Grover V. Bowers
KEEDYSVILLE - Grover Vincent "Curly" Bowers, 70, of 3525 Chestnut Grove Road, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at his home.
Born June 7, 1927, in Kaisiesville, Pa., he was the son of the late Emmert Vincent and Rose Ruebeck Bowers.
He retired from Jamison Door Co. in Hagerstown after 16 years. He formerly was employed at Hagerstown Rubber Co.
He attended Chestnut Grove Bible Church.
He was a member of Conococheague Tribe 84 Order of Red Men in Williamsport, and United Steel Workers Union local.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Alice Jones Bowers; three daughters, Beverly "Cookie" Riley of Toledo, Ohio, Vikki Eckstine of Hagerstown and Tammy Hall of Conway, S.C.; two sons, Emmert "Tim" Bowers of Mercersburg, Pa., and Jeffrey Bowers of Chestnut Grove, Md.; four sisters, Myrtle Early and Tony Deck, both of Mercersburg, Betty Blair of Clear Spring and Jean Johnson of Hancock; one brother, Harold Bowers of Kaisiesville; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert "Bobby" Bowers, two grandchildren; one great-grandson; and sisters and brothers.
Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Bruce Gephart will officiate. Burial will be in Samples Manor Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Jocie E. Richards
Jocie Emmajean Richards, 80, of 16439 Heather Ridge Road, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at her home.
Born Oct. 16, 1917, in Roanoke, Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert Adam and Nora Maude Kelly Guilliams.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Dowell Richards, in 1992.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Church of God Universal, Hagerstown.
She is survived by seven daughters, Sarah K. Durboraw, Barbara J. Adkins, Carolyn S. Smith, Alice F. Vinson, Martha J. Grimm and Janet W. Richards, all of Hagerstown, and Lois E. Henson of Falling Waters, W.Va.; four sons, Wayne D. Richards of Sicklerville, N.J., Ronald L. Richards of Mansfield, Ohio, Danny W. Richards of Falling Waters and Earl W. Richards of Hagerstown; four sisters, Opal Sigmon of Bluefield, W.Va., Bessie Cherry of Roanoke, Va., Jessie Manning of Hagerstown and Conova Lipes of Martinsburg, W.Va.; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nora Guilliams and Ethel Guilliams; and two brothers, Quincy Guilliams and Clarence Guilliams.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Church of God Universal, corner of Linganore Avenue and Hammond Street, Hagerstown. The Rev. Gregory E. Tyler will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The funeral home will be open Friday after 9 a.m.
Helen L. French
WILLIAMSPORT - Helen Louise Shirley French, 66, of 3 W. Potomac St., who died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Chapter 2116 Ladies Lodge.
Nettie E. Dagenhart
FREDERICK, Md. - Nettie Elizabeth Dagenhart, 91, a resident of Citizens Nursing Home and formerly of 1115 Young Place, Frederick, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born March 16, 1907, in Rohrersville, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Carrie West Holder.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmert Smith Dagenhart, in 1993.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Frederick Church of the Brethren and Homebuilders Sunday School class. She was formerly a member of Brownsville Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by one son, J. Richard Dagenhart of Rockville, Md.; one brother, Charles W. Holder of Rohrersville; three grandchildren, Sarah E. Dagenhart of Boonsboro, John R. Dagenhart of Frederick and Joseph C. Dagenhart of Keedysville; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by eight brothers, H. Augustus Holder, William R. Holder, James E. Holder, Jessy C. Holder, Floyd A. Holder, Roy W. Holder, R. Tilghman Holder and D. Maurice Holder.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Larry W. Fogle and the Rev. Charles R. Holder will officiate. Burial will be in Old Brownsville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Russell W. Sigler
BELLEVUE, Wash. - Russell W. Sigler, 69, born in Hagerstown, died Monday, June 1, 1998, in Bellevue, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Doris Sigler, in 1988.
He was a retired papermaker for Container Corp. of America.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was a member of Elks lodge 174.
He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Ann Nugent of Issaquah, Wash., and Patricia Louise Foster of Bellevue; six sisters, Mary Smith, Ruth Litten, Helen Smith, Betty Doyle, June Jamison and Wands Winters; three brothers, Howard Sigler, Layton Sigler and Donald Sigler; one granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 9 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Tacoma, Wash. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Tacoma.
Arrangements are by Gaffney Cassedy Allen & Buckley King Funeral Home, Tacoma.
Winifred S. Keefer
ROCKY RIDGE, Md. - Winifred "Winnie" Schell Keefer, 64, of 14829 Bollinger Road, died Monday, June 1, 1998, at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey Pa.
Born April 5, 1934, in Reading, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Cyrus and Sara Cleaver Schell.
She was a 1956 graduate of Pennsylvania State University, State College, Pa.
She worked as a social worker for 25 years. She retired in 1985 from Victor Cullen Center for the Mentally Retarded.
She was a member of Siberian Husky Club of America; Chesapeake Siberian Husky Club; Catoctin Kennel Club; and Mason/Dixon Sled Dog Club.
She enjoyed her flower garden from which she produced dried flower arrangements to share with her friends.
She is survived by her husband, Warren H. Keefer Jr., whom she married in 1953; one daughter, Schelly B. Keefer McKeown of Charlotte, N.C.; one son, Warren H. Keefer III of Waynesboro, Va.; a sister, Nancy Schell Putt of Robesonia, Pa.; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont, Md. The Rev. Duanne L. Beck will officiate. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends Friday at 7 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Samuel R. Kent
SMITHSBURG - Samuel R. Kent, 87, of 11808 St. Mary's Court, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, at Ravenwood Nursing Center.
He was born Jan. 10, 1911, in New York City.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Estelle Kent, in 1986.
He graduated from Long Island University.
He retired from the General Services Administration of the federal government after 40 years.
He was a congregant of B'nai Abraham in Hagerstown.
He was a member of Chapter 306 of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Funkstown Moose Lodge 2435 and BPO Elks Lodge 378.
He is survived by his wife, Maude Eccard Kent; one son Ronald A. Kent of Tacoma, Wash.; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Glendale, N.Y., at the convenience of the family.
The family requests the omission of flowers.
Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.
Irene K. Eakle
Irene Kline Tots Eakle, 79, formerly of Leitersburg, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at Coffman Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born July 3, 1918, in Cavetown, she was the daughter of the late Keller R. Kline Sr. and Maude H. Bear Kline.
She graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1936.
She was employed by J.C. Penney Co. in Waynesboro, Pa., People's Drug Store in Longmeadow Shopping Center, and Dr. Leatherman's office in Hagerstown.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Leitersburg, the church choir, Loyal Gleaners Sunday School Class and Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, Richard L. Eakle; two sons, Richard W. Eakle of Selbyville, Del., and Kelly F. Eakle of Hagerstown; one sister, Ruth M. Kinsey of Smithsburg; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Ima C. Kline, Mary M. Anderson, Pearl R. Leaman and Page M. Wolfgram; and one brother, Keller R. "Pete" Kline Jr.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Leitersburg. The Rev. Lans Alexis and Sandra Alexis will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the church.
