Madge E. Boyer, 72, of Keymar

Madge Elaine Boyer, 72, of Keymar, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at the home of her daughter in Hanover, Pa., after an extended illness.

Born Nov. 11, 1930, in Detour, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Dayhoff and Gladys Albaugh Dayhoff. She was the wife of Harry Junior Boyer, who died in 2002.

She was a 1947 graduate of Elmer Wolfe High School.

She was a member of Middleburg United Methodist Church, and was named one of Maryland's Most Beautiful People in 1995.

She enjoyed bus trips, yard sales and playing the organ at nursing homes.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Bonnie Figgins and Michael Allen of Mount Pleasant, Beverly and Eugene Iser of Littlestown, Pa., and Beth and David Hughes of Hanover, Pa.; daughter Becky Stambaugh of Littlestown, Pa.; sons Bob Boyer of Taneytown and Danny Boyer of Union Bridge; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A brother, Donald A. Dayhoff, who died in 2000, predeceased her.

Interment services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick, with her pastor, the Rev. Charles Slaugh, officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro.

Walter L. Pawelski Sr., 55, of Manchester, Tenn.

Walter Lucas Pawelski Sr., 55, of Manchester, Tenn., died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at the Medical Center of Manchester, in Manchester, Tenn.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Finksburg.

There will be no public visitation.

The Myers Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, is handling funeral arrangements.

LaRue C. Naylor, 85, of Red Lion, Pa.

LaRue Caroline Naylor, 85, of Red Lion, Pa., died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Manor Care Dallastown in Dallastown, Pa.

Born April 5, 1918, in Westminster, she was the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Dora Groft. She was the wife of the late Paul A. Naylor.

She was a housewife. She belonged to Grace Bible Church in Manchester.

Surviving are daughters Sharleen Koons of Red Lion, Pa., Joyce L. Bull of Fairfield, Pa., and Nadine Mann of Westminster; sons Barry Naylor of Hampstead, and Rodney Naylor and Brian Naylor, both of Westminster; sisters Elizabeth Ibex and Ruth Bowers, both of Westminster; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main St., Hampstead. Interment will be in New Lutheran cemetery, Manchester.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Viola L.E. Rhoton, 82, of Manchester

Viola Lou Emma Rhoton, 82, of Manchester, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at her home in Manchester.

Born Nov. 26, 1920, in Clinchport, Va., she was the daughter of the late Echol and Laura Dillon Smith. She was the wife of the late Leonard B. Rhoton.

She was a cup maker at Maryland Cup.

Surviving are daughters Janice Thompson of Columbus, Ohio, and Ida Hughes of Baltimore; sons Pearl Rhoton of Manchester and Carl Rhoton of Hanover, Pa.; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by sons Clay Rhoton and Leonard Rhoton, and daughter Laura Atkins.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main St., Hampstead. Interment will be in New Lutheran cemetery, Manchester.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Irvin R. Jacobs, 76, of Randallstown

Irvin Raymond Jacobs, 76, of Randallstown, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Northwest Hospital Center in Randallstown.

Born June 4, 1927, in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Worth L. and Mary Bessie Headley Jacobs. He was the husband of Jean Jacobs of Randallstown.

He had been a teacher and administrator with Baltimore County Public Schools.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son David Timothy Jacobs of Eldersburg, sons and daughters-in-law Jeffrey L. and Lori Jacobs of Phoenix, Ariz., John R. and Sheila Jacobs of Raleigh, N.C., G. Ben and Betty Lee Hoetzel Jacobs of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter and son-in-law Susan Jean and Steve Deeter of Las Vegas, Nev.; and six grandchildren.

He was predeceased by brother James Jacobs.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Haight Funeral Home and Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, with the Rev. Don Burgard officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Charleen G. Stripling, 84, of Sykesville

Charleen G. Stripling, 84, of Sykesville and formerly of Macon, Ga., died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Golden Age Guest Home, Sykesville.

Born Nov. 9, 1918, in Los Angeles, Calif., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mabel Summers Grater. She was the wife of the late Lawrence T. Stripling.

She had been an RN and had worked at Colliseum Park Hospital in Macon, Ga. for many years. She had attended Deerfield Senior Day Center.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law Charles Thomas "Tommy" and Teri Stripling of Rex, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law Ann Marie and Bruce Farmer of Sykesville; and grandchildren Adam and Morgan Farmer of Sykesville.

Services and interment will be private.

Betty S. Dotson, 74, of Sykesville

Betty Smith Dotson, 74, of Sykesville, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore.

Born Sept. 10, 1928, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Frank Otis Smith and Harriett Costley Smith. She was the wife of the late Rev. James G. Dotson.

She was a retired schoolteacher for the Carroll County Public School System.

She was a member of White Rock United Methodist Church in Sykesville, and was the church secretary and organist. She was president of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and was on the board of trustees for Carroll Community College.

She received an honorary doctorate degree conferred by the president of Carroll Community College.

Surviving are children Edna F. Dotson and Lionel O. Dotson, both of Sykesville.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at White Rock United Methodist Church, 6300 White Rock Road, Sykesville, with the Rev. Doris Ridgely of White Rock UMC, officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield.

