Williamsport, MD - LaRue Helen Hitchens, 96, of 16505 Virginia Ave. Williamsport, MD passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Homewood Retirement Center Williamsport, MD.

Born May 8, 1916 in Defiance, PA she was the daughter of the late Harry Arthur and Edna Pearl Rorabaugh Hitchens.

She was a graduate of Everitt High School Everitt, PA. She was a 1936 graduate of Juniata College, Huntingdon, PA. She earned her Master’s degree in Education from the University of Maryland.

She was a member of the AARP, the Maryland Retired Teachers’ Association and the Washington County Retired Teachers’ Association. She was also an auxilian at the Washington County Hospital Hagerstown, MD.

Prior to her retirement in 1979, she taught school for 43 years in both Pennsylvania and Maryland.

She was a member of Williamsport United Methodist Church Williamsport, MD.

She was the last surviving member of her family.

She is survived by close friends and caretakers Donald L. Reeser of Hagerstown, MD and Phyllis J. Skidmore of Williamsport, MD.

The funeral home will be open on Friday, November 9, 2012 from 12:00-4:00 pm for the convenience of family and friends.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 12, 2012 at 11:00 am with Rev. Richard A. Kroll officiating. Interment will be in Duvall cemetery Six Mile Run, PA.

Donald Markwood Hoffman, Jr.

Donald Markwood Hoffman, Jr.- 57 of Hagerstown, MD and formerly of Williamsport, MD passed away Friday November 9, 2012 at his home.

Born in Hagerstown on July 18, 1955, he was the son of the late Donald Markwood Hoffman Sr. and Wanda M. Teach Hoffman Whipp of Falling Waters, WV.

He was a 1973 graduate of Williamsport High School.

He was employed for 30 years at Redland Brick in Williamsport as a kiln operator.

He was a member of Conococheague Tribe #84 IORM Williamsport, MD

In addition to his mother, Donald is survived by his wife of 30 years Debra J. Hoffman, two sons Mark G. Hoffman and Justin R. Hoffman both of Florence Mississippi, a daughter Kristi M. Brooks of Hagerstown, MD, a brother Joseph S. Hoffman of Hagerstown, MD, five granddaughters Breanna, Gabrielle, Emily, Alexis and Lucy and two grandsons Blake and Liam.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday November 13, 2012 at 11am at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD 21795 with the Rev. Susan Boehl officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport, MD.

The family will receive friends on Monday November 12, 2012 from 6-8pm at the funeral home which will open Monday after 9am for the convenience of family and friends.

Thomas Emory Delauter- 56 of Hagerstown, MD passed away Friday November 9, 2012 at his home

Born September 1, 1956 in Hagerstown, MD to Gloris Ilene Thomas Delauter of Hagerstown and the late Charles Raymond Delauter.

He graduated from high school in Melbourne, FL.

He was employed as a machine operator with Advanced Board Circuitry in Melbourne, FL

He was a member of Virginia Avenue Church of God in Halfway, MD

He enjoyed Fishing, Hunting and watching Wrestling on TV.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son Charles Delauter of Clinton IL, five sisters Ceceila A. Elgin and Mary C. Burkett both of Hagerstown, MD, Bonnie K. Youngblood and Sarah R. Feigley both of Falling Waters, WV and Brenda L. Vanderspool of Melbourne, FL and a special friend and caretaker Jeffrey C. Caniford of Hagerstown, MD.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday November 13, 2012 at 2pm at Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD 21795 with Rev. A. Paul Harne and Rev. Shawn Bushman officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport, MD.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday November 12, 2012 from 7-9pm. For the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will open Monday at 9am.

Big Pool, MD- Virginia Kaye “Ginger” Shirley- 57 of Big Pool, MD passed away Friday November 9, 2012 at her home under the care of Hospice.

Born November 2, 1955 in St. Petersburg, FL, she was daughter of George Daniel and Joann Brewer Noble of Hagerstown, MD.

She was a 1974 graduate of Williamsport, High School.

She was previously employed with Martins Food of Hagerstown, MD in the Deli and Bakery.

She was of the Protestant faith.

Ginger enjoyed camping with her grandchildren, gardening, fishing, cooking and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband David M. Shirley Jr. whom she married on July 14, 1974, two daughters Ginny M. Anderson and her husband Jeff of Martinsburg, WV and Sonya A. Mauck and her husband Jaime of Hedgesville, WV, a son David M. Shirley and his wife Sarah of Hagerstown, MD, Five sisters Deborah Edleman of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Beverly Noble and Donna Rider both of Falling Waters, WV, Edie Cunningham of Greencastle, PA and Shirley Carmack of Hagerstown, MD, an aunt Nancy Allen of Des Moines, Iowa and eight grandchildren Curtis, Destiny, Kierra, Kearstan, Jazmyn, Amaya, Dakota and Dalton.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday November 14, 2012 at 11am at The Osborne Funeral Home 425 S. Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD 21795 with Deacon Clifford Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Williamsport, MD.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday November 13, 2012 at the funeral home from 6-8pm. For the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will open Tuesday at 9am.

