She was the spouse of the late Truman Lee Franklin.

She was born November 22, 1922 in Woodbine, MD

The daughter of the late Harry Francis Porter and the late Flossie Hood Porter.

She was retired from Hartz Manufacturing Company.

Surviving her are Daughter: Dorothy Franklin of Winfield, Son Eugene Franklin of Winfield, and Son and Daughter-in-law Ronnie and Paula Franklin Of Taneytown.

Sister : Louise German of Ellicott City Granddaughter: Sharon Benge of Westminster and Great grandchildren Crystal and Jesse Benge of Westminster.

Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday January 18, 2003 at 2:00 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784

Interment will be in Taylorsville cemetery, Taylorsville, MD

The Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday 2 to 4 and 7-9 PM

Elsie Matilda Close Will
79 of Winfield, MD
1923 - 2003

Died Friday January 3, 2003 at Carroll County General Hospital

She was the spouse of the late Charles Albert Will, Sr.

Mrs. Will was born July 9, 1923 in Baltimore, MD

She was the daughter of the late John Thomas Close and the late Elsie Rosalie Zepp Close.

She worked at Eldersburg Elementary School in food Service.

She was a Charter Member of Winfield Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

A member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Berrett, MD.

Surviving her are son : Charles A. Will Jr. of Winfield and son-in-laws Wayne Logue of Winfield and Kenny Stockdale of Woodbine. Grandchildren : Bonnie Lynn and Edward Stevens, Jr. of Westminster, Betsy Leigh and Joseph Crown of Westminster, MD, Becky Lou and Russell Logue-Ruckman of Winfield, Shawn Marie and Mike Franklin of Woodbine, Ronnie Wade and Patsy Will of Winfield, Robyn Joy and Scott Embrey of Mt. Airy, MD.

Great-grandchildren: Charlie Crown, Corey Franklin, Emileigh Crown, Kelsey Franklin, Lenny Logue Ruckman, Jaclyn Crown, Shelby Stevens Megan Embrey, Cody Stevens, Dalton Will, Carrie Embrey, Garret Will, Lane Logue-Ruckman.

Preceded in Death by Daughters Nancy Louise Stockdale and the late Darlene “ Peggy” Logue, and Sister the late Mary Alice Cook whom raised Mrs. Will and Daughter-in-law Virginia “Sissy” Will. Preceded in death by Brothers: Mervin Close, Luther Close, James and Ralph Close and Sister the Ethel Bell.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Monday, January 6, 2002 11:00 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 with the Rev. Elizabeth Senft of Messiah Lutheran Church officiating.

Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville, MD

The Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-9 PM with a Winfield Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary Service at 7:00 PM.

In Lieu of Flowers donation may be made to Winfield Volunteer Fire Company, 1320 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784

George Nelson Zumbrun
69, of Owings Mills, MD
1933 - 2003

George Nelson Zumbrun, age 69 of Owings Mills, Maryland, died Monday March 24, 2003 at University Hospital in Baltimore, MD.

He was the husband of Helen V. Zumbrun (nee Tracey).

He was born November 27, 1933 in Manchester, MD the son of the late Rock H.N. Zumbrun and the late Mary M. Zumbrun (nee Rill).

He was a retired Sgt. State Police served 1956-1986. He was in the United States Army from 1958-1964. He was a member of Granite Presbyterian Church in Woodstock, and a Life Member of Liberty Road Vol. Fire Co.; He also retired from The Rouse Company in 1996 as a Retail Security Officer. He was an Employee of the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home in Winfield.

Devoted father of Mary A. Mattison of Union Bridge, Tracie L. Green of Randallstown, George N. Zumbrun, Jr. of Randallstown, Jay P. Zumbrun of Hanover, PA and Mark N. Zumbrun of Jacksonville, FL.

Stepfather of Ronald James Spealman of Dundalk, Michael B. Spealman of PA and James E. Spealman of Manchester.

Dear Brother of Monzie Yingling of Manchester and William H. Zumbrun of Hampstead and the late John D. Zumbrun

Also survived by 14 grandchildren

Funeral Service will be held at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) on Friday March 28, 2003 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Margaret Ferguson of Granite Presbyterian Church in Granite officiating.

