Claudine L. Frush

Claudine L. Frush, 76, of Orlando, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, in Orlando.

Born Aug. 3, 1930, in Hagers-town, she was the daughter of Earl and Ruby Hart. Her husband, Richard Page Frush, died in 1971. She was a homemaker. She is survived by one daughter, Alinda Williams; one son, Timothy H. Frush; three sisters, Joyce Franklin, Audrey McCauley and Gloria Allen; one brother, Earl G. Hart Jr.; and six grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Rest Haven cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association.

Sara C. Lane

Sara Catherine Lane, 21, of Hagerstown, died at her home Monday, Sept. 25, 2006.

She is survived by her mother, Rhonda D. Gamber of Hagerstown, and two brothers, Benjamin Kepler of Mount Savage, Md., and Brian Kepler of Ocean City, Md. Sara, of 451 Clarendon Ave., was born March 22, 1985, in Baltimore and grew up in and around Hagerstown and the Falling Waters, W.Va., areas. She graduated from Hedgesville High School in West Virginia. When she died, Sara, who had dreams of becoming a pediatrician or pediatric nurse, was enrolled at Hagerstown Community College. She worked as a waitress at several Hagerstown restaurants, including Outback Steakhouse, The Grille at Park Circle, Texas Roadhouse and Western Sizzlin Steakhouse. During her free time, she enjoyed socializing with friends and family. Other survivors include: her stepfather, Bill Gamber, and stepsisters, Dawn and Amy; grandmother, Catherine Jane Tracy; grandfather, Ronald MacDurmon Sr.; great-grandmother, Hilda Jane Hose; aunts, Mona Jo Frazier and Brenda Lee Tracy; uncles, Joseph Loose Lane III, Charles Frazier and Wesley MacDurmon; and cousins, Rhiannon Lee Hutzell and Ciro "Rocky" Vincenzo Schiano-dicola. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Joseph Loose Lane II, and great-grandfather, Sylvester Franklin Hose Sr.

Family will receive friends and relatives beginning at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel in Hagerstown. The visitation and viewing will be followed by a funeral service beginning at noon at Rest Haven with Pastor Joseph Brown officiating. Burial and a brief graveside service is at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rose Hill cemetery in Hagerstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sara's name to the American Cancer Society's children's fund, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742 or the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic, 10920 Connecticut Ave., Suite 1600, Kensington, MD 20895.

Deloris N. Baird

Deloris Naomi "Dee" Baird, 96, of Hagerstown, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at Homewood of Williamsport.

Born June 6, 1910, in Altoona, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry D. and Ida Mary Schfield Beck. Mrs. Baird was a graduate of Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at Washington County Hospital; she also was employed at Homewood of Williamsport and was one of the first 12 school nurses in the State of Pennsylvania working in Bridgeville, Pa. She was a member of Christ's Reformed Church in Hagerstown. She started the Golden Ball Room Dancers; she was a member of the RSVP Players, The Hagerstown Square Dancers and The Lady Elks of Hagerstown. She is survived by one daughter, Diane L. Baird of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; one son, H. David and wife, Betty J. Baird, of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; one granddaughter, Karen Baird-Miller of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; one grandson, David C. Baird of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and one great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Baird, in 1977.

Funeral services will be conducted at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown, on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Rest Haven cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Nevin V. Moore

Nevin Vincent Moore, 86, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at Homewood of Williamsport.

Born Feb. 13, 1920, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Grant L. and Hazel E. Hull Hoffman. He retired from Potomac Edison after 38 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hagerstown. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Ruth A. Hose Eichelberger Moore; one stepdaughter, Arlene K. Mose of Hagerstown; two stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty M. Vaughn; and one brother, Henry L. Moore.

Memorial services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. The Rev. Thom Smith will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 15 High St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

John M. Fritz, Sr.

Mr. John Milton Fritz Sr., 74, of Hagerstown, formerly of Frederick, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2006, at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore.

