Franklin D. Willson

MYERSVILLE, Md. - Franklin DeSales Willson, 84, of Bittle Road, died Friday, July 17, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born July 8, 1914, in the Panama Canal Zone, he was the son of the late Frederick and Edith Rickert Willson.

He was a graduate of Western High School, Washington, D.C. He attended Virginia Military Institute and graduated from William and Mary College.

He retired from Sears Roebuck after 29 years of service. He then raised Black Angus for 23 years.

He was a member of Church of the Transfiguration of Braddock Heights.

He was active in Scouting.

He was a member of Angus Association, Myersville Lions Club and Frederick County Farm Bureau. He also was a member of S.A.R., Society of the Ark and the Dove, Somerset Chapter of Magna Charta Barons and Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Schwerin Willson; two daughters, Melissa Voellinger of Austin, Texas and Chris Baugher of Boonsboro; a son, Frank Willson Jr. of Middletown; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Aug. 2 at the family home at 3549 Bittle Road, Myersville.

Arrangements are by Ricketts Funeral Home, Myersville.

John W. Snyder Sr.

John William Snyder Sr., 61, of 407 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, July 14, 1998.

Mary R. Martin

Mary Rosezella Martin, 94, of Hagerstown, died Friday, July 17, 1998, at Fahrney-Keedy Nursing Home, Boonsboro.

Born March 6, 1904, in Smithsburg, she was the daughter of the late Barry O. and Addie Justice Swope.

She was employed by Dr. James Sachs' family as a nanny, for 49 years.

She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Hildred M. Harris and Patricia Long, both of Hagerstown; two granddaughters; two grandsons; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Dennis L. Upton will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert O. Snyder

ANNAPOLIS - Robert Orville "Pop" Snyder, 89, of Annapolis, died Thursday, July 16, 1998, at his home.

He was a 1926 graduate of Randallstown High School and he attended the College of Engineering at University of Maryland.

He worked as an aeronautical engineer for Glenn L. Martin Co. in Baltimore in the 1930s and 1940s, Fairchild Aircraft in the 1950s and 1960s in Hagerstown, and Duvinage Co. in Hagerstown in the 1970s. He was a mechanical engineer with Greene and Seaquist in Annapolis in the late 1970s and later worked at the copy center in the Maryland State House in Annapolis.

He was a member of St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Annapolis.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge of Pikesville, Md.

He loved to fish, ride motorcycles and make motorized riding toys for his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Evelyn M. Strauss Snyder; three children, Roberta Wachter of Goldsboro, N.C., John W. Snyder of Wilmington, Del., and James R. Snyder of Davidsonville, Md.; a sister, Dorothy Kemp of Milford Mill, Md.; a brother, Carroll "Bo" Snyder of Randallstown, Md.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service and reception will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Forest Drive and Spa Road, Annapolis.

Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 1041 Route 3 North, Gambrills, Md. 21054; or St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1120 Spa Road, Annapolis, Md. 21403.

Hilda M.S. Hose

Hilda Marie Shives Hose, 66, of 533 Frederick St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, July 18, 1998, at her daughter's home, 14716A Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.

Born Sept. 14, 1931, in Mercersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Alfred Shives and Elva Hornbaker Gearhold. She was the stepdaughter of the late David Gearhold.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell LeRoy Hose, in 1997.

She retired from Richardson's Restaurant as a cook. She had been a cook at various Hagerstown restaurants for 31 years.

She was a member of Maranatha Brethren Church.

She was a member of AARP.

She is survived by two daughters, Constance I. Martin and Anita C. Peck, both of Hagerstown; one son, Darrin E. Hose of Hagerstown; two sisters, Beatrice Marquz of Warfordsburg, Pa., and Helen Hose of Hagerstown; three brothers, Lewis Gearhold, Frank Gearhold and David Gearhold, all of Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by several sisters and brothers.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. Pastor Jay Fretz will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Clyde I. Fitz

Clyde Ira Fitz, 79, 1022 St. Clarie St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, July 19, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 9, 1918, in Antrim Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Newton K. Fitz and Emma Potter Fitz Baker. He was the stepson of the late Herman C. Baker.