Melanie F. Hamlin, 41, formerly of Westminster

Melanie Faith Hamlin, 41, of Jacobus, Pa., formerly of Westminster, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Manor Care in York, Pa.

Born Sept. 18, 1961, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Gerald L. Parrish Sr. and Suzanne Irey Parrish of Westminster. She was the wife of Kenley A. Hamlin II.

She was a 1979 graduate of Westminster High School and a 1981 graduate of Harcum Junior College and Essex Community College.

She was a physician's assistant practicing in Baltimore, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Albany, Ga. She and her husband lived in Albany, Ga., from 1966 to 2001.

She was a 10-year member of the Carroll County 4-H Club.

Surviving, in addition to her husband and parents, are daughter Courtney F. Hamlin of Jacobus, Pa.; brothers and sisters-in-law Gerald L. Parrish Jr. and Cheryl Parrish, and David P. and Michelle Parrish, all of Westminster; father-in-law Kenley A. Hamlin of West Virginia; sister-in-law and husband Mary Beth and Frank Meeks of Baltimore; mother-in-law Sandra B. Noble of Virginia; brother-in-law Lloyd D. Hamlin of New Jersey; two nephews; five nieces; one great-niece; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown, with the Rev. Bruce Fensterbush, of Christ United Methodist Church, Jacobus, Pa., officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Barry J. Hemler, 40, of Gaithersburg

Barry Joseph Hemler, 40, of Gaithersburg, formerly of Hanover, Pa., died Sunday morning, June 15, 2003, at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Born November 10, 1962, he was the son of George W. Hemler and Manuela Ramirez Hemler of Hanover, Pa. He was the husband of Cynthia Seidl Hemler, his wife of five years.

He graduated from South Western High School in Hanover, Pa., with the Class of 1980. He earned a B.S. in science from Pennsylvania State University in 1985. He received his certificate as a certified asbestos contractor/supervisor, inspector/management planner from the EPA.

He was employed by the Montgomery County Public Schools in Rockville and was serving as the environmental safety coordinator. From November 1985 to May 1991 he was employed as an industrial hygienist III for the Occupational Medical Center in Lanham. He was an author and co-author of four publications concerning environmental topics.

He was a keynote speaker on environmental issues at several conferences in the Baltimore/Washington areas. He served on the Indoor Air Quality Committee of the Washington Area Council of Governments and was the recipient of the EPA's Indoor Air Quality Excellence Award.

He was affiliated with the American Industrial Hygiene Association, the AIHA Indoor Environmental Quality Subcommittee and he was the President-elect of the AIHA Potomac Section, having already served as the treasurer for several years.

He attended St. Martin's Catholic Church, Gaithersburg.

Surviving, in addition to his wife and parents, are stepsons Jeremy Johnson of Columbia and Chad Johnson of Manitowoc, Wis.; brothers Stan Hemler of New Cumberland, Pa., and Stephen Hemler and William S. Hemler, both of Lancaster; sisters Yolanda Livelsberger and Sharon Klunk, both of Hanover, Pa.; two granddaughters; and nieces and nephews.

Brothers William C. Hemler and George C. Hemler preceded him in death.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Basilica, 30 Basilica Dr., Hanover, Pa. Interment will be at Conewago Chapel cemetery, Hanover, Pa., with the Rev. Lawrence J. McNeil as celebrant.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover, Pa., with a recitation of the Rosary at 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Basilica, 30 Basilica Dr., Hanover, PA 17331.

Evelyn L. Pool, 83, of Hanover, Pa.

Evelyn Louise Pool, 83, of Hanover, Pa., died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at the York Hospital.

Born July 3, 1919, in Finksburg, she was the daughter of the late Harry Clifton Williams and Aida Parrish Williams. She was the wife of Norman LeRoy Pool, who died in 1996.

She was a homemaker. She enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Barts Centenary United Methodist Church in Littlestown, Pa.

Surviving are children Peyton Pool Sr. of Hanover, Pa., Diane Dailey of White Marsh, Bernice Dye of Hanover, Pa., Desiree Cooper of Middle River and Deborah Misotti of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster. Interment will be in Dulaney Valley cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 200 E. Joppa Road, Towson, MD 21286.

Irvin W. Williams Jr., 75, of Westminster

Irvin W. Williams Jr., 75, of Westminster, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at his home.

Born March 9, 1928, in Roland Park, he was the oldest of eight sons born to the late Irvin W. Williams Sr. and Gladys C. Deaver Williams. He was the husband of Jacobine Helene Buchkremer Williams, his wife of 32 years.

He had been a member of the St. Peter Claver Parish since childhood. He had attended pubic school in Baltimore City and joined the Navy at age 18.

He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years of service.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons Donald, Marlin, Steven and his wife; brothers Vernon, Ronald, Iglehart, Michael, Lawrence, Sarsfield and their wives; half-brother Wesley; half-sisters Jean and Gail; brother-in-law Alfred and wife Helga; nephew Rolf and his wife Kirsten of Germany; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A son, Jeffrey Williams; and a brother, Donald K. Williams, predeceased him.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, 1212 West Old Liberty Road, Winfield, with the Rev. Quay Rich, from the Huntingdon Baptist Church, Baltimore, officiating. Interment will be in Garrison Forest Veterans cemetery.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
