Earl B. Monninger

PELZER, S.C. - Earl Bradley "Brad" Monninger, 41, of 219 Eastview Road, died Monday, June 15, 1998, at his home.

Born in Hagerstown, he was the son of Ruby C. Hagar and the late Earl E. Monninger.

He was employed by Lockheed Martin, and owned Monninger Auto Sales.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Sandra "Sandy" Gill Monninger; two sons, Shawn Robert Monninger at home and Bradley Earl Monninger of Piedmont, S.C.; a stepson, Travis Ray Hanley of Williamston, S.C.; his stepfather, Ray Hagar of New Martinsville, W.Va.; a sister, Debbie Shank of Oakland, Md.; a niece; and a nephew.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer. The Rev. Robert Shank and Thomas DeVenny will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens, Greenville, S.C.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Clarence W. Emerson

WILLIAMSPORT - Clarence Wilbur Emerson, 92, formerly of 16610 Virginia Ave., died Friday, June 12, 1998, at Homewood Retirement Center, Williamsport.

Born Nov. 4, 1905, in Pinesburg, Md., he was the son of the late Hunter Wilbur and Bessie Lee Miller Emerson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Naomi Jennings Emerson, in 1985.

He served as treasurer and retired in 1973 as president of McComas-Armstrong Insurance Co., Hagerstown. Prior to his retirement he was vice president of Blue Ridge Insurance Co., Hagerstown.

He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Williamsport.

He was a member of Alsatia Club Inc.; and Kiwanis International, Hagerstown.

He is survived by one daughter, Patricia Ann Mims of Lancaster, Pa.; one son, William K. Emerson of Williamsport; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Pearl Emerson and Leila Miller; and one brother, George Emerson.

Memorial services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 37 W. Potomac St., Williamsport. The Rev. W. Gregory Martin will officiate. Burial was held at the convenience of the family in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Memorial donations may be made to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 37 W. Potomac St., Williamsport, Md. 21795.

Arrangements are by Osborne Funeral Home, Williamsport.

Margaret K. Ringler

Margaret Katherine Ringler, 90, of 20021 Tillman Ave., Hagerstown, died Monday, June 15, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 23, 1908, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of the late Sylvester K. and Ida Smith Ringler.

She was a graduate of Flintstone High School, Flintstone, Md. She received a bachelor's degree from Western Maryland College and a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin. She studied at Frostburg State University, Temple University and University of Maryland.

She was employed by the Washington County Board of Education as principal at Maugansville Elementary School.

She was a life member of Maryland Congress of Parents and Teachers. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society for key women teachers, Maryland Teachers Association, National Education Association and 4-H All Stars.

She is survived by one brother, Stanford Ira Ringler of Hagerstown.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown. The Rev. Jim L. Hamby will officiate.

Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.

Richard E. Staley

PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Richard E. Staley, 63, of Prescott, died Monday, June 15, 1998, at his home.

Born Sept. 24, 1934, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Lewis H. and Kathyrn McAllister Staley.

A Korean War veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years.

He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years, retiring in 1994.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Janice L. Staley; one daughter, Jill Staley of North Highlands, Calif.; one son, Matthew Staley of Prescott; five sisters, Hilda Trovinger, Betty Keller, Jean Hill, Gloria Clevenger and Joan Forcino, all of Hagerstown; one brother, George Staley of Hagerstown; and two grandchildren.

A private cremation will be held at Mountain View Crematory in Prescott.

Arrangements are by Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home, 303 S. Cortez St., Prescott.

Richard M. Leiter

CROSS JUNCTION, Va. - Richard Maxwell Leiter, 75, of 111 Masters Drive, died Wednesday, June 17, 1998, at his home.

Born May 20, 1923, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Franklin Scott and Edna McCardell Leiter.

He was a graduate of Hagerstown High School and Lehigh University.

He was owner and CEO of the U.S. Business Service Co. Inc. in Burlington, N.J., and vice president of marketing for Celanese Corp.