Interment Lake View Memorial Park

Hazel Anna Gartrell (nee Crawford), age 93, of Continuum Care, Sykesville, formerly of Westminster, MD died Wed. January 8, 2003, at Continuum Care in Sykesville,

She was born May 8, 1909 in Taylorsville, MD the daughter of the late William L. Crawford and the late Margaret H. Crawford (nee Franklin).

She was the wife of the late Floyd E. Gartrell who died February 20, 1969.

She worked at Jelless Department store as a sales person. Lived in Cottage City, MD till 1970 and then moved back to Carroll County.

Survived by great nephew William A. Crawford, Sr. of Gettysburg, PA, and great great nephew William A. Crawford Jr. of Gettysburg, PA

Also survived by 5 nieces and 6 nephews. Cousin Edith Skaggs of Cottage City, MD and 3 sisters in law Edith Gartrell of Mt.Airy, Arta Gartrell of New Windsor, and Ruby Louge of Mt. Airy.

Predeceased her was brothers the late Arthur and Carroll Crawford, nephew late William L. Crawford, late nieces Eileen and Margaret Crawford.

Funeral Service will be held Sat. January 11, 2003 at 12:00 noon at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD (Beside South Carroll High School) with the Rev. O.F. "Bud" Kibbe, Methodist clergy officiating.

Interment Taylorsville U.M. Church cemetery, Taylorsville, MD

She was born July 7, 1930 in Baltimore, MD the daughter of the late Marion Leroy Calp and the late Florence Turnbaugh Phillips

She was a homemaker

She was the wife of the late William A. Widerman, Sr.

Mother of William A. Widerman, Jr. of Clarksville, TN, Diane M. Robinson of Randallstown and David E. Widerman of Westminster.

Also survived by 4 brothers and 2 sisters and 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

One brother predeceased her.

Died Thursday May 1, 2003 at his home.

Born February 22, 1912 in Connellsville, PA the son of the late Horace Greeley Guynn, Sr. and the late Augusta Ruff Guynn. He was the husband of 57 years to Janice Harner Guynn

Mr. Guynn was a lumberman; farmer and he retired from General Motors in Baltimore in 1972. He attended Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Winfield, MD. He was an avid Hunter, Fisherman and Outdoorsman.

Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter Karen Krug and husband Dan of Lineboro, MD, Son Gary Guynn and wife Judy of Taneytown, MD, Son Richard Guynn and wife Susan of Frederick, MD and daughter Sharon Llera and husband Tony of Miami Lakes, FL 9 grandchildren Rachel Day, Jessica Jones, Sarah Guynn, Virginia Guynn-Alenskis, Jeremiah Guynn, Elizabeth Guynn, Tony Llera, Shannon Llera and step grandson Jeremy Krug; 3 Great-grandchildren and 2 step- great-grandchildren.
Sisters: Nell Midtgaard and June Betz both of Baltimore, brother Howard Guynn of Woodbine and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings; Augusta Cline, William, Don, Dan and Helen Guynn.

A Funeral Service will be held Monday May 5, 2003 11:00 AM at BURRIER-QUEEN FUNERAL HOME, 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784. with the Rev. Dr.Gayle Annis-Forder of Ebenezer UMC officiating.

Interment will be in Taylorsville UMC cemetery, Taylorsville, MD.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM

Irene Catherine Duvall Fritz
88, of Frederick, MD
1914 - 2002

Died, Wednesday March 19, 2003 at Citizens Nursing Home in Frederick.

She was the spouse of the late Harry B. Fritz.

Mrs. Fritz was born August 28, 1914 in Laytonsville, MD

The daughter of the late William W. Duvall and late Patty Everly Duvall.

She was a home cleaner.

A Life Member of Locust Grove Church of the Brethren.

She is survived by Son: William Fritz of New Market, Son: David and Wife Mattie of Virginia. Daughter: Elsie and her husband Harold Schultz of Frederick, MD.

Daughter: Mabel and her husband George Horton of Mt. Airy and Daughter Ann and her husband Jim Shearer of Mt. Pleasant.

Survived by and cared for by Grandson Billy Fritz, Jr. also by numerous other grandchildren.

Preceded in death by 4 Sons: Donald, Jimmy, Robert and John Fritz.

Funeral Services will take place Monday March 24, 2003 11:00 AM, with viewing from 10:00 AM until time of service, at Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, 13356 Glissans Mill Rd. Mt. Airy, MD 21771.

Interment will be in the Church cemetery.

The Family will receive friends on Sunday from 3-5 and 7-9 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD
