Donald J. Shipe
FORRESTVILLE, Md. - Donald Joseph "Popeye" Shipe, 69, of Forrestville, and formerly of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, at Prince Georges Hospital Center in Cheverly, Md.
Born June 3, 1929, in Bolivar, W.Va., he was the son of the late Joseph Lawrence and Lydia Avis Shipe.
He was formerly employed by The Washington Post and Times Herald, and retired from National Auto Parts.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose, Elks Lodge and Fleet Club of Forrestville.
He is survived by his wife, Frances M. Shipe; two daughters, Lydia Shipe of Arlington, Va., and Mary Frances Shipe of Washington, D.C.; two sons, Russell Shipe and Joseph Shipe, both of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Russell Shipe of Charles Town, W.Va.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, June Daugherty and Wilma Mitchell; and one brother, George Shipe.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home in Harpers Ferry, W.Va. The Rev. Douglas Fraim will officiate. Burial will be in Harper Cemetery in Harpers Ferry.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today and Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Dorothy L. Breeden
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Dorothy L. Breeden, 77, of Rochester, and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, at her home.
Born Feb. 27, 1921, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Nellie Ritenour Dockeney.
Her husband, John William Breeden, preceded her in death.
She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Breeden and Martha "Kitty" Giordano, both of Rochester, and Dorothy Jean Goff of Martinsburg; one sister, Mable Springer of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; one brother, Norman Dockeney of Martinsburg; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Sis Pernell, Betty Springer, Sarah Mullin and Thelma Breeden; and two brothers, Thomas Dockeney and Luther Dockeney.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Harold G. Pryor
Harold G. Pryor, 85, of Jefferson Boulevard, Hagerstown, died Monday, Aug. 3, 1998, at Colton Villa Nursing Home.
Born April 5, 1913, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late James Walter and Olive Idella Wolfe Pryor.
He was a 1931 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
He was employed as a consumer credit officer at First National Bank of Maryland, retiring in 1973.
A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
He also was a member of Friendship Lodge 84, AF&AM; Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Hagerstown Forest 95; and American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Theresa E. Pryor; one daughter, Jean L. Minor of Hagerstown; one sister, Catherine O. Delauter of Hagerstown; two brothers, Morris W. Pryor and James R. Pryor, both of Hagerstown; and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Frances Pryor Mills; and two brothers, Earl H. Pryor and Lauren W. Pryor.
Services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. David M. Buchenroth will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where a memorial service will be conducted by Friendship Lodge 84 at 7 p.m.
Archie R. Moser
Archie Richard Moser, 73, of Hagerstown, died Monday, Aug. 3, 1998, at Colton Villa Nursing Center.
Born Dec. 22, 1924, in Beaver Creek, he was the son of the late Kieffer Martin Moser Sr. and Armatha Adeline Ford Moser.
He retired in 1987 from Fairchild Aircraft after 39 years of service.
He is survived by three daughters, Sharon Palmer, Linda Moser and Debra Thomas, all of Boonsboro; one son, Gary Moser of Boonsboro; two sisters, Janice R. Irving and Betty Jane Kendle, both of Boonsboro; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Kieffer M. Moser Jr.
Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. J. Mark Curran will officiate. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Charles E. Dayhoff Sr.
Charles Ellsworth Dayhoff Sr., 76, of Hagerstown, died Monday, Aug. 3, 1998, at his home.
Born Jan. 31, 1922, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Caleb Jacob and Carrie Ellen Garlock Dayhoff.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eunice Arleen Dayhoff, in 1970; and by his second wife, Alice Virginia Dayhoff, in 1996.
He was employed by Coca-Cola, retiring in 1984.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of North American Rod and Gun Club and American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42.
He is survived by one son, Charles E. Dayhoff Jr. of Falling Waters, W.Va.; two grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy Ellen Dayhoff; and two brothers, Fred Dayhoff and Clarence Dayhoff.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert V. Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Nellie M. Andrews
Nellie May Andrews, 95, of 1036 Brinker Drive, died Monday, Aug. 3, 1998, at Coffman Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born May 5, 1903, in Lydia, Md., she was the daughter of the late Alberta and Martha Ann Danner Stouffer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Robert Andrews Sr., in 1986.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Temple Builders Class and Golden Membership Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Virginia Benedict of Greencastle, Pa., and Aleda May Andrews of Hagerstown; one son, William I. Andrews of Hagerstown; one grandchild; four great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Earl Robert Andrews Jr.; five sisters; and five brothers.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert S. Barton and the Rev. Darryl Zoller will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

James H. Roberts
James Hoover Roberts, 69, of Hagerstown, died Monday, Aug. 3, 1998, at Colton Villa Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 29, 1928, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Chester and Agnes Miller Roberts.
He was a retired cook.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Korean War.
He is survived by one daughter, Becky Moore of Hagerstown; one sister, Kathryn Short of Hagerstown; one brother, Carl Roberts of Hagerstown; one grandson, one great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be today at 7:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.
Dorothy L. Hovermale
Dorothy Largent Hovermale, 91, of Stonecroft Apartments, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at Holly Place in Hagerstown.
Born Nov. 6, 1906, in Bloomery, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Samuel L. and Margaret "Maggie" Omps Largent.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry C. Hovermale, in 1956.
She retired from Hutzler Brothers, Baltimore.
She is survived by three daughters, Freda Meyerhoffer of Taneytown, Md., Marguerite Henn of Circleville, Ohio, and Jean Hettenhouser of Smithsburg; three sons, Harry "Sam" Hovermale of Martinsburg, W.Va., Lloyd E. Hovermale of Westminster, Md., and Thomas D. Hovermale of Frederick, Md.; two sisters, Naomi Heishman and Mary Place, both of Winchester, Va.; four brothers, Harold Largent and Paul Largent, both of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Archie Largent and Ralph Largent, both of Unger, W.Va.; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Phyllis Harvath; and one grandson, Robert Bergan.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Steve D. Crabtree will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Whitacre, Va.

M. Edith Frey
SMITHSBURG - M. Edith Frey, 97, of Smithsburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, at Fahrney-Keedy Home in Boonsboro.
Born in Greensburg, Md., on July 24, 1901, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Anna May Shriver Welty.
Her husband, Raymond R. Frey, died in 1986.
She was a member of Christ United Church of Christ, Cavetown.
She also was a member of Smithsburg Historical Society, and Hagerstown Charter 89, Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by one daughter, June F. Bachtell of Walkersville, Md.; one granddaughter, Karen B. Byrnes of Walkersville; one grandson, James E. Bachtell of Richmond, Va.; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday one hour prior to the service.