Mr. Fritz was born in Liberty, Md., on July 18, 1932, and was the son of the late Milton Ezra and Violet (Clary) Kidd. He was a 1956 graduate of Walkersville High School. He worked as a lumberjack and was a member of Redmen Tribe 19, Owls Club, Loyal Order of the Moose of Mercersburg and the American Legion. He was the husband of Roxie Ann Fritz of Hagerstown. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Michael E. Fritz of Thurmont and John M. Fritz Jr. of Hagerstown; sisters, Betty Boyer of Frederick and Mary Ellen Kidd of Hagerstown; a brother, Roy F. Smith of Woodsboro; and a special nephew, Steven Dale Spence of Thurmont. He is also survived by five grandchildren, one great grandchildren and three nieces.

He was preceded in death by a son, Chester A. Fritz, and a sister, Marie Zebroski.

Friends and family will be received at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church St., Frederick, on Thursday, from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 20, in Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown, with Dr. Larry Aikens officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven cemetery, Hagerstown.

Diana L. Blair

Diana Lynn Blair, 46, of Hagerstown died Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at Western Maryland Hospital Center in Hagerstown.

Born July 11, 1960, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Sandra L. Zentmyer Blair of Hagerstown and the late Ray G. Blair. She is survived by two sisters, Debbie Moser of Greencastle, Pa., and Kristi Blair of Hagerstown; and two brothers, Brian Blair and Michael Blair, both of Hagerstown.

Private graveside services will be at Rest Haven cemetery. The Rev. David C. Baker will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Western Maryland Hospital Center, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742. Arrangements are by Rest Haven Funeral Chapel in Hagerstown.

William D. Kendall

William Aaron Dennis Kendall, 53, of Hagerstown died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Dec. 28, 1952, in Owings Mills, Md., he was the son of the late William Aaron James Kendall and Nayvana Lue Kendall. He attended Washington County ARC Day Placement and was supported by Lycher Inc. He is survived by his caregiver, Esther "Mommy" Bonet.

Graveside services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Rest Haven cemetery in Hagerstown. The Rev. Mark C. Mooney will officiate. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are by Rest Haven Funeral Chapel in Hagerstown.

Charlotte E. Boyers

Charlotte E. "Connie" Boyers, 83, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, at Western Maryland Hospital Center.

Born July 25, 1923, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Samuel H. and Mary Esther Sinn Conrad. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred E. Boyers Sr., in 2000. She was a 1941 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She was the former manager of Boyers Two-Way Radio Inc. She was a member of Harvest Baptist Church and had been a member of Western Maryland Hospital Auxiliary. She is survived by five daughters and two sons, Lynda Daley of Greencastle, Pa., Mary Kline, Julie Carter and Al Boyers Jr., all of Hagerstown, Krista Strock of Fairfield, Pa., Paulette Robinson of Clear Spring and Bruce Boyers of Clarksville, Ohio, and formerly of Hagerstown; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nora L. Conrad and Mary Hoch; five brothers, Benjamin Conrad, Charles Conrad, Homer Conrad, Irvin Conrad and John Conrad; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel in Hagerstown. The Rev. Gary Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Western Maryland Hospital Auxiliary, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742 or Harvest Baptist Youth Group, 951 Woodland Way, Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Verdeen W. Shoop

Verdeen Wilson "Dean" Shoop, 82, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at his residence.

Born on Jan. 4, 1924, in Mount Lena, Md., he was the son of the late Charles Franklin and Grace May (Haupt) Shoop. Mr. Shoop retired in 1985 as a pressman with the Hagerstown Rubber Co. He also had worked for Pangborn Corp. He was a member of Black Rock Bible Church in Hagers-town. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hilda Louise (Rohrer) Shoop; one son, Donald Shoop of Hagerstown; one daughter, Delores Wolf of Hagerstown; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Palmer; and two brothers, Eugene Shoop and Verlin Shoop.

Funeral services will be conducted at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown, on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dennis Sieglaff officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to services. Memorial contributions may be made to Black Rock Bible Church, 9646 Crystal Falls Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Anna G. Casto

Anna Guidi Casto, 75, of Hagerstown, and formerly of Upper Marlboro, Md., died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at Washington County Hospital.

