Hester E. Dellinger

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Hester Elizabeth Dellinger, 86, of Martinsburg, and formerly of Bunker Hill, W.Va., died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at City Hospital.

Born Jan. 23, 1912, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William and Sadie Moreland Pearrell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, O. Oscar Dellinger, in 1992.

She owned and operated Dellinger's Confectionery in Martinsburg and was a seasonal employee at C.H. Musselman Co. Later, she was employed at Mary's Lunch on Winchester Avenue. She retired in 1985 from her restaurant at Bunker Hill Market.

She was a bowler.

She is survived by a daughter, Leatha Collins of Martinsburg; five grandchildren, Carol Mason, Janet Hines, Sharon Collins, Sherry Collins and Elaine Hoffman; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by six sisters, Hazel Wise, Lillian Sisk, Mary Ramey, Jane Robinson, Ruth Parkinson and an infant sister, Helen Pearrell; and three brothers, Harry, Ralph and Ben Pearrell.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. John E. Wright will officiate. Burial will be in Bunker Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

E. Jane Bowser

WILLIAMSPORT - In lieu of flowers, memorial donations for Emma Jane Bowser, 74, of 15 N. Conococheague St., who died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, may be made to Williamsport Ambulance Service, 30 W. Salisbury St., Williamsport, Md. 21795.

Robert H. Miles

COLUMBUS, Ga. - Robert Harding Miles, 77, of Columbus, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, at his home.

Born Nov. 21, 1920, in Clear Spring, he was the son of the late James Gardner and Evalyn Lucretia Swope Miles.

He was a tax consultant with H&R Block for 15 years. More recently, he was a self-employed tax consultant.

He retired from the U.S. Army in 1969 with more than 30 years of service. He served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He received a number of medals, including the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and the National Defense Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster.

He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Clear Spring.

He was a member of the Retired Officers' Association; and the U.S. Calvary Association.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Louise Katherine Hawley Miles; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Bell of Columbus; a son, Robert H. Miles II of Pearisburg, Va.; four sisters, Charlotte V. Sorge of Hagerstown, Virginia R. Seibert of Clear Spring, Madalyn E. Horst of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Martha L. Middlekauff of Hagerstown; two brothers, Kenneth S. Miles of Baltimore and John C. Miles of Clear Spring; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Harry G. Miles.

Military graveside services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Fort Benning, Ga. Pastor Gene Ritchie will officiate.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at McMullen Funeral Home, Columbus.

Suella F. Ranck

WILLIAMSPORT - Suella F. Ranck, 91, a resident of Homewood and formerly of Warfordsburg, Pa., died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 15, 1907, in Fulton County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late E. Ross and Elizabeth Fite.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Daniel Ranck, in 1979.

She was a nursing graduate of City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.

She retired as a registered nurse.

She was a member of OES 103.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. Robert G. Brennan Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rehobeth United Methodist Cemetery, near Big Cove Tannery, Pa.

Friends will be received today from 8 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Noah C. Harbert

Noah Charles Harbert, infant son of Justin Andrew and Susanne Jardinier Harbert, of 212 E. Irvin Ave., Hagerstown, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

He was born Aug. 27, 1998, in Hagerstown.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by paternal grandparents, D. Ray and Teresa M. Harbert of Hagerstown; maternal grandparents, John C. and Lucille H. Jardinier of Hagerstown; aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. James Proffitt will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Memorial donations may be made to Labor of Love, c/o Birthing Center, Washington County Hospital, 251 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

William L. Lonsway

WILLIAMSPORT - William Lawrence Lonsway, 96, of 16505 Virginia Ave., Cottage 52, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at Homewood Retirement Center, Williamsport.

Born Dec. 8, 1901, in Tiffin, Ohio, he was the son of the late William Leonard and Anna Bertha Lucius Lonsway.

He was a graduate of Tiffin Columbia High School. He attended Heidelberg College. He graduated from Ohio State University in Chemical Engineering in 1923.

