December 28, 2000

Helen M. Hudson Montaque of Sudlersville, Md. died on December 28, 2000 at Magnolia Hall Nursing Home in Chestertown, Md. She was 82.

Mrs. Montaque was the daughter of the late Harry Hugh and Carrie Melvin Hudson and the wife of the late Woodrow Montaque.

Mrs. Montaque was a teachers aid for the Queen Annes County School System.

She was a member of Calvary Asbury United Methodist Church in Sudlersville, Md.

She is survived by a sister: Beatrice M. Scull of Chestertown, Md. and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday January 2, 2001 at 1:00 P.M. at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Rd. Chestertown, Md. where relatives and friends may call between the hours of 12-1 or one hour prior.

Interment will be in Sudlersville cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Calvary Asbury United Methodist Church P.O. Box 202 Sudlersville, Md. 21668.

December 27, 2000

Larry Alfred Jewell of Queenstown, MD, died Wednesday December 27, 2000 at his home in Queenstown, MD.

He was 59.

Born on July 13, 1941 in Grasonville, MD. he was the son of the late Alfred & Marie Seward Jewell.

He was a 1960 graduate from Stevensville High School.

He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and after being Honorably Discharge he returned home to Grasonville.

Mr. Jewell began working for the MD State Police as a dispatch operator out of the Centreville Barracks.

He later worked as a self-employed waterman oystering and claming and also farmed with Buck Whaley in Queenstown, MD.

He married Beverly Kirsch on November 18, 1972.

From 1980 to present he worked for RB Baker & Sons as a heavy equipment operator in Queenstown, MD and still farmed with the Whaley Family in Queenstown, MD.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #278 in Stevensville, MD and Bay Country Moose Lodge #831 in Queenstown, MD.

He is survived by his wife Beverly Kirsch Jewell of Queenstown, MD a son Darrell Cook of Alabama; a daughter Dawn Fisher of Stevensville, MD. and five (5) grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11AM on Saturday December 30, 2000 at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Centreville, MD.

Interment will be in Chesterfield cemetery in Centreville, MD.

Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday December 29, 2000 from 2PM to 4PM and 7Pm to 9PM.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Queen Anne’s, Inc. 300 Del Rhodes Ave. Queenstown, MD.; American Cancer Society Queen Anne’s County P.O. Box 132 Queenstown, MD. 21658 or Grasonville Church of God Station Lane Grasonville, MD. 21638.

December 26, 2000

Freddie E. Crockett, Sr, 60yrs, of Earleville, MD, died on December 26th at his residence as a result of respiratory failure.

Born in Tangier, VA, he was the son of the late Fred Colson & Mary Ellen [Charnock] Crockett.

He spent all of his formative years in the Tangier area.

The United States Government employed him as a Civil Service Worker as a postal clerk.

He worked at the Fort Meade Army Base in that capacity for a period of 25 years retiring in 1993.

He and his wife Valarie establish residence in Earleville, and have lived in their home for the past 25 years.

They raised a family of two. Mr. Crockett enjoyed his home and being with his family and particularly enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren.

In his spare time, Mr. Crockett loved working with doing handcrafts, especially working with wood.

He also enjoyed the treasures of Maryland's Eastern Shore, an avid boater who enjoyed fishing and crabbing.

Mr. Crockett is survived by his wife of 25 years, Valarie Crockett of Earleville, MD, a son Freddie E. Crockett, Jr, of Earleville, MD and a daughter Stephanie Barlow of Elkton, MD, a sister Hettie Bowden of Tangier, VA, and three grandchildren, Samantha, Victoria and Steven Barlow all of Elkton, MD.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January, 6th at 10AM from the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. 226 East Main St., Cecilton, MD.

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of Flowers the family suggest that Memorial Contributions be made in his name to the Cecilton Vol. Fire Dept. Ambulance fund C/O PO Box 565, Cecilton, MD 21913

Charles John Marsiglia, Jr. of Cordova died on Tuesday, December 26, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital, Easton. He was 68.

