She was the spouse of the late William Henry Knauff

She was born June 19, 1919 in Woodbine, MD the daughter of the late Shriver and Elizabeth Haines Pickett, Sr.

She was a nurse at Chapel Hill Nursing Home.

She is survived by Daughter and Special Friend: Linda Reed and Wayne Smallwood of Washington, DC. Grandchildren: Bonnie and husband Ricardo Porras of Sykesville, Tammy and husband Mike Tiffany of Sykesville. Great Grandchildren: Pamela, Janet, Stephanie, Heather, Ashley, Darrell, Rachel, Angela Maria, Jennifer and Stacy. Great-great grandchildren: Devin and Anthony.

Dearest Sister of Evelyn, Herschel, Lawrence, Verley, Junior, Roby and Levi.

Funeral Services will take place Friday June 13, 2003 11:00 AM at BURRIER-QUEEN FUNERAL HOME, 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD .

Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville, MD

The family will receive friends Thursday June 12, 2003 at the funeral home from 3-5 and 7-9 PM

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Bonnie Porras, 110 John Bennett Rd. Sykesville, MD 21784 to help defer the funeral expenses.

Elsie Cox Ballance, age 76, of Mt. Airy, Md., died Sat. October 18, 2003 at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, MD

She was born April 18, 1927 in New Holland, North Carolina the daughter of the late Otis Cox and the late Mary Cox (nee Selby).

She is survived by stepmother Lula Mae Cox of Belhaven, NC

She worked as a Time Keeper for Springfield State Hospital for 30 years
She was Past President of the Ladies of the Elks #2277 in Westminster; She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post 31 in Westminster

She was the wife of Talmadge B. Ballance of Mt. Airy of 55 years.

Mother of Kenneth B. and Pat Ballance of Baltimore, Vicki and Roland Deardorff of Mt. Airy.

Sister of Jimmy Cox of Belhaven, North Carolina, and the late Hyler Cox.

Grandmother of Steven and Katie Ballance of Baltimore and Bryan and Matt Deardorff of Mt. Airy

Funeral Service will be held Tuesday October 21, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, MD (Beside South Carroll High School) with the Rev. Fred P. Eckhardt officiating.

Interment Lake View Memorial Park

Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home on Monday 3-5 & 7-9 PM

Evan Thomas Moffitt
12, of Taylorsville, MD
1992 - 2004

Evan Thomas Moffitt, age 12, of Taylorsville, died Sunday May 16, 2004 at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD.

He was born February 11, 1992 in Gettysburg, PA, the loving son of Bill and Jamie Moffitt.

He was an Honor student at New Windsor Middle School; He played the drums in the school band; He was an Honor Student at Winfield Elementary School; He was a member of Manchester Baptist Church; He was a 5-year member of the Cub Scouts Pack#733; He played soccer and baseball for Winfield Recreation. He enjoyed roller-skating at the Magic Elm in Hanover, He loved to go to the beach, and he just learned how to snow Board. And he loved the Drag races.

Loving Grandson of Floyd and Joan Strock of McSherrystown, PA and Bill and Sue Moffitt of Westminster.

Dear nephew of Vicky and Don Patton of Taylorsville, Sam and Lisa Thoman of Hanover, PA, Sandy Orendorff and Kelly Strock both of McSherrystown, PA and Drake Strock of Austin, TX.

Funeral Service will be Thursday May 20, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) with the Pastor Tim Leaman of Calvary Baptist Church in Westminster officiating.

Interment will be in Manchester Baptist Church cemetery, Manchester, MD.

Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.

Everett Eugene Justice, Sr. of Woodbine, Maryland died Saturday June 21, 2003 at Washington Hospital Center.

He was the spouse of nearly 46 years to Nevada Barbara Smith Justice.

He was born April 5, 1925 in Woodbine, MD the son of the late Oscar Norman and late Effie Bell Greene Justice. Mr. Justice was a self-employed Carpenter and in more recent years he sold fresh produce and flowers. He was a Member of the Westminster Moose Lodge, and Four Counties VFW Post 10076 in Mt. Airy, MD

Surviving besides his wife is Daughter Darlene D. Claypoole of Mt. Airy, Grandchildren: Terri Lyn Claypoole of Mt. Airy, and Cheryle Hunt of Vista, CA Great-grandson: Ricky Claypoole of Mt. Airy and Special Nephew :Gary Redmond of Westminster. Also survived by numerous other close relatives. Preceded in death by son Everett Eugene Justice, Jr.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Wed June 25, 2003 at 11:00 Am at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 with the Rev. Roger L. Rinker of Calvary Lutheran Church located in Mt. Airy, Officiating.

