Wilson, June Faye

Laurel: June Faye Wilson, 58, of Laurel died on Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Salisbury on January 18, 1943, she was the daughter of William Henry Brown, Sr. of Salisbury and the late Helen Margaret Slatcher Brown. Her husband Robert L. Wilson who died in 1998 preceded her in death.

Mrs. Wilson attended Mardela High School. She was formerly employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant with Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford retiring in 1995 after 25 years of service.

In addition to her father, June is survived by a brother and sister in law; William H. Brown, Jr. and Joan R.Brown of Hebron, a sister and brother in law; Linda D. and J. Craig Smith, Sr. of Salisbury, a niece; Christine M. Brown of Hebron, two nephews; J. Craig Smith, Jr., and J. Patrick Smith both of Salisbury, a great niece; Jocelyn Rae Smith and a great nephew; James Riley Smith, and many other family members and close friends.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 A.M. at the Bounds Funeral Home on E. Main St. in Salisbury where friends and family may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Joel K. Beiler will officiate. Interment will follow in Springhill Memory Gardens near Hebron. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of June to the American Diabetes Association, Diabetes Research, 100 W. 10th St., Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.

Adkins, Clifton Thomas

Salisbury: Clifton Thomas Adkins, 81, of Salisbury died on Thursday August 9, 2001 at Waterview Health Care Center in Salisbury. Born in Salisbury on June 1, 1920 he was the son of the late Grover C. Adkins and Clara O. Hearn Adkins. He was preceded in death by his first wife Margie Lee Adkins who died in 1971 and his second wife Mary Rayne Adkins who died in 1998.

Mr. Adkins was a lifelong farmer. He loved the land and being outdoors. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a member of the Wicomico County Farm Bureau.

Mr. Adkins is survived by five children, David T. Adkins and his wife Betty of Woodbridge, VA, Peggy L. Hastings and her husband Jerry of Laurel, DE, Kenny A. Adkins of Delmar, Philip W. Adkins and his wife Bonnie of Salisbury, and Dennis D. Adkins and his wife Mary of Salisbury, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a niece, Linda M. King of Delmar, and a nephew, Edwin G. King of Delmar. A sister C. Evelyn Adkins King who died in 1999 preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held on Monday at 2:00 P.M. at the Bounds Funeral Home on E. Main St. in Salisbury where friends and family may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Barry N. Devine will officiate. Interment will follow in Parsons cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Adkins to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803.

Gravenor, Vernon Thomas`

Vernon Thomas Gravenor, 42 of Parsonsburg, died Wednesday, September 12, 2001 in Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury from complications due to a moped accident.

Born in Salisbury, he was the son of Calvin Linwood and Dorothy Yvonne Gravenor of Parsonsburg.

Mr. Gravenor was a member of Salisbury Baptist Temple. He was very enthusiastic in helping the fire department raise funds.

In addition to his parents he is survived by eight brothers and sisters: Joyce Marvel of Wilmington, DE, Doris Wilkins of Berlin, Walter Layfield Jr of Pittsville, Betty Jane Scarborough of Snow Hill, Richard Layfield of Parsonsburg, Joe Gravenor of Snow Hill, Charles Gravenor of Salisbury, and Wayne Gravenor of Laurel; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 15, 2001 at 2 PM at Salisbury Baptist Temple in Salisbury. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2 PM at the church. The Rev. Oren Perdue and the Rev. Paul Hall will officiate. Interment will be in Parsonsburg cemetery in Parsonsburg, MD.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Salisbury Baptist Temple, Building Fund, 6413 Hobbs Rd., Salisbury, MD 21804.

Arrangements are being handled by Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Rd., Salisbury, MD 21804.

Tingle, John H.

John H. Tingle, 55, of Salisbury, died Wednesday, September 5, 2001 at his home. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of Howard and Ann Penuel Tingle of Salisbury.

Mr. Tingle was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving from 1962 to 1968. He worked for 27 years with Norfolk-Southern Railroad as a qualified passenger and freight conductor. He was an avid billiards player and an avid quarter horse enthusiast.

