Philip T. McCusker Sr., 82, of Pikesville, died Monday, May 31, 2004, at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 101 Church Lane, Pikesville, with the Rev. Raymond Chase officiating.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown.

Barry R. Scherer, 51, of Mount Airy

Barry Raymond Scherer, 51, of Mount Airy, died Monday, May 31, 2004, at Carroll Hospital Center, Westminster.

Born Oct. 19, 1952, in Baltimore, he was the son of Robert Raymond Scherer of Glen Arm and the late Mary Barry Scherer. He was the husband of Denise Ann Vidi Scherer.

He was a 1970 graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, Baltimore. After graduating, he went to work for the FBI, where he received training as a fingerprint technician. In 1975, he began working for the State of Maryland as a fingerprint technician and also as a police communications operator with the Maryland State Police, where he met his wife.

In 1984, he left the state police and began his career with the State Highway Administration Office of Real Estate.

He enjoyed camping, traveling and history.

Surviving, in addition to his wife and father, are daughters Nicole M. and Katie M. Scherer, both of Mount Airy; two sisters; one brother; a father-in-law, Nilo Vidi; and numerous in-laws; nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; and cousins.

A brother predeceased him.

A funeral liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, north of the intersection of Md. 26 and Md. 75, Libertytown, with the Rev. John Dietzenbach officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, where a Christian Wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Edna V. 'Dot' Unkart, 70, of Reisterstown

Edna Virginia "Dot" Unkart, 70, of Reisterstown, died Friday, May 28, 2004, at her home.

Born Aug. 30, 1933, in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Carvil Haines and Sadie Wheeler. She was the wife of August S. Unkart.

She had been a treater at Maryland Cup for 13 years and had also been a seamstress for the Hampstead Sewing Factory.

She was a member he was a member of the Reisterstown Church of the Brethren and the Reisterstown Moose Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are sons Gary L. Cole of Finksburg, Steve S. Unkart of Hampstead, Mark A. Unkart of Littlestown, Pa., and Robert E. Unkart of Reisterstown; a daughter, Dawn D. Unkart of Manchester; four brothers; two sisters; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A son, Edward E. Cole, predeceased her.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown, with the Rev. Shirley M. Barley officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Augustus C. Barnes, 82, of Winfield

Augustus C. Barnes, 82, of Winfield, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Lorien Nursing Home in Mount Airy.

Born April 14, 1922, in Winfield, he was the son of the late John Stem and Grace Pickett Barnes. He was the husband of Bernice Shipley Barnes, his wife of 62 years.

He was an inspector for Retail Credit Company and an appraiser for the State Department of Assessments. He was a lifetime charter member of the Westminster Elks 2277. He was a member of the Westminster Moose Lodge 1381 and a former charter and past member of the Taylorsville-Winfield Lions Club. He attended both Ebethodist Churches.

He enjoyed farming and gardening vegetables and tomatoes, some of which were purchased by the White House. He enjoyed spending winters in Florida.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons and daughters-in-law John S. and Gloria F. Barnes of Winfield and Jeffrey L. and Sylvia A. Barnes of Finksburg; brother Charles W. Barnes of Winfield; grandchildren Darren, Scott, Cindy, Matthew and Stephanie Barnes; seven great-grandchildren; and nephews Kenneth Seitz, Charles Barnes Jr., Douglass Seitz and Edward Seitz.

He was predeceased by sister Margaret Seitz; and brother Nicholas Barnes.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, with the Rev. Chris Gobrecht of Taylorsville United Methodist Church, Taylorsville, officiating. Inurnment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

Myrtle L. Cook, 64, of Owings Mills

Myrtle L. Cook, 64, of Owings Mills, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at the Northwest Hospital Center, Randallstown.

Born Oct. 27, 1939, in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lula Long.

She was a housewife.

Surviving are children Patsy Ann Thompson of Reisterstown, Helen Louise Cook of Baltimore, Brenda Lee Zimmermenda Lee Zimmerman of Reisterstown, Robert Lee Cook Jr. of Owings Mills, James Alan Cook of Reisterstown and Susan Rydan of Essex; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. today at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills. Interment will be private.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.

Sandra M. Ellenberger, 53, of Glenwood

Sandra Marie Ellenberger, 53, of Glenwood, died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Howard County General Hospital, Columbia.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.

Helen V. Pobletts, 81, formerly of Reisterstown

Helen Virginia Higgs Pobletts, 81, of Lady Lake, Fla., formerly of Reisterstown, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, in Lady Lake, Fla.

Born Feb. 8, 1923, in Woodlawn, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Cora Reeder Higgs. She was the wife of the late Sylvester Pobletts.

During her career, she had been on the nursing staff at Rosewood State Hospital and Mount Wilson Hospital, both in Owings Mills. She had resided in Orlando, Fla. and was on the nursing staff at a local hospital for several years.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Summerfield, Fla.

Surviving are daughter Helen Marie Freeman; two grandsons; and one granddaughter-in-law, all of South Carolina; sisters and brother-in-law Florence Cunningham, Sherry Nash, Arlene Tarbart and Carolyn and Joseph Marschall, all of Hampstead, Janice Kump of Reisterstown and Margie MacDonald of Gloucester, Mass.; brothers and sisters-in-law Warner and Harriet Higgs, Robert and Betty Higgs, Darius and Charlene Higgs, all of Reisterstown, and Karl and Mildred Higgs of Upperco.

She was predeceased by sister Marguerite Dietz; and brother Benjamin Higgs Jr.

