Rebecca A. McDowell

Rebecca A. McDowell, 54, of 119 John St., who died Sunday, May 3.1998, is survived by a sister, Betsy Lee Reynolds.

Dorothea V. Resseger

Dorothea Virginia Resseger, 70, of 653 Court Ave., died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Clearview Nursing Home.

Born Nov. 5, 1927, in Dargan, she was the daughter of the late Reno Lester and Etta Virginia McGown Hetzel.

She was employed with the Board of Education for 25 years, retiring in 1989.

She is survived by four sons, David L. Resseger, Jeffrey Resseger and Randy Resseger, all of Hagerstown, and Richard Resseger of Cumberland, Md.; a sister, Geraldine Waters of Dargan; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Resseger; and a brother, Harold Hetzel.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Don C. Evason will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lenore B. Lewis

CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Lenore Blount Lewis, 88, formerly of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, April 21, 1998 at Cape Coral Hospital.

Born in Suffolk, Va., she was the daughter of the late Arthur Stockton and Vonnie Leggett Blount.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Gordon A. Lewis Sr.

She was a graduate of the University of Maryland and pursued graduate studies at Columbia University, The Julliard School of Music and Peabody Conservatory of Music. She was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority.

She taught music and English in Washington County.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Hagerstown, and was master of the choir.

She was a founding member and president of Town and Country Garden Club and a member of Fountain Head Country Club.

She is survived by two sons, Gordon A. Lewis Jr. of Jupiter, Fla., and Rodney B. Lewis of Elkton, Va.; her twin sister, Virginia B. McGuckin of Cape Coral; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Blount Beachley.

Burial will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Mary E. Giles

WILLIAMSPORT - Mary Elizabeth Giles, 86, of Williamsport, and formerly of Honesdale, Pa., died Friday, May 1, 1998, at the home of her brother, the Rev. Roy E. Giles.

Born Jan. 23, 1912, in Niagara, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Russell W. and Emma Ledyard Giles.

She was a retired employee of Wayne Memorial Hospital where she had worked in the dietary department.

She was a member of Pleasant Mount United Methodist Church.

She is survived by three brothers, Edwin Giles Sr. of Prompton, Pa., the Rev. Dwight E. Giles of Hendersonville, N.C., and the Rev. Roy E. Giles of Williamsport; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Burdick; and three brothers, Kermit Giles, Robert Giles and Reed Giles.

Services were Tuesday, May 5, at Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, Honesdale. The Rev. Susan Hardman-Zimmerman officiated. Burial was in Clinton Center Cemetery, Waymart, Pa.

Grace E. McIntyre

MANASSAS, Va. - Grace Elizabeth McIntyre, 87, of Manassas, and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Prince William Hospital, Manassas.

Born Oct. 8, 1910, in Mitchellville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Minnie Chapman Fowler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd E. McIntyre Sr., in 1964.

She retired from Interwoven Mills, Martinsburg.

She was a member of Darksville Methodist Church, attended First Baptist Church and was a member of the Philathea Class of the church.

She is survived by a son, LeRoy E. McIntyre of Martinsburg; a brother, George E. Fowler of Martinsburg; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Lloyd E. McIntyre Jr.; a sister, Frances E. Butler; a brother, Charles Fowler; and a half brother, Robert Linton.

A graveside service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in Rosedale Cemetery. The Rev. L. Jack Rudy will officiate.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Rosedale Cemetery Road, Martinsburg.

John Horace Reynolds

John Horace Reynolds, 92, of 419 Summit Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home, Boonsboro.

Born June 27, 1905, in Quarryville, Pa., he was the son of the late Howard and Mary Furgeson Reynolds.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Sue Keene Reynolds, in 1988.

He had retired from Fairchild Aircraft.

He was a member of The Presbyterian Church in Hagerstown.

He is survived by three sons, Robert K. Reynolds of Hagerstown, John H. Reynolds of Knoxville, Tenn., and Howard W. Reynolds of Bittinger, Md.; a sister, Ethel Overly of Glenolden, Pa.; a brother, Melvin Reynolds of Monterey, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Elma Trupin.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. John W. Ailstock will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

There will be no viewing.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Dorothea V. Resseger

Dorothea Virginia Resseger, who died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, also is survived by a daughter, Debbie Resseger of Boonsboro; a son, Gary Hetzel of Dargan, Md.; and 10 grandchildren.

Melvin P. Reiff Sr.

CLEAR SPRING - Melvin Paul Reiff Sr., 68, of 13823 National Pike, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at his home.

Born Jan. 23, 1930, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Ruben Kauffman and Lucy Martin Reiff.

He was a conductor for Western Maryland Railroad, retiring after 40 years.

A veteran of the Korean War, he served with National Guard Co. B29.

A Protestant, he attended Mount Calvary Church of God, Clear Spring.

He was a member of Mediary Lodge 140 of Williamsport, St. Bernard Commandry 9, Knights Temple Lodge, Eastern Star Lodge 89, Moose Lodge 1790 in Mercersburg, Pa. and Waynesboro (Pa.) Fish and Game Association.

He also was a member of Western Maryland Railroad Old Timers Club; American Legion Nationwide; a charter member of Clear Spring Ambulance Club; United Transportation Union of Railroad; and lifetime member of Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Co.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Esther R. Moats Reiff ; twin daughters, Sandra J. Rhodes and Saundra J. Beard, both of Hagerstown; a brother, Chester M. Reiff of Clear Spring; seven grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Melvin P. Reiff Jr.; a brother, Ruben K. Reiff; and a granddaughter.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Revs. Robert E. Timmons and Claire Ebersole will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Clear Spring.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where Mediary Lodge 140 will conduct Masonic services at 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 322-324 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740; or to "Missions," in care of Mount Calvary Church of God, P.O. Box 366, Clear Spring, Md. 21722.

Robert Lynn Young

SMITHSBURG - Robert Lynn Young, 43, of 8 Pennsylvania Ave., Smithsburg, died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 12, 1955, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of Elmer M. and Janet Harmon Young of Chambersburg.

He was a graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School. He received his associate of arts degree from Penn State University, and his bachelor's degree in social sciences from Shippensburg University.

He was employed at Staples Distribution Center.

He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Chewsville.

He was a second lieutenant with the Civil Air Patrol. He was a Little League baseball coach for 12 years.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon K. Mertz Young; one son, Joshua Paul Young, at home; one sister, Cindy Young Donn of Arlington, Va.; and nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 16, at 2 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church in Chewsville. The Rev. John W. Schildt will officiate.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 21001 Twin Springs Drive, Chewsville, Md. 21721.

Arrangements are by the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Clifford D. Willard

FOXVILLE, Md. - Clifford Donald Willard, 95, of 4901 Foxville Road, Foxville, died Thursday, May 7, at his home.

Born May 27, 1902, in Foxville, he was the son of the late William Kelly and Annie Maria Hauver Willard.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Victoria Brown Willard, in 1976.

He farmed in Foxville and owned and operated Willard's Sawmill in Foxville.

He is survived by six children, Pauline Elizabeth Eccard of Foxville, Ruth Irene Blickenstaff of Wolfsville, Md., Harry Eugene Willard, Harold Ray Willard, Richard Lee Willard and Jesse Carroll Willard, all of Foxville; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Clifford William Willard and Calvin Willard Sr., and brothers and sisters.

A service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, Stottlemyer Road, Foxville. The Rev. William Kercheval will officiate. The casket will be taken to the church at 10 a.m.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 1 to 9 p.m. at the Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St., Thurmont.
