Rena M. Brown, 79, of Littlestown, Pa.

Rena May Brown, 79, of Littlestown, Pa., died Monday morning, Nov. 3, 2003, at Hanover Hospital, Hanover, Pa.

Born June 20, 1924, in Lee County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Nora Jones Anderson. She was the wife of Paul G. Brown, her husband of 60 years.

She was a homemaker. She belonged to Bethel Assembly of God in Littlestown, Pa.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are son Calvin D. Brown of Littlestown, Pa.; daughter Carolyn L. Smith of Littlestown, Pa.; brothers Paul Anderson of Ellicott City and Monty Anderson of Florida; sisters Minnie Livesay of Landsdown and Martha Buzuvis of Plymouth, Mich.; grandchildren Dannette Decampo, Tonya Kram and Shawn Brown; and great-grandchildren Tatum Kram, Hayden Kram, Logan Kram, Elijah Decampo and Noah Decampo.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Little's Funeral Home, 34 Maple Ave., Littlestown, Pa., with the Rev. Garry L. Sheaffer officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven cemetery, Hanover, Pa.

Friends may call fronds may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Kyle Russell-Zaur Chapman, 5, of Eldersburg

Kyle Russell-Zaur Chapman, 5, of Eldersburg, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at the Carroll County General Hospital.

Born July 5, 1998, in Tobolsk, Siberia, Russia, he was the son of Lee J. and Jackie K. Heller Chapman.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are grandparents Samuel and Selma Rosenfeld of Silver Spring, Anita Heller and Frank Kowalski of Darnestown, and Lawrence Heller and Mary Ellen Fitzgerald of Madison, Va.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Olin L. Molesworth Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus. Interment will be in Damascus Methodist cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.

William A. Elburn, 88, of Reisterstown

William A. Elburn, 88, of Reisterstown, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at Sinai Hospital Center in Baltimore.

Born May 1, 1915, in Baltimore County, he was the son of the late Herbert W. and Lois Elburn. He was the husband of the late Margaret B. Elburn.

He was a self-employed mechanic at Elburn Garage.

Surviving are sons Stewart W. Elburn and companion Janet D. Tore, Wilton A. Elburn and wife Kathie Lynn of Reisterstown; grandchildren Lori Isenhour of Owings Mills, Amy Mummert of Westminster, Drew Elburn of Baltimore, Jill Nichols and Matthew Elburn, both of Salisbury, and Jeffrey Elburn of Reisterstown; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by daughter M. Linda Egolf and sister Anna Ayres.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown, with the Rev. Terrance L. Thrasher of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Owings Mills officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Baltimore.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jeanne E. Green, 76, of New Windsor

Jeanne Engel Green, 76, of New Windsor, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at her home after an illness of 31/2 months.

Born July 16, 1927, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late Merton Albaugh Engel and Grace M. Zumbrum Engel. She was the wife of E. Preston "Pete" Green, her husband of 57 years.

She was a 1944 graduate of New Windsor High School and had attended Western Maryland College. She attended Bethel United Methodist Church, where she had served as treasurer of the United Methodist Women.

She was a dairy wife on the family dairy farm, retiring in 1994. She enjoyed animals, especially cats, traveling, playing cards and gardening.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are daughter and son-in-law Carol and William Townshend of near New Windsor; son James R. Green of near New Windsor; and grandchildren Ross Green of New Windsor, Melissa Keeney and husband John of Taneytown, and Seth Green of League City, Texas.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. Charles H. Acker Jr., pastor of Johnsville United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Pipe Creek cemetery, near Linwood.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of Carroll Hospice, 95 Carroll St., Westminster, MD 21157; or the American Cancer Society, 1393 Progress Way, Suite 908, Eldersburg, MD 21784.

Elisha E. Mathis, 70, of Mount Airy

Elisha Edward "Pappy" Mathis, 70, of Mount Airy, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at the home of his daughter.

Born Jan. 19, 1933, in Maryland, he was the son of the late Charles Clyde and Lillian Seal Mathis. He was the husband of Ann L. Mathis.

He was an Army veteran. He worked as a crew leader for Asplundh Service Colundh Service Co. for 21 years.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son Michael S. Mathis; daughters La Donna J. Baugher, Shirley M. Harbin and Dorothy A. Bell; brother Bigie C. Mathis; sisters Mary Wood and Martha Saunders; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 18 nieces and nephews; and many cousins.

He was predeceased by daughter Joyce Ann Mathis; son Jerry Ross Mathis; brothers Donald R. Mathis, Walter Mathis and Grayson E. Mathis; and sister Grace M. Minor.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. Interment will be in Seal Family cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 p.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Parker T. Miller, 91, of Westminster

Parker T. Miller, 91, of Westminster, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at Westminster Nursing and Rehabilitative Center, Westminster.

Born Oct. 24, 1912, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late William H. and Cora S. Zepp Miller. He was the husband of Leota F. Snyder Miller.

He worked in maintenance with Black & Decker. He attended Wesley United Methodist Church.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, is sister Margareimore.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main St., Hampstead, with the Rev. Jeffrey Odom officiating. Interment will be in Wesley United Methodist cemetery, Hampstead.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 3239 Carrollton Road, Hampstead, MD 21074.

