Shaun A. McManamey, 31, of Owings Mills

Shaun Alan McManamey, 31, of Owings Mills, died suddenly Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at his home from undetermined causes.

Born April 20, 1972, in Baltimore, he was the son of James R. and Claudia Light McManamey of Dale City, Va.

He was a graduate of George Mason University and served in the Marine Corps. He was a nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are sisters Dawn Barbee of Montclair, Va., and Tara Howry of Virginia Beach, Va.; and brother Ian McManamey of Wake Forest, N.C.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Northwest Baptist Church, 300 Westminster Road, Reisterstown, with the Rev. Gary Glanville officiating. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Quantico National cemetery in Virginia with full military honors.

Arrangements are by the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills.

Franklin A. Pitts, 82, of Westminster

Franklin Adam Pitts, 82, of Westminster, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at his home.

Born March 7, 1921, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Estin E. and Marie Kamer Pitts. He was the husband of Anna Theresa Schmidt, his wife of 40 years, who died in 1985, and Iona Stalnaker, whom he married in 1987.

He joined Levenson and Klein, a family-owned furniture business, as a stock boy at the age of 16. He later became vice president and general manager before retiring in 1987.

He enlisted in the Marine Corp. in 1942 and was a veteran of World War II. He was part of the 1st Marine Division and participated in several major island campaigns, including Guada Canal and Pelilu. In October 1945 he returned home to marry his first wife.

He was an avid golfer, amateur baseball player and Colts fan.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons and daughters-in-law John and Patricia Pitts of Kenmore, N.Y. and James and Kay Pitts of Edgewater; stepsons and daughters-in-law Paul and Mari Lynn Stalnaker of Myersville, Gregory and Christine Stalnaker and David and Gwenn Stalnaker, all of Jefferson; grandchildren Elizabeth Pitts Madonna, Michael Pitts, Anne Pitts, Matthew Pitts and John Pitts; and stepgrandchildren Shannon Stalnaker, Amy Stalnaker, Scott Stalnaker, Joshua Stalnaker and Jacob Stalnaker.

He was predeceased by sister Elizabeth Pitts.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Fletcher Funeral Home, 254 E. Main St., Westminster, with thrs of First United Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be private.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Change Inc., 115 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157; to Carroll Hospice, 95 Carroll St., Westminster, MD 21157; or to the charity of one's choice.

Bertha E. Villa, 79, of Halethorpe

Bertha Eleanor Villa, 79, of Halethorpe, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore.

Born Feb. 23, 1924, in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Bertha Richardson Woollen. She was the wife of Joseph C. Villa of Halethorpe, her husband of 48 years.

She had been a homemaker for most of her life.

She was a member of the Lady Elks of Glen Burnie and was an avid reader.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are daughter Toni L. Picker of Sykesville; grandchildren Jonathan Joseph Picker, Roger K. Picker and wife Toni M. and Danielle L. Prietz and husband Scott; and great-grandchild Zoe Elizabeth Picker.

She was predeceased by son William E. Burton; and sister Aileen MacIntyre.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Asserican Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.

Bernard H. Carter Jr., 59, of Reisterstown

Bernard H. Carter Jr., 59, of Reisterstown, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at Northwest Hospital Medical Center, Randallstown.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown, with the Rev. Roosevelt Oliver officiating.

Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Joseph 'Gramps' Forman, 83, of Union Bridge

Joseph "Gramps" Forman, 83, of Union Bridge, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C.

Born July 18, 1920, in New York, N.Y, he was the son of the late Philip and Rose Kaplan Forman. He was the husband of Mary Y. Foreman, who died March 21, 2003.

He was a U.S. Army captain and served during World War II.

He later worked for the U.S. government with the Civil Aeronautical Board. He later transferred to airport planning with the FAA and retired in 1976 after 33 years of service. He was co-founder of Fox Quarter Farm in Union Bridge and spent the last three years involved in day-to-day operations and running of the farm.

He was an active member of the Sandy Spring Lion's Club, where he was awarded the President's Lifetime Membership Award. His duties within the club included club photographecoordinator of the hospital equipment-lending program. He was also a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Mount Airy.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Susan and Ronald Purdum; and grandson R. Scott Purdum and girlfriend Victoria Roberson, all of Union Bridge; brother and sister-in-law Louis and Mimi Forman of Jericho, N.Y.; nieces and nephews Ellen Chaimovitch and husband Bernie, Jonathan Forman and wife Jan and Carol Goldberg and Gerald Kirschbaum.

He was preceded in death by sister Fannie Kirschbaum.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Calvary Lutheran Church, 16151 Old Frederick Road, Mount Airy, with his pastor, the Rev. Roger Rinkers, officiating. Interment will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Garrison Forest Veterans cemetery, Owings Mills.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy.

Memorial donations may be made to the Calvary United Methodist Church Building Fund, 16151 Old Frederick Road, Mount Airy, MD 21771.

Icie C. Holler, 77, of Catonsville

Icie Coffman Holler, 77, of Catonsville, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003.

She was the wife of Robert Doyal Holler, her husband of 58 years.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are sons and daughters-in-law Kenneth and Carolyn Holler, Donald and Deana Holler, Norman and Janet Holler and Terry and Liz Holler; daughter and son-in-law Arlene and Jerry Reyerson; and grandchildren Kimberly Wedderein and husband Michael, Jessica Hansell and husband Michael, Jason Holler, Nathan Reyerson, Justin Holler, Matthew Reyerson, Brian Holler, Ashley Holler, Christine Holler, Krista Holler; and great-grandchildren Alex Wedderein, Joshua Wedderein and Alexis Jacobs.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Catonsville United Methodist Church, 6 Melvin Ave., Catonsville. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 43025, Baltimore, MD 21236.