He was employed as a sales representative in the chemical and industrial fields in the Washington, D.C., and Baltimore areas, retiring in 1972.

He was a life member of Episcopal Church.

He was a member of AF&AM; Scottish Rite and the Palestine Lodges and was a Shriner, Boumi Shrine Baltimore.

He is survived by his wife, Verna Mae Pope Lonsway, whom he married in 1925; two daughters, Ann L. Merson of Alexandria, Va., and Louise L. Wilson of Savannah, Ga.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Saturday at 7 p.m. at Homewood Retirement Center Chapel, Williamsport. The Rev. Victor Zuck will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 3551 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, Pa. 19101.

Arrangements are by Osborne Funeral Home, Williamsport.

Mary A. Smith Cline

Mary Alice Smith Cline, 93, formerly of 7902 Sharpsburg Pike, Boonsboro, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at Clearview Nursing Home, Hagerstown.

Born in Tommytown, Md., on Feb. 24, 1905, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Effie Virginia Ripple Marmaduke.

Her first husband, Paul Edgar Smith, died in 1947.

Her second husband, D. Fred Cline, died in 1976.

She had been employed by Fairchild Aircraft, Hagerstown.

She was a member of St. James Brethren Church, St. James.

She also was a member of Red Feather Council 59 Degree of Pocohontas in Williamsport, and Fairplay Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Kopp of Tilghmanton; one son, Raymond Smith of Waynesboro, Pa.; six stepdaughters, Waunita Martin of Hancock, Betty Kitchen and Valerie Malott, both of Williamsport, Dorothy Shinham of Sharpsburg, Shelby Stahl and Connie Martin, both of Hagerstown; six stepsons, Omer C. Cline of State Line, Pa., Thurman P. Cline of Sharpsburg, Lloyd M. Cline of Smithsburg, Ellis Cline and Elmer Ross Cline, both of Hagerstown, and Walter L. Cline of Funkstown; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; 36 stepgrandchildren; 51 stepgreat-grandchildren; and 13 stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Peggy Cline and Juanita Smith; one son, Robert Smith; one stepson, Edgar M. Cline; and two sisters, Leona Smith and Helena Alexander.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Albert L. Leaf Memorial Chapel of Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Brian Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m at the funeral home, which will be open after 9 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to St. James Brethren Church, 17718 Lappans Road, Williamsport, Md. 21795.

Margaret F. Smith

Margaret Frances Smith, 83, of 303 West Side Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 30, 1915, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Elva Binkley Smith.

She was employed by the Washington County Board of Education. She was a foreign language teacher at Boonsboro High School for 41 years.

She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma; and the Washington County and State Retired Teacher's Association.

She is survived by cousins.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Memorial donations may be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church, 108 E. Franklin St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

William C. Tasker

William C. Tasker, 64, of 1749 Edgewood Hill Circle, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998.

Bernard R. Grove Jr.

FREDERICK, Md. - Bernard Radenbaugh "Buck" Grove Jr., 75, of 540 Wilson Place, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at his home.

Born Sept. 27, 1922, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Bernard R. Grove Sr. and Anna Rebecca Lawson Grove

He was a 1942 graduate of Frederick High School.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the 49th Engineer Combat Battalion and participated in the invasion at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge.

He was employed at Fort Detrick in the Plant Disease Research Laboratory until his retirement in 1980, after 34 years of federal service.

He was an owner and operator of Grove's Greenhouse at Wilson and Homestead avenues in Frederick from 1952.

He was a member of Frederick Church of the Brethren, and a member of the Men's Bible Class of the Sunday school.

He was a member of Glen W. Eyler Post 282; Woodsboro American Legion; and BPOE 684, Frederick.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred S. Grove; a daughter, Judith Ann Grove of Frederick; two sons, Bernard L. "Chip" Grove III of Charles Town, W.Va., and Bernard E. Stitely of Frederick; six grandchildren; and cousins.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Frederick Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Lerry W. Fogle will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.