Born June 28, 1931, in Gary, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Maria Marchesi Guidi. She was a 1950 graduate of Big Creek High School in War, W.Va. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hagerstown. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Jack Durward Casto; three daughters, Lisa L. Swann and Tammy A. Casto, both of Waldorf, Md., and Teresa A. Spittle of La Plata, Md.; one son, Anthony J. Casto of Hagerstown; two sisters, her twin, Angelica Hunt of Cleveland, and Mary C. Kekich of Dundalk, Md.; one brother, Daniel Guidi of War; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hagerstown. The Rev. George A. Limmer will be celebrant and the Rev. Christopher Moore will be co-celebrant. Burial will follow in Rest Haven cemetery, Hagerstown. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. A Christian wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 17628 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Virginia L. Thomas

Virginia Lee Thomas, 66, of Hagerstown died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born May 7, 1940, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Almeda Wolfe. She was a member of First Christian Church in Hagerstown. She had been employed by the Washington County Department of Social Services. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Boyer of Reading, Pa. and Erin Thomas of Hagerstown; one brother, Charles T. Wolfe; and three grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel in Hagerstown. The Rev. Fred Harris will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633.

Esther G. Hemphill

Esther Grace (Sheasley) Hemphill, 86, of Hagerstown, passed away Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, at Homewood of Williamsport.

Born Aug. 10, 1920, in Emporium, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Alfred W. and Grace M. (Griffith) Sheasley. Mrs. Hemphill was a graduate of Lock Haven State Teachers College in Pennsylvania. She was a elementary school teacher in Washington County and in various Pennsylvania school districts. She was a longtime member of Haven Lutheran Church, Hagerstown, and sang in the church choir. For several years she was employed as the director of the Washington County RSVP Program. An avid gardener, Esther was a member of a local garden club, as well as a member of the Hagerstown Women's Club and the American Association of University Women. She is survived by two daughters, Gracie F. Hemphill and son-in-law, Mark Jackson of Summit, N.J., and Sheila A. Hemphill of Charlotte, N.C.; three grandchildren, Jessica Ann Manuszak of Apex N.C., Matthew Hemphill Jackson and Justin William Jackson, both of Summit. In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, George William Hemphill in 1992; her daughter, Linda Sue Hemphill; and her sister, Phyllis Shively.

A Celebration of Esther's life will be conducted at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Beverly Lange, associate pastor of Haven Lutheran Church officiating. A reception will follow at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at Rest Haven cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Haven Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Nelson R. Coles

Nelson Robert "Chumley Nels" Coles, 48, of Hagerstown, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006, doing what he loved best, hunting with his family.

Born Jan. 10, 1958, in Savannah, Ga., he was the son of the Rev. Robert Nelson Coles Sr. and Martha K. (Budd) Coles of Waynesboro, Pa. He was employed for 20 years as a delivery driver for UPS in Frederick, Md., and previously as a correctional officer with the Maryland Correctional Institution. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Hagerstown. He was a 1976 graduate of North Hagerstown High School, where he played football and basketball. He attended Hagerstown Junior College and the University of Maryland. Nelson was an avid hunter and fisherman with a love for the outdoors. He coached Little League and Senior League baseball, was past president and coach of youth football, past vice president of the Williamsport Wrestling Club, coached freshman football at North Hagerstown High School, was a member of AC Hunt Club and the Waynesboro Fish and Game Club and was an active member of the United Teamsters Union (UPS). He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Tonya J. Brown Coles; he is remembered lovingly as a devoted husband and father and was a best friend to his son, Chad H. Coles of Hagerstown; also surviving are four sisters, Marsha L. Pearson of Horseheads, N.Y., Emily E. Coles of Elmira, N.Y., Verna M. Brown of Williamsport, and Charlotte K. Walkley of Mercersberg, Pa.; one brother, Robert N. Coles Jr. of Yorktown, Ind.; parents-in-law, Phil and JoAnn Brown of Clear Spring; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant twin brother and infant sister.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Fred M. Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven cemetery, Hagerstown. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Linda A. Dunn