A memorial service was held Saturday, May 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Reisterstown. Interment was private in Fort Myers, Fla.

Samuel N. Bankert, 89, of Hanover, Pa.

Samuel N. Bankert, 89,of Hanover, Pa., died Friday morning, July 30, 2004, at the Hanover Hospital.

Born Sept. 5, 1914, in West Manheim Township, Hanover, Pa., he was the son of the late Samuel P. and Maggie A. Wolfgang Bankert. He was the husband of the late Mary S. Jones Bankert, who died Dec. 28, 1995.

He owned his own business and was a developer and building contractor for more than 34 years.

He was a member of St. Paul's (Duh of Christ, Hanover, Pa., the Golden Age Sunday school class, a trustee of the St. Paul's (Dubs) Church cemetery, and deacon at the church. He was a life member of the Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire Company, a member of the York County Fireman's Association, York County Builders Association, the local AARP Chapter 669 and the national AARP.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law Charles S. and Verna M. Bankert of Hanover, Pa.; daughters and sons-in-laws Darlene L. Bankert, Dolores E. and Bernard L. Garrett, Sharon L. and Jeffrey W. Crites, all of Hanover, Pa.; grandchildren Diane E. Kline, Karen A. LeGore, Byron C. Bankert, Darryl L. Bankert, Brian S. Bankert, Jonathan D. Little, Shawn D. Garrett, Angela M. Fittery, Justin J. Crites, Joy L. Crites, and Janelle R. Crites; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sisters Beatrice Lookenbill of Spring Grove, Pa., Helen Brooks of Hanover, Pa.; and brother Lester G. Bankert of Hanover, Pa.

He was predeceased by sisters Hilda Landis, Treva Werner, Arlene Bigham, and brothers Henry W. Bankert and Paul P. Bankert.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's (Dubs) United Church of Christ, 1958 Dubs Church Road, Hanover, Pa., with his pastor, the Rev. Anthony P. Szilagyi, officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Hanover, Pa.

Jacqueline J. Fout, 45, of Manchester

Jacqueline J. Fout, 45, of Manchester, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at her home of natural causes.

Born Jan. 25, 1959, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Charles Harvilicz of Baltimore and the late Elizabeth Koontz-Harvilicz. She was the wife of Donald C. Fout Jr.

She was a bank teller and was active at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church.

Surviving, in addition to her husband and father, are children April, Wendy, Sarah and Amy Fout, all of Manchester; brothers and sisters Charles Harvilicz of Virginia, Michael Harvilicz of Florida, Carol Wingfield of North Carolina, Helena Harvilicz of California and David and Joseph Harvilicz, both of Baltimore.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bartholomew Church, 3071 Park Avenue, Manchester, with the Rev. Michael Roach as the celebrant. Interment will be in Meadowridge Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Monday at Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 3296 Charmil Drive, Manchester.

John W. Garrison, 70,arrison, 70, of Sykesville, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at his home from an extended illness.

Born Oct. 10, 1933, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Frank and Della Keller Garrison. He was the husband of Ruth Neal Garrison of Sykesville. They had been married for 50 years.

He was a retired forklift technician for McCall Handling. He was an Army veteran during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 224 in Sykesville. He enjoyed outdoor activities.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son John Allen Garrison of Hedgesville, W.Va.; daughter and son-in-law Bonnie and Robert Smith of Sykesville; brother William Garrison of Baltimore; sister Betsy Penn of Salisbury; and five grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, with the Rev. Don Wheatley officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park with military honors.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mildred K. 'Boo Boo' Jones, 75, of Westminster

Mildred K. "Boo Boo" Jones, 75, of Westminster, died Thursday morning, July 29, 2004, at her residence.

Born May 12, 1929, in Movin, N.C., she was the daughter of Polly Henson Phillips of Trenton, N.J., and the late George Phillips. She was the wife he was the wife of the late Victor Jones.

She was a retired dietician.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are a daughter and son-in-law, Nevonia D. and Gregg Butler of Washington, D.C.; grandchildren Tiffaney and Teneshia Williams, Keith Anderson, Jasmone and Marcus Williams, all of Westminster, and Sive Williams, Chynna Butler and Kareem Tucker, all of Washington, D.C.; sisters Ollie Little and Kate Miller, both of Trenton, N.J.; nine great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and a devoted friend, Lavern Greene of Washington, D.C.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Fletcher Funeral Home, 254 E. Main St., Westminster. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Fred Lieb Sr., 92, of Thurmont

Fred Lieb Sr., 92, of Thurmont, formerly of Keymar and Emmitsburg, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at his home of sudden kidney failure.

Born June 5, 1912, in Dettingen, Germany, he was the husband of Frieda Kaiser Lieb, whom he married Sept. 27, 1939.

He emigrated to the United States in 1914. After spending his youth on a farm in Carroll County, Iowa, he and his family moved to a farm near Keymar, where he was a dairy farmer until 1974.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children Myra Miller of Thurmont, John Lieb of Hanover, Pa., Linda Curl of Riedsville, Ga., Lore Knouse of Brimfield, Mass. and Fred Lieb Jr. of Westminster; 11 grandsons; one granddaughter; ten great-grandchildren; one niece; one nephew and cousins.

He was predeceased by daughter Loretta Reifsnider, who died Jan. 13, 1999, and sister Pauline Steffen.

A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Graceham Moravian Church, 8231-A Rocky Ridge Road, Thurmont. Private interment was in Keysville Union cemetery, Keymar.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Skiles Funeral Home in Taneytown.