Born, January 20, 1944 in Hagerstown, MD to the late Percy Maxwell and Hazel Lorraine Snapp Sweeney.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carla Sweeney in 2000.

He was previously employed by Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, MD.

He was a member of Christ Reformed Church Sharpsburg, MD.

Son: Brian Patrick Sweeney of Hagerstown, MD

Born, February 1, 1982 in Beckley, WV to John C. Ferris of Hagerstown, MD and Debra J. McClain Williams of Williamsport, MD.

He was a 2000 graduate of South Hagerstown High School Hagerstown, MD.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving in the 2nd Battalion 2nd Marine Division serving 2 tours in Iraq in the Infantry.

He was employed as an Electrician with IBEW Local #307.

He was recently promoted to President of the Virginia Chapter of the Avengers Motorcycle Club. He was also Past Vice President of the Maryland Chapter of the Avengers Motorcycle Club.

He was a member of American Legion Post #10 Clopper Michael Boonsboro, MD.

Williamsport, MD - Janet Mildred Jessop, 95, of Williamsport, MD was called home to be with the Lord, her beloved husband Charles and her son Gary on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Williamsport Retirement Village Williamsport, MD.

Born, May 3, 1917 in North Dakota to the late William and Elga Carlson Garrett.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Rufus “Pete” Jessop in 2007.

She was a graduate of York High School York, PA.

She was a Homemaker.

She was a lifetime member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church Williamsport, MD. She was very active in her church and sang in the choir.

She worked at Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, MD during the 1940’s and also worked as a seamstress at Katie O’Connells Boutique in Hagerstown, MD and spent a lot of time sewing in her home and for the Bicentennial Celebration.

She was a charter member and Past President for the Potomac Garden Club.

She was a member of Potomac Post #202 American Legion Auxiliary Williamsport, MD and also a member of AARP.

Her life revolved around her loving family!

Marvin E. Mellott
7/22/1926 - 9/28/2012

Hagerstown, Maryland- Marvin E. Mellott-86 of Hagerstown, Maryland passed away on Friday September 28, 2012 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

Born in Sharpsburg, Maryland on July 22, 1926, he was the son of the late Harry Glenville and Ida Mae Knode Mellott.

He was a 1944 graduate of Williamsport High School and a graduate of Hagerstown Business College.

He served in The US Army/Air Force during WWII.

He worked at Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown and retired in 1989 from General Motors Corporation in Martinsburg, WV.

Marvin was a member of Downsville Christian Church, the Western Maryland Sportsman’s Club and IORM Conococheague Tribe #84 both in Williamsport, Morris Frock Post#42 American Legion in Hagerstown and was an associate at Cochrans Auction Complex in Boonsboro, MD

He is survived by his wife of 56 years S. Ruth Plummer Mellott and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by his sister Devona Forsythe.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday October 2, 2012 at 2PM at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 South Conococheague St. Williamsport, MD 21795 with Rev. Ernest E. Witmer officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport.

Charles Russell Harshman

Hagerstown, Maryland- Charles Russell Harshman-93 of Hagerstown passed away Friday September 28, 2012 at Julia Manor Nursing Center in Hagerstown.

Born on March 8, 1919 in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Ira Russell Harshman and Adeline Mae Burke Harshman Gigeous.

He was preceeded in death by his wife Velma Viola “Jean” Harshman in 2000.

He retired from Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown in 1983. He also worked as a mechanic at Hebb’s Garage in Hagerstown for over 50 years.

He was a member of Chewsville United Methodist Church and Hagerstown Lodge #378 BPOElks.

He is survived by a daughter Connie L. Anderson and a son Ronald L. “Peanut” Harshman and his wife Joanne all of Hagerstown, 4 Grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren and his beloved cat Jasper.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceeded in death by a son in law Ray Anderson, 2 half sisters Margaret Kelley and Mary Schrader and 3 half brothers Bud Harshman, Jim Harshman and Harold Gigeous.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday October 3, 2012 at 11am at the Osborne Funeral Home 425 South Conococheague St. Williamsport, Maryland 21795 with Rev. John W. Schildt officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport.

Born, September 27, 1936 in Middletown, MD to the late George Franklin, Sr. and Anna Virginia Rider Slifer.

He attended Middletown High School Middletown, MD.

He was employed as a Carpenter for the National Park Service in Sharpsburg, MD for the past 20 years. He previously worked in construction with his brother Delano for many years.

He was a veteran of the US. Army.

He was of the Lutheran Faith.

He was a member of IORM Tribe #84 Williamsport, MD, Amvets Post #38 Falling Waters, WV where he served as a past Commander.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his 4-wheeler and trips with many friends at the hunting cabin.

He was employed by the U.S. Government until retiring in 1982. He worked for the Army Map Service and the Topographical Command.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II.

He was member of American Legion Post #10 Clopper-Michael Boonsboro, MD.

He was a dedicated family man and loved by many.

He was a devout Yankee fan and a Patriotic American.
