David S. Boyer
David Samuel Boyer, 78, of 211 W. Franklin St., Hagerstown, died Monday, July 20, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 1, 1919, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Max A. and Nellie Swartz Boyer.
He was employed by Fairchild Aircraft for 44 years, retiring in 1984.
He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He played the trombone in the church band and in Hagerstown Municipal Band.
He attended Antioch Christian Church in Big Cove Tannery, Pa., and was superintendent of the Sunday school for more than seven years.
He was a member of UAW Local 842.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia J. Weller Boyer, whom he married Nov. 4, 1944; a son, David Allen Boyer of Big Cove Tannery; a stepdaughter, D. Markay Hadley of Falling Waters, W.Va.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a half sister, Virginia Gearhart.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Carroll Boyer will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Carrie I. Lutz
MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Carrie Irene Lutz, 95, of 8735 Myersville Road, died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at National Lutheran Home, Rockville, Md.
Born March 1, 1903, in Myersville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles C. and Sadie Kinna Ford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip E. Lutz, in 1983.
She was a member of Harmony Community Lutheran Church, Myersville.
She is survived by three children, Mabel L. Pearl, Paul Lutz and Joyce Bushey, all of Middletown; a sister, Grace Ropp of Myersville, 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Lutz, in 1997.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Harmony Community Lutheran Church, Myersville. The Rev. Robert B. Ruble, her pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown.
Friends may call at any time today at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. The family will receive friends there from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Visitation also will be Friday one hour prior to services at the church.

Jesse H. Wyant
Jesse Harrison Wyant, 75, of 11814 Patrick Road, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at his home.
Born May 30, 1923, in Elkton, Va., he was the son of the late George and Mamie Hammers Wyant.
He was a 1941 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
He was employed by Western Maryland Railway Co. for 42 years, retiring in 1983 as division sales manager.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946.
He was a life member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
He was a member of Friendship Lodge 84 AF & AM. He was worshipful master of Hagerstown Lodge 217 AF & AM in 1955 and served as secretary for 27 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason, and was recently presented his 50-year pin. He was a life member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon Hagerstown Forrest 95 and served as scribe for 13 years. He was a past associate guardian and past guardian treasurer of Bethel 26, International Order of Job's Daughters. He was a 50-year member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42. He was a charter member of Western Maryland Railway Old Timers Club and Freestate Square Club. He was a member of VFW of Greencastle, Pa.; Eagles Club of Waynesboro, Pa.; Funkstown Moose Lodge 2435 and Western Enterprises Fire Co. He was an associate member of Thomas Pangborn Lodge 88 F.O.P. He was a former member of Ali Ghan Shrine Temple; Waynesboro Shrine Club; Chambersburg Club Inc. and Hagerstown Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Annabell Decker Wyant, whom he married Nov. 5, 1943; two daughters, Melanie Scalese of Elkridge, Md., and Suzanne Suffecool of Hagerstown; two sisters, Genevieve Wyant of Hagerstown and Louise Boykin of Wendell, N.C.; a brother, Robert Wyant of Smithsburg; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; three nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Owen E. Wyant, in 1987.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dennis Upton will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery. A military graveside service will be conducted by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Friendship Lodge will conduct a Masonic memorial service at 6:30 p.m.
Joshua L. Smith
BOONSBORO - Joshua Lee Smith, 17, of 307 N. Main St., died Monday, July 20, 1998.
Born Sept. 29, 1980, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Robert L. Smith Jr. of Hagerstown and Irene A. Kipe Smith of Boonsboro.
He was to be a senior at Boonsboro High School in the fall. He attended Career Studies Center, his junior year, studying criminal justice.
He was employed at Red Byrd Restaurant and South Mountain Plantation.
He planned to join the U.S. Marine Corps after high school graduation.
He was a member of Boonsboro High School Varsity Football team and Varsity Wrestling team, as well as the weightlifting program. Previously, he played for B AAA Football League; South Mountain Little League Division; and South County Senior League.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his stepmother, Kimberly S. Smith of Hagerstown; his former stepmother, Susan F. Hardy of Boonsboro; fraternal grandparents Robert L. and Josephine E. Smith Sr. of Boonsboro; stepgrandparents, Bob and Kim Sipes Sr. of Hancock; stepgrandmother, Shirley Michael of Hagerstown; a brother, Lucas J. Smith of Hagerstown; a stepbrother, Daniel J. Hardy of Boonsboro; aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lewis A. and Helen I. Kipe.
Religious memorial services will be Friday at 7 p.m. at Tri-State Church of God, 7605 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Robert Griffin will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing; however, the family will receive friends Friday one hour prior to services at the church.
There also will be an additional memorial service Monday at 7 p.m. beginning in the auditorium of Boonsboro High School, 10 Campus Ave., Boonsboro, and ending with a candlelight ceremony on the football field.

Ernest L. Brandenburg
Ernest L. Brandenburg, 79, of 20418 Jefferson Blvd., died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 1, 1919, in Chewsville, he was the son of the late Otha and Anna Parratt Brandenburg.
He was a supervisor with Landis Tool Co., retiring in 1979 after 42 years of service.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in the European Theater with the 8th Golden Arrow Infantry Division and received a Purple Heart.
He was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.
He was a member of Latco Foremans Club, B.P.O.E. Lodge 378, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Leiter Brandenburg; a niece, Patsy G. Murray of Hagerstown; a great-niece, Beth A. Murray of Baltimore; and a great-nephew, Dr. Samuel J. Murray II of Nashville, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Hultsch and Pearl Linder; and a brother, Howard Brandenburg.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. C. Albert Guyer will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Friday one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Margaret E. Myers
Margaret Emily Myers, 92, of 110 Bryan Place, died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at Coffman Nursing Home.
Born Aug. 12, 1905, in Brunswick, Md., she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Della Ferguson McKenzie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hershel Charles Myers.
She was a member of First Baptist Church on High Street in Hagerstown.
She is survived by a daughter, Janice D. Huber of Victorville, Calif.; a son, Charles G. Myers of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Wendall Gross will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.

Robert L. Beard
MARIETTA, Ga. - Robert L. "Bob" Beard, 72, of Marietta, died Tuesday, July 21, 1998.
A native of Hagerstown, Beard had lived in Marietta since 1963.
He was employed by Lockheed as an engineer for 25 years, retiring in 1988.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was a member of McEachern United Methodist Church and Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class.
He was a past member of West Cobb Lions Club and former member of Lockheed Management Club.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Beard; a daughter, Kathy Buick of Marietta; three sons, Rick Beard, Rod Beard and Rob Beard, all of Marietta; two sisters, Belva Hall and Geraldine Mcgaha, both of Hagerstown; and three grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at McEachern United Methodist Church in Powder Springs, Ga. The Revs. Jim Lowry and J.R. McAliley will officiate. Burial will be in Cheatham Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Marietta.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home, 180 Church St. N.E., Marietta.

Marie M. Marconi
Marie Mildred Marconi, 84, of 1051 Security Road, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 10, 1914, in Chewsville, she was the daughter of the late James and Fannie Scadden Lowman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pacifico Marconi, in 1981.
She was a former employee of Fairchild Aircraft.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Melton and Judy Shroeder, both of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; four sons, William Marconi of Greencastle, Pa., Robert Marconi of Waldorf, Md., and Thomas Marconi and Frank Marconi, both of Hagerstown; two sisters, Edna Shaffer of Cumberland, Md., and Clara Baker of Stafford, Va.; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by seven sisters, two brothers and a granddaughter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. George A. Limmer will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Friday at 7 p.m.
