September 24, 2000

Mary Ella Morris Brown, of Sudlersville, MD, died on Sept. 24th, 2000 at Corsica Hills Nursing Home in Centreville, MD. She was 84 years old.

She was born in Chestertown, Maryland on Feb. 25, 1916. She is the daughter of the late Clarence H. Morris and Addie M. Biddle. Mrs.. Brown married William H. Brown in April, 1951. He predeceased her in 1979. Mrs. Brown worked for Dixon Valve in Philadelphia, PA as an assembler. She retired in 1972. She was a member of MBA Railroad Union.

She is survived by 4 brothers; Walter F. Morris of New Castle, DE, Robert L. Morris of Church Hill, MD, Frank B. Morris of Sudlersville, MD, William S. Morris of Faulkner, MD and 5 sisters; Elizabeth B. Green of Chestertown, MD, Addie L. Rosenblat of Wilmington, DE, Evelyn Roe of Sudlersville, MD, Anna Mae Roe of Chestertown, MD and Elva Jane Morris of Elkton, MD.

Funeral Services will be Private. Memorial Contributions can be made to Queen Anne's Hospice, 100 Del Rhodes Ave., Queenstown, MD 21653.

September 24, 2000

John Paniere of Marydel, MD died on September 24, 2000 at Kent & Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown, MD of Heart Failure. He was 93 years old.

Born in Nokomis, Ill., the son of the late Marco and Anna Paniere. Mr. Paniere was involved in farming all his life. Preceded in death by his wife Mae Paniere in 1979 and by 1 son Justino Paniere in 1992.

Mr. Paniere is survived by one daughter Annabelle Taylor of Marydel, MD, 1 son; John Eric Paniere also of Marydel, MD, 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. 1 Brother George Paniere of Sudlersville, MD and 1 sister Anne P. Sayer of Plant City, FL.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday September 27, 2000 at 2:00p.m. from the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. 370 W. Cypress Street, Millington, MD, where friends and family may call 1 hour prior. Interment will be in Sudlersville cemetery, Sudlersville, MD.

David Daniel Schneider of Easton died on Sunday, September 24, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital, Easton. He was 81.

Born December 19, 1918 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Benjamin V. and Lottie Goldstein Schneider. After attending public school in Baltimore, he served in the U.S. Army during WW II. Following his honorable discharge, he served in the Merchant Marines and attended Eastern College in Baltimore. In 1968, he formed his own household repair service. In 1982, he moved to Easton and attended Chesapeake College prior to working there for several years. His final working position was with Easton Ford.

Mr. Schneider is survived by his wife, the former Katherine Louise "Kitty" Sloan, whom he married on August 11, 1963; three daughters, Arlene Elsie of Tampa, FL, Ina P. Schacher of Ontario, Canada, and Helen Victoria Rhoades of Odenton, MD; three sons, John Charles Schneider of Seattle, WA, James Daniel Schneider of Baltimore, and Victor David Schneider; one sister, Jessie Slevitz of Baltimore; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Cathedral, Easton on Saturday, September 30, 2000 at 2:00 PM. Sept. 23, 2000

Marilyn Bacon Wilderson died of cancer Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. She was 55.

Born Sept.21, 1945, in Sioux Falls, S.D., she was the daughter of Omar Bacon of Visalia, CA and the late Mildred Voges Bacon. She graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1963, and received her B.S. in pharmacy from the University of Iowa in 1968. She went on to earn an M.A. in English literature from the University of New Hampshire in 1977, and completed all the coursework for her doctorate.

She worked as a pharmacist at the University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver and a drugstore in Dover, N.H.; as a freshman English instructor at the University of New Hampshire; and as an editorial assistant for the New Hampshire Historical Society. At the University of Nebraska she was an editor on the staff of the Great Plains Quarterly, and edited the initial volume of the new Papers of the Lewis & Clark Expedition for the University Press. She was a marketing manager at Cornell Maritime Press in Centreville, and a manuscript editor at the Naval Institute Press. Mrs. Wilderson was a published, prize-winning poet.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband of 32 years, Paul W. Wilderson III; two daughters, Sarah W. Wilderson of Denver, Colo. and Clare M. Wilderson of Stevensville; and a brother, Robert D. Bacon of Oakland, Calif.

Funeral services will be held at the Living Water Lutheran Church in Stevensville at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27. Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, in Chester, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. September 22, 2000

Sara Evelyn Harris Fallowfield died on September 22, 2000 at Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital. She was 90.

Born on July 25, 1910 in Betterton, Maryland. She was the daughter of the late Arthur L. and Evelyn Bockmiller Harris. She was a graduate of Mary Washington College and worked as a Social worker and teacher. In 1928 she was the first woman on record to swim across the Chesapeake Bay.

She is survived by her husband: Dr. Harry W. Fallowfield of Rock Hall, Md. , her sister: Ruth Bartlett of Chestertown, Md., her children: Sara Ann Weber of Westminster, Md., the Reverend William H. Fallowfield of Baltimore, Md., and Mary Sue Richardson of Frostburg, Md. along with 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday September 26, 2000 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church near Chestertown. Interment will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Kent County Hospice Foundation 103 Dixon Drive Chestertown, Md. 21620 or the charity of your choice.

Richard Henry Norair, Sr. of Easton, MD, a prominent Washington builder, died on September 22, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital in Easton. He was 71.

Born in Meyersdale, PA on April 8, 1929, he was the son of the late Hrandt and Anne Speiker Norair. In 1953, he graduated from the University of Maryland in College Park with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He also served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953-55. Following his release from active duty, he made his home in Landover. He joined the family construction business, Norair Engineering Corp., and the related Norair companies. While working for the company, he built buildings at the Goddard Space Flight Center, the Smithsonian Institute's Museum of History and Technology, the Navy's Deep Submergence Research Complex at Annapolis, and several Washington D.C. area Metro stations. In 1968, he moved to Potomac until moving to Easton in 1981. Although he retired in 1992, he later developed the Elkton Care Center, and BayWoods of Annapolis.

Mr. Norair was a member of the Young Presidents Organization, the Chief Executive Organization, the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Club, the Tred Avon Yacht Club, and the American Arbitration Association. He also served on the NVR Board of Directors, and on the Talbot Hospice Advisory Council.

Mr. Norair is survived by his wife, the former Alice Boesch, whom he married in 1953; two sons, Richard H. Norair, Jr. of Bethesda and Stephen G. Norair of Fredericksburg, VA; two daughters Jill S. Norair of Falls Church,VA and Patricia N. Green of Rockville; a sister, Rosemary Jaskiewicz of Upper Marlboro; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Easton on Wednesday, September 27, 2000 at 11:00 AM. Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Tuesday from 5-7 PM. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Character Counts, 5 Federal Street, Easton, MD 21601 or the Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, MD 21601.

Daisy Mildred Phillips, of Elkton formerly of Tilghman died at the Laurelwood Healthcare Center, Elkton, Md. On Friday September 22, 2000. She was 81.

Born near Trappe on December 10, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Roland Lee and Martha Lee Talley Sard. After graduating from Trappe High School in 1935 she moved to Tilghman where in 1942 she married Charles Norwood Phillips who died July 1965. A former member of Tilghman United Methodist Church, Tilghman, she was a member of the St. Michaels Chapter # Order of Eastern Star of which she was a Past Worthy Matron.

Mrs. Phillips is survived by two daughters, Emily R. Wagner of Elk Mills, MD and Charlene P. Shortall of Duluth, GA; a son, Charles N. Phillips, Jr. of Tilghman; two sisters, Velma S. Sanger and Madeline S. Mullikin, both of Easton; two brothers, Lloyd W. Sard and Loren W. Sard, both of Easton; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Tilghman United Methodist Church on Tuesday September 26th at 2:00PM. Burial will at Tilghman Memorial cemetery, Tilghman, MD. Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Easton, on Monday evening from 7 - 9 PM and at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Memorial donations may be made to St. Marks Ministry to the Aged, Inc., 212 Bay St., Easton, MD 21601.

Martha H. Yewell of Grasonville died at the Mink Hill Care Home, Grasonville on Friday, September 22, 2000. She was 82.

Born in Stuttgart, Germany on November 5, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Heinrick and Christina Berhardt Holderrieth. Mrs. Yewell came to the United States in March 1929 when she was 21 and worked as a governess for families in Oxford, St. Michaels and Kent Island. In November 1942 she married Marion Wells Wilson Yewell of Queenstown, MD. Mr. Yewell died on December 5, 1959. After his death she worked as a seamstress at the Perfect Garment in Grasonville, MD.

Mrs. Yewell was active at the Grasonville Church of God where she taught Sunday School and was the Church Clerk for many years & enjoyed gardening.

Mrs. Yewell is survived by her son, Marion Wells Yewell of Pittsville, MD.; a grandson, Marion Christopher Yewell of Queenstown; a great granddaughter Emily Katelin Yewell, two sisters, Lydia Holderrieth of Stuttgart, Germany and Frida Holderrieth of Schwaigern, Germany. Two brothers William & Carl Holderreith are deceased.

