Anna M. Sprinkle, 84, formerly of Hampstead

Anna Mary Walter Sprinkle, 84, of Knightdale, N.C., formerly of Hampstead, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Wake Medical Center after a long illness.

Born April 27, 1919, in Reisterstown, she was the daughter of the late Oden and Mary Wertz Walter. She was the wife of the Rev. Elmer Thomas Sprinkle, who died Nov. 13, 1999.

She and her husband began their ministry at Gills United Methodist Church in Baltimore County. They served the Shiloh-Dover United Methodist churches in the Hampstead area for more than 20 years until moving to serve Calvary United Methodist Church in Ridgeley, W.Va. They remained in Ridgeley until February 1997, when they moved to Knightdale, N.C., to be closer to their son and his family.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law Tom and Pat Sprinkle of Knightdale, N.C.; grandsons Skip Sprinkle of Raleigh, N.C., and Todd Sprinkle and wife Rebekah of Charlotte, N.C.; granddaughter Cissie Gay and husband Lynn of Zebulon, N.C.; great-grandsons Connor and Sawyer Gay; brothers and sisters-in-law Charles and Katherine Walter of Hampstead, Howard and Mary Walter of Timonium, and Ralph and Lurley Walter of Reisterstown; and sister Edna Stocksdale of Reisterstown.

A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main St., Hampstead. A private graveside service will be held Thursday at Hampstead cemetery.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the local Alzheimer's Association or Alzheimer's Disease Association, 400 Oberlin Road, Suite 208, Raleigh, NC 27605.

Arthur M. 'Stoney' Stonesifer, 80, of Thurmont

Arthur Milton "Stoney" Stonesifer, 80, of Thurmont, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 11, 1922, in Silver Run, he was the son of the late John and Fannie Myers Stonesifer. He was the husband of Eva Martin Stonesifer.

He was an Air Force veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant.

He was a member of the Thurmont AMVETS Post 7 and the Woodsboro American Legion Post 282. He was a member of the Mount Zion United Methodist Church, where he served as a board member.

He began his career as an inspector for the USDA, going on to manage the first Southern States in Frederick County, located in Woodsboro. He and the late Frank Blessing then went into partnership, and opened the Gulf Gas Station in Keymar, which he operated for 28 years. After retiring, he worked for the past 10 years as a deliveryman for Flowers By Roy.

He enjoyed crabbing, fishing and camping.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters and son-in-law Patsy and Robert Trout of Gettysburg, Pa., Stephanie Stonesifer of Hanover, Pa., and Shelly Peterson of Taneytown; stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law Teresa Woods of Thurmont, Pamela J. and Rick Beard of Creagerstown and LeAnna and Chris Thomas of Taneytown; stepsons and stepdaughter-in-law Franklin H. Corum of Rocky Ridge and Ricky L. and Deborah Trail of Fairfield, Pa.; 26 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Theodore Bankert of Hanover, Pa.; brother Luther Stonesifer of Silver Run; brother-in-law Richard Martin and wife Helen of Mena, Ark.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, with the Rev. Richard Baker officiating.

The family will receive friends from noon until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Bowers, 82, of Reisterstown

Elizabeth Bowers, 82, of Reisterstown, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Northwest Hospital Medical Center in Randallstown.

Born March 18, 1921, in Reisterstown, she was the daughter of the late A. Margaret Bowers.

She was a 1938 graduate of Franklin High School.

She was a dietary supervisor at Rosewood State Hospital and a member of Deer Park United Methodist Church.

Surviving are aunt Helen F. Bowers of Reisterstown; cousins Margaret F. Bowers and Virginia E. Bowers, both of Reisterstown; and numerous cousins.

She was predeceased by grandfather George W. Bowers Sr.; and grandmother Mary E. Vaughn Bowers.

A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday at Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown, with the Rev. Margaret Moon of Deer Park United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Wards Chapel cemetery in Randallstown.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Arthur E. 'Ed' Cosgrove, 66, of Westminster

Arthur Edward "Ed" Cosgrove, 66, of Westminster, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at his home.

Born Feb. 12, 1937, in Charleroi, Pa., he was the son of the late Thomas L. Cosgrove and Mary Louise Faulx Cosgrove. He was the husband of Jean Hartman Cosgrove, his wife of 33 years, who died Feb. 7, 2000.

Before retiring in 1998, he was employed by the city of Baltimore Water Co. as a heavy equipment operator.

He served in the Army and received the Good Conduct Medal.

Surviving are step-daughters Donna Gillespie of Chase and Mary Bierbrauer of Boynton Beach, Fla.; sisters Marilyn "Lynn" Cosgrove and Karen Williams, both of Washington, Pa.; sister-in-law June Owens of Westminster; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brother Thomas Cosgrove.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Fletcher Funeral Home, 254 E. Main St., Westminster. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens with military honors.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to one's favorite charity.

H. Gordon Garrett, 84, of Hampstead

H. Gordon Garrett, 84, of Hampstead, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at the Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.

Born June 30, 1919, in Hampstead, he was the son of the late Walter E. and Blanche Clara Reed Garrett. He was the husband of Arlene Elizabeth Cramer Garrett.

He was a salesman for Pioneer Seed for more than 50 years. He sold turnips and sweet corn from his home and was known as the Turnip Man.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Manchester.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, is brother Maurice Luther Garrett of Manchester.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3184 Church St., Manchester, with his pastors, the Revs. Matthew and Norma Schenning, officiating. Interment will be in Trinity United Church of Christ cemetery in Manchester.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, and from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.