He retired from Fairchild Aircraft in 1981 after 41 years of service.

He was a veteran of World War II. He served with A Battery, 68th AFA, First Armored Division in North Africa and Italy.

He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.

He was a member of Middleburg Mason-Dixon Historical Society; UAW-CIO Retirees; First Armored Division Association; Morris Frock American Legion Post 42; VFW Post 1936 and BPO Elks 378. He was a former member of Loyal Order of Moose; Fraternal Order of Eagles 694, Waynesboro, Pa.; AMVETS Post 10; DAV Post 10; and Red Men Tribe 80, Williamsport.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret L. Fitz; one daughter, Dawn L. Mongan of Hagerstown; three sisters, Mildred Haynes of Boonsboro, Ruth Buss of Columbia, Md., and Alice Salvatore of Hagerstown; three brothers, Keller Fitz of Clear Spring, Harold "Gus" Baker of Hagerstown, and Ralph Baker of Freeport, Pa.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nellie Burcham and Elizabeth Fitz; and two brothers, Thomas Fitz and Wilbur Fitz.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to First Armored Division Association, P.O. Box 2088, Elizabethtown, Ky. 42702-2088.

Russell C. Brousseau

WILLIAMSPORT - Russell Charles Brousseau, 79, of 10913 Stuart Drive, and formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y., died Thursday, July 16, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 23, 1918, in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Russell Henry and Catherine Callahan Brousseau.

He was a graduate of Polytechnic Institute, Brooklyn.

He was employed as a metallurgical engineer by Republic Aviation, Farmingdale, N.Y., and Fairchild Industries in Hagerstown, retiring after 35 years of service. He also was a consulting engineer with AVCO Corp. of Nashville, Tenn.

He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater.

He was a former member and treasurer of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hicksville, N.Y., and served in this capacity at Concordia Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.

He was a member of American Legion Post 202, Williamsport.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frances Brousseau; one daughter, Joan Klick of Bedminster, N.J.; one son, Russell Brousseau II of Hicksville; one brother, Royal A. Brousseau of Washington, D.C.; and five grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing.

Memorial donations may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church, 17906 Garden Lane, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, Hagerstown.

Donald L. Gaver

MYERSVILLE, Md. - Donald L. "Sonny" Gaver, 59, of Wolfsville Road, died Saturday, July 18, 1998, at his home.

Born April 3, 1939, in Frederick County, Md., he was the son of the late John E. and Kathryn E. Lewis Gaver.

He retired in July after 43 years with Statton Furniture Co., Hagerstown.

He was a life member of Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, Myersville.

He was a member of Buchannon Valley Rod and Gun Club, Biglerville, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Bussard Gaver; one daughter, Donna Ann Richardson of Myersville; two sons, Randy Scott Gaver of Leitersburg and Ronnie Leon Gaver of Romney, W.Va.; one sister, Joyce Harshman of Myersville; three brothers, Maynard Gaver and Eugene Gaver, both of Myersville, and Stephen Gaver of Boonsboro; two foster sisters, Kathy Leatherman and Bonnie Walters, both of Frederick, Md.; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis Gaver and David Gaver.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, Myersville. The Rev. James Flora and the Rev. David Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, P.O. Box 575, Myersville, Md. 21773; or Hospice of Frederick County, 1730 N. Market St., Frederick, Md. 21701.

Zella O. Haller

BOONSBORO - Zella Olive Haller, 88, a resident of Fahrney-Keedy Home, and formerly of 28 Young Ave., died Monday, July 20, 1998, at the nursing home.

Born March 5, 1910, in Orion, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jacob Henry Foreman and Sarah Ruth Younkins Foreman Butts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Ernest Haller, in 1970.

She retired in 1984 after 20 years of service as a nursing assistant at Fahrney-Keedy Home.

She was a member of Tri-State Church of God, Boonsboro.

She was the last of her immediate family. She is survived by three stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Tri-State Church of God, 7605 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. James J. Caldwell will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tri-State Church of God, 7605 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Md. 21713.
