Robert S. Hudson Jr.

Robert Stuart Hudson Jr., 40, of 27 Catawba Place, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at his home.

Born Nov. 15, 1957, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Robert Stuart Hudson Sr. and Mary Jane Newman Hudson of Huntingtown, Md.

He was a police dispatcher in Prince Georges County, Md., for 14 years.

He was a union steward and vice president of Police Civilian Employees Association.

He was a member of South High Band Boosters.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Ellen M. Hudson; three daughters, Melanie Hudson, Deanna Hudson and Kaitlyn Hudson, all at home; one son, Brian Hudson, at home; three sisters, Mary Zelonis of Lusby, Md., Robin Harrington and Dawn Hudson, both of Huntingtown; and one brother, Mark Hudson of Laurel, Md.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Evangel Baptist Church, 17926 Broadfording Road, Hagerstown. The Rev. Ernest Thompson and the Rev. Dale R. Carver will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Robert Stuart Hudson Jr. Memorial Fund, c/o Ellen M. Hudson, 27 Catawba Place, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Herman W. Blickenstaff

MYERSVILLE, Md. - Herman W. Blickenstaff, 70, of Myersville, died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Dec. 7, 1927, in Middlepoint, Md., he was the son of the late Harry W. and Olive E. Wolfe Blickenstaff.

He formerly was employed by Fairchild Aircraft, Hagerstown; and later as a carpenter.

A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army. He received the Korean Service Medal and the U.N. Service Medal.

He was a member of Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, Myersville.

He was a life member of South Mountain Rod and Gun Club, Smithsburg.

He is survived by one daughter, Tina L. Blickenstaff Flook of Myersville; his former wife, Ida Mae Bell Blickenstaff of Myersville; seven sisters, Elizabeth Kendall of Baltimore, Mary Wiles, Mae Wilson and Beulah Bell, all of Myersville, Irene Gouker of Harmony, Md., Florence Minnick of Middletown, Md., and Gladys Brown of Sabillasville, Md.; and two brothers, Kenneth Blickenstaff of Myersville and George Blickenstaff of Mapleville.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Floyd Delauter.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, Wolfsville Road, Myersville. The Rev. James Flora will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grossnickle Church of the Brethren Memorial Garden, P.O. Box 575, Myersville, Md. 21773.

Raymond D. Divelbiss Sr.

CLEAR SPRING - Raymond Donald Divelbiss Sr., 67, of 11844 Ashton Road, died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at his home.

Born Nov. 17, 1930, in St. Thomas, Pa., he was the son of the late Frank Lester and Beatrice D. Weller Divelbiss.

He was a retired farmer. A dairyman, he bred registered Holstein cattle. He held jousting tournaments at his farm.

He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church of Clear Spring.

He was a member of Washington County, Maryland and State Holstein Associations, Washington County Dairy Herd Improvement Association, Maryland and Western Maryland Jousting Clubs, Potomac Rodeo Club, National Dairy Shrine, Mercersburg Moose Lodge 1790 and National Rifle Association. He was a former member of Maryland Artificial Breeders and Atlantic Milk Producers.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lolita Reid Divelbiss; three sons, Raymond D. Divelbiss Jr., Douglas P. Divelbiss and Steven L. Divelbiss, all of Clear Spring; four sisters, Phyllis Fink of Cambridge City, Ind., Ruth McNairn of Hagerstown, Joyce Ernst of Mercersburg and Edna Rae Divelbiss of Clear Spring; a half sister, Margaret Walters of Annandale, Va.; a brother, Richard Divelbiss of Clear Spring; two half brothers, Elmer Divelbiss of Hagerstown and Frank Divelbiss of Chambersburg, Pa.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Higgins, Isabel Gress and Helen Pike; and two brothers, Grant and Walter Divelbiss.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Revs. Elaine Prince and Robert Timmons will officiate. Burial will be in Shanktown Cemetery, Big Pool.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Michael L. Evans

Michael Lee Evans, 16, of 224 N. Cleveland Ave., Hagerstown, died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born July 10, 1982, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Donna Jean Evans of Hagerstown.

He was an 11th-grader at South Hagerstown High School and was attending Career Studies Center for pre-engineering.

He played baseball at American Little League, and then with the Babe Ruth League in Smithsburg.

