HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Mary Paulette Young, 68, of Potomac Towers in Hagerstown, Md., died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Towson, Md.

Born July 25, 1942, in Big Pool, Md., she was the daughter of the late Leonard Haines and Irene Marie Miller Haines Wissinger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Leon "Spark" Young Jr., in 2002.

She previously was employed by Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include daughter, Christie L. Wallizer of Mercersburg, Pa.; daughter, Pamela S. Jenkins of Funkstown, Md.; son, William C. Moreland of Funkstown; stepfather, Wilbur Wissinger of Big Pool; brother, Neil Haines of Hagerstown; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and one grandson.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, from 10 a.m. to noon at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Md. The funeral home will be open Wednesday after 9 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport, with Pastor Ray Kipe officiating.

He was a 1954 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S Army.

He was employed by Rexel Electric of Hagerstown, MD until his retirement and was previously employed by Noland Company. Currently he was working part-time at Always Communications Hagerstown, MD.

He was a member of Beaver Creek Country Club, Conococheague Tribe #84 IORM Williamsport, MD, Potomac Post #202 American Legion Williamsport, MD.

HALFWAY - Evalene Mae Leaf, 92, of Halfway, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at her home.

She was born Feb. 12, 1918, in York, Pa., to the late William Irvin and Rhoda Elizabeth Reynolds Bollinger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert L. Leaf, in 1994.

She was a 1936 graduate of Hagerstown High School and graduated from the Washington County Hospital School of Nursing.

Besides being a loving wife and mother, she was a licensed funeral director, helping her husband, Albert, in the family business at Leaf Funeral Homes in Williamsport, Sharpsburg and Halfway, Md.

She was a member of Church of the Holy Trinity on Oak Ridge Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21740, and previously belonged to Williamsport United Methodist Church.

She is survived by four children, daughter, Diane E. Baker and her husband, Bob Baker, of Hagerstown, son, Frank A. Leaf and wife, Paula Hurbanis Leaf, of Hagerstown, son, John W. Leaf and wife, Kristen Leaf, of Indian Springs, Md., and daughter, Susan E. Wade and her husband, Rick Wade, of Williamsport, Md. She had 10 grandchildren: Dave Sprecher, Barbra Mowbray, Tasha Brown, Justin Leaf, Jessica Cooley, Melissa Mastrangelo, Heather Diritto, Ben Wade, Nathan Wade and Adam Wade. She also had 13 great-grandchildren: Willie Sprecher, Wauren Sprecher, Sean Dixon, Evan Dixon, Jordan Brown, Jadyn Cooley, Jurnee Cooley, Joseph Mastrangelo, Anthony Mastrangelo, Sophia Mastrangelo, Donovan Mastrangelo, Braeden Wade and Jaren Wade. Three other great-grandchildren are expected later this fall. She was also a great-great-grandmother to Carter Sprecher and Alexa Jones. She is also survived by her brother, Donald E. Bollinger, and his wife, Dorothy Bollinger, of Waynesboro, Pa.; niece, Jane Forney; and nephews, Mark Bollinger and Michael Britton.

Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Richard Bollinger.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Church of the Holy Trinity, 17085 Oak Ridge Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21740, with the Rev. Timothy Leighton officiating.

Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport.

Clear Spring, MD - Hartzell Geneva Hawbaker Rohrer, 92, of 151 Cumberland Street Clear Spring, MD died peacefully, Saturday, September 4, 2010 at her home.

Born in Mercersburg, PA on March 15, 1918, the daughter of the late George Dallas and Mary Elizabeth Keefer Hawbaker. Her husband of 47 years, Herman Samuel Rohrer, preceded her in death December 19, 1983.

Hartzell loved her family and her community. Spring to Fall she could be seen on her porch swing giving a friendly wave and greeting to all who passed by.

She was a charter member of the Clear Spring Post #222 American Legion Auxiliary, Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post #6241, Mercersburg, PA, Clear Spring Senior Citizens, a member of the Clear Spring Historical Society, and an avid card player.

Surviving are her daughter, Judith Sword of Mifflinville, PA, her son Roderick Rohrer and wife Phyllis of Clear Spring, MD, and special friend Barbara Caton-Miles of Big Pool, MD. She is also survived by sisters Edith Jane Keefer of Mercersburg, PA and Shirley Breakall and husband Gary of Hancock, MD, 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Gladys Eckstine, brothers Dean and Jack Hawbaker, and son-in-law, Jack Sword.

