Anna E. Costley, 63, of Bear, Del.

Anna E. Costley, 63, of Bear, Del., died Monday, April 7, 2003, in Delaware.

Born May 27, 1939, in Westminster, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Thomas Myers and Jane Brightful Costley.

She had been an art teacher.

Surviving are brothers Ike Costley of Westminster, Tommy Costley of Pendleton, N.J., Wayne Costley of Petersburg, Va., Larry, Galen and Patrick Costley, all of Randallstown, Mike and Mark Costley, both of Sykesville, and Timmy Costley of Columbia; and sisters Robyn Coleman of Clinton and Dora Ellis of Lindenwood, N.J.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at White Rock United Methodist Church, White Rock Road, Sykesville, with the Rev. Doris Ridgely officiating. Interment will be in White Rock Church cemetery.

A wake will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.

Walter R. 'Slim' Gause, 94, formerly of New Windsor

Walter R. "Slim" Gause, 94, formerly of New Windsor, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

Born Oct. 3, 1908, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles and Pauline Gause. He was the husband of Elsie Mae Pearson Gause, who died in 1994.

During his early years, he was a coal miner in Lackawanna County, Pa. Prior to World War II, he joined the Army and served in China for six years. During the war, he was a machine gunner with the Army infantry, seeing action in North Africa, Sicily (Italy), France and Germany.

He retired from the military in 1949 after 21 years of service and following retirement, he was a self-employed painter.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, New Windsor, and a former member of the New Windsor Senior Citizens. He loved dogs. He enjoyed coffee, fishing, gardening, playing the piano, speaking broken Chinese, mentally calculating math problems, crossword puzzles, singing and listening to baseball games on the radio, especially the Baltimore Orioles.

He was the last of his immediate family.

Surviving are stepson and spouse John A. Jr. and Ginny Greene of Frederick; grandchildren and spouses Michelle and Rick Brazelton of Frederick, Anthony and Jennifer Greene of Syracuse, N.Y., and Adam and Wendy Greene of Charlottesville, Va.; grandson Philip Greene of Frederick; great-granddaughter Margaret Rosalyn Greene; nephew Joe Gause; and nieces Arlene Hoebel and Evelyn Gause.

He was predeceased by sister Stella; and brothers Stanley, Bernard, Charles and Joseph Gause.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor, with his pastor, the Rev. Mary Kay Totty, officiating. Interment will be in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Helen L. Hilleary, 84, of Catonsville

Helen Louise Hilleary, 84, of Catonsville, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at the Westminster Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Aug. 21, 1918, she was the daughter of Earl Roy and Helen Ostrander of Catonsville. She was the wife of the late John Hilleary.

She was an underwriter for the Baltimore Life Insurance Co. for 43 years.

Surviving are brother Earl Roy Ostrander Jr.; nieces and nephews Dorothy Runkles, Robert Deshong, Phillip, Richard, John and Tom Ostrander, Linda Casher, Joyce Glasgow, Helen Mancha and Sue Pennington.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Loring Byers Funeral Home, 8728 Liberty Road, Randallstown. Interment will be in Druid Ridge cemetery, Pikesville.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Clarence E. Ritter, 73, of Glyndon

Clarence Edward Ritter, 73, of Glyndon, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Northwest Hospital Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bosley United Methodist Church.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown.

Evelyne H. Shipley, 92, of Berrett

Evelyne H. Shipley, 92, of Berrett, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at Carroll County General Hospital.

Born Dec. 16, 1910, in Frederick County, she was the daughter of the late Howard J. and Annie M. Roof Anders. She was the wife of the late John R. Shipley Sr.

She had been a housekeeper at Springfield Hospital Center for many years. She was a member of Brandenburg United Methodist Church, Berrett.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law Charles Robert Sr. and Kaye Shipley of Sykesville; daughter and son-in-law Dollie E. and Ralph Bennett of Sykesville; sister Mary Elizabeth Willard of Thurmont; grandchildren Charles Robert Shipley Jr., and Matthew and Kimberly Shipley; and step-granddaughter Susan Jones.

She was predeceased by son John R. Shipley Jr.; siblings James J. Anders, Beulah Green and Hennie Marshall; and step-grandson Andrew Smith.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Brandenburg United Methodist Church, Berrett, with the Revs. Jay Fitz and Henry Ernst officiating. Interment will be in Brandenburg UMC cemetery, Berrett.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Brandenburg United Methodist Church Parking Lot Fund, 6050 Old Washington Road, Sykesville, MD 21784.

Grover K. Cook, 90, of Towson

Grover Kennard Cook, 90, of the Presbyterian Home of Maryland in Towson, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003.

Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Ernest and Annie Tillman Cook. He was the husband of the late Anna Buckman Cook.

He had been a commercial artist.