He was employed by McDonald's at Valley Plaza.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his stepfather, Richard Lee Harvey of Hagerstown; maternal grandmother, Pearl Marie Cosgrove of Hagerstown; maternal grandfather, Carl F. Evans Sr. of Currie, N.C.; paternal stepgrandmother, Edith Purcell of Oakland, Md.; paternal stepgrandfather, Brad Harvey of Oakland; aunts, uncles, 17 cousins and 12 second cousins.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Raymond H. Shriver will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

There will be no viewing.

Memorial donations may be made to his mother, Donna Evans, 224 N. Cleveland Ave., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Charles C. Mills

WILLIAMSPORT - Charles Clifton Mills, 80, of 16401 Spielman Road, died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at his home.

Born Sept. 14, 1918, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Charles Edward and Minnie Pauline Bridendolph Mills.

His wife, Clara Virginia Johnson Mills, died in 1949.

He was employed by Morgan Driveaway, retiring in 1986. He previously was employed with Westinghouse in Baltimore and Theibolt Aircraft in Martinsburg, W.Va. He also served in the CCC.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of St. Paul's Church in Clear Spring.

He also was a member of DAV.

He is survived by two sons, Clifton Carson Mills of Williamsport and Edward Keller Mills of Boonsboro; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Albert L. Leaf Memorial Chapel of Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Robert E. Timmons will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Church Cemetery, Clear Spring.

Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open after 9 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Williamsport Ambulance Service, 30 W. Salisbury St., Williamsport, Md. 21795.

Clara H. Bassett

WOLCOTT, N.Y. - Clara Harper Bassett, 84, of High Street, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at Strong Memorial Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late William Lawrence Harper and Clara Anna VanVleck.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Kenneth B. Bassett; two daughters, Diane Stottler Elder of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Kathleen Bassett Nied of Easton, Pa.; a son, Richard H. Stottler Jr. of Cocoa Beach; two sisters, Adella Harper Crombach of Wolcott and Anne Harper Powers of Cocoa Beach; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Wolcott Presbyterian Church, West Main Street, Wolcott. Burial will be in Butler Center Cemetery.

Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Colvin Robertson Norton Funeral Home, New Hartford Street, Wolcott.

Memorial donations may be made to Wolcott Presbyterian Church, West Main Street, Wolcott, N.Y. 14590; or Critical Care Unit at Strong Memorial Hospital, 601 Elmwood Ave., Rochester, N.Y. 14642.

Ernest D. Lizer Jr.

BOONSBORO - Ernest D. Lizer Jr., 78, of 7917 Sharpsburg Pike, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, at his home.

Born Aug. 23, 1920, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Ernest D. and Agnes P. Mongan Lizer Sr.

He had been employed at Letterkenny Army Depot, retiring after 25 years. Previously, he had worked at Fairchild Industries.

He is survived by a daughter, Cheryl D. Lizer; a son, David A. Lizer; and a sister, Violet Shipley, all of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Goldie Thompson, Edna Randall, Kathleen Lizer and Dorthea Lizer; and a brother, Wilbert Lizer.

Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Virginia Avenue Church of God, 17306 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. Shawn H. Bushman will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.

Alice F. Sensenbaugh

FREDERICK, Md. - Alice Fennelly Sensenbaugh, 77, of 990 Waterford Drive, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at Sunrise Retirement Center.

Born May 12, 1921, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Lillian Belt Fennelly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James A. Sensenbaugh, in 1988.

She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick.

She was a member of the auxiliary of Frederick Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by a daughter, Diane C. Witt of Frederick; a sister, Emily Campbell of White Marsh, Md.; three brothers, John Fennelly of Hope, Ind., Alfred Fennelly of Orlando, Fla., and Robert Fennelly of Welaka, Fla.; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown, Md. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

There will be no visitation.

Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 1011 E. Patrick St., Frederick, Md. 21701.

Robert F. Hoover

Robert Franklin Hoover, 95, formerly of 202 Rock Willow Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, at Ravenwood Nursing Home in Hagerstown.

Born March 27, 1903, in Shippensburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Benjamin and Clara Hoover.

His wife, Elizabeth Carolyn Hoover, died in 1996.

He retired from M.P. Moller Co. in Hagerstown.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Hagerstown.

He is survived by a sister, Mae Walters of Hagerstown; three granddaughters, Donna Ocker, Mia Jo Hoover and Jacqueline Shrader, all of Hagerstown; a grandson, Jack Shrader Jr. of Hagerstown; two great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Eleanor Shrader; three sons, Jack Hoover, and twins Robert and John Hoover; and sisters, Effie Craig and Annie Barnhart.

Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown. The Rev. Darryl Zoller will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, today from 7 to 9 p.m.
