Thomas M. McHale, Jr., age 73, of Westminster, died Tuesday August 17, 2004 at his home.

He was born April 8, 1931 in Baltimore, MD, the son of the late Thomas M. McHale, Sr. and the late Angela Josephine McHale (nee Maddox).

He grew up on 38th St. in Waverly, MD, joined U.S.C.G. in 1949 Duty in Assategue, VA and Long Beach, CA on the Cutter Ponchatrain, After Discharge married and moved to Randallstown, MD, moved to Marriottsville, MD in 1968 and moved to Westminster, MD in 1996. He attended Cathedral Parochial School and Mt. St. Joseph High School. He was a Telephone PBX Repairman for C & P Telephone Co. & AT &T for 33 years.
He served during the Korean War. U.S. Coast Guard Active 1949-1953, C & P Telephone & AT & T for 33 years, US Coast Guard Reserves 1953-1980 (Reserve Commanding Officer of Station Still Pond), Commander Catholic War Vets., MSGR Hugh Monaghan Post 736. Member of Catholic War Veterans, Coast Guard Combat War Vet., American Legion, Knight of Columbus, Mt. St. Joseph Fathers Club and Telephone Pioneers.

He was the husband of Mary Catherine McHale (nee Furlong), married April 14, 1956 at St. Phillip & James Church in Baltimore, MD

He was the father of Maureen Johnson of Finksburg, Karen Sullivan of Baltimore, Michael McHale of Marriottsville, Mary Patricia Vielandi of Marriottsville, Shannon McHale of Owings Mills, and Thomas McHale III of Marriottsville.

Also survived by 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, 4 nephews and 1 niece.

Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) on Friday and Saturday 3-5 & 7-9 PM, Vigil Wake Service Friday at 8:00 P.M. Funeral Liturgy (MASS) will be held Monday August 23, 2004 at 9:30 A.M. at St. Alphonsus R.C. Church, 10800 Old Court Road, Woodstock.

Interment will be in Garrison Forest Veterans cemetery.

Memorial Contributions can be made to National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows Oblate Mission, 9480 North DeMazenod Drive, Belleville, IL 62223-1160.

Thomas Robert Sonoga, age 73, of Westminster, died Sunday July 13, 2003 at his home.

He was born December 22, 1929 in Uniontown, PA., the son of the late Stephen Sonoga and the late Margaret Vilseck Sonoga.

He was a self-employed Salesman.

He was the husband of Gwendolyn L. Sonoga (nee Slabaugh).

He was the father of Dr. Anne L. Sonoga of Mt. Laurel, NJ.

He was the brother of Robert W. Sonoga of Mission Viejo, CA and the late Richard Sonoga.

Funeral Service will be Thursday July 17, 2003 at 11:00 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (Beside South Carroll High School) with the Rev. Terri Rae Chattin of Reisterstown U.M. Church in Reisterstown officiating.

Private Interment

Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home on Tuesday 7-9 & Wed. 2-4 & 7-9 PM.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

Virginia Ruth Dorsey Barnes
77, of Pikesville, MD
1926 - 2003

Died Thursday December 4, 2003 at St. Agnes Health Care.

She is the companion of Kenneth C. Robertson.

She was born June 18, 1926.

The daughter of the late Howard A. Dorsey and the late Adele B. Bowen Dorsey.

Surviving are Son and Daughter in-law: Jim and Karen Barnes of Frostburg, MD, Grandmother of Carolyn D. Kinnear and her husband Kevin, Timothy J. Barnes, Sara A. and her husband Kevin McPherson, Great-Grandmother of Nicolas J. Kinnear.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Monday December 8, 2003 10:30 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 with Rev. Rollings R. Johnson officiating.

Interment Druid Ridge cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday December 7, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.

Contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society.

Wanda Lee Colson Anderson
59, of Winfield, MD
1959 - 2004

Wanda Lee Colson Anderson, 59, died Thursday June 10, 2004 at Carroll Hospital Center after an extended illness.

She was the spouse of the late Thomas E. Anderson. She was born November 24, 1944 in Woodbine, MD the daughter of the late Howard L and Annie Duvall Colson.

Mrs. Anderson worked as a nursing assistant at Golden Age Guest Home for over 25 years. Hobbies included Bingo, Camping and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by Daughters: Debbie Anderson, Patty Bailey, Missy Bailey and Lynn Anderson all of Westminster, Brothers and Sisters: Anna Mae Harrison of Woodbine, Margie Hett of Westminster, Dorothy Pearce of Florida and George Colson of Westminster. 5 Grandchildren: Gary Bailey, Jr., Amber Anderson, Amanda Greenholtz, Zachary Bailey and Thomas Bailey.

Preceded in death by Brothers: Howard and Raymond Colson, Sisters: Virginia Eyler and Nancy Delph and Grandson Joe Bailey.

Funeral Services will be held Monday June 14, 2004 10 Am at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & CREMATORY, P.A. 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 with the Rev. Roger Strait officiating.

Interment will be in Zion UM Church cemetery, Westminster, MD

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM

William McKinley Franklin
79, of Woodbine, MD
1923 - 2003

William McKinley Franklin of Woodbine, Maryland died Tuesday June 24, 2003 at Carroll County General Hospital.

He was the spouse of Betty Anna Knill Franklin.

He was born November 29, 1923 in Woodbine, MD the son of the late William Emory and the late Annie Irene Norwood Franklin.

Mr. Franklin was farmer and a carpenter.

