Joe M. Charles

HOUSTON - Joe McKinsey Charles, 80, formerly of Catonsville, Md., died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, in Houston.

He was the son of the late Frederick L. and Mary McKinsey Charles.

He was a graduate of Clear Spring High School and attended Johns Hopkins University.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and was commissioned in 1945.

He was a Naval flight instructor until his release from active duty in 1958.

He retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve with the rank of lieutenant commander.

He was employed by Westinghouse Defense Center, retiring in 1982 after 25 years.

He was a member of Catonsville United Methodist Church.

He also was a member of American Legion and a past officer of Civil Air Patrol.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Drish Charles; a daughter, Leslie Ann McDonald of Houston; two sisters, Helen Ludwig of Hagerstown and Jean Swope of Clear Spring; and two grandsons.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernhard G. Charles and Norris M. Charles, both of Big Spring.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Catonsville United Methodist Church in Catonsville.

Burial will be Saturday at 3 p.m. in Little Rose Hill Cemetery, with military honors by Clear Spring American Legion Post 222.

Memorial donations may be made to ALS Association, 21021 Ventura Blvd., Suite 121, Woodland Hills, Calif. 91364.

Margaret E. Miller

FREDERICK, Md. - Margaret E. Miller, 87, of Frederick, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born July 5, 1911, in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late William Allen Miller and Addie Koehler Miller Plunkard.

She was a member of Centennial Memorial United Methodist Church in Frederick.

She volunteered for the Back Door Yard Sale, an outreach ministry of the church, and worked at church banquets.

She was a member of United Methodist Women's Group.

In 1996 she was named United Methodist Woman of the Year.

She is survived by a daughter, Martha Lee Shrader of Williamsport; two sons, Frank T. Miller Jr. and Paul Leslie Miller, both of Frederick; a sister, Betty Jane Crawford of Walkersville, Md.; a brother, William Allen Miller Jr. of Baltimore; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Adelia Whigington, and a brother, Pierce Miller.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Centennial Memorial United Methodist Church, 8 W. Second St., Frederick.

The Rev. George G. Earle will officiate.

There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Centennial Memorial United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick.

Effie R. Stouffer

WILLIAMSPORT - Effie Ruth Stouffer, 83, of Homewood Nursing Home, and formerly of 17703 Winterberry Road, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, at the nursing home.

Born Oct. 7, 1912, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Mary Martha Boppe Lewis.

Her husband, Carroll Jacob Stouffer, died in 1995.

She was a member of Grace Brethren Church and the Friendly Bible Class.

She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn S. Bealle of Silver Spring, Md., and Lorena Hiscott of Kent Island, Md.; a sister, Edna I. Martin of Williamsport; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.

Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

The Rev. Robert L. Dell will officiate.

Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Laura E. Wilhelm

LONACONING, Md. - Services for Laura Ellen Wilhelm, 84, of Lonaconing, who died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, 8 E. Main St., Lonaconing.

The Revs. Raymond Brown and Richard Mortimore will officiate.

Burial will be in United Church of Christ Cemetery in New Germany, Md.

Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Jacqueline L. Green

Jacqueline L. Green, 47, of Hagerstown, and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Feb. 25, 1951, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Richard L. and Leona Rector Paige.

She was a secretary at Strawberry Mall in Harrisburg, Pa., and formerly was a nursing assistant at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg.

She is survived by two daughters, Noreen J. Long and Angela N. Green, both of Hagerstown; three sons, Michael Rivera of New York, Carlos Rivera and Elijah Muhammad Ali Green, both of Martinsburg; 10 grandchildren; and a close friend, Noah L. Green Sr. of Martinsburg.

She was preceded in death by a son, Noah L. Green Jr.; two brothers, Gregory Rector and the Rev. Richard Paige; and an infant sister.

Services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.

The Rev. Janis A. Wright will officiate.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Petra Worship Center, 701 W. Burke St., Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Charles W. Hart Jr.

