HARLEY W. STEMPLE
Harley W. Stemple, 70, Oakland, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Feb. 16, 1935, in Oakland, he was a son of the late Clarence G. and Elsie J. (Guthrie) Stemple. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Elwood Stemple, Charles Stemple, Robert Stemple, and Lawrence Stemple; and one grandson, Shawn M. Shannon.
He was a retired heavy equipment operator and truck driver for the Garrett County Roads Department, Oakland.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila D. (Conaway) Stemple; six daughters, Bonnie J. Harbourne, Oakland, Laura Ross, Hawkins, Texas, Tracy Ahern, Oakland, Cheri Davis, Kitzmiller, Ginger Lockmiller, Oakland, and Bridget Stemple, Oakland; four sons, Richard Stemple, Oakland, Michael Stemple, Hazelton, W.Va., Robert Bradshaw, Princess Anne, and an adopted son; five sisters, Helen Burns, New Wind-sor, Patricia Welch, Swanton, Betty Burns, Oakland, Margaret Nair, Florida, and Roseanne Tasker, Finksburg; one brother, Clarence Stemple, Oakland; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was held today, Thursday, Feb. 9, with the Rev. Barry Adkins officiating.
Interment was in the Walnut Bottom cemetery, Swanton.
DELBERT HOLLIDAY
Delbert Holliday, 79, Fort Hill, Pa., died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at Meyersdale Medical Center.
Born Sept. 29, 1926, in Addison Township, Pa., he was a son of the late Albert and Jeanette (Camp) Holliday. He was also preceded in death by two wives, Vilda (Nicholson) Holliday and Virginia (Sliger) Holliday; five brothers, Edgar, Sylvester, Frederick, James Herbert, and Freeman; and two sisters, Evelyn Pyle and Viola Blocher.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a lifetime member of the Confluence VFW Post 7250.
Surviving are eight children; former wife, Alice Novak, Florida; two sisters, Irene Hussey, Orange County, Calif., and Dorothy Sausman, Confluence, Pa.; 22 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Humbert Funeral Home, Confluence, where a service was held on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
Interment followed in the Silbaugh cemetery.
GENEVIEVE M. BITTINGER
Genevieve M. Bittinger, 78, Oakland, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born March 24, 1927, in Swanton, she was a daughter of the late Jesse J. and Edna M. (Friend) Bittinger. She was also preceded in death by her husband, McKinley R. Bittinger, in 1992; two sons, Denver Bittinger and Donald Bittinger; and one grandson.
She attended the Glendale Assembly of God Church and the Crellin Assembly of God Church. She was a retired custodian for the Garrett County Board of Education.
She is survived by two sons, David Bittinger, Swanton, and Zendil Bittinger Sr., Oakland; one sister, Alice Gaither, Oakland; two brothers, Selby Bittinger and Edmond Bittinger, both of Oakland; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was held on Thursday, Feb. 9, with the Rev. Gail Hixon officiating.
Interment was in the Bittinger Family cemetery, Swanton.
DENNIS R. SWARTZENTRUBER
Dennis “Denny” Ray Swartzentruber, 53, Swanton, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at his residence.
Born April 8, 1952, in Oakland, he was a son of the late Willard A. and Evelyn Elsie (Friend) Swartzentruber DelSignore.
Denny was a graduate of Southern High School and was an Army Vietnam War veteran. He was employed at CN Metals in Oakland, and had previously worked for DelSignore Coal Company.
Surviving are two brothers, Richard L. Swartzentruber and Nelson W. Swartzentruber, both of Greenwood, S.C.; two sisters, Marjorie L. Barnes of Virginia Beach, Va., and Starla K. Lee of Greenwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service was held today, Thursday, Feb. 9, at the Gortner Union Church, with the Rev. Steve Sauder officiating.
Interment was in Gortner Church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Gortner Union Church, P.O. Box 464, Oakland, MD 21550.

TONYA J.B. YANTZ
Tonya Jean (Broadwater) Yantz, 34, Cumberland, died by multiple stab wounds on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, in her apartment.
Born March 30, 1974, in Oakland, Tonya was a daughter of Gary and Virginia (Malcomb) Broadwater, Accident. She was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Broadwater; paternal grandparents Guy and Margie Broadwater; and maternal grandfather Darrell Malcomb.
Tonya was a homemaker and a certified nursing assistant. She received EKG and Phlebotomy certificates from Allegany College of Maryland. She was also a member of the West Penn PTA.
Tonya was a loving soccer mom.
In addition to her parents, Tonya is survived by two sons, Justin and Thomas Yantz, at home; one brother, Jeremiah "Jeb" Broadwater, Oakland; two sisters, Leslie Wamsley and husband Terry, Cumberland, and Nolla "Susie" Blake and husband Paul, Accident; maternal grandmother Ruth Johnson, Cumberland; aunts and uncle Linda Sue Uphold, Oakland, Janice Holtschneider, Cumberland, and Rick Malcomb, South Carolina.
Friends were received at her parents' home in Accident, where a service was conducted on Monday, Aug. 25, with the Rev. Daymond Schmuck officiating.
Interment was held in the Broadwater family cemetery, Accident.

