Elta R. Winstead
ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Elta R. Winstead, 91, of Alexandria, died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at Paul Spring Retirement Community, Alexandria.
Born Jan. 3, 1907, in Livingston County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Frederick Rowland and Alice Warren Rappolee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Winstead, in 1996.
She was a homemaker.
She was a charter member of Berkeley Baptist Church, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, Alexandria.
She was a member of Francisco Garces Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Las Vegas.
She is survived by one son, Dale Eric Winstead Sr. of Berkeley Springs; one granddaughter, Tina Jo Winstead of Tucson, Ariz.; two grandsons, Dale Eric Winstead Jr. of Glen Burnie, Md., and Robert Chad Winstead of Phoenix; one stepgranddaughter, Teri Rene Stotler of Jacksonville, Fla.; one stepgrandson, Earl Clifton "J.J." Stinebaugh III of Berkeley Springs; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Josephus Warren Rappolee.
Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church, 9001 Richmond Highway, Alexandria. The Rev. Kenneth J. Schmidt will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Baptist Church Cemetery, Alexandria.
Arrangements are by Cunningham Funeral Home, Alexandria.
O.G. "Gerry" Nusbaum
MIDDLETOWN, Md. - O.G. "Gerry" Nusbaum, 67, of 8525 Bolivar Road, died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at Western Maryland Hospital Center, Hagerstown.
Born Jan. 25, 1931, in Westernport, Md., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Goldie Michaels Bothwell.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Edward J. Crosby, in 1988.
She was employed by American Legion Post 211, Funkstown.
She is survived by three daughters, Terri L. Smith of Middletown, Nancy L. Miller and Bonnie, both of Hagerstown; three sons, P. Steve DeVore, Lewis and Fred, all of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Hopkins, Louise Brooks and Alvera Wilson; and two brothers, Hutchie Bothwell and Marshall Bothwell.
Services will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Bryl E. Shaver will officiate. Burial will be in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone, Md.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Vernon F. Eichelberger
Vernon Franklin "Jack" Eichelberger, 58, of 268 Franklin St., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Sept. 1, 1939, in Antietam, he was the son of Anna Hutson Eichelberger of Hagerstown and the late Raymond Eichelberger.
He was employed by Foltz Manufacturing for 19 years.
He was a member of Antietam Church of God and attended Burnside Church of God in Sharpsburg.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Anna Marmaduke Eichelberger; one brother, Gary Eichelberger of Sharpsburg; and two nephews.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Burnside Church of God, 3904 Mills Road, Sharpsburg. The Rev. Ernest Witmer will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, today from 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturday 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
Elizabeth Isabell Coffman
BOONSBORO - Elizabeth Isabell Coffman, 81, of Reeders Nursing Home, Boonsboro, formerly of Wiley Ford, W.Va., died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born May 25, 1917, in Paw Paw, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Edward Santymire and Grace Lease Santymire Williams.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald D. Coffman, in 1995.
She was a former employee of the Celenese Corp. and Lazarus Clothing Store, both in Cumberland.
She is survived by a son, Richard Edward Monnett of Hagerstown; two brothers, Frank Williams of Clearwater, Fla., and Robert Williams of Ohio; and four grandchildren.
At her request, her body will be cremated.
A memorial service will be conducted at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Sunday at 1 p.m. with Ollen Craig officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Erle P. Talbert
BOONSBORO - Erle Preston Talbert, 79, a resident of Reeders Memorial Home, died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 10, 1919, in Hampstead, Md., he was the son of the late Walter and Orpha Griffith Talbert.
He was formerly employed with Charles Staley Painting of Frederick, Md., and retired in 1981 from G.M. Gehr Painting, Hagerstown.
He was the former umpire chief with South Mountain Little League, Boonsboro.
He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Elaine Brandenburg Talbert, whom he married Dec. 7, 1940; six sons, Ronald Lee Talbert, Robert E. Talbert and Dennis C. Talbert, all of Boonsboro, Edward E. Talbert and Carroll L. Talbert, both of Hagerstown, and Allen R. Talbert of Keedysville; a brother, Theophilus "Lefty" Talbert of Hagerstown; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Ann Haupt; and a sister.
Services will be Monday, June 1, at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. John W. Zsittnik will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery at San Mar.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Bruce H. Black
SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. - Bruce Harry Black, 79, of Spotsylvania, died Monday, May 25, 1998, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Born June 14, 1918, in Michigan City, Ind., he was the son of the late Orlando Black and Mary Eckas.
He retired as a lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Army after 28 years of service, having served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was leader of the military mapping group for Central America in the 1950s, where he received the Order of the Quetzal Medal from the president of Guatemala.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marguerite E. "Bette" Black; a son, Brian W. Black of Hagerstown; a daughter, Susan R. Pope of Lawton, Okla.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles A. Black.
A private service will be held at a later date at Quantico National Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42, Hagerstown, Md. 21740; or Humane Society, 1523 Olde William St., Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.

Sherwood A. Dixon
Sherwood Allen Dixon, 67, of 19826 Marvin Ave., Hagerstown, died Friday, May 29, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 7, 1930, in Washington, N.C., he was the son of the late Jesse Dixon and Catherine Campbell Dixon Beirn.
He was an employee of Mack Trucks Inc. for 40 years.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.
He was a member of Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion; and BPO Elks Lodge 378.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy M. Dixon of Hagerstown; one daughter, Jill M. Boteler of Odenton, Md.; one son, Keith A. Dixon of Fayetteville, Ark.; one sister, Helen April Rose of Washington, D.C.; and five grandchildren.
Services will be Monday, June 1, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. George W. Evans will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The viewing will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

James M. Beeler
BOONSBORO - James M. Beeler, 71 of Boonsboro, died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at his home.
Born Sept. 17, 1926, in Boonsboro, he was the son of the late Joseph Ellsworth Beeler II and Nina Marie Bender Beeler.
He retired from the Western Maryland Railroad in Hagerstown after 37 years.
He was a veteran of the Maryland National Guard and the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a Maryland Minuteman.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Boonsboro, had served on the consistory and as a Sunday school teacher.
He was a past chairman of the Utilities Commission for the town of Boonsboro; a member of the Boonsboro Volunteer Fire Co.; a life member of Boonsboro Ambulance and Rescue Co. No. 69; a member of Clopper-Michael Post 10 American Legion in Boonsboro and Antietam Lodge 197 A.F. & A.M. in Keedysville.
He was a former American Red Cross and the American Heart Association instructor and an Emergency Medical Technician instructor for the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Otzelberger Beeler, whom he married Nov. 21, 1948; a daughter, Marcie J. Knight of Smithsburg; two sons, J. Michael Beeler II of Boonsboro and Marc D. Beeler of Baltimore; three sisters, Sarah B. Shafer of Hagerstown, and Mary A. Welty and Bettie J. Houser, both of Boonsboro; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph E. Beeler III.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Joseph I. Donovan III will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Mary L. Adams
Mary Louise Kline Adams, 94, formerly of South Potomac Street, Hagerstown, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at Coffman Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 7, 1904, in York, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Mary Lenore Morgan Crutchley.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Lorenzo Kline Sr.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She is survived by her second husband, David B. Adams; a daughter, Mary Alice Huntzberry of Clearwater, Fla.; two sons, Thomas F. Kline of Hagerstown and Richard L. Kline of Middletown, Md.; seven grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Lorenzo Kline Jr.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery.
There will be no viewing.