Funeral services will be held 1PM Tuesday, September 26, 2000 at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Centreville, MD. Where family and friends may call on Monday September 25, 2000 from 7PM to 9PM. Interment will be in Chesterfield cemetery in Centreville, MD. The family request that memorial donations may be made to Grasonville Church of God c/o Memorial Building Fund 117 Station Lane Grasonville, MD. 21638.

September 21, 2000

Carolyn O. Chambers of Easton died on Thursday, September 21, 2000, at the William Hill Manor. She was 84.

Born on March 18, 1916 in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late James E. and Marie C. Toft. Her husband, Norris Lee Chambers, whom she married in May 1943, died in 1983. Her only immediate survivors are several nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services will be held at Jr. Order cemetery in Preston, Md on Tuesday, September 26, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements are by Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Easton.

September 21, 2000

William E. Crane, III of Louisville, KY died on Thursday, September 21, 2000 at the Baptist Hospital East, Louisville, KY. He was 50. Born July 1, 1950 in Washington, DC, he was the son of William E. II and Sharon Callahan Crane. Mr. Crane was the Vice-President of Commonwealth Mortgage Co. was a graduate of the University of Maryland. He was a member of the Highland Presbyterian Church and had been a member of the University of Maryland Alumni Association, and the University of Maryland Club. In addition to his parents, Mr. Crane is survived by his wife, June W. Crane; a son, William E. Crane, IV; a daughter, Nancy L. Crane; two brothers, Joseph Crane and Henry Crane and a sister, Kathleen C. Aaron. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2000 at 11:00 AM at the Spring Hill cemetery, Easton, MD. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

September 20, 2000

Dorothy Powell Allen, recently of St. Michaels, MD died Wednesday, September 20, 2000 at Memorial Hospital at Easton. She was 78.

Mrs. Allen is survived by her husband Curtis F. Allen; one son, David Allen; three daughters, Jacqueline, Vicki and Pamela.

The family will hold a private memorial service. Arrangements were made by the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton, MD.

Julia Sophie Bornhoeft of Easton, formerly of Annapolis, died on Wednesday, September 20, 2000 at the William Hill Manor in Easton. She was 98. Born in New York City on February 24, 1902, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Sophie Kuchera Zvonik. After graduating from high school, she worked as a secretary until her marriage in 1922 to John Edward Bornhoeft. They made their home on Long Island before moving to Annapolis in 1960 where she was a member of the Trinity United Methodist and her husband was one of the founders of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Bornhoeft died in August 1982 and, in July of 1990, she moved to Easton where she was a member of the St. Mark's United Methodist Church. Mrs. Bornhoeft is survived by a son, Warren G. Bornhoeft of Centreville; six grandchildren, Nancy M. Koval of Chester, Susan B. McCartan of Dousman, WI, Jeanne L. Rowe of Greensboro, Laura A. O'Brien of McHenry, IL, John W. Bornhoeft of Henderson, and Peter W. Bornhoeft of Ridgely; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Easton on Monday, September 25, 2000 at 11:00 AM. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial in Maryland Veterans cemetery in Crownsville will be on Monday, September 25, 2000 at 1:00 PM.

Roger “Buddy” Levi Dawkins of Centreville, died at the University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore, MD on Wednesday, September 20, 2000. He was 67.

Born on July 5, 1933 in Easton, MD, he was the son of the late Roger William and Eva Cummings Everett Dawkins. He lived in Caroline County where he attended Ridgely Schools and where he later farmed with his father. In 1956 he joined the U.S. Army and served as an Honor Guard at Ft. McNair, Washington, DC. On May 16, 1956 he married the former Janice Moore of Centreville, MD. Following his release from active duty he returned to farming at Meadow Brook Farms in Centreville and from 1966 until his retirement in 1981 he had worked with horses on the Woodstock Farms in Chesapeake City, MD.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Dawkins is survived by two daughters, Valerie Lynn Truitt of Port Deposit, MD and Melissa Jo Dawkins of Wye Mills, MD; a son, James Roger Dawkins of Newark, DE; also survived by 7 grandchildren, Ian Truitt, Matthew Truitt, Lori Truitt, Tabatha Truitt, Rebecca Truitt, Jeffrey Truitt, all of Port Deposit, MD and Douglas Dawkins of Newark, DE and his loving K-9 companion “Butch”.

Funeral services will be held at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Centreville, MD on Saturday, September 23, 2000 at 11:00 where friends may call one hour prior to the service. A Graveside service will be held at the Chesterfield cemetery, Centreville, MD on Monday, September 25, 2000 at 11:00 AM.