He enjoyed Western Movies. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Mt. Airy, MD

Surviving him besides his wife are Children: Roger W. Franklin of Atlanta GA, Betty A. Britton of Woodbine, Ellen M. Franklin of Woodbine, Susan L. Miley of Severn, MD and William E. Franklin of New Windsor, MD. Sisters: Marguerite Harrison of Woodbine, Bertha Jenkins of Westminster, Eleanor Huber of Westminster, Gladys Mae Huber of Westminster, Vera McCluster of Westminster. He is preceded in death by brother Walter Scott Franklin. Also Survived by Grandchildren Christopher W. Franklin, Candice N. Franklin, Ashley A. Britton and Zackery E. Miley.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday June 27, 2003 at 11:00 AM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784(beside South Carroll High School)with Rev. Roger L. Rinker of Calvary Lutheran Church officiating.

Interment will be in Morgan Chapel cemetery, Woodbine, MD

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday June 26, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM .

Mary Ruth Nusbaum Gist
77, of Sykesville, MD
1927 - 2004

Mary Ruth Nusbaum Gist, 77, died Wednesday August 18, 2004 at Carroll Hospital Center. She was the spouse of Francis Levine Gist.

She was born August 6, 1927 in Westminster, MD the daughter of the late Harry Ambrose Nusbaum and Ida Martin Nusbaum.

She retired after 29 years as a Licensed Practical Nurse for Springfield State Hospital and then worked for Senior Constant Care in Winfield for over 15 years. She was a Member of Sykesville American Legion Post 223 and a Life member of Westminster VFW #467 Ladies Auxialary . She enjoyed Crocheting and was a member of MD Classified. She was also a member of Sykesville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are Son and Daughter-in-law: Francis W. and Karen Gist of Jarriottsville, Daughter Carol R. Brooks of Owings Mills, Daughter and Son-in-law: Judith and Erich Hofmann of Manchester. Sister: Evelyn Wilson of PA, Brother: Donald Nusbaum of Union Bridge, Brother: Robert Nusbaum of Westminster, Sister: Betty Haines of Westminster Grandchildren: Deborah Davis, Kevin Gist, Michael Gist, Jeffrey Gist, Brooke Brooks, Ashley Hofmann, Heather Hofmann. Great-grandchildren: Devin Hunt, Ronnie Gist, Josie Gist, Hailey Davis, Amber Davis, Jessica Gist, Brandon Gist and Bobbie Gist.

Preceded in death by son: Ronald L. Gist and Brothers and Sisters: James and Henry Nusbaum, Dorothy Johnston and Janet Bookhultz

Funeral Services will be held Saturday August 21, 2004 10 Am at BURRIER-QUEEN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, P.A., 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784 with Rev. Charles Main officiating. Interment will be in Deer Park UMC cemetery, Westminster, MD

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday 7-9 Pm and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM

Rachel Erin Nelligan
20, of New Windsor, MD
1984 - 2004

Rachel Erin Nelligan, 20, of New Windsor, died in her sleep, October 8, 2004, at Towson, MD.

She was the sister of Austin H. Nelligan of New Windsor, the daughter of Sharon H. and Arthur M. Nelligan of New Windsor, and the close friend of Neil Hidey.

She was born September 18, 1984 in Olney, MD

She was a student at Towson University and worked in providing instructional programming for children with autism.

Surviving relatives include her maternal grandmother, Geneva Howard of New Windsor; fraternal grandparents, William and Dorothy Nelligan of Damascus; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday October 14, 2004 from 7:00PM-9:00PM, at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield, MD (Beside South Carroll High School).

An Outdoor Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. at Dayspring Church, 11301 Neelsville Church Road, Germantown, MD 20876.

Those desiring to make contributions to the Rachel Nelligan Fund for Children with Autism, may forward contributions to 2801 Dr. Stitely Road, New Windsor, MD 21776.

Richard C. Hewitt, Jr.
84, of Frederick, MD
1920 - 2004

Died Saturday, June 5, 2004 at North Hampton Manor Nursing Home, Frederick, MD

Mr. Hewitt was born May 13, 1920 in Sykesville, MD the son of the late Richard C. Hewitt, Sr. and Late Bessie Mae Naill Hewitt.

Mr. Hewitt Served in WWII in the South Pacific from 1941 to 1946 in the United States Army. He was a member of the South Carroll VFW Post 9952.

He is survived by sister and brother-in-law: Claudia M. Goss of Walkersville and Franklin G. Goss.

Robert M. Svendsen, age 89, of Sykesville, formerly of Portland, OR, died Wednesday July 14, 2004 at Golden Age Guest Home in Sykesville, MD

He was born December 14, 1914 in Portland, Oregon, the son of the late Christian Svendsen and the late Matilda Svendsen (nee Moritz).

Graduate of Franklin High School, Portland, OR. Served in the U.S. Army in WWII in the Pacific Theater. He was a Dairyman for Western Creamery in Portland Oregon for over 30 years. Retired as a handyman for Marquils Jewelers in Portland Oregon. Lived in Sykesville, MD since November 2001.
Interests: Clackamas County Master Gardeners, member Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, Scoutmaster for a Boys Scout Troop in Portland Oregon, reading.

He was the husband of the late Alice M. Svendsen (nee Montgomery), whom died September 5, 2001.

Father of Robert L. Svendsen and his wife Phyllis L. Svendsen of Sykesville, MD

Grandfather of Christian E. Svendsen of Front Royal, VA, and Andrea A. Svendsen of Birmingham, AL

Funeral Service will be held Tuesday July 20, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. at Peake Memorial Chapel, 1925 S. E. Scott St., Milwaukie, OR with the Rev. Amy Overton-Harris of Trinity U.M. Church in Portland, OR officiating.

Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery, Portland, OR.

The family requests that donations be made to the Trinity U.M. Church, Building Fund, 3915 S. E. Steel, Portland, OR 97202 in lieu of flowers.