He was a member of Plastic Engineers and Phi Delta Theta.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy C. Fleming Leiter; three daughters, Linda Hines of Staten Island, N.Y., Midge Leiter of Portsmouth, N.H., and Susan Ippoliti of South Brunswick, N.J.; one stepdaughter, Marline May of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two stepsons, Paul Ryan of Cambrian Park, Calif., and Kevin Ryan of Placerville, Calif.; two sisters, Anna Hershey and Catherine Bowman, both of Hagerstown; one brother, Franklin S. Leiter Jr. of Hagerstown; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Carroll Boyer will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, Va. 22601.

Benny A. Boyer

MYERSVILLE, Md. - A memorial service for Benny A. Boyer, who died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, will be held Sunday, June 21, at 1 p.m. at his home, 3229 Ward Kline Road, Myersville. Pastor David Howell will officiate.

James E. Socks

FUNKSTOWN - James Edgar Socks, 72, of Funkstown, who died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, is survived by one half sister, Mary McCoy Fogle of Funkstown; four half brothers, Raymond McCoy, Charles McCoy and Robert McCoy, all of Hagerstown, and William McCoy of Funkstown.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Edna Gaynell Socks; and a half sister, Anna Mae McCoy Stockslager.

Thelma A. Harmon

BOONSBORO - Thelma Adalade Harmon, 76, of 21449 Greenbrier Road, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 7, 1921, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Polly Hoffman Vance.

She was a school teacher with Washington County Board of Education for 30 years before retiring. She taught at Greensburg, Mount Lena, Greenbrier and Woodland Way elementary schools.

She was a member of Beaver Creek Christian Church, where she had taught Sunday school; and was active in fund-raising.

She was a member of Washington County Teachers Association; Maryland State Teachers Association; and National Education Association. She was a volunteer with Hospice of Washington County.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles E. Harmon; one daughter, Sandra Harmon of Baltimore; one son, Richard Harmon of Bel Air, Md.; one sister, June Renner of Boonsboro; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Francis Butler and Gladys Mahone.

Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. J. Mark Curran will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

W. Earl Neikirk

CAVETOWN - W. Earl "Baldy" Neikirk, 81, of Cavetown, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at Colton Villa Nursing Home, Hagerstown.

Born March 28, 1917, in Clear Spring, he was the son of the late Grover C. and Ida Hollinger Neikirk.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He retired from Antietam Equipment, Smithsburg; and was employed by Hahn's Amoco, Cavetown.

He was a member of Welty Church of the Brethren, Greensburg, Md.

He was a life member of Smithsburg Volunteer Fire Co.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel C. Dunham Neikirk; two daughters, Bernice N. Rinehart of Hagerstown and Darlene W. Kendle of Boonsboro; three sisters, Pearl Roth of Greencastle, Pa., Ruth "Pat" Smith of Greensburg, and Betty Thompson of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Thompson and Arabel Royer; and two brothers, Lawrence Neikirk and Melvin Neikirk.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. Pastor Sandra Alexis will officiate. Burial will be in Brown's Mill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Maynard M. Ramsburg

THURMONT, Md. - Maynard Martin Ramsburg, 80, of 15147 Kelbaugh Road, died Monday, June 15, 1998, at College View Nursing Home, Frederick, Md.

Born Sept. 9, 1917, in Hansonville, Md., he was the son of the late Oscar Cleveland and Elsie Clem Ramsburg.

He served in the U.S. Army, during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

He retired from Thurmont Shoe Co. in 1979 due to illness.

He was a member of Apple's United Church of Christ, Thurmont.

He was a life member of Edwin C. Creeger Jr. Post 168 American Legion, Thurmont.

He is survived by his wife, Prudence Ruth Gearhart Ramsburg, whom he married Oct. 27, 1945; a daughter, Judy Ramsburg Hoffman of Frederick; two half sisters, Mildred Burch and Doris Cavell, both of Frederick; one half brother, Robert Ramsburg of Brunswick, Md.; and a stepsister, Mae Carty of Brookhaven, Pa.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Naomi Shook; two brothers, Markwood Ramsburg and Roger Ramsburg; and his stepmother, Mabel Shook.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Thurmont Funeral Home of Robert E. Dailey and Son, 615 E. Main St. The Rev. David Denham will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

The family received friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Apple's United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 266, Thurmont, Md. 21788.