Born on August 27, 1932 in Brooklyn, MD, he was the son of the late Charles John, Sr., and Arrietta Grahe Marsiglia.

After graduating from Glen Burnie High School, he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps.

He served from March 1950 to October 1952 in Korea.

Following his honorable discharge, he made his home in Brooklyn and later in the Annapolis area while working for the Pepsi Cola Corporation as a marketing director.

In 1985, he left Pepsi to help run and manage the thoroughbred farm in Cordova that he and his family had moved to the previous year.

He retired in 1994 but continued part-time employment with Murdoch Gardens as salesperson and later as a merchandising consultant for the major grocery store chains.

Mr. Marsiglia was member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cordova.

He was also a member of the Caroline County Moose Lodge #2332, the American Legion Benedict A. Andrew Post # 296 in Queenstown, and the V.F.W. E.E. Streets Memorial Post # 5118 in Easton.

In addition to his wife, Patricia L. Marsiglia, whom he married in 1973, he is survived by a daughter, Debra Forman of Severna Park; two sons, Charles Marsiglia of Pasadena, and Mark Marsiglia of Glen Burnie; two step-sons, Shawn Howser of Cordova, and Douglass Howser of Crownsville; and 7 grandchildren.

Two brothers, Louis Marsiglia and Mickey Marsiglia, are deceased.

Funeral services will be held at the Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Friday, December 29, 2000 at 10:00 AM.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 3-5 & 7-9 PM.

Burial will be at the Maryland Veterans cemetery-Crownsville on Friday at 1:00 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 209 East Market Street, Salisbury, MD 21801.

Anna A. Stevens of Millington, Md. died Tuesday December 26th. 2000 in her home of heart failure. She was 83.

Mrs. Stevens was born near Kenton, Del., the daughter of the late Eugene and Elva Cook Attix.

Mrs. Stevens worked for 40yrs.

As a garment worker for the Wiltex Co. of Wilmington, De.

Retiring in 1981. Mrs. Stevens was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Millington, Md. and a member of the United Methodist Women at Asbury.

She was a member of the Millington Senior Citizens Club, and the Massey homemakers Club.

Mrs. Stevens enjoyed needlework and sewing and for many years enjoyed ceramic work.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Stevens is predeceased by her husband Charles Taylor Stevens in August of this year.

Mrs. Stevens is survived by a daughter Carol Elaine Anderson and her husband Alfred of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; Sister Catherine Burton of Rehoboth Beach, Del.; Grandchildren, Tracy Anderson and Alfred Anderson Jr. both of Mt. Vernon, N.Y. a sister-in-law Florence Stevens of Millington, Md. and her care giver Joanne Collins.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday December 30th.

At 11 am from the Fellows Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home 370 W. Cypress St. Millington, Md. where friends and family may call 1 hr. prior to services.

Interment will be in the Asbury cemetery, Millington, Md.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Asbury United Methodist church, P.O. Box 187, Millington, Md. 21651.

December 25, 2000

Mary E. Fletcher of Chester died on Monday, December 25, 2000 at Homestead Manor in Denton. She was 96.

Born on April 10, 1904 in Airdrie, Scotland, she was the daughter of the late David and Margaret McCormick Fletcher.

She grew up in Scotland until 1923, when she moved to the United States.

She obtained her citizenship in 1946.

She worked as a nurse in Pittsburgh, and later in New York.

In the 1950’s she moved to the Washington Metropolitan area to live with her daughter and help her raise her family.

She then moved to Chester in 1985, and to Homestead Manor in Denton in 1995.

She volunteered at various hospitals and the senior center in Grasonville.

She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Stevensville.

She is survived by a daughter, Isobel F. Baxter of Chester, two sisters, Margaret Mackay of Bellmore, NY and Jean McCoy of Rye, NY, two grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Interment will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Homestead Manor P.O. Box 400 Denton, Maryland 21629