William R. Hopkin, 72, of Ellicott City

William Roger Hopkin, 72, of Ellicott City, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at Howard County General Hospital, Columbia.

Born Jan. 16, 1931, in Maryland, he was the son of the late Walter Roger and Mary Agnes Adam Hopkin.

He was a self-employed real estate broker and land developer for William R. Hopkin Realty and was in partnership with other family members and friends in The Copper Stallion Inn, The Oakwood Lodge and Mirrors and More. He also owned and operated the Howard Place in Ellicott City for many years.

He was a member of the Board of Realtors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking and spending time with hiing time with his family.

Surviving are brother and sister-in-law Charles V. and Patricia C. Hopkin of Glenwood; and sister and brother-in-law Mildred J. and Philip F. Restivo Sr. of Marriottsville; 12 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by brother Jay Hopkin.

A funeral service was held Thursday at the St. Louis Catholic Church Chapel, Clarksville. Interment will be private.

J. Lee Hummer, 93, of New Midway

J. Lee Hummer, 93, of New Midway, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at Frederick Memorial Hospital of cardiac arrest.

Born Dec. 6, 1910, near Detour, he was the son of the late Wilbur C. and Violet Ruth Flickinger Hummer. He was the husband of Lillian Trout Hummer, who died in 1992.

He was a member of Mt. Zion Haugh's Lutheran Church, Ladiesburg, where he had served as Sunday school superintendent, a lay reader and on the church council.

He had been employed as a truck driver for Western Maryland Sealtest Dairy in Detour and later at Condon Tobacco Co., which became Wachter Brothers Wholesalers, where he retired in 1982.

He was a member of AARP and enjoyed playing cards and watching Oriole baseball on television.

He had been a resident of Glade Valley Nursing Center for a year and a half.

Surviving are daughter Barbara L. Shade of New Midway; son and daughter-in-law Darrell T. and Marilyn Hummerchildren Jeff Shade of New Midway and Leeta Robinson and husband Larry of Great Capon, W.Va; two great-grandchildren; and friends Gary Smith Sr., Linda Null, Andy and Fred Highland.

He was predeceased by grandson Brent L. Shade in 1981; son-in-law Howard Vernon Shade in 1993; and great-grandson Zachary Robinson in 2000.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Haugh's Lutheran Church, Haugh's Church Road, Ladiesburg, with his pastor, the Rev. Richard P. Rutkauskas Jr., officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Hope cemetery, Woodsboro.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro.

William R. Valliant, 77, of Baltimore

William Robert Valliant, 77, of Baltimore, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Baltimore.

Born June 27, 1926, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Stephen Clifton and Helen Marie Valliant. He was the husband of Jean E. Parker Valliant, who died Sept. 4, 2003.

He had been a salesman been a salesman for Schmidt's B for Schmidt's Bakery for many years.

Surviving are daughters Catherine Marie Berman of Corpus Christi, Texas, LuAnn Crizer of Ellicott City and Diana "Dee" Frizzell of Reisterstown; son Timothy Arcilesi of Glen Burnie; brothers John F. Valliant and Martin C. Valliant; sister Helen G. Duncan; and grandchildren Gregory Berman, Adam Frizzell, Cheryl Parker, Vickie Crizer, Jason Frizzell, Kristin Crizer and Caleb Arcilesi.

A funeral service will be held at noon Monday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, with the Revsw. Patrick Tonry and Don Burgard officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Shirley H. Windsor, 78, of Westminster

Shirley H. Windsor, 78, of Westminster, died early Thursday morning, Dec. 18, 2003, at her home.

Born July 22, 1925, in Dundalk, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Daisy Henschen.

She was a graduate of Towson State College with a bachelor of science degree in education. She taught third grade in the Dundalk area and substituted for many years.

She was a member of St. John Catholic Church.

Surviving are daughter Linda Freeman of East Bend, N.C.; sons and daughters-in-law Robert and Sally Windsor of Towson, and Ted and Julie Windsor of Chicago, Ill.; daughter and son-in-law Jane and Bill Schroeder of Westminster; grellus and Zachary Freeman, Greg, Becky, Adrian, Julian and Lily Windsor, and Clare and Beth Schroeder.

She was predeceased by son-in-law Mac Freeman; and grandson Christopher Freeman.

A memorial Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster, with the Rev. Brian P. Nolan officiating. Interment will be private in Dulaney Valley cemetery, Timonium.

There will be no public visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Catholic Church Vision 2003, 43 Monroe St., Westminster, MD 21157, or to Carroll Hospice, 95 Carroll St., Westminster, MD 21157.

Arrangements are by Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster.

W. Gordon Craig, 92, of Owings Mills

Walter Gordon Craig, 92, of Owings Mills, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at the Westminster Nursing and Convalescent Center after an extended illness.

Born in Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Cyrus King and Norma Crisswell Craig. He was the husband of Doris A. Mormann Craig, his wife of 67 years.

He was a retired salesman for the Koontz Creamery. He was a longtime member of the Reisterstown Lions Club and belonged to the Westminster Elks.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter and son-in-law Doris and Jerry Landsman of Hampstead; grandchildren Jerry Landsman Jr., Richard and Robert Landsman; and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills. Interment will be in Lorraine Park cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
