Lydia J. Martin

Lydia Joy Martin, 10-month-old infant daughter of Lowell E. and Carol S. Martin Martin of 14331 Marsh Pike, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, in her home.

She was born Oct. 23, 1997.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by three sisters, Charlotte Ann Martin, Michelle Lorraine Martin and Barbara Mae Martin, all at home; maternal grandparents, Darrel R. and Orpha M. Martin of Hagerstown; paternal grandparents, Truman E. and Cora L. Martin of Hagerstown; maternal great-grandparents, Donald H. and Esther M. Martin of Hagerstown.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Roger L. Martin.

Services will be held today at 6 p.m. at Reiff Mennonite Church near Cearfoss. The local church ministry will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The viewing will be one hour prior to services at the church.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Arrangements are by Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home in Greencastle, Pa.

Virginia W. Hull

Virginia Woodrow Hull, 84, of 446 S. Edgewood Drive, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 27, 1914, in Clear Spring, she was the daughter of the late Harry S. and Martha Elizabeth Hege Shupp.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Hull, in 1974.

She was a teacher in Washington County elementary schools for more than 40 years before her retirement.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Funkstown.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda H. Gillet of Hagerstown; and one grandson, Anthony M. Gillet of Hagerstown.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Little Rose Hill Cemetery in Clear Spring. The Rev. Darrell L. Layman will officiate. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 24 E. Baltimore St., Funkstown.

There will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 148, Funkstown, Md. 21734.

Arrangements are by Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, Clear Spring.

Carson Cole

BOONSBORO - Carson Cole, 69, of 8842 Old National Pike, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 21, 1929, in Blackwater, Va., he was the son of the late Herbert and Dora Thomelson Cole.

He owned and operated Cole Drywall Co.

He was of the Methodist faith.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lorraine M. Ely Cole; one son, Timothy C. Cole of Sharpsburg; one sister, Eva Surber of Chilhowie, Va.; one brother, Gale O. Cole of Breezewood, Pa.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. The Rev. Allen K. Cameron will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open at 9 a.m.

John F. Fitz

MYERSVILLE, Md. - John F. Fitz, 70, of 2020 Canada Hill Road, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

Born April 19, 1928, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Alfred W. and Ethel Mae Cauffman Fitz.

He graduated from Eastern High School in Washington, D.C., in 1946.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he served in Guam during World War II. He then was employed by the Naval Ordinance Lab, Silver Spring, Md.

In 1950, he enlisted in the National Guard. His unit was activated in September 1952 during the Korean War, serving at Fort Custer, Mich., and Fort Belvoir, Va. Afterward, he returned to the Naval Ordinance Lab, where he participated in two underwater atomic bomb tests.

In 1958 he was employed as an engineer in Beltsville, Md., for Minneapolis Honeywell. From 1960 until his retirement in 1984, he worked as an electronics technician at the Sounding Rocket Division Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md.

He was a member of Frederick Amateur Radio Club, Atomic Veterans Association, and Dixon-Troxell American Legion Post 0211, Funkstown.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Kauffman Fitz, whom he married Jan. 6, 1950; one daughter, Deborah Maguire of Myersville; one son, John L. Fitz of Baltimore; one sister, Bette Slusher of Hagerstown; one brother, James C. Fitz of Waynesboro; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one son, James A. Fitz.

A private memorial service will be held at the graveside at Mount Zion Cemetery in Quincy, Pa. Pastor C. Albert Guyer will officiate.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

Memorial donations may be made to Fitz Memorial Fund, Rochester Institute of Technology, Office of Development, 116 Lomb Memorial Drive, Rochester, N.Y. 14623-5608.

Naomi R. Smith

Naomi Ruth Smith, 90, of 1443 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at Avalon Manor Health Care Center.

Born Jan. 3, 1908, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Albert and Margaret E. Pryor Shoop.

Her husband, Raymond George Smith, died in 1977.

She was a graduate of Towson State College.

She was employed by the Washington County Board of Education as a teacher at Winter Street School, and previously at Mount Lena and Big Pool.

She was a member of Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren.

She also was a member of Maryland Teachers Association, Towson State Alumni, and AARP.

She is survived by one son, Gary Lee Smith of Hagerstown; two grandchildren, Gregory Smith of Colorado and Chris Walston of Germantown, Md.; two nieces; and one great-niece.

Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Rachel Black will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown; and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Troy A. Parker

Troy Allen Parker, infant, of 141 High St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.

Born Aug. 6, 1998, in Baltimore, he was the son of Vanessa Leanne Canfield and Richard Allen Parker.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Kelsey Breanna Parker of Hagerstown; one brother, Richard Lee Parker of Hagerstown; maternal grandparents, Brenda Louise Canfield of Hagerstown, and Patrick Lynn Canfield of Butler, Pa.; paternal grandparents, Linda Lou Benner and Jerry F. Benner of Hagerstown, Mallory "Hoot" Gibson of Pensacola, Fla., and Claude Parker of Pensacola; and aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Travis Allen Parker on Aug. 7, 1998; and his maternal great-grandmother, Shirley Mae Bishop.

Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert Fitz will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made for Troy Allen Parker, care of Vanessa Canfield, 141 High St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Esther A. Geesey

ROCKVILLE, Md. - Esther A. Geesey, 93, a resident of the National Lutheran Home, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, at the home.

Born Aug. 4, 1905, in Spring Grove, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George B. and Anna B. Bringman Miller.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Geesey.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hagerstown and was an organist there.

She is survived by two sons, George E. Geesey of Chevy Chase, Md., and Roger Geesey of Vienna, Va.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one niece and one nephew.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at National Lutheran Home chapel, 9701 Veirs Drive, Rockville.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Visitation will be at National Lutheran Home today one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to National Lutheran Home, 9701 Veirs Drive, Rockville, Md. 20850.

Arrangements are by Hysong Co., Washington, D.C.

Menno A. Martin

The family of Menno A. Martin, 76, of 18519 Maugans Ave., Hagerstown, who died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, will receive friends at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Pa., today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.; and on Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m. at Hagerstown Mennonite Fellowship Church, 12403 Huyett Lane, Hagerstown.

Bryan B. Ogle

FREDERICK, Md. - Bryan Benjamin Ogle, 33, of 241 Wyngate Drive, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick.

Born Sept. 3, 1964, in Gettysburg, Pa., he was the son of Robert Benjamin Ogle of Thurmont, Md., and Jenny S. Late Ogle of Frederick.

He attended Catoctin High School.

He was employed as a truck driver for USA Waste.

He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Thurmont.

He rode his motorcycle and fished.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of three years, Shannon Dawn Cline Ogle; two daughters, Kyra Ogle and Arianna Ogle, both at home; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ogle of Rocky Ridge, Md.; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Howard and Jean Late.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Mount Bethel United Methodist Church, 14110 Stottlemyer Road, Foxville, Md. The Rev. William C. Kercheval will officiate. Burial will be in Garfield United Methodist Church Cemetery, Garfield, Md.

Friends may call today from 2 to 9 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Bryan Benjamin Ogle Memorial Fund, c/o Shannon Ogle, 241 Wyngate Drive, Frederick, Md. 21701. A memorial fund has been established at F&M Bank, Frederick to benefit his two daughters.
