Alvin G. Dutterer Jr., 91, formerly of Silver Run

Alvin G. Dutterer Jr., 91, formerly of Silver Run, died Monday evening, Dec. 22, 2003, at Lorien Nursing Home in Columbia.

Born Dec. 2, 1912, in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Alvin G. Dutterer Sr. and Ada Bowersox Dutterer. He was the husband of Margaret Harman Dutterer, who died in 1994.

He was a graduate of Charles Carroll High School.

He had been a farmer.

He had been a life member of St. Mary's United Church of Christ, Silver Run.

He was a past president of both the Silver Run-Union Mills Lions Club and the Littlestown Protection Mutual Fire Insurance Co., and he was a member of the Westminster Barbershop Chorus.

Surviving are a son, Myron A. Dutterer of Columbia; brothers Stanley Dutterer of New Oxford, Pa., and Merwyn Dutterer of Westminster; sisters Bertha Shankland of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Emma Horner of Hanover, Pa.; and grandchildren Lauren Dutterer of Kaysville, Utah, and Clark Dutterer of Havre de Grace.

A sister, Edna Plunkert; and brothers Harry, John, Ralph and Sterling Dutterer predeceased him.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's United Church of Christ, Silver Run, with his pastor, the Rev. Richard W. Scott, officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Silver Run.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Little's Funeral Home, 34 Maple Ave., Littlestown, Pa. There will be no visitation at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's United Church of Christ, 1441 E. Mayberry Road, Westminster, MD 21158.

Joseph E. Kreft Sr., 76, of Finksburg

Joseph Edward Kreft Sr., 76, of Finksburg, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at St. Martin's Home in Catonsville, after complications from heart surgery.

Born July 14, 1927, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John A. Kreft Sr. and Lucy B. Kreft. He was the husband of Elizabeth A. Hartlaub Kreft, his wife of 50 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He lived in Finksburg for many years.

He retired from the General Electric Co. after 34 years as a sales representative. He also owned an engraving business for 45 years.

He enjoyed family gatherings and working in his woodshop.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons Joseph E. Kreft Jr. of Westminster, Stephen J. Kreft of Hampstead and Timothy M. Kreft and Christopher T. Kreft, both of Finksburg; daughters Karen M. Johnson of Ocean City, Judith A. Teta of Westminster and M. Ellen Carter of Gettysburg, Pa.; grandchildren Cody Kreft, Jaclyn and Tyler Kreft, Michael and Marcy Kreft, Patrick and Andrew Johnson, Allison, Christopher, Joseph and Grace Teta, and Lucy, John, Henry and Mary Carter; a brother, John A. Kreft Jr. of Randallstown; and a sister, Laetitia, Little Sisters of the Poor, Louisville, Ky.

A brother, Robert A. Kreft Sr, predeceased him.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glyndon, with Monsignor Lloyd Aiken officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Finksburg.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Martin's Home, Little Sisters of the Poor, 601 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, MD 21228.

Robert V. Molesworth Sr., 69, of Robbins, N.C.

Robert Vernon Molesworth Sr., 69, of Robbins, N.C., died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at Moore Regional Hospital, in North Carolina.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service today at the funeral home.

Fridrick S. Piotrowski, 79, of Eldersburg

Fridrick S. Piotrowski, 79, of Eldersburg, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at his home from a brief illness.

Born June 26, 1924, in Poland, he was the son of the late Joseph Piotrowski and Michalina Topolska Piotrowski. He was the husband of Alicja Piotrowski, his wife of 52 years.

A Polish Navy veteran of World War II, he was trained in San Francisco and then stationed in England. After the war, he worked as a teacher and veterinarian in Poland. He later came to the United States and worked as a foreman for Burrell Belting in Skokie, Ill., until his retirement.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters and sons-in-law Barbara A. and Steven Urban, and Ann M. and John Vorderbrueggen, all of Marriottsville; grandchildren Nicole Rauser and husband Bryan, and Brian Vorderbrueggen and wife Heather, Alex Hafer, Alisa Sobchak and husband Rick, and Jackson Bakewell; and great-grandchildren Sydney and Sara Rauser, and Hannah and Olivia Sobchak.

A memorial Mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 915 Liberty Road, Sykesville, with the Rev. Patrick Tonry officiating. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home and Monument Company, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Hospice, 95 Carroll St., Westminster, MD 21157.

Alma M. Smith, 88, of Sykesville

Alma M. Stone Smith, 88, of Sykesville, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at University Hospital of Maryland, Baltimore.

Born Dec. 10, 1915, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Whitely Stone and Theresa Louise Zamanack Stone. She was the wife of the late John Joseph Smith Sr.

She was a homemaker and a member of Flohrville United Methodist Church, Sykesville.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, John J. Smith Jr. and Betty Smith of Mount Airy; daughters and sons-in-law JoAnn S. and Frederick Dreyer of Catonsville, Maria S. and Blake Haulsee of Winfield, and Joyce S. and William Lizor of Sykesville; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, with the Rev. Henry E. Ernst of Flohrville United Methodist Church in Sykesville officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Flohrville United Methodist Church, 6620 Church St., Sykesville, MD 21784.

Clarence 'Tom' Anderson, 79, of Mount Airy

Clarence "Tom" Anderson, 79, of Mount Airy, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at his home in Mount Airy.

