Glenn Thomas Pennington, Jr., age 54, of Mt. Airy, formerly of Gaithersburg, died Friday January 23, 2004 at his home.

He was born February 12, 1949 in Pulaski, VA, the son of Glenn Thomas Pennington, Sr. of Dublin, VA and the late Grace Virginia Pennington (nee Cox)

He was a Truck Driver for J.M. Dorsey. He was a bus driver for 15 years for Montgomery County Public Schools. He was in the Army during Vietnam.

He is survived by dearest love of 31 years Carole Lamb of Mt and her children; Irma & David Johnson & family of Woodbine, and Karen and Ricky Colson & Family of Mt. Airy.

Brother of Douglas Pennington of Bumpass, VA, Dickie Pennington of Dublin, VA, Larry Pennington of Dublin, VA, and Gilbert Pennington of Dublin, VA.

Also survived by 2 nieces and 4 nephews.

Funeral Service will be held Wednesday January 28, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, P.A., Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, with Rev. O.F. “Bud” Kibbe officiating.

Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park

Pallbearers will be Ricky Colson, Sr., Dave Johnson, Ricky Colson, Jr., Robert Colson, Bradley Colson and Brian Boone.

Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM

Contributions can be made to the Local Humane Society of choice.

78, of Mt. Airy, MD
1925 - 2004

Mrs. Edith Mae Simms (nee Thomas), 78 of Mt. Airy, Maryland died January 28, 2004 at Glade Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Walkersville, Maryland.

Edith was born May 25, 1925 in Fountain Mills, Frederick County, Maryland. She was the daughter of the late Elsie Monroe Zeigler and Late Mervin Thomas.

Edith was the wife of James A. Simms, Sr. of Mt. Airy They were married for 56 years. She was a housewife, enjoyed watching TV, reading and cooking. Member of Warren U.M. Church and Myra Grand Order of Eastern Star P.H.A. #62.

Surviving in addition to her husband are eight children, Ernest Thomas of Mt. Airy, MD, Elise Dorsey and husband Leon of New Windsor, MD, Nancy Myers and husband Raymond of Olney, MD, Mary Chaney and husband John of New Market, MD, Shelia Simms and friend Adlar Anderson of Germantown, MD, James Simms, II of Germantown, MD, Ernestine Simms-Kigh of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Shirley Simms of Mt. Airy, MD. One brother, Sterling Zeigler, one sister, Helen Dorsey. Also, she leaves to mourn are a host of dedicated and loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild, brothers’-in-law, sisters’-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Edith was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Burroughs and Madeline Zeigler; two brothers, Ulysses Zeigler and Douglas (Jim Boy) Williams; two daughters-in-law, Veronia Simms and Betty Thomas; and one son-in-law, Carvel Kigh; and one grand-son, Matthew Simms.

Family will receive friends on Monday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 PM. at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, P.A., 1212 West Old Liberty Road, Winfield, MD. Funeral services begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday February 3, 2004 at Calvary U.M. Church, 403 South Main Street, Mt. Airy, MD. Pastor Sharon Gibson will officiate. Interment will be at the Lake View Memorial Park, 2724 Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD.

Carl Weston Parker
84, of Frederick, MD
1919 - 2004

Carl Weston Parker, 84 of Frederick formerly of Rockville, MD, died Saturday February 14, 2004 at Citizens Nursing Home, Frederick MD.

He was the spouse of the late Eva Wohlforth Parker.

He was born October 26, 1919 in Morganton, NC the son of the late Duncan Shaw Parker and Marie Davis Parker

Mr. Parker was a retired Auto Glass Mechanic whom had worked for Enterprise Auto Glass. He was a Sgt in the US Army serving during WWII. Grew up in Washington, DC and raised his children in Rockville. Mr. Parker was a resident of the Odd Fellows Home in Frederick until its recent closing.

He is survived by Son and daughter-in-law Dennis and Maura Parker of Mt. Airy, Son and Daughter-in-law Gary and Anne Parker of Bridgewater, VT

Grandchildren: Josh Murray, Megan, Marissa, Daniel, Graham, and Jeremy Parker

The family will receive friends at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 on Monday February 16, 2004 from 11 AM till 12 Noon.

Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon at the funeral home on Monday with Fr. Leo Tittler officiating.

Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Rockville, MD

In Lieu of Flowers donations may be mad to St. John the Evangelist R.C Church 116 E. 2nd St. Frederick, MD 21701

Sharon Lynn Uhlig (nee Case), age 42, of Sykesville, died Thursday April 22, 2004, at Carroll Hospital Center, Westminster.

She was born October 11, 1961, Baltimore, MD, the daughter of Peggy A. Lowe (nee Buxbaum) of Lansdowne and Roy C. Case, Sr. of Florida.

