Carl D. DeNeen
BROOKSVILLE, Fla. - Carl D. DeNeen, of Tapestry Circle, Spring Hill, Fla., and formerly a resident of Huntsville, Ala., and Hancock, died Thursday, June 18, 1998, at Oak Hill Hospital, Brooksville.
Born in Hancock, he was the son of the late Harry B. and Lillian O. Boxwell DeNeen.
He retired in 1973 from the transportation division of NASA in Huntsville.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
He was a member of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, Hancock.
He was a member of Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion; James W. Bowers Lodge 173 AF & AM, both in Hancock; a member of VFW; Cahaba Temple; and York Rite Masonic Bodies, all in Huntsville.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Virginia Exline DeNeen of Spring Hill; two sisters, Naomi Youngblood of Hancock and Rhea Arnold of Romney, W.Va.; two nieces; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Parsana Smuthers and Ellen Octavia McCoy; and two brothers, Harry Layton DeNeen and Maurice Boxwell DeNeen.
Services will be Monday at 8 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. Edward James and the Rev. Robert D. Smith Sr. will officiate. Entombment will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
JoAnn L. Myers
JoAnn Lois Myers, 56, of 751 South Potomac St., Hagerstown, died Friday, June 19, 1998, at her home.
Born May 27, 1942, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of Paul Leslie and Naomi Ruth Hardsock Beaver Sr. of Hagerstown.
She was self employed, as a daycare provider, retiring in 1996.
She was a member of Calvary Temple in Williamsport.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Jack Myers; three daughters, Kimberly Drees and Karen Gleason, both of Hagerstown and Kelli Myers of Storrs, Conn.; two sons, Todd Myers of Hagerstown and Jamie Myers of Halfway; one stepson, Kerri Myers of Williamsport; two sisters, Anna Mae Mills of Black Rock, Md. and Shirley Grams of Boonsboro; one brother, Paul Leslie Beaver Jr. of Burkittsville, Md.; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert V. Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Rose M. Swope
Rose M. Swope, 59, of Manor Drive, Hagerstown, died Thursday, June 18, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Nov. 3, 1938, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Edgel L. and Ethel L. Sauders Moore Sr.
She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of Eagles N0694 in Hagerstown, and Owl's Nest 1780 in Hagerstown.
She is survived by her husband, Mitchell F. Swope Sr.; two daughters, Sandy Foust and Betty Ann Maupin, both of Hagerstown; a son, George Smith of Tennessee; a stepdaughter, Eva J. Seiler of Hagerstown; two stepsons, Mitchell F. Swope Jr. of Spring Grove, Pa., and Rodger L. Swope of Hagerstown; a sister, Mary Hart of Hagerstown; three brothers, Edgel L. Moore Jr., Richard L. Moore Sr. and Robert L. Moore, all of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg. Pastor Donald Evason will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Smithsburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Frank L. Miller Jr.
Frank Lewellyn Miller Jr., 81, of Hagerstown, died Friday, June 19, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 7, 1917, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Frank L. and Selinda Johnson Miller Sr.
He was employed by Maryland Correctional Training Center for 28 years.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in Europe. He was in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine V. Miller; a brother, James Miller of Hagerstown; a niece and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Madeline Miller; and a brother, Gerald Miller.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Edna R. Hoover
Edna Ruth "Booty" Hoover, 76, of 702 Guilford Ave., Hagerstown, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at her home.
Born April 15, 1922, in Chewsville, she was the daughter of the late Russell Calvin and Edna Irene Baechtel Ausherman.
Her husband, Orville J. Hoover I, died in 1984.
She was employed as an aide in the transportation department of Washington County Association for Retarded Citizens.
She was a Methodist.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of North American Rod and Gun Club.
In 1995, she was honored as Outstanding Employee of Transportation with the Washington County Association for Retarded Citizens.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara A. Williams of Brunswick, Md., and Kelly L. Schley of Valleyview, Pa.; a son, Terry Hoover of Smithsburg; five sisters, Maxine Marcey of Arlington, Va., Mary Clark of Hagerstown, Bette Longanecker of Chewsville, Jeanne Monn of Greencastle, Pa., and Nancy Hebb of Smithsburg; three brothers, Russ Ausherman of Hagerstown, Gary Ausherman of Waynesboro, Pa., and Jack Ausherman of Hagerstown; a special friend and companion, Winsel D. Sears of Hagerstown; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Loyal H. Vanderveer will officiate. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Heather M. Frecon
FREDERICK, Md. - Heather M. Frecon, 29, of 1738 Heather Lane, died Thursday, June 18, 1998, at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
Born Oct. 31, 1968, in York, Pa., she was the daughter of Gary L. and Beth A. Hied Johnson of Chambersburg, Pa.
She was a 1987 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School and a 1989 graduate of Bradley Academy in York, Pa.
She was employed by Wal-Mart in Frederick, where she was active in organizing fund-raisers for charitable causes in the area, including several for Women In Need. She also was employed with All About Celebration in Frederick.
She was a member of Monocacy Valley Church in Frederick, and the Book Club. She also was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Chambersburg.
She was a member of Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Chambersburg; Women of the Moose 1128 in Chambersburg; was a Brownie Troop leader in Frederick; an instructor with the Belvedere Majorette Group; and volunteered at South Mountain Restoration Center in South Mountain, Pa.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Benjamin R. Frecon, whom she married April 28, 1990; two daughters, Shaelyn E. Frecon and Emma K. Frecon, both at home; two brothers, Gary L. Johnson Jr. and Todd R. Johnson, both of Chambersburg; paternal grandparents, Lamar and Wilma Johnson of Chambersburg; maternal grandparents, Robert and Phyllis Hied of Brooksville, Fla.; and maternal great-grandmother, Geraldine Hied of Franklin, Pa.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 1811 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg. The Revs. Stephen W. Hoffman and Mary Ann Wierks will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery in Chambersburg.
A viewing will be held at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, today from 6 to 9 p.m.

Elizabeth Marpel Kendall
Mary Elizabeth Marpel Kendall, 64, of 16913 Pickwick Lane, Hagerstown, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Sept. 29, 1933, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William Lawrence and Edna Josephine Hovermill Marpel.
She was a graduate of Washington County Hospital Nursing Program.
She was a retired registered nurse at Washington County Hospital, serving as head nurse on the second floor for many years. She also was employed by Fairfax General Hospital as night supervisor in the operating room. She also served as a restaurant manager for many years.
She was a member of Trinity Bible Church in Hagerstown.
She and her husband hosted the Sunday morning Gospel program, Old Country Church Hour of WYII.
She is survived by her husband, George Lawrence Kendall of Hagerstown; a stepson, Todd B. Kendall of Falling Waters, W.Va.; a sister, Edythe M. Rickard of Hagerstown; three stepgrandchildren; two nieces and two nephews.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Betty D. Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Christopher A. Silva
ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Christopher A. Silva, of Alexandria, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Thursday, June 18, 1998, at his home.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Tritapoe.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Lovettsville, Va. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Lovettsville.
Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association or New Jerusalem Lutheran Church.
