C. Ray Green

THURMONT, Md. - Charles Ray Green, 70, of 13804 Graceham Road, died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.

Born Nov. 20, 1927, in Loys Station, Md., he was the son of the late Charles Lloyd and Ethel G. Beitler Green.

He was a graduate of Thurmont High School.

He served with the Maritime Service from 1945 to 1951 after graduating from the U.S. Maritime Service Training Station in Sheepshead Bay, N.Y. He later served two years with the U.S. Army, 3rd Army Area, 3rd Infantry Division, Signal Corps, Co. B, at Fort Benning, Ga.

He retired with 37 years of service from Moore Business Forms, Thurmont.

He was a life member of Thurmont Church of the Brethren.

He was a member of American Legion Post 11, Frederick; and National Rifle Association.

He was an avid boatsman and fisherman. He was a member of Belvedere Yacht Club in Arnold, Md., since 1975, and served as commodore in 1984 and 1985.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dorothy Barnhart Green; a daughter, Diane Chamberlin of Pennsylvania; and two sisters, Ruth G. Sayler and Dorothy Orrison, both of Thurmont.

Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Thurmont Church of the Brethren, 14 Altamont Ave., Thurmont. The Rev. J. David Eberly will officiate. Entombment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Frederick.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont, which will be open today from noon to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Amyloid Research, Boston University School of Medicine, 80 E. Concord St., L219, Boston, Mass. 02118.

Dorothy A. Viands

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. - Dorothy A. Viands, 76, of Lehigh Acres, died Wednesday, July 22, 1998.

Born Feb. 11, 1922, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Frank E. Tanger and Grace Irene Hull Tanger.

She was a Baptist.

She is survived by a daughter, Donna E. Eller of Lehigh Acres; a son, Denzil E. Viands of Hagerstown; a brother, Richard G. Scherer of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, 1660 Duke St., Alexandria, Va. 22314.

Annie E. Sucik

BALTIMORE - Annie Evelyn Sucik, 90, of 1600 Dundalk Ave., a resident of Future Care at Canton Harbor Nursing Home, died there Thursday, July 23, 1998.

Born March 4, 1908, in Summersville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Franklin and Nancy Jane Bailes Miller.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Sucik, in 1984. They were married July 25, 1944.

She did domestic work at Hotel Greencastle and at Oaks Motel, both in Greencastle, Pa.

She attended Antrim Assembly of God Church of Greencastle.

She is survived by a daughter, Wilsie Ann Belk of Cross Hill, S.C.; three sons, Charles Stull of Baltimore, John Sucik and Fred Sucik, both of Greencastle; three sisters, Ellen Lawson of Oak Hill, W.Va., Virginia Underwood of Fayetteville, W.Va., and Marie Elmore of Clearwater, Fla.; a brother, Lyle Miller of Fayetteville; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Albert Sucik, in 1973; and six brothers and sisters.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle. The Rev. Rodger D. Berkey will officiate. Burial will be in Brown's Mill Cemetery, Antrim Township, Pa.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Terry W. Pittsnogle

CUMBERLAND, Md. - Terry Wayne Pittsnogle, 44, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, in Cumberland.

Born Feb. 14, 1954, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Alston C. and Virginia E. Caton Pittsnogle.

He was a Protestant.

He is survived by two sisters, Marsha A. Pittsnogle of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Sandra S. Thompson of Hedgesville, W.Va.; three nieces, three nephews; and special friends Janet DiChiera, Gayle DiChiera and Eric DiChiera.

Services will be Monday at 7 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, 2060 Rosedale Cemetery Road, Martinsburg. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.

William H. O'Brien

William H. "Jack" O'Brien, 71, of 17508 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at his daughter's home in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Born Feb. 16, 1927, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late John A. and Delilah E. McBride O'Brien.

A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army with the 62nd Signal Battalion in Japan.

He graduated from Baltimore Tech School.

He retired from Pangborn Corp. and from Landis Tool Co.

He was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Madeline Snyder O'Brien; a daughter, Jeannie Ford of Berkeley Springs; three sons, Donald O'Brien of Hancock, David O'Brien of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Mickey O'Brien of Hagerstown; a sister, Lucille Crawford of Mercersburg, Pa.; a brother, Harry O'Brien of Hagerstown; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lynn, Russell and Donald O'Brien.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert Crider will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery. Graveside military services will be conducted by American Legion Morris Frock Post 42.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ana Lauren G. Nielson

FREDERICK, Md. - Ana Lauren Gabrielle Nielson, 1, of 7918 Old Seventh St., died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.

Born March 3, 1997, in Frederick, she was the daughter of Bradley Thomas and Stacey Lynn Shaw Nielson.

She is survived by her siblings, Bradley Nielson II, Christine Nielson, Marcus Nielson and Hayley Nielson, all at home; paternal grandparents, David C. Nielson of Alabama and Gail Pyne of Frederick; maternal grandmother, Jerry Shaw of Benton, Ark.; paternal great-grandparents, Chester D. and Martha A. Nielson of Huntsville, Ala.; maternal great-grandparents, Vera White of Benton and Merlin Shaw of Arkadelphia, Ark.; aunts and uncles; and cousins.

She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Harvey Joe Shaw in 1970 and Anna Reidel in 1988; and by maternal great-grandparents, Elmer Berry in 1991 and Ruth Shaw in 1997.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Fort Detrick Chapel. The Rev. Carl McKee will officiate. Burial will be in Babyland at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, and Monday one hour prior to the services at the chapel.

Memorial donations may be made to Frederick Memorial Hospital, 400 W. Seventh St., Frederick, Md. 21701.

Catherine B. Humphreys

WILLIAMSPORT - Catherine Boyle Humphreys, 85, of 16505 Virginia Ave., and formerly of Albany, N.Y., and St. Petersburg, Fla., died Thursday, July 23, 1998, at Homewood Retirement Center, Williamsport.

Born Dec. 13, 1912, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late John Emmet and Nellie Sullivan Boyle.

She was a homemaker and a teacher in St. Petersburg.

She was a member of St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, Williamsport.

She was a member of Brady Hospital Auxiliary, Albany; and St. Anthony's Hospital Auxiliary, St. Petersburg.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn W.S. Humphreys, whom she married June 22, 1944; a daughter, Mary Anne Burke of Hagerstown; a son, Glenn W.S. Humphreys III of Albany; a sister, Margaret Oltky of Centerville, Ohio; two brothers, Dr. John P. Boyle of St. Petersburg and Bernard T. Boyle of New Orleans; and four grandsons.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Boyle Tracey and Mary Boyle Dent.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, 32 E. Potomac St., Williamsport. The Rev. Alfred E. Smith will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, which will be open Sunday at 9 a.m.

Margaret H. Schetrompf

WILLIAMSPORT - Margaret Helen Schetrompf, 94, of 14848 Schetrompf Lane, died Friday, July 24, 1998, at Williamsport Nursing Home.

Born Aug. 1, 1903, in Amaranth, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John W. and Margaret Lehman Scriver.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Schetrompf, in 1982.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Clear Spring American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by two daughters, Doris "Rose Lee" Maphis of Nashville, Tenn., and Marie Churchey of Sharpsburg; a sister, Augusta Schetrompf of Warfordsburg, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Earl Schetrompf and Stanley Schetrompf; four sisters; three brothers; and a grandson.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Richard Yates will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
