Hazel A.D. Hanes

WILLIAMSPORT - Hazel A. Dubel Hanes, 81, a resident of Williamsport Nursing Home, and formerly of 615 N. Locust St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at the nursing home.

Born Nov. 17, 1916, in Augusta, Md., she was the daughter of the late Ray O. and Annabelle M. Arnold Dubel.

She spent her early life and attended school in Augusta and Weverton, Md.

She was a homemaker and also was employed for 13 years, along with her husband, by Victor Hosiery Co. in Hagerstown from 1943 to 1956.

She was a member of Hagerstown Bible Church, Hagerstown, and Mary Martha's Sunday School Class.

She is survived by her husband, Reynolds S. Hanes, whom she married on Dec. 21, 1935; one son, David W. Hanes of Hagerstown; and one sister, Ruth M. Wesley of New Bern, N.C.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Dubel.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at Hagerstown Bible Church, 203 Summit Ave., Hagerstown.

Arrangements are by Cumberland Valley Crematorium, Waynesboro, Pa.

James R. Overstreet

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. - James Robert "Bobby" Overstreet, 62, of 405 Ventura Ave., died Thursday, July 23, 1998, at his home.

Born July 28, 1935, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Mildred Stottlemyer Overstreet of Capitol Heights and formerly of Middletown, Md., and the late James Overstreet.

He was recently a cab driver in Washington, D.C. He was formerly employed as a metropolitan police officer.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by an aunt and several cousins.

There will be a private family visitation.

Graveside services will be today at 11 a.m. at Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown. The Rev. William M. Bucher will officiate.

Arrangements are by Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, Middletown.

Sharon L.E. Young

BOWIE, Md. - Sharon Lee Evans Young, 49, of 11230 Westport Drive, died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at her home.

Born April 19, 1949, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of Freddie Henderson Evans Lambert Adams of Germantown, Md., and the late Raymond D. Evans.

She was formerly employed as an accountant with an insurance company and was a horse trainer.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Rockville, Md.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her stepfather, Edgar C. Adams of Germantown and formerly of Middletown, Md.; one brother, Raymond D. Evans III of Poolesville, Md.; one niece and one nephew.

There will be no visitation.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 55 Adclare St., Rockville. The Rev. Robert Schmidt will officiate.

Memorial donations may be made to Prince Georges County Hospice, 96 Harry S. Truman Drive, Largo, Md. 20774.

Arrangements are by Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, Middletown.

Catherine A. Mowbray

Catherine Anna Mowbray, 86, of 516 Ridge Ave., Hagerstown, who died Saturday, July 25, 1998, is survived by a daughter, Mary R. Bradley of Falling Waters, W.Va.

Catherine B. Humphreys

WILLIAMSPORT - Catherine Boyle Humphreys, 85, of 16505 Virginia Ave., and formerly of Albany, N.Y., and St. Petersburg, Fla., who died Thursday, July 23, 1998, is survived by a sister, Margaret Olfky of Centerville, Ohio.

Mary E. Wade

Mary E. Wade, 80, of 427 Guilford Ave., Hagerstown, died Saturday, July 25, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born in Wilson, Washington County, she was the daughter of the late J. Frederick and Mary F. Needy Sowers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar F. "Doc" Wade, in 1975.

She and her husband owned and operated Doc Wade's Market on Salem Avenue for more than 20 years.

She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church for more than 60 years.

She is survived by two sons, Richard A. Wade of Stamford, Conn., and William F. Wade of Hagerstown; one sister, Catherine S. Jones of Hagerstown; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy L. Trumpower; and two brothers, Russell P. Sowers and Howard Sowers.

Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert S. Barton will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Western Pike.

Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service Tuesday.

Memorial donations may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, corner of Church and Winter streets, Hagerstown, Md. 21740; or Washington County Chapter of the American Heart Association, 322 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Debra A. Allen

WILLIAMSPORT - In lieu of flowers, memorial donations for Debra A. Allen, 47, of 16922B Sterling Road, who died Sunday, July 26, 1998, may be made to Debra Allen Memorial Fund, c/o Grace Brethren Church, 837 Spruce St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Toni M. Gonder

SHARPSBURG - Toni Marie Gonder, 5, of 6103 River Road, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at Washington County Hospital as the result of an automobile accident.

Born May 17, 1993, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of Judy Ann Garrett and Tony Paul William Gonder of Sharpsburg.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by one sister, Leah Ruth, at home; two brothers, Zachary and Joshua Keith, both at home; and paternal grandmother, Ramona Gonder of Waynesboro, Pa.

She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Walter and Ruth Garrett; and paternal grandfather, William Gonder.

Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Wilber L. Sites will officiate. Burial will be in Price's Church Cemetery, near Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Children's Miracle Network, 201 W. Reed Hall, Baltimore, Md. 21287.

Daniel R. Sprecher

Daniel Rodger Sprecher, 80, of 17907 W. Oak Ridge Drive, Hagerstown, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born April 17, 1918, in Tilghmanton, he was the son of the late Fred O. and Ada A. Shoop Sprecher.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene Davis Sprecher.

He retired from the Washington County Board of Education in 1980. He was previously employed by Bowman Warne Co.

He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army. He participated in the D-Day invasion and was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was a longtime member of Downsville Christian Church and St. Mark's Episcopal Church.

He was a member of Clear Spring American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Doris L. Sprecher; one daughter, Dr. Penny L. Sprecher Catherman of Chesterfield, Va.; one stepson, Charles Edward Rohrer of Williamsport; one brother, Dr. Fred O. Sprecher of Winchester, Va.; and four grandsons.

Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Charles W. Green will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Washington County SPCA, 13011 Maugans Ave., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Donald L. Taylor

Donald Leroy "Fuzz" Taylor, 52, of 729 George St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at his home.

Born Aug. 1, 1945, in Keedysville, he was the son of the late Garland Willard and Alice May Walker Taylor.

He had been employed by Washington County Board of Education.

He was a member of Greenbriar Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Renner Taylor; three daughters, Tawanda Taylor of Attleboro, Mass., Sherry Saunders and Tina Krugh, both of Hagerstown; three sons, Donald M. Taylor of Attleboro, Jesse L. Taylor and Donald "Fuzz" Taylor, both of Hagerstown; one sister, Beverly Chilcutt of St. Thomas, Pa.; one brother, Marvin W. Taylor of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Ray Taylor.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. David L. Coblentz will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Washington County Associated for Retarded Citizens, 820 Florida Ave., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Mae E. Whitesel

Mae E. Whitesel, 86, of 2042 Day Road, Hagerstown, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at Fahrney-Keedy Nursing Home, Boonsboro.

Born Jan. 15, 1912, in Winchester, Va., she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ethel E. Larrick Morris.

She and her husband opened Whitesel Music Co. on West Franklin Street in Hagerstown.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She was a member of AARP.

She is survived by her husband of more than 60 years, Victor E. Whitesel; five sisters, Frances Frost and Pat Cothron, both of Miami, Fla., Lee Porter of Atlanta, and Edna Norman and Virginia Todd, both of Fort Myers, Fla.; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. David M. Buchenroth will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to the Parent-Child Center, 115 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740; or to the charity of one's choice.