In addition to his parents he is survived by a daughter, Mindie Tingle Malkus of Cambridge; a son, Aaron C. Tingle of Salisbury; two sisters: JoAnne Tingle of Washington, DC and Melanie Tingle Maloney of Salisbury; a brother, Jay Tingle of Fairfax, VA; three grandchildren; and three nieces and four nephews.

A funeral service will be held Monday, September 10, 2001 at 11 AM at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Robert W. Miller will officiate. Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans cemetery near Hurlock, MD.

Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of the Eastern Shore, 212 West Main Street, Suite 202-C, Salisbury, MD 21801-9933.

Holmes, Anna Marie

Anna Marie Holmes, 41, of Salisbury, died Wednesday, September 5, 2001 at her home. Born in Salisbury she was the daughter of Lyndon Lee Pusey Jr. and Betty Maddox Pusey of Eden.

Mrs. Homes worked at Blind Industries for 13 years as a seamstress until she became unable due to sickness eight years ago.

In addition to her parents she is survived by her husband, Randy L. Holmes of Salisbury; a sister, Janet Louise Cothran of Pensacola, FA; one brother: Bruce W. Pusey Sr., of Laurel DE; a step-daughter, Brandi Holmes of Queen Anne, Co., MD; grandmother, Hazel G. Pusey of Eden; two aunts, Pat Pusey of Eden, MD and Alleen Smith of Newark, DE; two nieces; one great-niece and one great-nephew. She was preceded in death by a brother Lyndon Lee Pusey III who died August 28, 1999.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 9 2001 at 1:30 PM at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. Calling hours will be from 1 to 1:30 P.M. The Rev. Jim Larmore will officiate.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the American Diabetes Foundation, 114 Baptist St., Salisbury, MD 21801.

Blanchfield, Elsie Alberta

Elsie Alberta Blanchfield of Federalsburg died at Caroline Nursing Home in Denton, Maryland on Monday, February 5, 2001. She was 80.

She was born on July 14, 1920 in Cecil County, MD the daughter of the late James and Mary Emma Craig Loller. Her husband of 57 years, Hughey Howard Blanchfield, Sr. preceded her in death on January 13, 1994.

During her life she worked as a cook in restaurants and was primarily a homemaker. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Federalsburg and its Philathea Circle.

She is survived by five sons, Howard Hughey Blanchfield, Jr. of Notingham, PA, Thomas Allen Blanchfield and Michael Paul Blanchfield, both of Preston, James Daniel Blanchfield of Charlottesville, VA and William Arthur Blanchfield of Federalsburg and four daughters, Henrietta Knotts of Delmar, MD, Ruby Ann Rajchel of Crumpton, MD, Shirley Mae Murray of Federalsburg and Patricia Ann Lewis of Cambridge.

She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson and a brother, Crawford Loller of Elkton, MD and many nieces and nephews.

Four sisters, Elizabeth Alderson, Catherine Benson, Emily Biggs and Eleanor Husfelt and four brothers, Elwood Loller, Denny Loller, Richard Loller and Charles Loller and two granddaughters, Bonnie Blanchfield and Tammy Jeanette Dickerson preceded her in death.

Funeral services for her will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, 2001 at Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg, MD with the Rev. David Dunn, Rev. Glen Lyburn and Rev. Howard Dunn, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Concord cemetery in Federalsburg.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Freddie Craig, John Davis, Sr., John Davis, Jr., Mark Blanchfield, Anthony Hill, Jeff Blanchfield, Steve Blanchfield, Aaron Trice and Christopher Hill.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Christ United Methodist Church c/o James Hubbert 315 Maple Avenue Federalsburg, Maryland 21632

Kirk, Vinnie Victoria

Vinnie Victoria “Granny” Kirk, 96, of Elkton, MD, went home to be with the Lord on Mon. Oct. 8, 2001 at Laurelwood Care Center in Elkton.