Charles William "Sonny" Hart Jr., 57, of 331 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, who died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1965.

James L. LeBrun
67, of Sykesville

James Leroy LeBrun, 67, of Sykesville, died Tuesday, May 17, 2000, at his home.

Born May 10, 1933, in Baltimore City, he was the husband of the late Delores L. LeBrun.

He had worked in various jobs throughout his life in mechanic work.

Surviving are children Rose Testerman of Rural Retreat, Va., Margaret Hazelgrove of Westminster, Linda Gamber of Taneytown, and James LeBrun of Florida; brother Robert LeBrun of Essex; and eight grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a granddaughter.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, with the Rev. Joseph Marshall as celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Randallstown.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Benjamin O. Mellor Jr.
79, of Sykesville

Benjamin O rville Mellor Jr., 79, of Sykesville, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at his residence.

Born May 19, 1920, in Oella, Baltimore County, he was the son of the late Benjamin Orville and Carrie M. Lively Mellor Sr. He was the husband of the late Naomi Louise George Mellor.

He served as Chief Petty Officer during World War II in the Navy, was Chief of the Commissary and was stationed aboard the U.S.S Nashville. He retired as a supervisor at B&O; Railroad, and after retirement, he drove for Carroll Transit System. He was a member of Carroll County Senior Citizens Pool Club (billiards). He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Howard County in Columbia.

Surviving are sons Ronald B. Mellor of Nashville, Tenn., and Garry L. Mellor of Sykesville; daughter Sharon L. Nelson of Sykesville; brother Paul R. Mellor of Pasadena; sister Charlotte Louise Leeson of Olustee, Okla.; and four grandchildren.

He was predeceased by sisters Marian R. Tittsworth and Carrie M. Garriss.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Slack Funeral Home, 3871 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, with the Rev. Michael O'Brien officiating. Interment will be in Good Shepherd Cemetery, Ellicott City.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

G. David Moser
75, of Owings Mills

Guy David Moser, 75, of Owings Mills, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at Future Care Cherrywood, Reisterstown, after a brief illness.

Born Feb. 8, 1925, in Owings Mills, he was the son of the late Guy E. and Florence Merryman Moser. He was the husband of Mary Brown Moser, his wife of 51 years.

He retired as a superintendent for the Baltimore County Highway Department in 1979 after 32 years of service.

He was a 50-year member of Carroll-Gills United Methodist Church in Owings Mills where he served as lay leader. He was lay delegate to the Methodist Conference and a Sunday school teacher. He was on the Board of Trustees and the Board of Treasury and for many years was superintendent of the Sunday school. He was a long-time member of the Fourth District Democratic Club and was an active worker at the Crisis Center in Reisterstown.

Surviving, in addition to his wife are numerous nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held, with the Rev. Jack H. Cassel of Carrolls-Gills Church officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Finksburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1850 York Road, Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093.

Noel R. Thomas
29, formerly of Westminster

Noel Robert Thomas, 29, of Okemah, Okla., formerly of Westminster, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at his home.

Born June 16, 1970, in Westminster, he was the son of John Robert Thomas and Sylvia Marie Sonntag Eddings.

He was a heat and air technician for Deaton's Electric. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Butner High School in 1983.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are stepfather Dana Eddings of Okemah, Okla.; brothers James McCartney of Edmond, Okla., Brian McCartney of Union Bridge, and Chris Allen of Durant, Okla.; sisters Pamela Dees of Shawnee, Okla., and Michelle Adair of San Jose, Calif.; stepbrother Dana Eddings Jr. of Yukon, Okla.; stepsister Linda Morgan of McAlester, Okla.; maternal grandparents Clarence and Verna Mae Sonntag of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and dear friend Lori Kramer of Okemah, Okla.

Graveside services were held Wednesday at Highland Cemetery with the Rev. Curtis Townley officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 550, Westminster, MD 21158.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Okemah, Okla.
