 Clubhouse Drive, Fayetteville, Pa., died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at the nursing home.

Born March 24, 1907, in Frederick County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Isaac L. and Gertrude Hilderbrand Bostian.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Beall, in 1961.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Leitersburg.

She is survived by one daughter, Audrey V. Rehkopf of Fayetteville, Pa.; one sister, Ruth A. Fogle of New Windsor, Md.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one son, Charles M. Beall, in 1989; two sisters; three brothers; and one grandson.

Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Charles B. Jessen will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

William A. Lawrence

HANCOCK - William A. Lawrence, 72, of National Pike, died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at his home.

Born Sept. 11, 1925, in Richmond, Va., he was the son of the late John William and Dora May Bartley Lawrence.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Lawrence.

A retired longshoreman, he had been employed with Dundalk Marine Terminal, Dundalk, Md.

He was a Protestant.

He is survived by his companion of 16 years, Eileen M. Spangenberger Lawrence; a daughter, Rose Marie of Baltimore; and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. Charles W. Helms will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open today from 2 to 9 p.m.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, Washington County Unit, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Rebecca A. McDowell

Rebecca A. McDowell, 54, of 119 John St., died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 17, 1944, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Harry W. Houpt Sr. of Martinsburg and the late Ruth A. Morris Houpt Rice. She was the stepdaughter of James W. Rice of Hagerstown.

She was a 1962 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

She and her husband co-owned Dick's Glass Shop.

She was a member of First Christian Church.

She was a volunteer with West End Little League and American Little League.

In addition to her stepfather, she is survived by her husband of 35 years, Richard K. McDowell; four daughters, Trudy Marie Thomas, Teresa Ann Fair, Pamela Sue Fair and Elizabeth Starr Hay, all of Hagerstown; a son, James David McDowell of Hagerstown; a sister, Betty Lee Reynolds of Hagerstown; a brother, Harry W. Houpt Jr. of Finksburg, Md.; 12 grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St. The Rev. Fred M. Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Mary C. Nutter

Mary Catherine Nutter, 55, of 343 Linganore Ave., died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.

Born June 29, 1942, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Cecil A. and Nellie Fortunato Spigler.

She was a 1960 graduate of North Hagerstown High School.

She formerly was employed by Kresge's.

She was a Baptist. She attended Virginia Avenue Baptist Church and the Salvation Army.

She was a lifetime member of Little League Team Mothers with West End Little League. She was a member of the Election Board of Washington County, an executive board member of Miss Potomac Valley Scholarship Foundation and was active with the Miss America Program.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, William R. Nutter; two daughters, Madlyn D. Chaney and Melissa S. Nutter, both of Hagerstown; a son, William C. Nutter of Hagerstown; a sister, Roxanna Porter of Hagerstown; a brother, Richard A. Spigler of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; aunts and uncles; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Richard A. Gross will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
