Florence Mae Callahan, 78 of Mt. Airy formerly of Baltimore, died Thursday November 11, 2004 at Carroll Hospital Center.

She was born February 14 1926 in Baltimore, MD the daughter of the late Edward and Late Mae Stauffer Doll.

Ms. Callahan was a retired telephone operator for C&P Telephone, a Member of the Telephone Pioneers; she enjoyed crocheting doing crosswords and reading.

Surviving are Daughter and son-in-law Judith and Bernard Esposito of Mt. Airy, Son and Daughter-in-law Clifford and Virginia Callahan of Baltimore, Brother Donald Doll of Baltimore, 6 Grandchildren and 8 Great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by son: Darrell M. Callahan and Brother George Doll.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday November 13, 2004 at 6:00 PM at BURRIER-QUEEN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, P.A., 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784

George S. Helman
89, of Woodbine, MD
1915 - 2004

George S. Helman, age 89, of Woodbine, formerly of Pikesville, died Thursday November 18, 2004 at Ruxton of Pikesville Nursing Home, Pikesville, MD.

He was born March 8, 1915 in Hummelstown, PA the son of the late Ira Helman and the late Ida Sullivan Helman.

He was a Gas Station Attendant. He was a member of Granite Presbyterian Church in Woodstock.

He was the husband of the late Martha Leola “Mockie” Helman (nee Wilt).

Also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Service will be held Tuesday November 23, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Granite Presbyterian Church, 10637 Old Court Road, Woodstock, MD 21163 with the Rev. Janice (Jan) L. Trammell-Savin officiating.

Interment will be in Granite Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) on Monday 2-4 & 7-9 PM.

Lawrence Howard Martin, Jr.
73, of Westminster, MD
1931 - 2005

Lawrence Howard Martin, Jr., 73 of Westminster, MD died Tuesday March 8, 2005 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, MD. He was the spouse of 7years to Sharon Anne Brandt Martin.

He was born August 16, 1931 in Williamsburg, VA the son of the late Lawrence Howard Martin, Sr. and late Glenise Martin.

He was a retired Industrial Electrician with Tropicana and was currently employed with Carroll Installation. He served during the Korean War in the US Army. He was a member of American Legion Post 31 in Westminster, MD an Avid Sports Fan, Enjoyed working on computers and was a volunteer at the Carroll County Farm Museum.

Surviving are Son and Daughter: James Gregory Martin and Mary Martha Martin both of Wisconsin and Step-Children Gerald Duane and Kristy Michelle Kirk. 12 Grandchildren

Preceded in death by Brother Robert Tucker Martin.

Funeral Services will be Saturday March 12, 2005 11:00 AM at BURRIER-QUEEN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, P.A., 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday 5 to 9 PM.

In lieu of Flowers donations may be made to The Carroll County Farm Museum, 500 S. Center St. Westminster, MD 21157

Norman E. Etzler
94, of Mt. Airy, MD
1910 - 2005

Norman E. Etzler, age 94, Of Mt. Airy, Died Wednesday January 26, 2005 at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, MD.

He was born June 7, 1910 in Mt. Airy, MD, the son of the late Norman W. Etzler and the late Bessie Collins Etzler.

He was a retired manager for Mt. Airy Milling Co. He was a member of Calvary U.M. Church in Mt. Airy, MD, member of the Calvary U.M. Church Chancel Choir for 60 years and He taught Sunday School. and a Charter member of Prudence Lodge #190 in Mt. Airy for 70 years., Charter Member of Mt. Airy Lions Club and the last living charter member of Mt. Airy Vol. Fire Company. He was a Councilman from 1948-1952 and 1960-1964 and Mayor of Mt. Airy from 1954-1958, and inducted into the Mt. Airy Hall of Fame in 2000. He started the Mt. Airy Little League Baseball and he was responsible for the beginning of the Mt. Airy Library Service.

He was the husband of the late Dorothy R. Etzler (nee Roberts).

