Lois E. West
REEDSPORT, Ore. - Lois E. Eader West, 75, of Reedsport, and formerly of Waynesboro, Pa., died, Friday, May 8, 1998, at her son's home in Portland, Ore.
Born March 18, 1923, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late John B. and Flora M. McGinley Eader.
Her husband, Robert E. West, died in 1994. They were married April 10, 1943.
She was a 1941 graduate of Waynesboro High School.
She is survived by one son, Robert Eader West of Portland; two grandsons, Thomas West of Portland, and Christopher West of Anchorage, Alaska; one granddaughter, Amie Emery of Mansville, Mo.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, John Paul West.
A memorial service was held Monday, May 18, at her home in Reedsport.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. The Rev. John D. Fickett will officiate.

Annie L. Grimes
WILLIAMSPORT - Annie Laura Grimes, 96, of 18 S. Vermont St., died Monday, May 18, 1998, at her home.
Born Aug. 7, 1901, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Hamilton and Nettie Lee Bowser Grimes.
A retired seamstress, she had been employed by Eyerly's and Bon Ton.
She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Williamsport.
She also was a member of AARP and a former member of Rebecca's Lodge, Williamsport.
She is survived by one sister, Ida K. Grimes of Williamsport; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothea Snyder, and Margaret Myers; and two brothers, William Grimes and Harry Grimes.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Gregory Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Williamsport.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday one hour prior to the service.

Loretta A. Richards
Loretta Alma Richards, 87, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, died Friday, May 15, 1998, at Colton Villa Nursing Center.
Born Dec. 11, 1910, in Sharpsburg, she was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Luva E. Brashears Knode.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd E. Richards, in 1997.
She is survived by one daughter, Beverly V. Thornton of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Thelma Brining and Agnes Clever, both of Hagerstown, and Mary Suter of Boonsboro; two granddaughters; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Frances Stotelmyer; and one brother, David Knode.
Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.
The family requests the omission of flowers.
Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
Wilma M. Higgs
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Wilma "Willie" Minghini Higgs, 94, of Rochester, formerly of Charles Town, W.Va., died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at St. Ann's Home in Rochester.
Born Oct. 23, 1903, in Charles Town, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Wilson Asbury and Emma Kate Baugh Higgs.
She was a graduate of the University of Arizona.
She was a retired secretary. She worked briefly for the University of Rochester before going to work at IOLA Sanitorium in Rochester, from which she retired after 25 years.
She was a member of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament and the Cenacle Prayer Group in Rochester.
She lived in New York City in the 1930s volunteering with the Catholic Worker movement. She later helped establish the Catholic Worker St. Joseph's House in Rochester.
She is survived by one sister-in-law, Odessa Webb Higgs; nieces and nephews; and adopted grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six sisters, Effie B. Furr, Frances Hockensmith, Mabel E. Higgs, E. Kate Vaughn, Charlotte A. Andrews and Evelyn M. Ningarde; and seven brothers, Asbury W. Higgs, Wilson B. Higgs, Benjamin F. Higgs, Ernest E. Higgs, James A. Higgs, Richard V. Higgs and Oliver W. Higgs.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Charles Town Presbyterian Church, Charles Town. The Rev. William Everhart and the Rev. Brian Owens will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.

Albert L. Morrison
MARIETTA, Ga. - Albert Lewis Morrison, 78, of Marietta, died Monday, May 18, 1998, at his home.
Born May 14, 1920, in Jane Lew, W.Va., he was the son of the late Scott and Bessie Lewis Morrison.
He retired after 35 years of service as plant supervisor with GTE in Georgia.
He served in the 82nd Airborne Division, U.S. Army.
He was a member of Jane Lew United Methodist Church.
He was a lifetime member of VFW.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Olive Hovermale Morrison; one brother, James W. Morrison of Chesapeake, Va.; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va. The Rev. Mary Gebe Stevens will officiate. Burial will be in Union Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Berkeley Springs. Tri-State Honor Guard will conduct military graveside honors.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.
Franklin M. Shaw
NEW MARKET, Md. - Franklin M. Shaw, 68, mayor of New Market since 1969, died Tuesday, May 19, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md., of heart disease.
Born Feb. 22, 1930, in Frederick, he was the son of the late George F. and Alta M. Kolb Shaw.
He was a 1947 graduate of Frederick High School.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He received the Purple Heart. He served with the first Mobile Army Surgical Hospital in Korea. He also served in Japan, where he helped organize an orphanage, worked at the Osaka General Hospital and studied at Tokyo University.
In the late 1950s, he and an associate formed the Community Medical Lab.
In 1961, he began working with the U.S. Army Medical Unit, Pathology-Biophysics Division, Fort Detrick.
In 1964, he accepted a teaching position with the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C. He left to devote time to an antique business, Shaw's Antiques.
He was an instructor at the Arthur Murray Studio, Washington, D.C.
He studied biochemistry at University of Maryland, Western Maryland College, University of California and Shepherd College.
He was a charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Frederick.
In the 1960s, he was elected to the New Market Town Council. He became mayor in 1969.
He also was a longtime member of the New Market Antique Dealers Association; the AMVETS Post 2, Frederick; and the Frederick County Korean War Veterans Association.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Bussard Shaw, whom he married Oct. 22, 1954; two daughters, Pamela Shaw Snyder of Frederick and Lori Shaw Huff of Frederick; two granddaughters; one sister, A. Lorraine Forney of Frederick; eight nephews; and four great-nephews.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Etchison Memorial Chapel at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The Rev. Garry Sheffield-James will officiate. Burial will be in New Market Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Doris J. Hanratty
LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. - Doris J. Hanratty, 78, of Lee's Summit, died Tuesday, May 19, 1998, at John Knox Village.
She was born Jan. 2, 1920, in Hagerstown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Hanratty, in 1994.
She is survived by two daughters, Alexis Walter of Gaithersburg, Md., and Carol Smith; a son, George Hanratty III of Raytown, Mo.; two sisters, Connie Wastler of Hagerstown and Mary Custer of Boonsboro; one brother, Robert Wastler of Vancouver, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be today at 1 p.m. at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, Mo.
Visitation will be today one hour prior to the services in the chapel of D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City.

Franklin R. Fraley
THURMONT, Md. - Franklin Ray Fraley, 89, of 16 W. Main St., died Tuesday, May 19, 1998, at Citizens Nursing Home, Frederick, Md., where he was a resident.
Born July 28, 1908, in Frederick County, Md., he was the son of the late Frank W. and Ida Mae Kelly Fraley.
He pitched for Thurmont High School and Blue Ridge College in New Windsor, Md. He played baseball for the Frederick County League and the Hanover Raiders of the Blue Ridge League. He later played with the Frederick Warriors. He became a member of the Frederick semi-pro Hustlers, pitching the club to two state championships. He was inducted into Frederick County Sports Hall of Fame in February 1985.
He retired from Frederick County Roads Department in 1972.
He was a member of Apple's United Church of Christ, Thurmont.
He was a member of Carroll County Oldtimers Baseball Association.
He is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Louise Smith Fraley; a daughter, Patricia F. Weddle of Thurmont; one sister, Jean Flory of Frederick; a granddaughter; a grandson; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mabel Townsend and Gladys Rhoderick; and a brother, James Austin Fraley.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, May 26, at 8 p.m. at Thurmont Funeral Home of Robert E. Dailey and Son, 615 E. Main St., Thurmont. The Rev. David Denham, pastor of Apple's United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be private.
There will be no viewing. However, the family will receive friends Tuesday, May 26, one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
