Herman W. Eyler, 74, of Taneytown
Herman W. Eyler, 74, of Taneytown, died Sunday morning, Dec. 21, 2003, at Country Companions after an extended illness.
Born Jan. 15, 1929, in Union Bridge, he was the son of the late Herman M. and Olive Martha Weatherly Eyler. He was the husband of Mary Ellen Eyler, who died Jan. 10, 1995.
Before retiring, he worked at Southern States for 34 years and then worked at Belk.
He was a member of Emmanuel (Baust) United Church of Christ. He and his late wife were the sextons at Emmanuel (Baust) United Church of Christ and cemetery from 1954 until 1995.
He served in the Army from 1948 to 1951, and was a member of Hesson-Snider American Legion Post 120.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Bonnie L. and Joseph M. Morningstar of Taneytown; son and daughter-in-law William H. "Herbie" and Jennifer Eyler of Taneytown; sisters and brothers-in-law Jeanette and Bud Cartzendafner of Taneytown, and Betty and Fred Spielman of Frederick; grandson Joey Morningstar of Taneytown; and devoted friend Mary Farver of Taneytown.
He was predeceased by son Herman F. Eyler.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Emmanuel (Baust) United Church of Christ, 2950 Old Taneytown Road, Westminster, with his pastor, the Rev. Gerald Fuss, officiating. Interment will be in Baust Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Fletcher Funeral Home, 254 E. Main St., Westminster. He will like in state from 11 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the church.

John S. 'Jack' Hauf Jr., 68, of Ellicott City
John Scott "Jack" Hauf Jr., also known as "Pop Hawk," died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at Atlantic General Hospital.
Born Dec. 19, 1935, in New Jersey, he was the son of Edna Hauf of Berlin and the late John Scott Hauf Sr.
He was a graduate of Baltimore City College. He earned a degree from Albright College in Reading, Pa., in 1958.
He was employed by Pittsburgh Paints & Allstate Insurance in Baltimore and Howard counties.
He was past president of St. John's Swim Club in Ellicott City. He coached Little League for the Howard County Youth Program and the Christian Youth Association of Baltimore. He held membership in the Elks Club in Ocean City and the West Baltimore Sportsmans Club.
In 1970, he ran for county executive, number two on the ticket.
He enjoyed waterfowl watching, jet skiing, and attending his grandsons' baseball and football games. He enjoyed watching the Orioles.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are wife Patricia Hauf of Sykesville; sons John Scott Hauf Jr. of Sykesville, David K. Hauf of Westminster, Kurt A. Hauf of Westminster; daughter Mary Lee Diggs of Sykesville; stepchildren Joe and Linda; grandchildren Matthew, Jackson and J.S. "Scotty" Hauf IV, Shannon, Ritchie and Keith Diggs, Jamie Lee, Christine and Caitlin; brothers Ken Abbruzzese of Mount Royal, N.J., and Fred Hauf.
A funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Ullrich Funeral Home, 10902 Ocean Gateway, Berlin, with the Rev. Gail Mansell officiating.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Joseph C. McCormick, 80, of Eldersburg, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Continuum Care of Sykesville.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Glen Haven Memorial Park, Glen Burnie.
There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are by Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, Sykesville.
M. Margaret Shryock, 83, of Taneytown
Mary Margaret Shryock, 83, of Taneytown, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at Long View Nursing Home in Manchester.
Born Jan. 10, 1920, in Emmitsburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert M. Burdner and Ella Grace Favorite Burdner. She was the wife of John A. Shryock, her husband of 60 years.
She had worked at the H. Borenstein sewing factory.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Taneytown, where she was a member of the sodality.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are daughters and sons-in-law Yvonne "Bonnie" and Donald Staub, and Patricia "Patty" Shryock-Smith and Michael Smith, all of Taneytown; sister Dolores Davis of Emmitsburg; brother-in-law Marlin Hankey of Estero, Fla.; sister-in-law Eva Burdner of Long Island, N.Y.; one niece; and three nephews.
She was predeceased by brother Joseph Burdner Sr.; and sister Roberta Hankey.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, with her pastor, the Rev. Martin E. Feild as the celebrant. Interment will be in Keysville Union cemetery, Keymar.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Skiles Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, where the rosary will be recited at 8:45 p.m.