Interment will be in Poplar Springs cemetery, Poplar Springs, MD

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday 7 to 9 Pm and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM

1916 - 2003

Died Monday July 21, 2003 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

She was the spouse of James Ernest Pickett

Mrs. Pickett was born December 4, 1916 in Linganore, Frederick County, MD. The daughter of the late Jessie Herman and Mary Condon Moxley

She was retired from the National Institute of Health after 20 years of Service as a Secretary.

She was Founder and Leader for over 25 years of the Prospect 4-H Club, Secretary for the Mt. Airy Community Reporter Newspaper, a MYF Counselor at West Falls Church, and Past President of Frederick County Homemakers.

She enjoyed Bowling, Quilting, Baking, and was a good Cook and Seamstress.

Dearest Mother of Janet L. and son-in-law the late James L. Barnes of Winfield, Joyce L. and Son-in-law Richard Gardner, Sr. of Dillsburg, PA.

Loving Sister of Arlene Tressler of Frederick, Meredith Moxley of Thurmont, the late Wilber, Mervin and Herbert Moxley, late Mary C. Snyder.

Preceded in death by former husband Foard E. Hood.

Also survived by 7 Grandchildren, 13 Great-grandchildren and 1 Great-grandson.

Funeral Services will be conducted Friday 10 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD (beside S. Carroll High School) with Rev. Stephen White.

Interment will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery, Frederick, MD.

The Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.

Francis Madison Pickett, Sr.
88, of Woodbine, MD
1915 - 2003

Francis " Frank" Madison Pickett, Sr., age 88, of Woodbine, died Friday June 20, 2003 at Continuum Care in Sykesville, MD.

He was born May 20, 1915 in Woodbine, MD the son of the late Beulah Pickett and the late Elsie Mae Chaney Pickett.

He was the husband of Dorothy Louise Criswell Pickett of Woodbine of 63 years.

He was a Retired Postmaster in Woodbine for the Federal Government for 26 years retired July 31, 1976. He was a self-employed Master plumber. Owned and Operated Southern States Store at Pickett's Corner. Member of Carroll County Gun Club, Mt. Airy Izaac Walton League of America (IWLA) and was an army veteran during WWII.

Children: Son and Daughter in law; Frank and Virginia Pickett of Woodbine, Daughters- Jean and Eddy Condon of Woodbine and Carol and Danny Ennis of Georgia.

Four Grandchildren; Karen Zimmerman, Sherry Jones, Denise Naill and Kyle Ennis.

Five great grandchildren, 2 nieces and 3 nephews.

Predeceased by sisters; Mabel Wike, Ruth Eyler and Hilda Barnes

Funeral Service will be held on Monday June 23, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) with the Rev. Arthur Monroe of Morgan Chapel U.M. Church in Woodbine officiating.

Interment will be in Morgan Chapel U.M. Church cemetery in Woodbine, MD

Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.

Pallbearers will be Eddy Condon, Danny Ennis, Bob Jones, Michael Zimmerman, Jonathan Naill, and Allen Barnes.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Kyle Ennis, Matt Ward and Zack Jones.

Frank Eugene Henry
82, of Baltimore, MD
1922 - 2004

Mr. Frank Eugene Henry, a retired assistant vice-president of Verizon, died on July 20th of heart disease. He was 82.

Mr. Henry was born and raised in Baltimore. After graduation from Forest Park High School, he went to work for C. & P. Telephone Co. in the cable department. He enlisted in the Army Signal Corps in 1942 and served in North Africa and the European Theater during World War II. He was discharged in December 1945.

He returned to the Telephone Co. working in installation and repair. He spent the rest of his career working in southern Maryland, Baltimore City in the commercial department, Washington, DC, and Group Headquarters in various positions. He retired in June 1982 as Asst. Vice President, Training, having been with C. & P. for 41 years.

Mr. Henry was very active in church and community organizations both in Silver Spring where he lived for 22 years and in Ellicott City for the last 19 years.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Olevia Eitemiller Henry, two daughters, Nancy H. Lewis and Deborah H. Carty, two son-in-laws, Donn Lewis and Thomas Carty, and three grandsons, Brian and Jordan Lewis and Kevin Carty.

The Family will receive Friends at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A. on Thursday July 22, 2004 from 3-5 and 7-9 PM.

Services will be held at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, 1212 West Old Liberty Road, Winfield, MD on Friday morning at 10:00.

In lieu of flowers donations maybe made to Glen Mar United Methodist Church, 8430 Glen Mar Rd. Ellicott City, MD 21043
