Shanes, Sharon

Sharon Shanes, 63 of Hurlock, died July 27, 2001 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. Born in Dayton, Ohio, she was the daughter of Myrtle Moore of Dayton and the late Edgar Moore. Her husband, Harry Shanes, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Shanes was a member of AARP.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Swain of Hurlock, a son, David Shanes of San Diego,; four grandchildren,; five sisters, Donna Needles, Wanda Winters, Patti Allen and Jo Pridemore all of Ohio and Jeanie Anderson of California; two brothers, Larry Moore of Ohio and Steve Moore of New Mexico and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, July 31, 2001 at 2:00 PM in Beth Irsrael cemetery in Salisbury. Rabbi Elson officiated.

Contributions may be made to American Lung Association, 209 E. Market Street, Salisbury, MD 21801.

Jones, Katherine Green

Katherine Green Jones, 94 of Snow Hill died Friday, July 27, 2001 at Snow Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Towson, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Clara Ewing Green.

She was a first grade school teacher in Baltimore County. Upon her retirement, she moved from Baltimore to Chincoteague. She was a member of the Chincoteague Kiwanas and the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

She is survived by a stepson, Vernon C. Jones and four step-grandchildren.

After cremation, no formal services have been scheduled.

Hayman, Terry Lee

Terry Lee Hayman of Federalsburg died Wednesday, September 5, 2001 at Easton Memorial Hospital. She was 53.

She was born on July 5, 1948, the daughter of the Bonnie June Smith Saunders of Federalsburg, and the late Raymond Levi Saunders

She graduated from Colonel Richardson High School, class of 1966. She was a homemaker.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by three daughters: Tammy Coulbourne and her husband, Kevin of Federalsburg, Crystal Thawley and her husband Kevin of Seaford, DE, and Stacy Hayman of Federalsburg, two granddaughters; Brooke LeGates Coulbourne and Alyssa Hope Thawley, two sisters, Cindy L. Saunders of Federalsburg, and Patty L. Woodward of Preston, a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hayman and a brother-in-law, Raymond Hayman both of Greensboro.

Funeral services for her will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. in the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, 216 North Main Street, Federalsburg. Reverend Peter Smith will officiate. Friends may call the funeral home one-hour prior to the service. Interment will be private, and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Caroline County Unit of the American Cancer Society, Post Office Box 505, Denton, Maryland 21629.

Schmick, William G.

William G. Schmick, formerly of Federalsburg, MD died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001 at the Talbot Hospice House in Easton, MD.

He was born July 21, 1918 in Vienna, MD, the son of the late Edward A. and Clara Alvina Frase Schmick. His wife, Mary Elizabeth Handy Schmick, preceded him in death on June 4, 1992.

He was a graduate of Federalsburg High School Class of 1939. He received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Johns Hopkins university in 1939. He completed ROTC while at Hopkins. He was a WW II Army Air Force veteran during from 1941 until 1945 and was stationed in Australia and New Guinea. During his service in Australia he led a contingent of 12 men into the Australian outback to repair a crashed B-17 bomber and built an airstrip so that it could be flown out. He was a Captain of supply at the time of his discharge. He was a former Post Commander of the V.F.W. #5246 in Federalsburg. He was hired by the E.I. DuPont Nylon Plant in Seaford, DE where he was a supervisor in Design Engineering when he retired after 40 years of employment. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Preston, MD where he served as Congregational President, Board of Elders, Adult Sunday School Teacher,Sunday School Superintendant, Chaired Consitution Committee, chaired Committee on church history and was Chairman of the Education Committee. Gardening and woodworking were his favorite pastimes.

He is survived by a son, David H. Schmick and his wife, Harriette, of Salisbury, MD, a daughter, Christine Schmick Campbell and her husband, Donald, of Ellicott City, MD; three grandchildren; DeAnna Leikach, of Reisterstown, MD and Alexei and Luke Campbell of Ellicott City, MD; two great-grandchildren, Eric and Marc Leikach of Reisterstown; a sister, Evelyn Eberhand of Easton, MD, and many nieces and nephews. Three sisters, Marie Downes, Hilda Smith, and Irene Jesswein, and two brothers, Carl Schmick and Robert Lee Schmick, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Preston with the Rev. Neil Andersen officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel cemetery, near Federalsburg, MD. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Immanuel Lutheran Church , PO Box 39, Preston, MD 21655 or to the American Cancer Society Caroline County Unit, PO Box 505, Denton, MD 21629. Arrangements made by Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg.

Kirwan, Agnes A.

Agnes A. Kirwan, 94, of Cambridge, passed away at the Chesapeake Woods Center on Saturday evening, September 1, 2001. She was the wife of the late Ormond F. “Dick” Kirwan.

