Dorothy G. Johnston, of Ridgely, MD, died at The Memorial Hospital at Easton, MD on Thursday, December 20, 2000. She was 71.
Born in Westminster, MD, April 29, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ida Martin Nusbaum. She attended public school in Carroll County and resided in Westminster, MD until moving to Ridgely, MD eight years ago.
Mrs. Johnston is survived by two sons, Terry J. Johnston of Denton, Md and Larry J. Gergerson of Manchester, Md; one daughter, Tamma L. Mathis of Ridgely, MD; four sisters, three brothers, four grandchildren and one great grandson. She is predeceased by her grandson, Andy Johnston who died February 5, 1993.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2000 at 11 AM at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Easton, Md, where friends may call on Friday, December 22, 2000 from 6 to 8 PM and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be at Greenmount cemetery, Hillsboro, MD.
Ms. Bettye Clark Saf, 80 yrs, of Lutherville, MD, died December 20th, 2000 at home. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and an active member of the Govan's Presbyterian Church in Govans, MD. A daughter, Mary Lee Saf of Timonium, MD, and a bother, Edward Clark of Chicago, IL, survive her.
Memorial services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
Ms. Mary "Gert" Pullum, 91yrs, of Chestertown, MD, formally of Ingleside died on December 20th at the Corsicia Hills Nursing Home.
Born August 26th, 1909, she was the daughter of the late, Samuel T. & Eleanora [Wright] Gibbs. Her family moved to the Chester, Pennsylvania area. It was here that she spent all of her formative years and attended Chester schools. During her working years, she had been worked for various employers as a cook. She did spend 7 years as a cook at the Governors Mansion for the Governor of Pennsylvania. Ms Pullum was very active in the Adult Day Care Center in Centreville, MD. 2 nephews and 4 nieces survive Ms. Pullum.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 27th at 1 PM from the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funereal Home, 408 S. Liberty St., Centreville, MD. Friends and family may call 1 hour prior to service

Lois J. Horney of Chester died on Tuesday, December 19, 2000 at her home. She was 72.
Born in Chester, MD on October 12, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Catherine Harris Jones. She graduated from Stevensville High School in the class of 1945. On October 5, 1945 she married
Robert Horney of Grasonville. Mrs. Horney worked for the Acme Food store and Tidewater Bank in Stevensville, MD. She then went to work for the U.S. Postal Service, and retired as Postmaster of the Chester Post Office after 28 years of service in 1988.
She was a member of Kent Island United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women at the church. She was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the National Association of Postmasters, and the American Association of Retired People.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Wanda L. Bullen and Kathy S. Comegys of Chester, MD, two grandsons, Robert Kenneth Bullen and William Comegys of Chester, MD, three granddaughters, Angela Kay Bullen of Salisbury, MD, Cara Lois Comegys of Martinsburg, WV and Kristin Courtney Comegys of Chester, MD, and two great-grandchildren, Jayme and Ashley Bullen, both of Chester, MD.
Services will be held at Kent Island United Methodist Church on Friday, December 22, 2000 at 11:00 AM. Family and Friends may call at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Chester on Thursday, December 21, 2000 from 3 PM to 5 PM and 7 PM to 9 PM. Burial will be at Kingsley cemetery, Chester, MD.

June D. Porter of Stevensville died on Tuesday, December 19, 2000 at her home. She was 75.
Born in Flaxton, North Dakota on January 16, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Olie and Florence Hostbjor. She graduated from Flaxton High School in the class of 1943. Mrs. Porter then moved to Oregon and helped with the WWII effort as a welder. After WWII, she moved to Silver Spring, MD and met Charles Mark Porter. They married
on May 15, 1950.Mrs. Porter raised her family in Takoma Park, MD, and later, Rogers Heights, MD where she worked at Rogers Heights Elementary School.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Porter is survived by three sons, Mark C. Porter and Lee A. Porter, both of Stevensville, and Craig B. Porter of Shady Side, MD and four grandchildren. She is also survived by her niece, Gena Hostbjor of Sassafras, KY and her nephew, Gary Hostbjor of Minot, ND, whom she raised.
Services will be held at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Chester, on Thursday, December 21, 2000 at 11:00 am. Family and Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 20, 2000 from 7 till 9. Burial will be at Stevensville cemetery, Stevensville, MD.

