Robert R. Banaszewski, 37, of Hampstead

Robert Raymond "Bob" Banaszewski, 37, of Hampstead, died Monday, June 16, 2003, in Baltimore.

Born May 2, 1966, in Baltimore, he was the son of Robert F. Banaszewski of Hampstead and Annie Peyton Finley of Hanover, Pa.

Surviving, in addition to his mother and father, are daughter Lindsay M. Banaszewski of Hampstead; brother Michael D. Banaszewski of Stevensville; stepmother Eileen N. Banaszewski of Hampstead; and grandfather Theodore J. Banaszewski of Hampstead.

A funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at the Eline Funeral Home, 934 South Main St., Hampstead. Interment will be in Oak Lawn cemetery, Baltimore.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Catholic Church Building Fund, 43 Monroe St., Westminster, MD, 21157.

Catherine Scott Carter, 87, of Hampstead

Catherine Scott Carter, 87, of Hampstead, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Look About Manor in Westminster of natural causes.

Born Dec. 6, 1915, in Caldwell, Texas, she was the wife of the late Kenneth Carter.

She received her B.S. from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in 1936. She had retired as a science teacher in Indian Head. She enjoyed reading, card playing, doing crossword puzzles and painting. She was a member of the Indian Head United Methodist Church.

Surviving is son Kenneth Carter Jr.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.

Arrangements are by the John M. Taylor Funeral Home Inc., 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis.

Melanie F. Hamlin, 41, formerly of Westminster

Melanie Faith Hamlin, 41, of Jacobus, Pa., formerly of Westminster, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Manor Care in York, Pa., after an eight year battle with breast cancer.

Born Sept. 18, 1961, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Gerald L. Parrish Sr. and Suzanne Irey Parrish of Westminster. She was the wife of Kenley A. Hamlin II.

She was a 1979 graduate of Westminster High School and a 1981 graduate of Harcum Junior College and Essex Community College. She was a 10-year member of Carroll County 4H. She enjoyed sewing, working with animals, the beach, collecting Precious Moments and her family.

She was a physician's assistant practicing in Baltimore, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Albany, Ga. She and her husband lived in Albany, Ga., from 1996 to 2001.

Surviving, in addition to her husband and parents, are daughter Courtney F. Hamlin of Jacobus, Pa.; brothers and sisters-in-law Gerald L. Parrish Jr. and Cheryl Parrish, and David P. and Michelle Parrish, all of Westminster; father-in-law Kenley A. Hamlin of West Virginia; sister-in-law and husband Mary Beth and Frank Meeks of Baltimore; mother-in-law Sandra B. Noble of Virginia; brother-in-law Lloyd D. Hamlin of New Jersey; two nephews; five nieces; one great-niece; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown, with the Rev. Bruce Fensterbush, of Christ United Methodist Church, Jacobus, Pa., officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 8219 Town Center Drive, P.O. Box 43025, Baltimore, MD 21236-0025.

C. William Larkins Sr. , 70, formerly of Owings Mills

C. William "Bill" Larkins Sr., 70, of Pasadena, formerly of Owings Mills, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at his home.

Born May 29, 1933, in Owings Mills, he was the son of the late Maurice D. and Sarah J. Larkins. He was the husband of Leila E. Smith of Pasadena.

He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a 1952 graduate of Franklin High School and had been a supervisor and truck driver for the Coca Cola Company. He was a member of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Antique Truck Club of America and the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons Charles W. Larkins Jr. of Owings Mills and Christopher W. Larkins of Reisterstown; stepdaughters Darlene Geise of Richmond, Va. and Kim Hubbard of Cambridge; five grandsons; and two granddaughters.

He was predeceased by brother Maurice D. Larkins Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown, with the Rev. Don Holman officiating. Interment will be in Druid Ridge cemetery, Pikesville.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Katherine M. Pickett, 89, of Mount Airy

Katherine M. "Kitty" Pickett, 89, of Mount Airy, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at her home.

Born Feb. 9, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Ardell Hood and Archley R. Molesworth. She was the wife of Clarence Edwin Pickett, who died in February 1976.

She was a graduate of Mount Airy High School and Blue Ridge College in New Windsor. From 1935 to 1940 she worked in the office of County Agent Henry Shoemaker in Frederick. After marrying in October 1940, she and her husband moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked at the Community Chest for five years. She then returned to Poplar Springs, Mount Airy, and worked as a secretary to the principals at the Lisbon School in Howard County until she retired in 1979.

Surviving are daughter Emily Pickett Miller of Burtonsville; son and daughter-in-law Edwin G. and Nancy J. Pickett of Aubrey, Texas; sister Frances Molesworth Bartlett of Westminster; grandchildren Karen Pickett Thompson, Matthew K. Miller of Colo., Chris K. Miller of N.Y., E. Andrew Pickett and Allison V. Pickett, both of Texas; great-grandson Drew Thompson of Texas; and grandson-in-law Daniel Thompson of Texas.