Born April 30, 1924, in Arbutus, he was the son of the late Aleck Anderson and Bertha Feurherd Anderson. He was the husband of Fannie Mable Young Anderson, his wife of 55 years.

He co-owned and operated a service station in the Ridgeville area for a number of years. He was retired from King Pontiac Garage in Gaithersburg.

He was a member of Poplar Springs United Methodist Church, Prudence Lodge 190 AF & AM in Mount Airy, and the Salt Water Fisherman's Association.

He was a former member of the Mount Airy Chapter 95 Order of the Eastern Star.

He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons and wives Larry W. and Charlene Anderson, and Fred A. and Karen Anderson, all of Monrovia; a brother, Aleck Anderson Jr. of Littlestown, Pa.; sisters Irma Anderson and Nettie Potts, both of Hagerstown; grandchildren Richard, Daniel, and Amanda Anderson, all of Monrovia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers James, Robert and William Anderson.

A funeral service was held Dec. 17, at Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, Mount Airy, with the Revs. Wallace "Bud" Lusk and Charles Leger officiating. Interment was in Locust Grove cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, 13356 Glissans Mill Road, Mount Airy, MD 21771, or Poplar Springs United Methodist Church, 915 E. Watersville Road, Mount Airy, MD 21771.

Arrangements were by the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, Winfield.

Ralph E. Baker, 87, of Taneytown

Ralph E. Baker, 87, of Bridgeport Road, Taneytown died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, at his residence.

Funeral arrangements, with Skiles Funeral Home, Taneytown, are incomplete.

Hattie M. Bassnett, 88, of New Windsor

Hattie Mae Bassnett, 88, of New Windsor, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at Carroll Hospital Center.

Born April 24, 1915, in North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Henry Elliott and Lizzy Elliott Elliott. She was the wife of Arthur J. Bassnett, who died in 1994.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, New Windsor. She enjoyed all types of crafts.

Surviving are a niece, Lois Ward and her husband Dalton of North Carolina; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor, with her pastor, the Rev. Mary Kay Totty, officiating. Interment will be in Pipe Creek cemetery, near Linwood.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 250, New Windsor, MD 21776.

Mary R. Hundertmark, 72, of Westminster

Mary Rena Hundertmark, 72, of Westminster, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at the Carroll Lutheran Village Health Care Center.

Born July 22, 1931, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Geiser and Winifred Clark Geiser. She was the wife of Robert Lee Hundertmark Sr., who died in 1992.

She was a secretary for the state of Maryland.

She was a member of Wakefield Valley Bible Church.

Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law Stephen A. and Tracey Hundertmark of Ellicott City, Robert L. Hundertmark Jr. and Michelle Hundertmark of New Windsor, and Andrew W. and Courtney Hundertmark of Hanover, Pa.; a son, Keith W. Hundertmark of Westminster; and eight grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, with her pastor, the Rev. Fred Horner, officiating. Interment will be in Loudon Park cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ruth L. Koontz, of Westminster

Ruth Louise Koontz, of New Windsor, died suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at Carroll Hospital Center.

Born in Wakefield Valley, she was the daughter of the late Guy W. Babylon and Sarah Louise Graham Babylon. She was the wife of Charles M. Koontz, her husband of 63 years.

She was a graduate of New Windsor High School and later completed several business courses through LaSalle Correspondence School.

She and her husband owned and operated the East End Market, Westminster, with Russell Wineholt, for 10 years. She was also employed as a legal secretary for Donald C. Sponseller, state's attorney for Carroll County, and the law office of Sponseller and Hoff, Westminster, for many years until retirement in 1970.

She was an active member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Westminster, serving on several committees of the church, and was secretary to the consistory for several years.

She was a member and past matron of Door to Virtue Chapter 94, Order of Eastern Star, Westminster; a life member of the Carroll County General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary; a member of the Historical Society of Carroll County and the Carroll County Arts Council. She was a national master in the American Contract Bridge League and was active in the Westminster Duplicate Bridge Club. She was an active member of the Republican Party, a member of National Federation of Republican Women and the Maryland Women's Republican Association, and was an active member for many years of the Federated Republican Women's Club of Carroll County, having served as secretary to the club for many years; a member of the Tri-District Republican Club of Carroll County; and a charter member of the 2003 Republican National Committee. She served as chief Republican judge in the New Windsor district at elections.

She was a former member of Piney Branch Golf and Country Club, Hampstead, and was an active member of the 18 Hole Women's Golf Association. She was an avid bridge player in numerous groups and enjoyed playing golf.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a sister, Kathleen B. Buffington of Baltimore; a brother and sister-in-law, Graham and Mary Babylon of New Windsor; a niece, Donna R. Babylon of Westminster; a nephew, Guy G. Babylon and wife Kathy of Agoura, Calif.; and great-nephews Max and Ben Babylon.

She was predeceased by a brother, George E. Babylon, during World War II.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Bond and Green streets, Westminster, with the Rev. Terri Young, interim pastor, and the Rev. Fred Eckhardt, pastor emeritus of Grace Lutheran Church, Westminster, officiating. Private interment will be in St. Mary's United Church of Christ cemetery, Silver Run.

There will be no public visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Bond and Green Streets, Westminster, MD 21157; to the Ambulance Fund of New Windsor Volunteer Co., P.O. Box 247, New Windsor, MD 21776; or to Carroll Hospital Center, 200 Memorial Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