She was a homemaker.

She was the wife of Kurt Uhlig of Sykesville

Loving Mother of Ariel A. Uhlig and Molly E. Uhlig.

Dear sister of Michael P. Case, Sr. of Severn, Pattie Ebright of Pasadena and Roy C. Case, Jr. of Annapolis.

Funeral Service will be held Tuesday April 27, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) with the Rev. Trent Owings of Lansdowne Christian Church officiating.

Interment Loudon Park cemetery.

1923 - 2004

Nellie F. Jones, 81, formerly of Middle River, Baltimore, died Saturday evening, April 17, 2004, at Chicora Medical Center, Chicora, Pa.

Born Feb. 7, 1923, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of Harvey Munshaur and Gertrude Lease. She was the wife of the late Edgar Smith Jr. and Francis Jones.

She was a graduate of Mount Airy High School, Mount Airy and was retired from the credit department of Montgomery Wards, Baltimore. She was an avid bowler. She was of the Protestant faith.

Through the years she had lived in Mount Airy, New Windsor, Lisbon and Middle River before moving to Chicora Medical Center in Chicora, Pa.

Surviving are son Wayne McArthur Smith of Mars, Pa., granddaughters Britta Manges and husband Brad and Marissa and Keira Smith, all of Mars, Pa.; sisters Dolly Dayhoff of Lisbon and Mary Josephine Coady of Frederick; brothers Kenneth Munshaur, Lawrence Munshaur and Alton Munshaur, all of New Windsor; daughter-in-law Sheila Cress Smith; sisters-in-law Jane Smith Beaver of Frederick, Lorraine Smith Ridgely and husband Charles of Mount Airy, Charlotte Smith Mullinix and husband Richard of Woodbine; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brother Carlton E. Munshaur.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, with the Rev. O.F. "Bud" Kibbe officiating. Interment will follow in Moreland Memorial Park, Baltimore.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Chicora Medical Center, 160 Medical Center Road, Chicora, PA 16025 or to the charity of one's choice.

He was a Night Watch Man for Rubber Millers

He was the husband of the late Ida Mabel (nee Lemmons) Connelly

Father of Del Gathagan of Winfield and Beverly Runnels of CA

Brother of the late Blanche and Fern Bush

Also survived by 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren

Friends will be received Wed. 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield.

The funeral will be 10:00 AM on Thursday April 15, 2004 at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home with Rev. Jo West.

Interment will be in Cedar Hill cemetery, Brooklyn, MD

She was born January 4, 1937 in Baltimore, MD the daughter of the late Jesse E. Miller and the late Rebella Miller.

She was a Restaurant Owner at Sears.

She was a member of Granite Presbyterian Church in Granite.

She was the wife of Thomas R. Blunt.

She was the mother of Deborah A. and Husband Timothy Groves of Eldersburg, Thomas D. and Wife Cindy Gress of Owings Mills, Susan and husband John Kruger, Jr. of Eldersburg and DaVina Gress of Atlanta, GA.

Dear sister of Margaret Baker and Elizabeth Day both of Perry Hall, MD

Also survived by 10 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.

Augustus C. Barnes, age 82, of Winfield, died Wednesday June 2, 2004 at Lorien Nursing Home in Mt. Airy, MD.

He was born April 14, 1922 in Winfield, MD the son of the late John Stem Barnes and the late Grace Pickett Barnes.

He was the husband of Bernice Shipley Barnes of Winfield for 62 years, which they loved to spend the winters in Florida.

He was an Inspector for Retail Credit Company and an Appraiser for the State Department of Assessments. He was a Lifetime Charter member of the Westminster Elks #2277. He was a member of the Westminster Moose Lodge #1381. He was a former charter and past member of the Taylorsville-Winfield Lions Club. He attended Ebenezer and Taylorsville U.M. Church’s. He enjoyed farming and gardening; vegetables and tomatoes, which his tomatoes reached the White House.

Devoted father of John S. & Gloria F. Barnes of Winfield and Jeffrey L. and Sylvia A. Barnes of Finksburg.

Dear brother of Charles W. Barnes of Winfield and the late Margaret Seitz and the late Nicholas Barnes.

Loving grandfather of 5 grandchildren; Darren, Scott, Cindy, Matthew and Stephanie Barnes.

Also survived by 7 great grandchildren.

Dear Uncle of 4 nephews; Kenneth Seitz, Charles Barnes, Jr., Douglass Seitz and Edward Seitz.

Memorial Service will be held Sunday June 6, 2004 at 3:00 P.M. at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) with the Rev. Chris Gobrecht of Taylorsville U.M. Church in Taylorsville officiating.

Private inurnment.
