Wannah J. Moyers

WINCHESTER, Va. - Wannah J. Moyers, 87, of Winchester, died Sunday, June 14, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center.

Born June 3, 1911, in Marshall County, Va., she was the daughter of the late William H. and Alice Hall Greathouse.

Her first husband, Delbert McCain Sr., and her second husband, Otis Moyers, preceded her in death.

She retired from the C.H. Musselman plant.

She was a member of Guiding Light Gospel Center in Winchester.

She is survived by four daughters, Jestine Elizabeth Rush of Shepherdstown, W.Va., Alice Jackson of Middleway, W.Va., Lucille Gladden of Glengary, W.Va., and Nancy Funkhouser of Winchester; two sons, William McCain of Winchester, and Harley McCain Jr. of Falling Waters, W.Va.; 25 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Pansy Lucas; and three grandchildren.

Services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Charles Unger will officiate. Burial will be in Mountainside Tabernacle Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Jane M. Higgins

CLEAR SPRING - Jane Marie Suffecool Higgins, 62, of 12131 Hanging Rock Road, died Friday, June 12, 1998, at her home.

Born April 17, 1936, in Big Spring, Md., she was the daughter of the late Walter Suffecool, who died in May, and Margaret O'Leary Suffecool of Clear Spring.

She was a 1953 graduate of Clear Spring High School.

She was formerly employed by Hagerstown Shoe Co. and Maryland Ribbon Co. She also was a homemaker.

She was a member of Greencastle (Pa.) Church of God.

She was a member of Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Leister Higgins of Clear Spring; a daughter, Robin Straley of Greencastle; a son, Craig Higgins of Big Pool, Md.; three sisters, Dorothy Benner of Elkridge, Md., Shirley Rager of Hagerstown and June Bittinger of Riva, Md.; four brothers, Walter Suffecool of Williamsport, William Suffecool of Boonsboro, Ralph Suffecool of Clear Spring and Gary Suffecool of Mount Crawford, Va.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Floyd Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Blairs Valley Cemetery, Clear Spring.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Terrance R. Bowens

KNOXVILLE - Terrance Rydell Bowens, 9, of 1514 Jefferson Pike, died Friday, June 12, 1998, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Born Jan. 30, 1989, in Frederick, Md., he was the son of Larry Herman Bowens II and Crystal Lynne Johnson of Knoxville.

He attended Valley Elementary School in Jefferson, Md.

He was a member of Mount Zion AME Church in Knoxville and sang with Mount Zion Little Angels.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Brittany Nicole Bowens and Erica Sabrina Bowens, both at home; a brother, Larry Herman Bowens III, at home; four grandmothers, Mary E. Johnson, Doris Bowens and Elsie Miller, all of Frederick, and Orpha Henderson of Hagerstown; three grandfathers, Stanley Ambush and Larry Miller Sr., both of Frederick, and Melvin Henderson of Hagerstown; four great-grandmothers, Gladys Henderson, Elsie Miller and Adeline Diggs, all of Frederick, and Mary Johnson of Burkittsville, Md.; three great-grandfathers, Donald Henderson of Brunswick, Md., Roscoe Johnson of Burkittsville, and Charles Genus of Frederick; two aunts, two uncles and cousins.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion AME Church in Knoxville. The Rev. Richard C. Dyson will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside United Methodist Church Cemetery, Jefferson.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to services on Wednesday.

Memorial donations may be made to the family in care of Wanda Barber, 157 Fairfield Drive, Frederick, Md. 21702.

Arrangements are by John T. Williams Funeral Home, Brunswick.

Norma E. Miller

Norma Elaine Miller, 74, formerly of Spiceberry Court, Hagerstown, died Sunday, June 14, 1998, at Fahrney Keedy Home in Boonsboro.

Born Jan. 28, 1924, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Herman Lee and Bertha Mae Ausherman Harbaugh.

Her husband, Joseph R. Miller, died in 1976.

She was a member of Christ's Reformed Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Christie Beittel of Austin, Texas; a son, Joseph R. Miller III of Hagerstown; three granddaughters, Tracy Crist of Downsville, and Katie Beittel and Amanda Beittel, both of Austin; two grandsons, Jamie Miller of Greencastle, Pa., and Joseph R. Miller IV of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. James R. Swecker will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Ralph B. Naille

JEFFERSON, Md. - Ralph B. Naille, 76, of Jefferson, died Saturday, June 13, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 28, 1922, in Church Hill, Md., he was the son of the late Lester and Mary Routzahn Naille.

He was a truck driver for Frederick Trading Co. in Frederick, Md., retiring in 1986 after 26 years.

He was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Myersville, Md.

He also was a member of Jefferson Volunteer Fire Co.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Bussard Naille; two sons, Richard L. Naille of Jefferson and John L. Naille of Brunswick, Md.; a sister, Alice Naille Baker of Cearfoss; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Naille Cline; and three brothers, Elvin Naille, Cecil Naille and Bill Naille.

Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Main St., Myersville. Pastors David Howell and Jurgen Hilke will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville, today from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 13, Myersville, Md. 21773.

Frances V. Sappington

Frances V. Sappington, 84, of 433 Michigan Ave., Hagerstown, died Saturday, June 13, 1998, at her home.

Born Nov. 8, 1913, in Unionville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Nettie M. Lugenveel Sappington.

She was a 1932 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

She retired in 1975, and was a nurse at Mount Wilson State Hospital in Baltimore.

During World War II, she was a second lieutenant, serving in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in the South Pacific.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

She is survived by a sister, Mary E. Sappington of Hagerstown; and a brother, Ridgely G. Sappington of Hagerstown.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles P. Sappington and Shirner Sappington.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hagerstown, with the Rev. Jack Fullen as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic Church Cemetery in Libertytown, Md.

Visitation will be held at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., today from 5 to 7 p.m.

James E. Socks

FUNKSTOWN - James Edgar Socks, 72, of Funkstown, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at Western Maryland Center, Hagerstown.

Born Aug. 3, 1925, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Charles Edgar Socks and Mabel Hoffman Socks McCoy.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre.

He was employed with Western Maryland Railroad,retiring from CSX after 40 years as a conductor.

He was a member of Church of the Holy Trinity, Halfway.

He was a member of United Transportation Union for Retirees. He was a former member of Western Maryland Old Timer's Club; was past District 2 director for International Coachmen Caravan; and past president and wagon master for Local Chapter 55 Coachman Petes Pals. He was a member of American Legion, Funkstown Dixon-Troxell Post 211; and Alcoholics Anonymous for more than 15 years.

He is survived by his wife, Edna Violet Nelson Socks, whom he married April 23, 1946; one daughter, Kay K. Socks of Funkstown; one son, Terry Lee Socks of Hagerstown; one granddaughter; one grandson; and two great-granddaughters.

Memorial services will be announced at a late date.

There will be no viewing.

Burial at sea will be handled by the U.S. Navy.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Dawn M. Rohrer

BOONSBORO - Dawn Marie Rohrer, 29, of 8313 Mapleville Road, died Monday, June 15, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born June 13, 1969, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Edward L. "Pete" and Connie L. Reese Rohrer.

She was a graduate of Marshall Street Education Center and attended Down Home Adult Day Care, Williamsport.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandmother, Joan J. Reese of Clear Spring; maternal grandfather and stepgrandmother, John D. and Linda Reese of Bonita Springs, Fla.; fraternal grandmother, Phyllis Rohrer of Hagerstown; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her fraternal grandfather, Willard Rohrer.

Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Bryan Bailey will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Down Home Day Care, 16107 Elliott Parkway, Williamsport, Md. 21795.
