June E. Hovermale

June E. McAllister Hovermale, 79, formerly of Indian Springs, and a resident of Coffman Nursing Home, died Friday, May 15, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born, April 12, 1919, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Newton Edgar McAllister and Violet Koontz McAllister.

Her husband, Raymond K. "Poke" Hovermale, died in 1995.

She was a homemaker.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by one son, Raymond N. Hovermale of Hagerstown; one sister, Jane Carbaugh of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Laura Sellers.

Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Earl Brechbill will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open Sunday from noon to 9 p.m.

Daniel C. Carnes

Daniel Clifton Carnes, 51, of 18813 Rolling Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, May 14, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Feb. 14, 1947, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Roy C. and Rhea Alta Wigfield Carnes.

He was employed by Mack Trucks for 25 years, and at Glessner Communications.

A Vietnam War veteran, he served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was a member of First Christian Church.

He also was a member of Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion, BPOE Lodge 378, and UAW Local 842.

He is survived by his wife, Pat M. Hawbaker Carnes; and one brother, James E. Carnes of Princeton, N.J.

Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Fred M. Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 322 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Hobert B. Bonner

FREDERICK, Md. - Hobert Blake Bonner, 79, of 2500 Driftwood Court, died Thursday, May 14, 1998, at Citizens Nursing Home.

Born July 3, 1918, in Davis, W.Va., he was the son of the late S. Victor and Kate Teter Bonner.

He was a graduate of Davis and Elkins College, Elkins, W.Va., earning his degree in microbiology.

He was employed by Fort Detrick for 20 years. He later worked for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission for 12 years as a microbiologist, retiring in 1983.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in Europe and was part of the D-Day invasion at Normandy.

He was a member of Francis Scott Key Post 11 American Legion, John R. Webb Post VFW, Knights of Pythias, Mountain City Lodge 29, and NARFE. He volunteered many hours for Meals on Wheels, Frederick.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty M. Davis Bonner; three sons, Duke Bonner of Knoxville, John Bonner of Keedysville, and William C. Bonner of Knoxville; two sisters, Opal Bosley of Hanover, Pa., and Ruby Schaeffer of Silver Spring, Md.; two brothers, Howard L. Bonner of Rockville, Md., and Curtis M. Bonner of Canaan Valley, W.Va.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Maysel Gaynor, Alta Sterner and Pauline Morris.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in Etchison Memorial Chapel, Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The Rev. Wendell McClellan will officiate. Burial will be in Hill Crest Memorial Park, Cumberland, Md.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mervin L. Weatherholtz

HALFWAY - Mervin Lafayette Weatherholtz, 81, of 11219 Greenmount Ave., died Friday, May 15, 1998, at his home.

Born Nov. 25, 1916, in Timberville, Va., he was the son of the late Marvin Richard and Edith Elizabeth Messick Weatherholtz.

He was a certified mechanic for Bray & Scarff Refrigeration Co. in Washington, D.C., retiring in 1983.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a staff sergeant during World War II in Europe.

He attended First Wesleyan Church.

He was a member of Bassmasters and AARP.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Loretta May Harris Weatherholtz; four daughters, Vicki Marie Williams of Fredericksburg, Va., Sarah Elizabeth Comfort of Hillsboro, N.C., Theresa Louise Perry and Mary Ann Brown, both of Hagerstown; a son, Mervyn Edward Weatherholtz of Roseville, Mich.; a brother, Trovilla Monroe Weatherholtz of Fairfax, Va.; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Robert D. Swank Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown. Military honors will be conducted by Morris Frock Post 42, American Legion.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open after 9 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to First Wesleyan Church, 17805 Sherman Ave., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Elmiro L. Wolfe

Elmiro Lucille Putman Wolfe, 79, of 256 S. Potomac St., died Saturday, May 16, 1998, at her home.

Born Nov. 4, 1918, in Lime Kiln, Md., she was the daughter of the late Roy Greenberry and Alta Ileane Duvall Putman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Allen Wolfe in 1974.

She was employed by the Women's Club, retiring in 1984 after eight years of service.

She was a member of First Christian Church.

She was a member of Eastern Star of Rockville, Ind.; Women of the Moose Lodge 247 of Frederick, Md.; and Ladies of the Elks Lodge 378. She was a Cub Scout den mother for a number of years.

She is survived by one daughter, Billie Jo Trumpower of Hagerstown; two sisters, Thelma N. Robbins of Clearwater, Fla., and Mary Evelyn Burns of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; three brothers, Hueston E. Putman and Rhudel T. Putman, both of Frederick, and Alton R. Putman of Knoxville, Md.; three grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Gary Allen Wolfe; one sister, Margaret E. Ritter; and one brother, Norman O. Putman.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Ann V. Atkins will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dorothy Elizabeth Fouch

SHARPSBURG - Dorothy Elizabeth Fouch, 73, of 17180 Bakersville Road, Sharpsburg, died Sunday, May 17, at the Williamsport Nursing Home, Williamsport.

Born June 16, 1924, in Grimes Station, Md., she was the daughter of the late Peter and Rebecca Sweitzer Ruffner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Samuel Fouch, in 1993.

She was employed by the Williamsport Nursing Home, retiring in 1990. She previously was employed by Good Humor Breyers Ice Cream Co., Hagerstown.

She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Bakersville.

She is survived by one brother, Paul Ruffner of Hagerstown; one grandson, Jessie Taylor; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Taylor; four sisters, Virginia Mauck, Blanche Bealafeld, Elsie Smith and Mildred Earley; and one brother, Warren Ruffner.

Services will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Blaine Feightner and the Rev. Richard Hembrock will officiate. Burial will be in the Brownsville Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday after the service until 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Salem Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 4027, Sharpsburg, Md. 21782.

Marie G. McCune

Marie Garvin McCune, 77, of 13035 Little Antietam Road, died Sunday, May 17, 1998, at the Avalon Nursing Home.

Born Jan. 14, 1921, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Ammon and Bessie Maugans Garvin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Brewer McCune.

She was a graduate of Hagerstown High School.

She was a self-employed hairdresser.

She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church.

She is survived by one son, Stuart McCune of Hagerstown; and one brother, Robert M. Garvin of Dallas, Texas.

There will be no services or viewing. She was cremated.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd.