Mrs. Edna E. Palmer, 87, of Middletown, Delaware died on Monday, December 18th at the Westminster Nursing Home in Dover, DE.
Born in Massey, MD, she was the daughter of the late, Carroll B. & Ella [Brown] Everett. Raised in Massey, she attended school in the Kent County School System and graduated from Galena High School. She married
the late Arthur R. "Cotton" Price and together they had two children, she later married
Clifford James Palmer. Mrs. Palmer worked for 30 + years for the United States Postal System and retired in 1972 as the Postmaster of the Middletown Post Office.
In her spare time she enjoyed collecting frogs, and other glassware, and particularly enjoyed her flowers. Mrs. Palmer was very family orientated, enjoyed her home and particularly enjoyed family activities and being with her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Price was a member of the Middletown Lions Club, Retired Postmasters Association, and the Middletown Odessa Townsend Senior Citizen Center. Both her husbands, and her only brother, William C. "Gus" Everett, precede her in death.
Surviving Mrs. Price are her two sons, Donald E. Price of Middletown, DE, and David A. Price of Smyrna, DE. a cousin, Kay Heinold who was her devoted friend who helped dwith her health care, her five grandchildren, Donna M. Price, Kathy A. Potts, A. John Price, David A. Price, Jr., and Eric S. Price and her 7 great grandchildren, a niece.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 23rd at 1 P.M. at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home in Millington, MD. Friends and family may call one hour prior to service. Interment will be in Massey cemetery. Officiating the services will be Reverend Isabel T.S. Gardner of Bethesda United Methodist Church in Middletown, DE.

Bernadine Mae Kistler of St. Michaels died on Sunday, December 17, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital in Easton. She was 83.
Born in Emmaus, PA on October 6, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Mabel Miller Stortz. She married
Donald Stephen Kistler in 1935 and they made their home in Emmaus.
In 1956, she moved to St. Michaels and she and her husband opened Kistler's, a grocery store in Easton on the corner of Dover and Locust Streets. They ran it for over 20 years until a decline in Mr. Kistler's health forced them to sell. Mr. Kislter died in 1978. Mrs. Kislter was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Easton and the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum.
Mrs. Kistler is survived by a daughter, Anne Wheeler of West Melbourne, FL; three sisters, Geraldine Miller, Janet Miller, and Marlene Miller, all of Allentown, PA; 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, Jean Lewis, and a brother, Clarence Miller, are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at the Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Friday, December 22, 2000 at 1:00 PM. Burial will be in Spring Hill cemetery, Easton.

Carolyn Vogt Taylor of Easton, MD, formerly of Washington, D.C. died at the Brighton Gardens of Tuckerman Lane, North Bethesda, MD, Sunday, December 17, 2000. She was 85.
Born in Washington, D.C., March 11, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Frederick L. and Eleanor Schulz Vogt. After graduating from Western High School in Washington, D.C. in 1932, she attended the University of Maryland where she received her degree in Home Economics in 1936. In 1940, she married
Dr. Robert G. Taylor and they lived in the Washington, D. C. until moving to Easton in 1969. Dr. Taylor died on September 12, 1993.
A member of the Presbyterian Church of Easton and the Presbyterian Women of the Church, she was also a member of the Talbot Country Club, Poplar Island Yacht Club and was affiliated with the St. Andrews Society.
Mrs. Taylor is survived by a son, Robert F. Taylor and his wife, Betty, of Bethesda, MD; a daughter, Jane T. Ryan and her husband, Jack, of Potomac, MD; four grandchildren, Robert S. Taylor and his wife, Megan, of Frederick, MD, Lt. David F. Taylor U.S.N. of Whitby Island, WA, Carolyn R. Decker and her husband, Eric, of Dover, N. H. and John J. Ryan, Jr. of Charleston, SC and one great grandson, Robert Kenneth Taylor.
Services will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Easton on Thursday, December 21, 2000 at 2 PM. Burial will be at Oxford cemetery, Oxford, MD. Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Wednesday, December 20, 2000 from 3 to 5 PM.
