John A. Jacobs, 64, of Woodbine, MD died on Friday October 24, 2003 at his home.

He was born January 20, 1939 in Baltimore, MD, the son of the late John A. K. Jacobs and the late Thelma M. Jacobs (nee Dorsey).

He was a Postal Letter Carrier for the US Government for over 30 years. He was a member of Wesley Freedom U. M. Church in Sykesville, MD. Mr. Jacobs served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Sheridan R. Jacobs (nee Bowen); and children John R. Jacobs and his wife Gina of Hanover, PA; Linda D. Rowe and her husband William of Ellicott City; and Jacqueline M. Jacobs of Los Angeles, CA; and Eric W. Jacobs and his wife Ginny of Westminster. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; his sister and brother in law Janet and John Sraver of Hampstead, MD and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at Wesley Freedom U.M. Church 961 Johnsville Road, Sykesville, MD on Wednesday October 29, 2003at 10:30 AM with Rev. Richard McCullough of Wesley Freedom U. M. Church in Sykesville officiating,

Robert R. Buckman, Sr.
79, of Mt. Airy, MD
1924 - 2003

Mr. Robert R. (Bob) Buckman Sr., 79 of Mt. Airy, Md. Died Monday October 20, 2003at home after a brief battle with cancer. He was the husband of the late Hallie M. Rhinecker Buckman who died in 1983.Bob was born July 8, 1924 in Mt. Airy, Md. He was the son of the late Charles P. and Nora Maybelle Gilbert Buckman.

He served in the U.S.Army during World War II and was stationed in Germany.

He retired as a maintenance supervisor at Montgomery County Public Schools in 1986.

After retirement Bob designed and built his dream home on Jesse Smith road, where he spent time entertaining friends and family. He was a woodworker, hunter, liked to travel and built the only known musical water wheel. An avid musician he built instruments and loved to play his washtub bass.

He was a member of The American Legion Gold Star Post 191 in Mt. Airy, Moose Lodge 1582 in Brunswick, and Counties 4 Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10076 of Mt Airy.

Surviving is his fiancée and companion of 17 years Della L.Shives, . Also surviving are daughters, Linda B. Graham and husband Paul A. Graham of Union Bridge, MD..Lisa B. Head and husband Thomas O. Head of Loysville PA; sons Robert R. Buckman Jr. and companion Maryann Johnson, of Shepherdstown WV., Brian L. Buckman and wife Deborah of Mt. Airy, MD.; three sisters Elizabeth Harrison, , Mary Rimbey, Virginia Linton all of Mt. Airy; one brother Emmette Buckman and wife Jean of Baltimore;one sister in law Pauline Buckman of Mt. Airy.13 Grandchildern and 2 great grandchildren, Searra O. Head, Ashley G. Buckman, Layla Ann Buckman, Abrahm Lee Buckman, Hallie O. Head, Betsy Reinert and husband Brendon, Laura Cook and husband Scott, Jenny Roberts, Jessica Spitzer, Jackie Josten, Janet Josten, Eddie McMurtrie, Erin McMurtrie, Tyler Reinert, Dalton Reinert. Also surviving are Della Shives’ two daughters, Diana L. Josten and husband Tom of Burke VA and Kimberly A. McMurtrie and husband Brian of Boonsboro, MD. Also numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by, one sister Audrey Guassardo, and two brothers Ralph Buckman and Leo Buckman, one infant granddaughter Kelly Marie Buckman.

Friends and family may call Thursday October 23, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 Pm at BURRIER-QUEEN FUNERAL HOME 1212 W. OLD LIBERTY RD. WINFIELD, MARYLAND 21784 where a American Legion Memorial Service will take place at 7:30 PM.

Funeral Services will be conducted at Prospect United Methodist Church 5923 Woodville Rd. Mt. Airy, MD 21771 on Friday October 24 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Susan Boehl officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Pall Bearers will be Abrahm Buckman, Gilbert Buckman, Wesley Buckman, Steve Buckman, Jimmy Linton, and Mark Guassardo.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Prospect United Methodist Church, 5923 Woodville Road, Mt. Airy Md. 21771, or Hospice of Frederick County P.O. Box 1799, Frederick MD 21702.

Herman Filmore Costley, Sr.
75, of Sykesville, MD
1928 - 2003

Herman Filmore Costley, Sr., age 75, of Sykesville, died Monday August 25, 2003 at his home.

He was born May 29, 1928 in Woodbine, MD the son of the late George Costley and late Amanda Nugent Costley.

He was a self-employed mechanic. He was a member of White Rock U.M. Church in Sykesville.

Father of Herman F. Costley, Jr. of Sykesville and Edna Barnett of Sykesville.

Companion of Margaret King of Sykesville

Also survived by 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, MD (Beside South Carroll High School) on Friday August 25, 2003 at 7:00 PM with the Rev. Doris Ridgley of White Rock U.M. Church in Sykesville officiating.

