Alta V. Ruth
BOONSBORO - Alta Virginia Ruth, 93, formerly of Boonsboro, died Friday, July 24, 1998, at Glade Valley Nursing Home in Frederick, Md. She had been a resident of Sunrise Assistant Living in Frederick for two years.
Born Sept. 6, 1904, in Glenolden, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Richard E. and Anna E. Mayer Jones.
She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Lee Roy Ruth, in 1981.
She had been employed with the Federal Highway Department for 12 years, retiring in 1968. She also had been employed with Leiter Brothers in Hagerstown for 15 years.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hagerstown and Senior Fellowship.
She was a member of National Association of Retired Employees.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Hilda E. Jones; and three brothers, Benjamin R. Jones, Walter G. Jones and Frederick Jones.
Services will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. David M. Buchenroth will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hilda L. Smith
Hilda Lorraine Smith, 93, of 223 W. Howard St., formerly of Lee Street, died Friday, July 24, 1998, at Colton Villa Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 12, 1905, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Charles Louis and Nannie Delilah Mann Lipes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Samuel Smith, in 1963.
She was retired from First National Bank and was a longtime employee of Hagerstown Rubber Co.
She was a member of Washington Square United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Virginia E. "Peg" Shull and Dorothy Jean Rodeffer, both of Hagerstown; a son, Richard H. Smith of Ormond Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a niece; and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Martin Smith; three brothers, Jason H. Lipes, Rodney Lipes and Dewey Lipes; and a niece.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Reno D. Kendall
DUNCAN, Okla. - Reno Daniel Kendall, 60, of 2404 N. North St., died Thursday, July 23, 1998, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Oklahoma City.
Born Jan. 3, 1938, in Smithsburg, he was the son of Dan and Carleda Holtzman Kendall.
He attended school in Smithsburg.
He was a retired painting contractor.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1955 to 1958.
He is survived by his wife, Leneva Kendall; one daughter, Rena Earley, of Silina, Kan.; three sons, Dan Kendall, Kenneth Kendall and Eric Kendall, all of Duncan; two sisters, Louise Sheedy and Margaret Wetzel, both of Maryland; two brothers, Charles Kendall, of Pennsylvania, and Ezra Holtzman, of Maryland; and six grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Assembly of God Church, Duncan. The Rev. Ron Meador will officiate. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Comanche, Okla.
Arrangements are by Carter-Smart Funeral Home, 1316 West Oak Avenue, Duncan.

Catherine A. Mowbray
Catherine Anna Mowbray, 86, of 516 Ridge Avenue, Hagerstown, died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at Ravenwood Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 8, 1911, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Rebecca Long Nave.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer C. Mowbray, in 1985.
She was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church, Hagerstown.
She is survived by two daughters, Peggy A. Shoemaker and Mary R. Brady, both of Falling Waters, W.Va.; two sons, George F. Bryan, of Hagerstown, and William F. Bryan, of Atlanta; two half sisters, Rose Marie Willard and Yvonne Leedy, both of Hagerstown; 10 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Homer C. Mowbray.
Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Pastor John Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Verona B. Smith
Verona Belle Smith, 48, of 114 Buena Vista Ave., Hagerstown, died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 9, 1950, in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Clayton Franklin and Roberta May Moyer Moreland.
She was a 1968 graduate of North Hagerstown High School.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 694.
She was a ham radio operator.
She is survived by her husband, Reuben Smith; three sons, Douglas Scott Kline and Timothy Reuben Smith, both at home, and Kevin Clayton Smith of Hagerstown; two sisters, Margaret "Rita" Deshong of Big Pool and Ruby Kline of Smithsburg; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, James Franklin Moreland and Clayton Granville Moreland.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Charlie Barney will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg, W.Va.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Anna M. Bailey
BARTON, Md. - Anna M. Bailey, 92, of High Street, died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Dec. 21, 1905, in Barton, she was the daughter of the late John and Ellen Lee Shuhart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry E. Bailey, in 1979.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Barton United Methodist Church, where she was an honorary member of the Administrative Council.
She was a member of Barton Senior Citizens.
She is survived by three daughters, Betty B. Francis of College Park, Md., Kathleen B. Laughlin, with whom she resided, and Jean George of Barton; one son, Paul W. Bailey of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton. The Rev. John Park will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Moscow Mills, Md.
The family will receive friends at the chapel today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Debra A. Allen
WILLIAMSPORT - Debra A. Allen, 47, of 16922B Sterling Road, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 14, 1950, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of the late William and Felicia DeStefano Belfoure.
She and her husband owned and operated the A&A Village Mart in Maugansville until 1996. They previously owned and operated A&A Mart on the corner of Liberty Street and South Cannon Avenue. She also had worked at Sears for 10 years.
She was a member of Grace Brethren Church, Hagerstown.
She is survived by her husband, Millard W. "Sam" Allen; one daughter, Stephanie M. Allen of Williamsport; one son, Brian K. Allen of Smithsburg; three sisters, Josephine Pusso of Georgetown, Del., J. Theresa Burger of Clear Spring, and Rosemarie Fertenbaugh of Waynesboro, Pa.; two brothers, William B. Belfoure of Grand Cayman Island and Anthony L. Belfoure of Hagerstown; and one grandchild.
Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Grace United Methodist church, corner of First and Spruce streets, Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert Dell and Pastor Dean Pryor will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Visitation will be at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Betty L.V. Eykelbosch
Betty Lee Van Eykelbosch, 71, of 17543 Gay St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at her home.
Born Jan. 8, 1927, in Bridgeport, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William Keifer and Beatrice Viola Schrack Hull.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Alfred Van Eykelbosch, in 1973.
She was a 1945 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
She retired from the City of Hagerstown's accounting department.
She was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Williamsport.
She was a member of Lady Elks 378, Funkstown American Legion Post 211 Auxiliary and AARP.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Rowe of Hagerstown and Diane Parsons of Hedgesville, W.Va.; one sister, Beatrice Broadway of Williamsport; one brother, William K. Hull Jr. of Hagerstown; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Mark A. Sandell will officiate. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
There will be no viewing.
