Smith, Donald Elmer

Mr. Donald Elmer Smith, 66, of Frederick died on Monday, July 23, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the most beloved husband of Elizabeth Smith.

Born on August 18, 1934, in New Haven Connecticut he was the son of the late Frederick H. and Sadie Klaneski Smith. He was a business consultant. Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as an ammo storage specialist. He taught map reading while serving in the U.S. Army where he received the National Defense Service Metal. Donald was a member of the F.S.K American Legion Post 11, in Frederick. He was also a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Frederick

Mr. Smith was an avid Civil War historian and will be remembered for his many tales, expertise and love of Civil War History. He assembled a personal collection of maps and Civil War history research and was in the process of developing a pictorial Civil War history book to donate to the community of Frederick. Don enjoyed numerous volunteer activities in the community and was a lifetime member of the National Alliance of Business. His family and friends will also remember Don's love of his Maine Coon cat, Precious and his Schnauzer companion, Sammy. They brought much joy to his life.

Surviving in addition to his wife are 5 children; Michele Lynne Martineau and husband Richard of Slattington, PA, Jennifer Anne Campbell and husband Jeffrey of Frederick, Jackqueline Smith-Ugarte, Edward Smith and Steven Smith and one grandson, Mitchell Smith all of Connecticut; a brother, Vernon Smith of Connecticut; his mother-in-law, Bertha Rozman of Pittsburgh, PA; two sister-in-laws, Lillian McHugh and husband Donald and Joanne Rozman, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick Smith. He was also looking forward to the birth of his second grandchild, due July 26. For all who ever met Donald or knew him for the gentle and kind person he was, he will be deeply missed

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Thursday, July 26, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM on Friday, July 27, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 116 E. Church Street, Frederick with Rev. Wayne Funk as Celebrant. A Christian Wake Service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday evening beginning at 8:30 PM.

Interment will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery, Frederick with the following military honors being provided: pallbearers provided by 1110th Signal Battalion out of Ft. Detrick; graveside honors by the Maryland National Guard out of the 5th Regiment Armory, Baltimore; buglar, member of F.S.K. American Legion, Post 11.

Leleux, Dianna Marnette

Mrs. Dianna Marnette Leleux, 56, of Spotsylvaina, Virginia died on Friday, July 27, at her residence.

Born on January 17, 1945, in Bluefield, West Virginia she was the daughter of Alice Shirley Kidd Settle of Mt. Airy and of the late Ralph George Scott. Mrs. Leleux was a homemaker and enjoyed collecting baskets.

Surviving in addition to her mother and her husband, Donald L. Settle of Mt. Airy are two children; Michael Leleux and wife Milee of Hedgesville, WV, and Kimberly Leleux of Winston-Salem, NC; three grandchildren, Bobby Leleux, Danielle Leleux and Jordan Pierce; two step-grandchildren, Andrew Taylor and Kalie Taylor; two brothers, Donald L. Settle, Jr. and wife Sue of Hedgesville, WV and John L. Settle and wife Sue of Westminster; and a sister, Alice Settle-Raskin and husband Larry of Woodbine.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM on Monday, July 30, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 31, beginning at 10:30 AM. The Rev. Robert Chance of Aspen Hill Christian Church will officiate Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 839 Quince Orchard Blvd., Suite E, Gaithersburg, MD 20878 or to the American Lung Association, 14435 Cherry Lane Court, Suite 310, Laurel, MD 20707.

Bonebrake, Edith cramer

Mrs. Edith Cramer "Tooti" Bonebrake, 53, of Mt. Airy died on Monday, July 30, at her residence. She was the wife of G. James Bonebrake, her husband of 26 years.

Born on January 7, 1948, in Takoma Park, Maryland she was the daughter of Eleanor Davis Cramer of Silver Spring and the late Milton A. Cramer. Mrs. Bonebrake was an instructional aide with Montgomery County Public Schools for 14 years working at John T. Baker Middle School in Damascus.

Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are 3 sons; Douglas Wayne Johnson of Charlotte, NC, Ashley Gordon Bonebrake and wife Andrea of Germantown and James Jacob Bonebrake of Mt. Airy; 4 brothers and sisters; Mac Cramer of Silver Spring, Michael Cramer and wife Mary of Jefferson, Martha Manhollan and husband Ron of Mt. Airy and Eleanor Gore and husband Dick of Wintergreen, VA.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 3, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1393 Progress Way, Suite 908, Eldersburg, MD 21784.

Inman, Dr. Byron Wallace

Dr. Byron W. Inman, 87, of Baltimore died on Friday, July 27, at Homewood at Crumland Farms, Frederick. He was the husband of the late Dorothea I. Wellschlager Inman who died in 1980.

Born on May 11, 1914, in Mt. Airy, NC he was the son the late Byron H. and Stella Mae Worrell Inman. Mr. Inman was a dentist who practiced in the Baltimore area and was a member of the Maryland State Dental Association. He enjoyed playing golf, collected Civil War items and he was an avid antique tool collector belonging to Patina Tool Collector's Club. Dr. Inman served as a Captain in the U.S. Army during WWII.

Surviving are four children; Lois Inman Engle of Berkley, CA, Kathy Inman Maxwell and husband James of Clarksburg, Byron Wallace Inman, Jr. of Butler and Bonnie Inamn Collins of Parkton ; five grandchildren; Diana Elise Engle, Alison Leigh Maxwell, Melissa Gray Maxwell, Stella Margaret Collins and Rex Henry Collins; a brother, Grayson Inman and a sister Elaine Inman Bradner.

Graveside services and interment will be private.

Ashe, Susan G.

Mrs. Susan Geist Ashe, 43, of Walkersville died on Friday, July 27, at her residence. She was the wife of Dr. Gene F. Ashe, her husband of 20 years.

Born on September 29, 1957, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of John and Carole Myers Geist of Baltimore. Mrs. Ashe was a homemaker but had previously worked as a teacher of the deaf. She volunteered at Glade Elementary School and for Health Care For The Homeless. Mrs. Ashe was a member of the Walkersville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed quilting.

Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are two daughters; Brittany K. Ashe and Julia N. Ashe both of Walkersville.

Friends may call from 7-9 PM on Tuesday, July 31, and from 12-9 PM on Wednesday, August 1, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Avenue, Walkersville where the family will receive friends from 7-9 PM on Tuesday and from 6-9 PM on Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at1 PM on Thursday, August 2, at the Walkersville United Methodist Church, 22 Main Street, Walkersville with Rev. Albert K. Lane, III and Rev. Jennifer Smith officiating.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Deaf Access Services.

Arnold, Dorothy Cavenee

Mrs. Dorothy Cavenee Arnold, 78, of Frederick died on Friday, July 27, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Aubrey Arnold who died in 1997.

Born on October 24, 1922, in Frederick she was the daughter of the late George W. and Charlotte Smith Trout. Mrs. Arnold was a school teacher for the Frederick County Public Schools, retiring in 1980 after 30 years of service. She then continued to teach part time at both the Banner School and at Hood College. She was a past president of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. Mrs. Arnold was a life long member of the First Baptist Church of Frederick and was the 1st female Deacon ever elected in that church. She loved to travel and was an avid bridge player.

Surviving are two sons; Kim L. Cavenee and wife Linda of Middletown and George C. Cavenee and wife Nancy of Thurmont; five grandchildren, Shawn Cavenee, Kristi Buppert, Joseph Cavenee, Michael Cavenee and Lee Hebb; five great grandchildren; and a special niece, Linda Sue McCleary. Mrs. Arnold was preceded in death by a brother, George W. Trout, Jr. and a sister, Anna Mary Trout.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 PM on Tuesday, July 31, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, August 1, at First Baptist Church of Frederick, 217 Dill Avenue with the Rev. Burnis D. Barrett officiating.

Interment will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Daybreak Adult Day Care Center, 7819 Rocky Spring Road, Frederick, MD 21702.

Wheatley, Mildred T.

Mildred T. Wheatley of Federalsburg died at Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center in Denton, MD on Saturday, July 28, 2001 at the age of 79.

She was born on August 12, 1921 at American Corner in Caroline County the daughter of the late Francis H. and Mary R. Fishell Trice. Her husband, Nathaniel J. Wheatley preceded her in death.

She was a graduate of Federalsburg High School's Class of 1938. During her life she worked at Excelsior Pearl Works and E.I Dupont, Co. and she and her husband operated Wheatleys Grocery on East Central Avenue in Federalsburg for many years. After retiring from that she worked at the Curtis Andrew sale barn at American Corner for many years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxillary of the Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company for many years and was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Federalsburg.

She is survived by a daughter, Wanda F. Lloyd of Federalsburg and a son, Norris L. Craft, Sr. of Preston and five grandchildren, Nicole L. Geiger, Melanie L. Thomas, Chad R. Craft, Chip L. Craft and Chet H. Craft and four great-grandchildren, Garret L. Thomas, Mackenzie R. Thomas, Olivia C. Geiger and Andrew J. Geiger and many nieces and nephews, and a lifelong friend, Henry Porter, Sr. of Federalsburg. Two brothers, Irving Trice and Leon Trice and two sisters, Ruth Merrick and Viola Coughenour preceded her in death.

Funeral services for her will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2001 at Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg with the Rev. Glen Lyburn and the Rev. Dan Walker, officiating. Interment will follow in Hill Crest cemetery in Federalsburg. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m..

The family has suggested that donations be made in her memory to the Ladies Auxillary of Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company P.O.B. 99 Federalsburg, MD 21632.

Goodman, Maxine M.

Maxine Bertrice Goodman, 87, of Joppatowne, MD, died Wednesday July 25, 2001 at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center in Rising Sun, MD. She was born in Sparta NC and moved to Dublin, Maryland at the age of 4. She was the daughter of Allan “Bud” and Ida (Warden) Moxley.

She is survived by 2 sisters, Hazel Burnett of Kerrville, TX and Thelma Cissel of Phoenix, AZ; 2 daughters, Elisabeth Davis of Largo, FL and Ruth Anne Evans of Joppatowne, MD; 2 sons, John of Bel Air, MD and Richard of Rising Sun; 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Goodman was an elementary school teacher in Cecil and Harford Counties for 20 years and completed her career working in Social Services in Harford County where she first worked in foster care and later in day care licensing.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at R. T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD from 2 – 3 p.m. on Saturday July 28th immediately followed by a memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Calvert Manor Resident Council Scholarship Fund c/o R. T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, PO Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.

Baker, Elizabeth M.

Elizabeth M. Baker, 89, of Elkton, MD, died Thursday August 2, 2001 at Union Hospital in Elkton.

Mrs. Baker was a past president and life member of the Chesapeake City V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary; a member of the American Legion Post 15 in Elkton and a member of Elkton United Methodist Church. She was an avid bingo player.

She is survived by a son, Thomas I. Baker, Jr. and wife Patricia of Chestertown, MD; 2 daughters, Barbara Clugston and husband, S. Lee of Elkton and Elizabeth (Betty) Greer of Creston, NC; 3 brothers, James Taylor Moore, Charles Frank Moore and Thomas S. Moore, all of New Castle, DE; a sister, Louise Burnett of Wappingers Falls, NY; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas I. Baker, Sr., who passed away in 1975; a granddaughter, Catherine J. Clugston and a devoted friend Herbert Dixson.

Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday Aug. 4, 2001 at R. T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 318 George Street, Chesapeake City, MD where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be in Bethel cemetery in Chesapeake City.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Northern Chesapeake Hospice Foundation c/o R. T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, PO Box 27, Chesapeake City, MD 21915.
