Arthur P. Moon Jr.
Arthur Paul Moon Jr., 78, of 130 Sunflower Drive, Hagerstown, died Sunday, July 19, 1998, at Williamsport Nursing Home, Williamsport.
Born Aug. 8, 1919, in Rochester, N.Y., he was the son of the late Arthur Paul and Anna M. Cavanaugh Moon.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served from 1941 to 1945, with three years in Europe. He also served from 1950 to 1960, with part of that time in Japan.
In 1960, he joined Eaton Labs, a division of Norwich Pharmaceutical Co., Norwich, N.Y. During this time, he was a major in the Medical Service Corps of the U.S. Army Reserves.
He was employed by Walter Reed Army Institute of Research as a civilian parasitologist, retiring in 1979.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Hagerstown.
He was a member of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene; American Society of Parasitologists and National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Doyle Moon; three daughters, Therese Ann Pittman of Austin, Texas, Joanne Kathleen Boyd of Richland, Wash., and Mary Ann Vogel of Gaithersburg, Md.; two sons, Patrick P. Moon of Massachusetts and Arthur "Mike" Moon of Hagerstown; one sister, Joan M. Moon of Kensington, Md.; nine grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 17630 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. Christopher Moore will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

George M. Nethken
George M. Nethken, 89, of 1926 Applewood Drive, Hagerstown, died Sunday, July 19, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 16, 1909, in Elk Garden, W.Va., he was the son of the late Warder Reese and Caroline May Pritts Nethken.
He owned and operated North Branch Coal Co. in Western Maryland. In 1979, he retired from Major Motors in Ellicott City, Md.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He received a Silver Star. He was wounded at St. Lo on June 24, 1944. He returned to combat later that year for the Battle of the Bulge. He received a Presidential Unit Citation and received a Normandy Invasion Medal from the French government.
He attended Bethel United Methodist Church, Chewsville.
He was a member of American Legion Post 211 and 29th Division Association Lantern Post 729. He was a life member of VFW and Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Schmidt Nethken; one daughter, Gretchen Nethken Buddenhagen of Lake City, Texas; one sister, Louise F. Lusby of Prince Frederick, Md.; and one brother, W. Robert Nethken of Oakland, Md.
Memorial services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. John W. Schildt will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.

Harold H. Bowman
SMITHSBURG - Harold Hugh Bowman, 54, of 12238 Little Antietam Road, died Sunday, July 19, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 19, 1944, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Gladys B. Long Bowman of Smithsburg and the late Hugh W. Bowman.
He was a dairy farmer in the Chewsville area.
He was a member of St. Peter's Beard Lutheran Church, near Hagerstown.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association, North American Rod and Gun Club in Hagerstown and Washington County Farm Bureau.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Suzanne E. Winders of Hagerstown and Tricia A. Clopper of Smithsburg; three sisters, Sylvia G. Rodgers and Karen A. Turner, both of Smithsburg, and Katrina K. Poffenberger of Hagerstown; and three granddaughters.
Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Carroll L. Boyer will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mabel T. Boore
Mabel Texie Boore, 90, of 20233 Jefferson Blvd., Hagerstown, died Monday, July 20, 1998, at Coffman Nursing Home.
Born March 2, 1908, in Upper Tract, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Wellington F. and Mahala Hedrick Landis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Elmer Boore, in 1970.
She was a member of Wesleyan Methodist Church.
She was a member of Washington County Senior Citizens at the Alexander House.
She is survived by two daughters, Thelma E. Smith and Beverly J. Boward, both of Hagerstown; one son, Carl L. Boore of Hagerstown; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Ernest Boore and George A. Boore; one brother, George E. Boore; and one granddaughter.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert D. Swank Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Jesse J. Fulton Jr.
Jesse James Fulton Jr., 77, of 17718 Red Oak Drive, Hagerstown, died Sunday, July 19, 1998, at University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore.
Born Dec. 16, 1920, in Beaver Creek, he was the son of the late Jesse James Fulton Sr. and Cora E. Rudy Fulton.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn L. Rodgers Fulton, in 1967.
He attended local schools.
He was employed by Fairchild, retiring in 1987.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater.
He joined Local 842 UAW in 1941 and held various union positions, including president of Local 842 from 1961 to 1969. He served as chairman of the Fairchild P&M Unit.
He was a member of Church of the Holy Trinity.
He was a member of BPO Elks 378; Fraternal Order of Eagles 694; AMVETS Post 10; American Legion Morris Frock Post 42; and Conococheague Tribal Council 84.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Barbara Bender Fulton; two daughters, Ashley J. Fulton, at home, and Diane C. Fulton of Hagerstown; two sons, Curtis A. Fulton, at home, and Jesse J. Fulton III of Falls Church, Va.; one sister, Jane Fulton Mangione of River Bend, N.C.; one grandson; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Conrad H. Fulton.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Elder David Roberts will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Dorothy E. Wilson
Dorothy Eileen "Dot" Wilson, 81, of 61 West Side Ave., died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at her home.
Born Dec. 15, 1916, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Roy Jessie and Agnes May Stephens Demmitt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Wilson, in 1979.
She was previously employed with McCrory's for 15 years.
She was a life member of Washington Square United Methodist Church, a member of the Golden Rule Club, United Methodist Women and Ruth Circle.
She was a member of the West End Seniors.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Ann "Patsy" Weigand of Hagerstown; two grandchildren, Cheryl D. Weigand Ruff and Keith O. Weigand, both of Hagerstown; two great-granddaughters; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, George W. Demmitt, a twin, and Charles L. Demmitt.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Mabel T. Boore

Mary S. Himes
DUNDALK, Md. - Mary Sue Marken Himes, 61, of Dundalk, died Monday, July 20, 1998, at Bayview Medical Center, Baltimore.
Born June 6, 1937, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Dorothy Dixon and Arthur Marken.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ellsworth Himes.
She attended Old Washington Street High School in Hagerstown.
She was a member of St. Rita's Church in Dundalk.
She was a member of the Women's Club.
She is survived by four daughters, Cynthia Newlin of Hagerstown, Robin Williams and Debra Myers, both of Baltimore, and Teresa Hutchinsons of Washington, Pa.; two sisters; two brothers; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Monday, July 27, at 7 p.m. at St. Rita's Church in Dundalk.