Margaret V. Shifler, 85, formerly of Union Bridge

Margaret Valera Shifler, 85, formerly of Union Bridge, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at Beverly Healthcare Frederick, after an extended illness.

Born March 18, 1918, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late H. Frederick and Mabel Elizabeth Mackley Sheeley. She was the wife of Orville Edgar Shifler Jr., who died in 1981.

She graduated from Frederick High School. She and her husband were former owners and operators of the Union Bridge Locker Plant.

She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Frederick. She was a member and past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Plymouth Chapter 41, Union Bridge, where she served as organist for many years.

She enjoyed crocheting, music and playing the organ.

Surviving are daughter Peggy Shifler of Westminster; granddaughter Heidi Lynn Shifler of Union Bridge; aunt Evelyn Heck of Frederick; and devoted car and devoted caretaker Pat Tracey of Keymar.

She was predeceased by son Orville E. Shifler III in 1996.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Union Bridge United Methodist Church, 7. S. Main St., Union Bridge, with the Rev. Charles Slaugh, church pastor, officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Arc of Carroll County, 180 Kriders Church Road, Westminster, MD 21158.

Fred T. Alban, 87, of Hanover, Pa.

Fred T. Alban, 87, of Hanover, Pa., died Friday evening, Oct. 31, 2003, at the Hanover Hospital.

Born April 25, 1916, in Hampstead, he was the son of the late Irvin and Nora Tracey Alban. He was the husband of Dorothy "Dolly" M. Hyde Alban, who died in 1973.

He served in the Army, enlisting in 1935, and was discharged in 1938. During that time, he was stationed at Fort Meade and was part of the 3rd Cavalry.

He retired from Verizon Telephone Co., which was the former Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co. of Maryland, after several years of service.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, New Windsor, and of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks No. 763, Hanover, Pa.

Surviving are soSurviving are son F. Tracey Alban II of New Windsor; daughter Martha "Nicki" Alban of Hanover, Pa.; two granddaughters; one grandson; sisters Charlotte Ott of Baltimore and Bernice Pitts of Hanover, Pa.; and longtime companion Margaret Allender of Hanover, Pa.

A graveside service was held Tuesday at St. Luke's (Winters) Lutheran cemetery, New Windsor.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 200 Main St., New Windsor, MD 21776; Hospice of the Visiting Nurse Association, 440 N. Madison St., Hanover, PA 17331; or to the New Windsor Volunteer Fire Company, 209 High St., New Windsor, MD 21776.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kenworthy Funeral Home Inc., 269 Frederick St., Hanover, Pa.

Henry C. Boone Sr., 72, of Union Bridge

Henry Carlton Boone Sr., 72, of Union Bridge, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at his residence after a brief illness.

Born Aug. 28, 1931, in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Elmer and Myrtle Mae Miller Boone. He was the husband of Betty J. Boone, his wife of 50 years.

He retired from Lehigh Portland Cement Co., Union Bridge, in 1993, after 38 years of employment.

He was a social member of the VFW Post 8806, Union Bridge. He enjoyed NASCAR races, hunting and fishing.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter and son-in-law Sandra Lee and Burnell Broadwater of Union w Robert and Pat Strine of Waynesboro, Va., James and Debbie Strine of Taneytown, and Henry C. Jr. and Patti Boone, and Charles and Carolyn Boone, all of Union Bridge; sisters Jeanette Whitmore of Frederick, Helen Brewer of Oxford, Pa., Pauline Neil and Betty Boone, both of McConnellsburg, Pa., and Peggy Fritz of New Windsor; brothers Donald M. Boone of McConnellsburg, Pa., Richard L. Boone of Union Bridge, Larry T. Boone of Frederick, and Jack R. Boone of Linwood; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by brothers Charles Boone, who died in 1959, Paul L. "Rainie" Boone, who died on Oct. 14, 2003, and infants Jimmy and Bobby Boone; and sisters S. Rosalie Fritz, who died in 2000, and infants Audrey and Lavenia Boone.

Private inurnment services will be held in Mountain View cemetery, Union Bridge, at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. Richard L. Michael, pastor of St. James Lutheran Church, Union Bridge, officiating.

There will be no public visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dove House, c/o Carroll Hospice, 95 Carroll St., Westminster, MD 21157; or the American Cancer Society, 1393 Progress Way, Suite 908, Eldersburg, MD 21784.

George W. Hartzell, 89, of Reisterstown

George W. HartzeGeorge W. Hartzell, 89, of Reisterstown, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at Mariner Health of Bel Air.

Born Nov. 5, 1913, in Baltimore County, he was the son of the late Walter and Anna Hartzell. He was the husband of the late Frances I. Hartzell.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Telephone Pioneers of America.

He had been employed for 30 years as a cable strander for Western Electric.

Surviving are daughter Irene H. Heffner of Joppa; grandchildren Michael S. Heffner of Frederick, Cynthia A. Petinga and husband Tony of Newark, Del., and Steven G. Heffner and wife Connie of Baltimore; great-grandchildren Kiersten Heffner and Joseph Petinga; and nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown, with the Rev. Timothy P. Feaser officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Finksburg.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