She was preceded in death by brother Raymond Molesworth; and sisters Olive Mary Molesworth and Helen Molesworth Glaze.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Poplar Springs United Methodist Church, 915 E. Watersville Road, Poplar Springs. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Olin Molesworth Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the newly established Katherine M. Pickett Scholarship Fund for the youth of the Poplar Springs United Methodist Church, c/o 1878 Rt. 94, Woodbine, MD 21797.

Smith A. Eckenrode, 89, of Westminster

Smith Anthony "Smitty" Eckenrode, 89, of Westminster, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Carroll County General Hospital.

Born Jan. 23, 1914, in Westminster, he was the son of the late Edward C. and Sidney Smith Eckenrode. He was the husband of Edith Simmons Eckenrode, who died in 1986.

He was a retired insurance broker until shortly before his death. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church.

Surviving are daughters Doris A. Eckenrode of Westminster and Doretha M. Corbitt of Mount Airy; daughters and sons-in-law Arlene and Paul Phillips of Frederick, Carolyn I. and Jerry Strasbaugh of Oakton, Va., Toni A. and Rob Doan of Union Bridge and JoAnn and Ted Zaleski of Westminster; sister Jane Eckenrode Moore of Westminster; sister-in-law Betty Yingling of Westminster; friend Jean Sealover of Westminster; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven nieces and one nephew.

He was predeceased by brother Edward Eckenrode; a grandson; and a nephew.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster, with Monsignor Arthur Valenzano officiating. Interment will be in Hampstead cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster. A Christian wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the St. John cemetery Fund.

Betty L. Sarchiapone, 72, of Manchester

Betty Lee Sarchiapone, 72, of Manchester, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at her home.

Born Jan. 1, 1931, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Ervin McKinley and Estella Mae Benton Hudson. She was the wife of Frank Sarchiapone, her husband of 55 years.

She was a housewife.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are children Frank Sarchiapone of Anne Arundel County, Sharon Sarchiapone and Vincent Sarchiapone, both of Arbutus, Alfred Sarchiapone and Catherine Spicer, both of Manchester, Rosalinda Abbott of Deal Island, Anthony and Joseph Sarchiapone, both of Laurel, Dominic Sarchiapone of Westminster, and Angela Sarchiapone of the Eastern Shore; sisters Peggy Shrieves of Joppa, Linda Geers of Manchester; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by brother Robert Hudson.

A requiem Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church, Manchester, with the Rev. Michael Roach as the celebrant. Interment will be in New Cathedral cemetery in Baltimore.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester.

Katharine E. Zincon, 88, of York, Pa.

Katharine Elizabeth Zincon, 88, of York, Pa., died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Manor Care Kingston Nursing Home in York, Pa.

Born Feb. 12, 1915, in Westminster, she was the daughter of the late John Daniel and Nancy Elizabeth Zincon.

She was a beautician and managed a shop in the North Gate Center in York, Pa.

Surviving are brother and sister-in-law Clayton and Leta Zincon of Westminster.

She was predeceased by brothers Howard Zincon and Charles Zincon; and sisters Ruth Zook, Susie Hesson and Mabel Henisse.

The funeral service will be private with no visitation.

Arrangements are by the Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 East Market St., York, Pa.

Grace G. Avery, 76, of Mount Airy

Grace Greer Avery, 76, of Mount Airy, formerly of New Canaan, Conn., died Friday, June 27, 2003, at her home.

Born Sept. 13, 1926, in Scranton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Marshall and Elizabeth Brooks Greer. She was the wife of Bruce Hunt Avery Sr.

She was a retired psychotherapist and owned Raccoon Ridge Farm, where she and her husband raised llamas.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are children Frederick Richards of Trumbull, Conn., Christopher Richards of Falmouth, Mass., and Elly Richards of Taos, N.M.; stepchildren Lorraine Dammen and Jennifer Avery, both of Norwalk, Conn., and Bruce Avery Jr. of New London, Conn.; and grandchildren Matthew, Gracie, Michael and Brooke Richards and Austin Everett.

Services will be private.

Arrangements are by Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield.

Stella Dye, 92, of Woodbine

Stella Dye, 92, of Woodbine, died Friday, June 27, 2003, at Northwest Hospital Center, Randallstown.

Born Sept. 14, 1910, in Kingston, Raleigh County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Silas I. and Margaret Cullop Dye.

She was a homemaker.

Surviving are sister Virginia Rowland; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by sons LeFaine and Robert Pipes; and siblings King and Bryson Dye.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, with the Rev. William Stevens officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Anthony J. Green, 21, of Sykesville

Anthony Joseph Green, 21, of Sykesville, died suddenly Friday, June 27, 2003.

Born Aug. 18, 1981, in Howard County, he was the son of Eugene J. and Marie L. Hoffman Green of Sykesville.

He worked in electronics sales for Toys R Us in Catonsville. He was a 1999 graduate of Liberty High School and a current student at Carroll Community College.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are brother Chris N. Green of Sykesville; sister Alicia Green of Sykesville; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. Interment will be in Old. St. Joseph Church cemetery, Sykesville.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