Burial will be private. There will be no viewing.

A memorial service will be Friday, September 10, 2010 7:00 pm, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 22 Cumberland St. Clear Spring. The Rev. Steven L. McCarty will officiate.

Scott Windle Banzhoff

Scott W. Banzhoff, 62, of Hagerstown, Md., peacefully passed away on Monday, Aug. 30, at Washington County Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Born May 6, 1948, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Earl and Betty (Bowman) Banzhoff of Williamsport, Md.

Scotty was a 1966 graduate of Williamsport High School and later attended Hagerstown Junior College. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. While he was in the Navy, Scotty was stationed in Washington, D.C. as a member of the Naval Honor Guard. After his discharge, Scotty began his long career in law enforcement and public safety. He first was a police officer with the Hagerstown City Police Department. He then became a correctional officer at the Maryland Correctional Training Center. He retired from MCTC in 2007 with the rank of Lieutenant. He was proud of his work and the career he had chosen.

Scotty was a hunting and fishing enthusiast. Over the years, he enjoyed taking his boat out on the Potomac River to fish, and he went on several fishing trips to New York and Canada. He also took many hunting trips to Wyoming, Colorado and Alaska. But Scotty always said he most enjoyed the times he hunted with his father-in-law in Armstrong County, Pa. Scotty was also a huge baseball fan who would watch any televised game. Over the years, he attended many games in Baltimore and Pittsburgh, but his favorite team was the Atlanta Braves. And if you knew Scotty, you also knew what team he didn't like. Scotty was a Penn State fan; liked to read; and enjoyed country music, history and trivia.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Debi; a daughter, Jessica Leigh of Hagerstown; his parents, Earl and Betty Banzhoff of Williamsport; one sister, Kathy Cathcart of State College, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his good friend and father-in-law, Emil J. Barto of Leechburg, Pa. Scotty was a loving and devoted son, brother, husband and father who will be sadly missed.

The family will receive friends at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. on Thursday for the convenience of family and friends.

Sylvia Jean Boyer, 89, of Hagerstown, Md., died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at the home of her daughter in Falling Waters, W.Va.

Born July 20, 1921, in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Ray Wilson Sr. and Gladys Ozelle Sharpe Weller.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Mark Covalt, in 1939; and her second husband, David Samuel Boyer, in 1998.

Sylvia graduated from Hancock High School in 1938 and was employed by Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown as an aircraft inspector.

She was a member of Antioch Christian Church in Big Cove Tannery, Pa., where she sang and played the piano. She also attended St. John's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.

Sylvia enjoyed gardening and helped manage several apartment buildings in Hagerstown with her late husband.

Survivors include daughter, D. Markay Hadley of Falling Waters; grandchildren, Lavona D. Heleine, Frank R. Hadley Jr. and Ray W. Hadley, all of Falling Waters, W.Va., Mark D. Hadley of Los Alamos, Calif., D. Scott Boyer of Big Pool, Md., and Kristie J. Kiser of Hagerstown; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, David A. Boyer; one brother, Ray W. Weller Jr.; and two great-grandchildren, Kyra L. Heleine and Damien L. Heleine.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Md., with the Rev. Ernest E. Witmer officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Tuesday one hour before services at the funeral home, which will open at 9 a.m.

Born, August 11, 1919 in Parkville, Maryland to the late Harvey Geist and Anna Knell Jones.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Marie Krumm Jones on March 3, 2006.

He was a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and attended Loyola College to pursue and receive the chartered property and casualty underwriter certificate.

He was employed by Ohio Casualty Insurance Company Baltimore, Maryland Branch office until retiring in 1984.

He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theater.

He was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church Taylor Ave. Baltimore, MD.

He was a member of the Railsplitters Society 84th Infantry Division Inc.

Harry Lewis "Fang" Britner, 66, of Hagerstown, Md., and formerly of Williamsport, Md., died Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore, Md.

Born Nov. 9, 1943, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Ronald Ogden Sr. and Dorothy Jane Irwin Britner.

He was a 1962 graduate of Williamsport High School, and graduated from Hagerstown Junior College and the University of Maryland.