Private Interment

Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home on Friday from 6-7 PM

1923 - 2003

Died Tuesday August 19, 2003 at his home in Pikesville.

He was the spouse of Jacqueline Snead Cox of Pikesville.

He was born September 1, 1923 in Pikesville, MD the son of the late Thorton N. Cox, Sr. and the late Dorothy Graham Cox. Before retiring Mr. Cox was Vice President of Concord Associates, a construction company. He was a member of Milford Mill United Methodist Church, a Member of Pikesville Kiwanis Club for over 57 years . He enjoyed Golf, Woodworking and working around his house and yard. Mr. Cox Served in the United States Army 407th Infantry Division in WWII receiving the Bronze Star Medal.

Surviving as well as his wife are Children Jacqueline Friedland, Barbara Bisset, Deborah Reiblich and T. Newell Cox, III. Brother of William T. Cox.

8 Grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.

Funeral Services will be held Friday August 22, 2003 11 :00 AM at Milford Mill United Methodist Church, 915 Milford Mill Rd. Pikesville, MD 21208. Interment will be in Druid Ridge cemetery, Pikesville, MD

Where the family will receive friends on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM

T. "Mr. Will" Wilfred Fleming, age 90, of Mt. Airy, died on Thursday August 21, 2003 at his home.

He was born April 19, 1913 in Howard County, Watersville, Maryland, where he was raised, the son of the late Harry B. Fleming, Sr. and the late Estella Elizabeth Fleming (nee Shoemaker) Smith.

He was a self-employed owner and operator of Fleming's Milk Transportation until Jan 1981. He was avid duckpin bowler at Mt. Airy Lanes for 58 years.

He was the husband of the late Lottie Virginia Fleming (Harrison).

He was the father of Laura Ann Brown of Mt. Airy and Nancy Louise Alder of Sykesville, MD

Dear brother of Nelson Leon Fleming of Hagerstown, Flora Richards of Mt. Airy, Walter J. Fleming of Monrovia, Harry B. Fleming, Jr. of Baltimore, Nellie M. Brown of Mt. Airy, Hannah E. Knill of Mt. Airy, and the late Gertrude A. Hulver, the late Shirley Dubel and the late Stanley Eugene Fleming.

Grandchildren: Thomas Esworthy of Lisbon, MD, Russell Brown of Williamsport, MD, Becky Brown and Richard Brown of Mt. Airy, Joyce Esworthy Kubu of Damascus, Eddie Alder of Sykesville and Jamie Alder of Sykesville

He was preceded in death by great grandson Thomas Brown, April 9, 2003.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday August 25, 2003 at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, MD (Beside South Carroll High School) at 11:00 AM with Rev. Wallace "Bud" Lusk officiating.

Interment will be in Pine Grove cemetery in Mt. Airy, MD.

Thomas Edward Wheeler, age 52, of Sykesville, died on Friday July 25, 2003.

He was born December 2, 1950 in Washington, D.C., the son of Helen Katherine Wheeler (nee Mahoney) of Rockville, MD and the late Frederick Wheeler, Jr.

He was a Driver for Giant Food. He was a member of Teamsters Local Union # 639, and was a member of the Harley Davidson Owners Group. He was many things to all of us who loved him.

He was the Beloved husband of Pauline M. Wheeler (nee Warchalowski)- of Sykesville

He was the father of Michele Wheeler of Delray Beach, FL., Gina Wheeler of Sykesville and Mallory Wheeler of Sykesville.

Dear brother of Frederick Wheeler III of Arnold, MD, Nancy Gagne of Rockville, MD and Michael Wheeler of Germantown, MD and the late Patricia McGucken.

Also survived by sister in law Paulette Earp and brother in law Russell Earp, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be on Wed. July 30, 2003 at Grace Episcopal Church, corner of Georgia Ave. and Grace Church Road, Silver Spring, MD at 10:00 A.M.

Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Rockville, MD

Douglas G. Webster, 87, of Sykesville formerly of The Borough of Carroll Valley, PA died Wednesday February 5, 2003 at home.

He was married for nearly 63 years to Irma Lucille Marriott Webster of Sykesville

Mr. Webster was born January 11, 1916 in Woodlawn, MD the son of the late Gurldy and Pearle Gore Webster.

Mr. Webster owned and Operated Webster Construction Company before retiring. In his retirement he worked as a Building Inspector for Carroll Valley.

Mr. Webster enjoyed Fishing, Hunting, Golfing and Collecting Antique Tools and Wooden Shafted Golf Clubs.

He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Beverly and Dale Ireland of Sykesville, Brother Stanley Webster of Charles Town, WV. Grandfather to Lisa Hall of Woodbine and the late Matt Shenton.

Also survived by 4 great-grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday February 12, 2003 11 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD. With the Rev. Lamar Kopp officiating.

Inurnment to follow at Mount Olive cemetery, Randallstown, MD

The Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.