She was born in Fishing Creek on January 16, 1907, the daughter of the late Benjamin D. and Susan Simmons Aaron. She attended public schools at Fishing Creek and on December 16, 1925 was married to Mr. Kirwan. For eight years the Kirwans resided in Wilmington, Delaware, where she was employed at the Delaware State Hospital. For most of her life she lived in Cambridge and for many years Mrs. Kirwan was employed by Rob Roy until retirement at the age of 60. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Women of the Moose, and the Dorchester County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth K. Webster, three grandsons and their wives, Samuel L. and J. Victoria Webster, Jr. of Easton, Richard O. and Jeri L. Webster of Cambridge and Daniel E. and Martha E. Webster, also of Cambridge, six great-grandchildren, Samuel L. Webster, III, Noah A. Webster, Mary Beth Webster, James M. Webster, Rachel A. Webster, and Lauren E. Webster. And many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ormond F. Kirwan, two sisters, Madeline Parker and Audrey Elzey, and two brothers, Benjamin Aaron and Charles Aaron.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Thomas Funeral Home on Friday afternoon, September 7th at 3 o’clock by her grandson, Pastor Daniel H. Webster. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday an hour before the service. Burial will take place in Dorchester Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race St., Cambridge MD 21613.

Benton, Sierra Janae

Miss Sierra Janae Benton, 5 months of Emmitsburg died on Friday, August 24, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Born on March 17, 2001, in Rockville, she was the daughter of Sirreginald and Joy Reeves Benton.

Surviving in addition to her parents are a brother, Joshua T. Reeves; paternal grandparents, Reginald Grant of Suitland, MD and Wilhemina Benton of Atlanta, Ga; maternal grandparents, Paul and Robbie Freeman Raynes of Mt. Airy; an uncle Lemuel V. Benton, Alexandria, VA and a aunt, Heidi E. Raynes of Mt. Airy.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 29, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick with Pastor Mike Albro, chaplain of the Frederick Rescue Mission officiating.

Interment will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Frederick Rescue Mission, 419 W. South Street, Frederick, MD 21701.

Shockley, Louise Rebecca

Salisbury-Louise Rebecca Shockley, 60, of Salisbury, died Tuesday, February 27, 2001 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

Born on September 11,1940 in Preston, MD she was the daughter of the late Louise Lord McGrath and Walter William Schevel.

She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, James D. Shockley, seven sons; Ronald W. Covey and his wife Diane of Valdesta, FL, James H. Shockley of Salisbury, David Shockley and his wife Rosemary of Salisbury, Michael E. Shockley and his wife Theresa of Fruitland, Richard A. Shockley and his wife Jacqueline of Quantico, Gregory T. Shockley and his wife Mari of Salisbury, and Russell W. Shockley and his wife Denise of Mardela Springs, eight grandchildren;Christopher D., Jamie D., Katie Marie, and Sarah E. Shockley all of Salisbury, Jenny Lynne and Ryan Lee Shockley both of Mardela Springs, Rebecca E. Shockley of Fruitland and William Charles Covey of Valdesta, FL, two brothers; George Schevel of Salisbury and Jack Schevel of Quantico, four sisters; Barbara Cropper of Delmar, MD, Margaret Ann Baker of Pittsville, Betty Jean Robinson of Mardela Springs, and Katherine J. Long of Marion Station, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter Rebecca L. Shockley and a brother William Schevel.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 1, 2001 at 2:00 PM at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main St. in Salisbury where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Major John M. Tracey will officiate. Interment will follow at Springhill Memory Gardens near Hebron.

Green, James J.

James J. Green, 57, Stoll Place, Bailtmore, MD passed away Wednesday August 22, 2001 at the VA Center in Bailt. MD

He was born on July 11, 1944 in Dorchester, MA to Stephen and Grace (Thompson) Green.

He was a pipe fitter with the Walter Baker Co. in Dorchester, MA then coming to Dover in 1964 with General Foods. He was a US service veteran of Vietnam Era. He enjoyed traveling in the mountians. He is preceed in death by his Father Stephen H. Green

He is survived by his Mother, Grace Green of Dover, DE. Son, Jay Green of Wilmington, DE. Daughter, Michelle Green of Landenburg, PA. Sister, Kathy Polly of Dover, DE. Brother, Stephen J. Green of Bridgewater, MA.

A Remembrance Services and burial will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery Georgetown, DE on Tuesday 08/28/2001at 01:00 PM.

Friends may call Monday night 08/27/2001 07:00 PM to 09:00 at the Trader Funeral Home in Dover.

Jordan, Tyler Lee

Tyler Lee Jordan, premature son of Rebecca L. & Andrew W. Jordan of Rising Sun, MD, passed away August 21, 2001.

Tyler is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Rita & Walter Funk of Rising Sun and paternal grandparents, Sharon & James Jordan of Port Deposit, MD.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday August 24, 2001 at Conowingo Baptist cemetery, Conowingo, MD.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tyler Jordan Memorial Fund c/o National Bank of Rising Sun, PO Box 370, Rising Sun, MD 21911.

Kiefler Sr., Norman Albert

Norman Albert Kiefler, Sr., 77, of Princess Anne, died Tuesday, August 21, 2001 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, he was the son of the late, Albert John and Kathryn Emde Kiefler.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor P. Kiefler of Princess Anne; a son and daughter-in-law, Norman A. and Gina Kiefler Jr. of Janesville, WI; two step-children and their spouses: Victoria and Jim Bollinger of Long Branch, NJ and William and Marla Anastasia of Atlantic Highlands, NJ; a step-son-in-law and his wife, Jeffrey & Carol Sutphin of Virginia; nine grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date at the convenience of the family.