KENNETH D. SHAFFER
Kenneth Dale "Fuzz" Shaffer, 67, Loch Lynn, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Oct. 15, 1940, in Crellin, he was a son of James K. Shaffer, Oakland, and the late Martha Jane (Bittinger) Shaffer.
Mr. Shaffer was retired from the Garrett County Roads Department. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Barbara (Martin) Shaffer; one daughter, Robin Story and husband Randy, Oakland; two brothers, James Shaffer, Oakland, and Alvin O'Haver, Loch Lynn; two sisters, Gloria J. Sisler, Crellin, and Jonna K. Frazee, Oakland; and two grandchildren, Hannah Storey and Madison Storey.
Friends were received at David A. Burdock Funeral, Oakland, where a service was conducted on Monday, Aug. 25, with the Rev. Ed Calhoun officiating.
He will be cremated following the service, with inurnment held in Pleasant Valley cemetery.
Memorials may be made in his name to the American Heart Association or the Southern High School Girls' Soccer Team.
ROBERT O. PAUGH
Robert O. Paugh, 77, Terra Alta, W.Va., died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Aug. 5, 1931, in Vindex, he was a son of the late Lester E. and Violet E. (Rohrbaugh) Paugh.
He was a retired truck driver for Shahan Lumber company. He was also an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church of Corinth, W.Va.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara E. (Thomas) Paugh; five children, Robert R. Paugh, Mtn. Lake Park, Sandra E. Valentine, Kingwood, W.Va., Abby A. Poling and Lester O. Paugh, both of Terra Alta, and Eugene D. Paugh, Elkins, W.Va.; one brother, Del Paugh, Oakland; three sisters, Lorraine Walters, Fort McCoy, Fla., Wilma Woods, Hortense, Ga., and Claudene Crookshanks, Aurora, W.Va.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was on Tuesday, Aug. 26, with Pastors Paul and Cathy Snyder officiating.
Interment followed in Terra Alta cemetery.
RANDY R. PAUGH
Randy Robert Paugh, 43, Swanton, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital in Oakland.
Born Oct. 26, 1964, in Oakland, he was a son of Sylvia Jean (Dixon) Paugh, Swanton, and the late Wade Paugh.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his companion, Tammy Yuzva, Kitzmiller; three brothers, William Paugh, Swanton, Albert Paugh, Deer Park, and Jerry Paugh, Oakland; and one half sister, Bobbie Roberson, Georgia.
Friends were received at David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, where a service was held on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
Interment followed in Deer Park cemetery.
EVELYN A. HARVEY
Evelyn Ada Harvey, 91, Newport News, Va., died on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at her home.
She was born in Gorman and lived in Newport News for 53 years.
She was employed as a substitute teacher at several local schools in Newport News from 1957 to 1970. She served as a volunteer with the Sarah Bonwell Hudgins Foundation in Hampton and delivered Meals On Wheels.
She was a member of Lee Hall Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Roy W. Harvey; two children, Stephen Harvey, Staunton, Va., and Kay Williams, Suffolk, Va.; one sister, Genevieve Kessel, Burke, Va.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at Weymouth Funeral Home, Newport News, where a service was held on Wednesday, Aug. 27.
Interment was held in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans cemetery, Suffolk.
The arrangements were made by Weymouth Funeral Home.
THOMAS E. SAVAGE
Thomas "Woody" Elwood Savage, 78, Oakland, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, in his residence.
Born July 28, 1930, in Sang Run, he was a son of the late Thomas Ward and Della Ann (Rodeheaver) Savage. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Juanita R. "Teed" (Friend) Savage; an infant daughter, Juanita Marie; three brothers, William, Ward, and Robert Savage; and one sister, Leota Ward.
Mr. Savage was a bridge foreman for the Garrett County Roads Department and a member of the Assembly of God.
He is survived by three sons, Dennis Savage and Eric D. Savage and wife Tracy, all of Oakland, and Steven Savage and wife Valerie, Swanton; three daughters, Connie L. Simmons and husband Dave, Mtn. Lake Park, Diane E. White and companion, Shawn Strawser, Oakland, and Teresa A. Hamilton, Swanton; two brothers, Samuel G. and Donald L. Savage, both of Oakland; two sisters, Della Jean Barillo and Martha Jane Lawton, both of Oakland; 11 grandchildren, Johni, Jaime, Jay, Josh, Stephanie, Jonathan, Kati, Chelsea, Lane, Brynn, and Kade; and 10 great-grandchildren, Zack, Olivia, Luke, Ian, Eli, Sophie, Jordyn, Justyn, Jimmy, and Colton; and a very special companion, Louise Peck.
At his request, his body was cremated.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. at Newman Funeral Home, Accident/McHenry, with Pastor Butch Glotfelty officiating.

SHERYL R. HUFFMAN
Sheryl Ruth Huffman, 64, Ellerslie, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at her residence.
Born Nov. 3, 1943, in Cumberland, she was a daughter of the late Porter Lawrence Runner and Madalyn Louise (Donahue) Runner.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Central Assembly of God Church. She was also a member of the Women's Ministry. She was chairperson and worked on the Bereavement Dinner Committee, assisted shut-ins, and participated in the Easter Egg Benefit.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Sonny L. Huffman; her daughters Valerie L. Abbott, New York, and Dierdre A. Shue, Oakland; one brother, James L. Runner, Fayetteville, N.C.; her twin sister, Sheila R. Bruck, Ellerslie; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Friends were received at Adams Family Funeral Home, Cumberland.
A funeral service was conducted at Central Assembly of God Church today, Thursday, Aug. 28, with the Rev. Larry Green and the Rev. Gene Cecil officiating.
A private interment was held in Madley cemetery.
