Robert L. Turner
BALTIMORE - Robert Lee Turner, 85, of Baltimore, died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at Bon Secours Hospital, Baltimore.
Born Dec. 25, 1912, in Virginia, he was the son of the late George W. and Fannie Elizabeth Lucas Turner.
He was a welder and mechanic by trade.
He is survived by three daughters, Pearl Bowers of Hagerstown, and Jane Sanders and Dorothy Rush, both of Woodstock, Va.; four sons, Bobby Turner of Manassas, Va., George Turner of Hagerstown, Cleveland Turner and Gorman Turner, both of Winchester, Va.; three sisters, Louise Zettie Zello of Hagerstown, Virginia Amsley of Williamsport and Fannie Biser of Jugtown, Md.; two brothers, Frank Turner of Boonsboro and Thomas Turner of Hagerstown; 24 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Grace Bussard; and four brothers, Herman Turner, Leo Turner, William Turner and Jes Turner.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert V. Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Sarah C. Mace
Sarah Catherine Mace, 92, of 1100 Kuhn Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at Coffman Nursing Home.
Born Dec. 25, 1905, in Charles Town, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Joseph Cleveland Griffith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Leroy Mace, in 1982.
She retired in 1965 from L'Aiglon after 25 years.
She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty Crider of Keedysville; two sons, James Cleveland Rohrer and Joseph L. Rohrer, both of Hagerstown; two sisters, Nora Lohman of Sharpsburg and Nellie Schoppert of Cumberland, Md.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Morgan and Elizabeth Churchey; and two brothers, Mark Griffith and Joseph Griffith.
Services will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., in Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mary W. Kight
COLUMBIA, Md. - Mary W. Kight, of Howard County, died Friday, May 29, 1998.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Kight.
She is survived by one son, Charles L. Kight of Hagerstown; one daughter Patricia Harrington of Ellicot City, Md.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, Kurt Seiler.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on June 1 at the Church of Resurrection in Elliot City. Interment was at Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland, Md.
Arrangements were by Harry H. Witzke Family Funeral Home, Ellicot City.
Lora J. Wilson
BRUNSWICK, Md. - Lora Jane Osborne Wilson, 67, of 30 E. D St., died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at her home.
Born April 9, 1931, in Mountain View, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Lon and Almeda Smith. She was raised by the late Mabel and James Osborne.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, William Clem Wilson, in 1997.
She was a homemaker.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by four daughters, Cynthia K. George and Janice M. Marsh, both of Knoxville, Md., Sandra D. Moffett of Charles Town, W.Va., and Penny L. Swan of Purcellville, Va.; one son, Steven E. Wilson of Ijamsville, Md.; three sisters, Wanda Aschenbrener of California, Lois Carey of Missouri and Sylvia Dolt of Georgia; two brothers, Ray Smith and Gene Everett, both of Missouri; 16 grandchildren, including grandson Nicholas E. Wilson, whom she raised; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan D. Wilson; a son, William C. Wilson Jr.; four sisters, Leona Herd, Joyce Lyle, Faye Brooks and Darlene Cloud; and a brother, Jack Thomas.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church, Petersville, Md. The Rev. Edward Jordan will officiate. Burial will be in Park Heights Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick. The funeral home will be open today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Erich M. Schulze
Erich M. Schulze, 2, son of Joseph Bruce and Jean Marie Schulze of Hagerstown, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Natalie Marie Schulze of Hagerstown; a brother, Kyle Christopher Schulze of Hagerstown; paternal grandparents, Dirk and Eleanor Schulze of Middletown, Del.; maternal grandmother, Edith Paolillo of Dublin, Ohio; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

James G. Spizzo
MYERSVILLE, Md. - James Gullemo Spizzo, 79, of 11331 Pleasant Walk Road, died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at his home.
Born March 9, 1919, in Italy, he was the son of the late Leonardo D. and Maria Celeste Spizzo.
He was employed as an engineer with Chessie System for 37 years.
He was a member of Williamsport Redmen Lodge 84; and Moose Lodge of Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Spizzo; one daughter, Barbara Toms of Williamsport; two sons, Jerry Spizzo of Yellow Springs, Md., and James Spizzo of Frederick, Md.; one brother, Tony Spizzo of Hagerstown; five granddaughters; three grandsons; six great-granddaughters; four stepgrandchildren; and two stepchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev., George A. Limmer will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Grace V. Smith
MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Grace Virginia Smith, 64, of 4517 Pinewood Trail, died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
Born May 1, 1934, in Rochelle Park, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Fanny Anderson Gambriel.
She graduated from Hackensack High School in Hackensack, N.J.; and from Towson State University, Towson, Md.
She taught school in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
She started Middletown United Methodist Church Preschool in 1976.
She retired in 1991 for medical reasons from Frederick County YMCA, where she was director and teacher of Peanut Pals.
She was a member of Middletown United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Robert Hilton Smith Sr.; two daughters, Mary Jane Sipe of Etters, Pa., and Susan Eileen Grice of Hampstead, Md.; one son, Robert H. Smith Jr. of Middletown; and six grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Middletown United Methodist Church, Middletown. The Rev. Susan Halse will officiate.
Private graveside services will be held at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown.

Theresa Jo Ferguson
WILLIAMSPORT - Theresa Jo Hovermale Ferguson, 37, of Williamsport, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 21, 1960, in Islip, N.Y., she was the daughter of Roy B. and Betty L. McCoy Hovermale of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
She had been employed by Garden State Tannery in Williamsport for 10 years.
She was a member of Highland United Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs.
She was a member of Amalgamated Textile Workers Union 658T.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, James Gordon Ferguson Sr. of Williamsport; one daughter, Ashley Nicole Hovermale at home; one son, Richard Steven Hovermale at home; two stepdaughters, Jamie E. Ferguson of Downsville, and Janessa L. Ferguson of Hagerstown; one stepson, James G. Ferguson Jr. of Hagerstown; two sisters, Cindy L. Hovermale and Denise A. Omps, both of Berkeley Springs; two brothers, Kim R. Hovermale and Wesley D. McCoy, both of Berkeley Springs; three grandchildren; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Mary Gebe Stevens will officiate. Burial will be in Highland United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Helen L. French
WILLIAMSPORT - Helen Louise Shirley French, 66, of 3 W. Potomac St., died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at the home of her sister.
Born March 11, 1932, in Big Pool, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Jacob and Elsie Izora Pierce Shirley Sr.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. French.
She retired from Williamsport Exxon as a gas attendant.
She was a member of Williamsport Red Men Tribe 84 Pocohantus Lodge.
She is survived by three sisters, Gladys M. Mann of Smithsburg, Anna M. Summers of Big Pool and Betty J. West of Chambersburg, Pa.; and two brothers, David M. Shirley of Williamsport and Samuel J. Shirley of Hancock.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Calvin Shirley, Ernest Shirley, Edwin Shirley, Robert Shirley, Wade Shirley and Archie Shirley.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Robert E. Timmons will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