He was the father of Margaret (Peggy) E. Rodrigues of Mt. Airy and Norma Lee Dennis of Mt. Airy .

Also survived by 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held Monday January 31, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at Calvary U.M. Church, 403 South Main Street, Mt. Airy with the Revs. Dennis and Carol Yocum and Rev. Wallace “Bud” Lusk officiating.

Interment Pine Grove cemetery, Mt. Airy.

Friends may call at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) on Sunday from 2-4 & 7 –9 PM Prudence Lodge #190 Memorial Service 7:30 PM and the Mt. Airy Lions Club Service at 8:00 P.M.

Contributions can be made to Mt. Airy Vol. Fire Co. and or/ Calvary U.M. Church Chancel Choir.

She was born April 4, 1931 in Baltimore, MD the daughter of the late Frank Hensby and the late Myrtle G. Fisher Hensby.

She was a Homemaker She enjoyed gardening, animals, puzzles, painting and drawing.

She was the wife of the late Robert Meckley and the late Austin L. Rankin, Sr..

She was the mother of Austin L. Rankin, Jr. of Eldersburg, Vicky L. Strine of Marietta, S.C., Sharon Rankin Logue of New Windsor, MD., Robert L. Rankin of Eldersburg, Joseph L. Rankin of Baltimore, John L. Rankin of Westminster, and Frank L. Rankin of Westminster .

Sister of Jerome Hensby of Baltimore, Mary Rose Gosnell of West Friendship and Analee Davis of Parkersburg, West Virginia .

Also survived by 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held Thursday, January 13, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) with the Rev. Wallace A. (Bud) Lusk officiating.

Interment will be in Good Shepherd cemetery, Ellicott City, MD.

He was a farmer.

He was the husband of Dolly Virginia Brown (nee Riley).

He was the father of Charlotte Patterson of West Virginia, Morris B. Brown, Jr. of Westminster, Teresa Groff and Nancy Brown both of West Virginia and the late Christine Brown.

Brother of Linda Shifflett and Harold Brown both of West Virginia and the late Howard and Joseph Brown and Elenore Jordan .

Grandfather of Sarah Copoulos and Brian Copoulos both of West Virginia and Adam Haines of Maryland .

Great grandfather of Dylan Armour and the late Kyle Copoulos.

She was born July 14, 1951 in Frederick, MD the daughter of Margaret P. Bennett (nee Porter) and the late Russell C. Bennett.

She was the wife of Samuel Eugene Halterman.

She was a member of Jennings Chapel U.M. Church, Woodbine. She was a member of the Maryland and National Shorthorn Associations.

She was the mother of Cindy Lynn Halterman of Woodbine, and Russell Eugene Halterman of Woodbine.

Sister of Gerald and Ollie Bennett both of Woodbine.

Also survived by Special friends and caregivers Janice Bennett of Mt. Airy and Janice and Reds Campbell of Woodbine and Heidi Browning of Woodbine.

She was born April 18, 1943 in Frederick, MD the daughter of Emily Elizabeth Shoemaker Pearre and the late James Aubrey Pearre.

She was a Life Time Member of Lisbon Volunteer Fire Company, She also enjoyed Knitting, Sewing and Crocheting

Surviving her in addition to her mother are Brother and Sister-in-law Ron and Terri Pearre of Hanover, Former Sister-in-law Tammy Pearre of Westminster, 3 Nieces: Amy Henderson of Johnson City, TN, Amanda Pearre of Hanover, PA, Tessa Pearre of Westminster, MD 1 nephew: Ryan Pearre of Westminster 1 Great niece Kaitlyn Schisler of Littlestown, PA 2 Great Nephews: Steven Henderson of Johnson City, TN and Collin Nicolazzo of Hanover, PA

Funeral Services will be held Monday January 10, 2004 2:00 PM at BURRIER-QUEEN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, PA, 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 with the Rev. O.F. “Bud” Kibbe officiating. Interment will be in Morgan Chapel cemetery, Woodbine, MD