Mrs. Kirk, a homemaker, was born on October 3, 1905 in Grayson County, VA. She was the daughter of the late Harlow & Nealie Carter. She was a member of Fremont United Methodist Church for over forty years where she was also a member of the Ladies Aid and Friendly Mission. She was also a Sunday School teacher and a former Methodist minister. She was a loving grandmother who loved flowers, gardening, cooking and music.

She is survived by a son, Donald McAllister, Sr of Nottingham, PA; 4 granddaughters, Debbie Gouge of Elkton, Rebecca Field of Ashville, NC, Linda Shalom of West Bloomfield, MI and Connie Madison of Rising Sun, MD; 8 great grandchildren, Keith & Scott Gouge, Fred & Tracy Hill, Jaime, Brandon & Lindsey Madison, and Dylan Field; and 3 great great grandchildren, Austen Gouge and John & McKenzie Rose Hill.

She is preceded in death by her first husband Rev. Dan H. McAllister; her second husband Ross M. Kirk; and a grandson, Donald McAllister, Jr.

Service will be held at 12 noon Fri. Oct. 12th at Fremont United Methodist Church in Nottingham, PA where friends may call 1 hour prior. Rev. Robert A. Crane will be officiating. Burial will be in Fremont cemetery.

Jester, James Thomas

James Thomas Jester of Choptank Main Street, Preston, MD died at his home on Saturday, March 24, 2001. He was 73.

He was born Aug. 26, 1927 in Choptank, MD, the son of the late Ear and Edna Collins Jester.

He was a Preston High School graduate Class of 1944. He was a WW II Army veteran serving in Company "E" Manhattan District Santa Fe, NM. He worked as a mechanic for Preston Motor Company, had driven truck for Robert M. Harper & Son; had worked for the former Fry Memorials in Cambridge which later became Acra Arts Memorials, and later founded Jester Sandblasting of Choptank, MD. He was a life member of Preston Volunteer Fire Co., Past Counselor and member of the Junior Order United American Mechanic #43 in Preston, was member of the Preston Council, member of the American Legion Post #70 in Easton, and was a Committee Member of Boy Scout Troop #461 in Preston.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Alvina Monath Jester, whom he married May 12, 1949, three sons, Russell Alan Jester of Delray Beach, FL, Earl Louis Jester, Sr. and Robert Francis Jester, both of Choptank; five grandchildren, Lori E. Jester, Michael A. Jester, Earl L. Jester, Jr., April L. Jester and Daniel R. Jester; and a sister, Evelyn Williamson of Choptank.

Funeral services, including a Fireman's service, will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg. Interment will follow in Belmont cemetery in Choptank, MD. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A service by Junior Order U.A.M. will be held at 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Caroline Hospice Foundation, PO Box 362, Denton, MD 21629 or Junior Order U.A.M. , c/o Chuck Cahall, 25655 Hignutt Rd., Denton, MD 21629.

Mitchell, R. Stephen

R. Stephen "Steve" Mitchell, 45, of Woolford, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2003 at Memorial Hospital in Easton. He was born on April 4, 1958 was the son of Raymond E. and Mary Louise Handley Mitchell.

Mr. Mitchell was in the last class to graduate in 1976 from Cambridge High School. He worked on the water for a while until he started working for Spicer Lumber Company until they closed. His most recent job was working for the Solid Waste Division of Dorchester County as a motor equipment operator. Mr. Mitchell enjoyed spending time with his pet Patch Dog. Some of his hobbies were fishing, crabbing, rabbit hunting and Nascar.

He is survived by his daughter Bobbie Jo Mitchell of Easton, his fiancée Vickie Parks of Woolford, his parents Raymond E. and Mary Louise Mitchell of East New Market, a sister Brenda Nelson and husband Allen of Cambridge, maternal grandmother Susie Handley of Cambridge, two nieces Sheri Aybar of Hampstead, Md. and Lisa Kumpar of Westminster.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with J. Edward King officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Humane Society of Dorchester County, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to The Heart Fund c/o Lorraine Dickerson, 10 Harris Dr., Cambridge, MD 21613.