Betty A. McNeish, 73, of Reisterstown

Betty Andrews McNeish, 73, of Reisterstown, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Mass.

Born Aug. 11, 1930, in Buchtel, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Ralph H. and Kathryn R. Andrews. She was the wife of Robert F. McNeish.

She was a staff member at Cooks Branch Park and had worked for 25 years as an instructional lab assistant in Baltimore County schools and was a member of the science department.

She was a Sunday school teacher and librarian at Northminster Presbyterian Church, where she also sang in the choir.

She was a member of the Glyndon Women's Club, the Reisterstown Garden Club, founder of the Westminster Quilter Club and a member of the Darting Needle Quilters.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are daughters and sons-in-law Cathy Ann and Eric P. McCulley of Pepperell, Mass., Robin McNeish Thrift and Dr. Gary L. Thrift of Reisterstown and Missy McNeish Fanshaw and Thomas P. Fanshaw of Glyndon; brother Robert L. Andrews of Jacksonville, Fla.; and grandchildren Bob, Tim, Scott and Lauren McCulley, Garrett, Kendall and Kaitlyn Thrift and Patrick, Andrew and Michael Fanshaw.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 705 Main St., Reisterstown, with the Rev. Bill Sitterly of Northminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens in Timonium.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown.

Mae E. Parks, 86, of Manchester

Mae Elizabeth Parks, 86, of Manchester, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Gold Crest Assisted Living in Hampstead.

Born March 11, 1917, in Manchester, she was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Agnes Graf Warehime. She was the wife of the late Thomas R. Miller, Earl E. Smith and Richard L. Parks Jr.

She was a retired seamstress for area sewing factories.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 108 in Manchester, the Westminster Ladies of the Moose, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Manchester, and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Manchester Volunteer Fire Dept.

Surviving are son Thomas R. Miller of Manchester; and granddaughter Brenda.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester, with her pastors, the Rev. Matthew and Norma Schenning officiating. Interment will be in the Trinity United Church of Christ cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral chapel, where there will be an Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Carroll Hospice, 95 Carroll St., Westminster, MD 21157.

Megan M. Taylor, 17, of Westminster

Megan Marie Taylor, 17, of Westminster, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born Oct. 24, 1986, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Denny and Vicky Heagy Taylor of Westminster.

She was a member of the senior class of 2004 at Westminster High School. She was an Honor Roll student, a member of the varsity softball team and manager for the varsity football team. She also played for the PA Starz softball team of Glen Rock and was a member of the Maryland Stars traveling softball team. She was also a member of the Girls Athletic Board (GAB).

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are twin brother Zachary Taylor of Westminster; grandparents John and Irene Arbaugh; aunts Cindy Hauke of Westminster, Connie Green of Keymar, Gina Cook of Manchester, Janet Mathias of Westminster and Mary Burkholder of New Windsor; uncles Billy Heagy of Taneytown and Chuck Taylor of Westminster; great-grandmother Addie Cook; boyfriend Brandon Bosley; and many cousins.

She was predeceased by grandparents Melvin and Jane Heagy.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, with the Rev. Frederick Eckhardt officiating. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made for a sports scholarship fund that will be established in her memory. Donations may be sent to Amy Green, 112 Church Road, Owings Mills, MD 21117.

Jane Burdette, 46, formerly of New Windsor

Jane Burdette, 46, of Pasadena, formerly of New Windsor, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at her home after a lengthy illness.

Born April 1, 1957, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of John and Mary Lou Staehlin of Lutherville. She was the wife of Jay Burdette of Pasadena.

She was a 1975 graduate of Roland Park Country School and a 1979 graduate of the University of Michigan with a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education.

She was employed at Sacred Heart School kindergarten for the 1994 to 2003 school years, and Early Years Learning Center in Eldersburg several years prior to 1994.

She received the 1998 Catholic School Teacher of the Year award, which was given by the Knights of Columbus.

She enjoyed arts and crafts, watching sports, reading and spending time with her family.

Surviving, in addition to her parents and husband, are daughters Jen and Kim Burdette, both of Pasadena; son Robert Burdette of Pasadena; and sister Debbie Waterman of Eldersburg.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Church in Glyndon. Interment will be in Pipe Creek cemetery, Uniontown.

Friends may call from noon until time of service Saturday at the church, in the Seton room.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 8424 Veterans Highway, Millersville, MD 21108.

Arrangements are by Daugherty Family Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 2601 Mountain Road, Pasadena.

Ruth E. Cooke, 93, of Mount Airy

Ruth E. Cooke, 93, of Mount Airy, formerly of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Lorien of Mount Airy.

Born Feb. 23, 1910, in Parkersburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Tell and Florence Ingold Eskey. She was the wife of the late Chester Leo Cooke.

She was retired from the Maryland Dental School as a secretary.

Surviving are niece Betty Mills of Westminster; great-nieces Patricia Smith of Monkton and Jody Beall of Westminster; and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was predeceased by sister Marie Eskey Pratt; and brother Ray Robert Eskey.

Interment will be in Restlawn cemetery, Port Charlotte, Fla.

There will be no public visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Carroll Hospice, 95 Carroll St., Westminster, MD 21157.

Arrangements are by Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster.