Zeddie H. Bernhardt, 78, of Eldersburg
Zeddie Henry Bernhardt, 78, of Eldersburg, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at the Golden Age Guest Home in Sykesville.
Born Jan. 5, 1925, in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Bruno Henry and Edith Scheeler Bernhardt. He was the husband of Marie L. Bernhardt, who died Oct. 21, 2003.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He had been a draftsman for the W.R. Grace and DuPont companies.
Surviving are stepchildren Arthur Haeffner of Sykesville, Mary E. McCartin of Baltimore and Deborah Puskar of Sykesville; sister Edith Shillenn of Parkville; and six step-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
William K. Huffman Sr., 80, of New Windsor
William Kenneth Huffman Sr., 80, of New Windsor, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at his home after an extended illness.
Born Jan. 25, 1923, in Jeffersonton, Va., he was the son of the late John William and Magdalina Hitt Huffman. He was the husband of Doris W. Huffman, his wife of 61 years.
He resided in Arbutus for many years. He was owner-operator of an automotive garage, Huffman's Garage, in Catonsville for more than 30 years and then moved to Laurel.
He retired from the Chevy Chase Club in Chevy Chase, and in 1995 he and his wife moved to New Windsor with their daughter and her children.
He had a long, successful side career in the racing of stock cars, midgets and Corvettes, receiving numerous awards while setting records at East Coast tracks.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters W. Lee Moquin of Gaithersburg and Adreion L. Packer of New Windsor; sons William K. Huffman Jr. and friend Lillie of Culpeper, Va., and Charles D. Huffman and wife Nancy of Westminster; grandchildren Kelsie and Corey Packer, April, Kelly, Alison and Mike Moquin, Logan and Kaitlyn Huffman, Tammy Ogle and Kenny Huffman; six great- grandchildren; sister Margaret MacDonald of Marshall, Va.; brothers and sisters-in-law Joseph B. and Juanita Huffman of Glen Burnie and Duane S. and Jackie Huffman of Nokesville, Va.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Pat and Richard Marr of Avis, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one sister and two brothers.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Jan. 25, 2004, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor, with the Rev. John C. Morrill, chaplain of Carroll Hospice, officiating.
There will be no public visitation.

Joseph Edward McCue Jr., 89, of Reisterstown, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at FutureCare Old Court in Randallstown.

Bernice M. McEntee, 71, of New Windsor
Bernice Mary McEntee, 71, of New Windsor, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at St. Catherine's Nursing Center in Emmitsburg.
Born May 14, 1932, in Westfield, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Bernard V. and Catherine Rochford Allen. She was the wife of William T. McEntee.
She attended schools staffed by the Daughters of Charity. She entered the convent and graduated with a degree in Spanish from the College of St. Elizabeth in Morristown, N.J.
She taught for 18 years for the Sisters of Charity. She later accepted a position teaching Spanish at Randalls- town Senior High School in Baltimore County, where she met her husband.
She was very active in St. Joseph's Catholic Community, Eldersburg, as a RICA team leader, clerical assistant and eucharistic minister. She had been a hospice volunteer.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, is sister Rose Anne Pawluk of Bricktown, N.J.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at St. Joseph's Catholic Community, 915 Liberty Road, Eldersburg. Interment will be private.

Joan S. Tracey, 76, of Eldersburg
Joan S. Tracey, 76, of Eldersburg, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Towson.
Born Nov. 16, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Roland and Edna Hartley Hoge. She was the wife of the late George B. Tracey.
She had worked as a registered nurse in private practice.
She was an active member of the Baltimore Christian Woman Club and served as alumni president of the Philadelphia School of Nursing.
Surviving are sons John H. Tracey of Owings Mills and George B. Tracey III of Green Castle, Pa.; brother Howard Hoge; and grandchildren Kelly Lynn, Katherine Carter, John Carroll Barton and Charlotte Hill.
A graveside service and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Lake View Memorial Park, with the Rev. Barry Cureton officiating.

Lois Virginia Banes, 78, of Sykesville, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at Carroll County General Hospital, Westminster.
Born March 31, 1925, in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Fred Hoetzel and Myrtle Greinger Hoetzel. She was the wife of Philip Collison Banes.
She had been a homemaker for most of her life. Before her marriage, she had been a secretary with the Howard Uniform Co. and a switchboard operator with Mount Wilson Hospital.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, William Philip Banes of Sykesville; a daughter, Lynn Mazzaferro of near Pittsburgh, Pa.; a brother, Edwin Hoetzel of Purcellville, Va.; a sister, Jean Sheppard of Salisbury; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Siblings Willard Hoetzel, Virginia Dettmer and Mildred Triplett predeceased her.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Haight Funeral Home and Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, with the Rev. Don Burgard officiating. Interment will be in Wards Chapel cemetery, Marriottsville.