Surviving are son Rodney Cook of Baltimore; son and daughter-in-law Noel and Carol Cook of Woodbine; and grandson Matthew Cook of Woodbine.

He was predeceased by siblings Evelyn Alexander and Walter Clinton Cook.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Garrison. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Ruck Towson Funeral Home Inc., 1050 York Road, Towson.

Mary G. "Neve" Grue, 81, of Arnold

Mary Geneva "Neve" Grue, 81, of Arnold, died Friday morning, Oct. 24, 2003, at the FutureCare-Chesapeake Nursing Home in Arnold.

Born Aug. 5, 1922, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late John C. Sr. and Geneva Kennard Dahlgreen. She was the wife of the late Alfred V. Grue, her husband of 22 years.

She was a supervisor at the Hartz Clothing Factory in Union Bridge for many years.

Surviving are granddaughter Jamie M. Thomas of Severn; great-grandson Devin Proctor; sister Ruth Dahlgreen Myers of Westminster; sister-in-law Julia Dahlgreen of Westminster; four nephews; and two nieces.

She was predeceased by brother John C. "Jack" Dahlgreen Jr.

A graveside service and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Sandymount United Methodist Church cemetery in Finksburg, with the Rev. John C. Morrill officiating.

There will be no public visitation.

The Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, is in charge of arrangements.

John A. Jacobs, 64, of Woodbine

John A. Jacobs, 64, of Woodbine, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at his home

Born Jan. 20, 1939, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John A.K. Jacobs and Thelma M. Dorsey Jacobs. He was the husband of Sheridan R. Bowen Jacobs, his wife of 47 years.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1960.

He was a postal letter carrier for the U.S. government for over 30 years and was a member of Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church in Sykesville.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons and daughters-in-law John R. and Gina Jacobs of Hanover, Pa., and Eric W. and Ginny Jacobs of Westminster.; daughter and son-in-law Linda D. and William Rowe of Ellicott City; daughter Jacqueline M. Jacobs of Los Angeles, Calif.; sister and brother-in-law Janet and John Sraver of Hampstead; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church, 961 Johnsville Road, Sykesville, with the Rev. Richard McCullough, of the church, officiating. Inurnment will be private.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, where a veterans memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Hospice, 95 Carroll St., Westminster, MD 21157.

Evelyn L. Palmer, 93, of Catonsville

Evelyn Louise Dell Palmer, 93, of Catonsville, died Thursday, October 23, 2003.

She was the wife of the late Glenelg Palmer.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Jacqueline P. and Ben Goertemiller and Janis Lynn and Wayne Dishman; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was predeceased by daughter Jean Lee Crook.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Witzke Funeral Home of Catonsville Inc., 1630 Edmondson Ave., Catonsville. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park in Sykesville.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. today, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.

Virginia K. Seifert, 77, of Hampstead

Virginia Katherine Seifert, 77, of Hampstead, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at the Westminster Nursing and Rehabilitative Center in Hampstead.

Born June 24, 1926, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Walter Charles Getner and Bennetta Glass Getner. She was the wife of the late Lloyd Eugene Seifert Sr.

She had been a waitress and attended Hampstead Baptist Church.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law Lloyd Eugene Jr. and Gail Seifert of Martinsburg, W.Va.; son and partner Michael T. Seifert and Harvey Holthaus of Baltimore; daughter and son-in-law Ginger B. and Dan Chiveral of Hampstead; grandchildren Theresa Seifert of Martinsburg, W.Va., Diane Seifert of Winchester, Va., Lloyd Seifert III of Williamsburg, Va., and Lindsay and Taylor Chiveral, both of Hampstead; and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main St., Hampstead, with the Rev. Chris Brammer officiating. Interment will be in Druid Ridge cemetery, Baltimore.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Leroy Delph, 74, formerly of Maryland

Leroy Delph, 74, of Bulls Gap, Tenn., formerly of Maryland, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at U.T. Medical Center, as the result of an apparent heart attack.

He was the son of the late Joe and Ida Delph. He was the husband of Mabel Delph of Maryland.

He was retired from the Carroll County Department of Roads.

He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter and son-in-law Jean and Edward Zulch of North Carolina; sons and daughters-in-law Robert and Tammy Delph and Ronald and Joan Delph, all of Maryland, and Donald Delph of Mooresburg, Tenn.; stepmother Alice Delph of St. Clair, Tenn.; sister and brother-in-law Faye and James Ashley, with whom he resided; brothers Hobert Delph of Maryland and William Delph of St. Clair, Tenn.; two granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brother Palmer Delph, sister Josephine Muskgrove and stepbrother Chris Sullivan

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 11 a.m. until time of service Friday at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel and from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville, Tenn. Friends may also call at the home of his sister, Faye Ashley, in Bulls Gap, Tenn.