Linda Anne Dunn, 61, of Hagerstown, passed away, Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Sept. 22, 1945, in Savannah, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Lynwood H. and Jacqueline K. (Kelly) Reedy. She was a 1963 graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School, and also a graduate of Hagerstown Business College. Mrs. Dunn retired from the Marshall Street School, where she had worked many years as a devoted teacher's assistant. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, past president of the Washington County Classified Employees Association and a member of the Funkstown American Legion Auxiliary, Post 211, and Basset Hound Rescue Society. She is survived by her husband, L. Glenn Dunn; two children, Randall Glen Dunn and wife Pam of Hagerstown, and Deborah Anne Forcino and husband David of Williamsport; seven grandchildren, Brittany Obitts, Dallas Dunn, Lauren Dunn, Matthew Dunn, Jacqueline Forcino, Leslie Forcino and Tracy Forcino; three sisters, Dottie Shipe and husband Mike of Hagerstown, Pat Kochera and husband Bob of Hagerstown, Alice Bartgis and husband John of Frederick; two brothers, Thomas Wayne Reedy and wife Rose of Virginia, and Lynn Reedy and wife Tina of Hagerstown.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. James Nirappel as celebrant. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Friends will be received at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown, today, from 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at the funeral home today at 7 p.m.

Helen M. Martin

Helen Mae Martin, 67, of Hagerstown, passed away Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium, Md.

She was born on April 1, 1939, in Augusta, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Ray and Hilda Mae (Rouzee) Smoot. She is survived by her very close friend, "adopted mother" Dorothy Mae Delauter and her late husband Clarence Herman of Hagerstown. She was a member of First Christian Church in Hagerstown. She was a 1957 graduate of North Hagerstown High School. Helen retired from Sears, where she had worked for over 35 years. She was a member of Morris Frock American Legion, Post 42. Since her retirement, Helen dedicated herself to caring for her family and friends. She also loved to travel with family and friends. Her husband, Jacob Victor Martin Jr., passed away in 2001. She is survived by her loving daughter, Tammy Ranee Spivey, her husband Daniel Gordon Jr. and grandchildren, Taylor Jacob and Sydney Kathleen, all of Baltimore; sisters, Violet Hott of Sharpsburg, Betty Wright of Hagerstown, Ruby Hott of Sharpsburg, and brothers, Russell Smoot of Sharpsburg and Glenmore Smoot of Williamsport. Her sister, Flo E. House, and brother, Charles Smoot Sr., also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel in Hagerstown at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, with the Rev. Fred M. Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven cemetery. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stella Maris Hospice, 2300 Dulaney Valley Road, Timonium, MD 21093 or First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown MD 21742.

Grace M. Yoder

Grace Markel Yoder, 65, of Smithsburg, died, Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Dec. 26, 1940, in Elizabethville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Gideon and Erlena Markel. She was previously employed at Mutual Brethren Insurance Co., Hagerstown. She was a member of Church of the Nazarene, Hagerstown. She is survived by her husband, Allen Joseph Yoder; one son, Douglas A. Yoder of Smithsburg; one sister, Ione Richardson of Portland, Ore.; and one brother, Paul Markel of Elizabethville; and two granddaughters.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. Pastor Steve Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Nazarene, 141 N. Edgewood Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Raymond E. Beach III

Raymond Ensor "Chip" Beach III, 51, of Hagerstown died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Feb. 28, 1955, in Baltimore, he was the son of Raymond E. Beach Jr. of Queenstown, Md. and the late Margaret Harrington. He was a clerk at the AC and T convenience stores in Hagerstown. He was a retired U.S. Navy veteran. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Susan C. Szada Beach; two sons, Raymond E. Beach IV of Newport News, Va. and Joseph T. Beach of Virginia Beach, Va.; one stepson, Justin Godwin of Hagerstown; three sisters, Patricia A. Embert of Mingo Junction, Ohio, Anne R. Martin of Hagerstown and Bonnie Thomas of Queenstown; one granddaughter; and four stepgrandchildren. A memorial service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel in Hagerstown. The Rev. John Mulvihill will officiate. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral chapel following services.

Burial will be at sea. The family will receive friends Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Children In Need, 131 W. North Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