He was employed by the Washington County Board of Education and taught biology at South Hagerstown High School for more than 31 years, retiring in 2000.

He was active with Britner's Produce Farm Stand for many years.

He was of the Methodist faith.

He was involved with the Boy Scouts of America.

He was a member of Eagles Club of Hagerstown and Westmoreland Glass Collectors Club.

LEITERSBURG - Daniel Charles Crone, 61, of Leitersburg, Md., died Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Md.

He was born July 23, 1949, in Hagerstown. He was the son of Charles Ray and Betty Jane Schildtknecht Crone of Hagerstown.

He attended South Hagerstown High School and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Staunton, Va.

He was a member of IBEW Local No. 26 of Washington, D.C., for 37 years employed as an electrician in the D.C. Metropolitan area.

He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Hagerstown.

He was a member of Elks 378 of Hagerstown and the Alsatia Club of Hagerstown, where he served as parade chairman, vice president and president.

He was a longtime coach and manager at Valley Little League and Senior League, and was organizer and manager of the Big League and Adult League.

He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda Rae Shingleton Crone of Leitersburg; daughter, Judith Anne Warren and her husband, Eric, and their sons, Corey, David and Austin, of Hagerstown; son, Heath Daniel Crone and his wife, Laurie, and their sons, Riley and Brody, of Mercersburg, Pa.; son, Brett Daniel Crone and his wife, Nicole, and their daughter, Jordyn, of Greencastle, Pa.; sister, Deb Cantler of Hagerstown; sister-in-law, Susi Rose of Bridgewater, Va.; best friend, Donald Ernst of Hagerstown; aunts; uncles; cousins; nephew; nieces; and many other close friends, including John McConnell and his wife, Shelly, and their son, Peyton; and his beloved yellow lab, Molly.

A memorial service will be held at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. with Dr. Renee Mackey officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service until 9 p.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

DOWNSVILLE - James Calvin Houser, 83, of Downsville, Md., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, at Washington County Hospital.

He was born July 13, 1927, in Downsville to the late Charles Buchanan II and Mona Arlene Downs Houser.

James dedicated his life to his family and farming.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lucille L. Rowland Houser; daughters, Gwendolyn Burcker and Ann Trotter; and sons, Michael Houser and Page Houser, all of Sharpsburg, Md.; son, James Houser Jr. of Big Pool, Md.; daughter, Kathleen Houser of Hagerstown; sisters, Betty Roney and Mary Ann Bowers; and brother, Charles Houser, all of Hagerstown; brother, Donald Houser of Downsville; 22 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport with the Rev. Dan Pritchett officiating.

The family will receive friends at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, MD 21795 on Friday from noon till 1:30 p.m.

WILLIAMSPORT - Mary Louise Scibilia, 69, of Williamsport, Md., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at Washington County Hospital.

Born in Hagerstown on March 9, 1941, she was the daughter of Mary E. Hartle Bushey of Cavetown, Md., and the late Frank Ewing Bushey.

Mary was a graduate of Smithsburg High School and a member of Morris Frock Post 42 Auxiliary of Hagerstown.

She was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and was devoted to her grandchildren, whom she loved very much.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John Albert Scibilia, in 2009; and is survived by a son, Albert John Scibilia and his wife, Jane; a son, Michael Todd Scibilia and his wife, Jennifer; and a daughter, Carrie Antoinette Scibilia, all of Hagerstown; and her grandchildren, Macy B. Scibilia, Miki R. Baltimore, Boomer C. Baltimore, Grayden J. Scibilia, Maya A. Peart, Gianna M. Scibilia and Sierra A. Scibilia. She also is survived by three brothers, 10 sisters and many lifelong neighbors and friends. In addition to her father and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother.

Graveside services will be Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Rose Hill cemetery in Hagerstown. Kevin Smoot will officiate. There will be no viewing.

WILLIAMSPORT, Md. - B. Joanne Snyder, 73, of Williamsport, Md., died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Md.

Born June 18, 1937, in Williamsport, to the late Harold Leonard and Bernice Maxine Betts Swope.

She was a 1955 graduate of Williamsport High School.

She was employed as a legal secretary with Mackley, Gilbert & Marks Attorneys at Law of Hagerstown, for 44 years until retiring in 1999.

She was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church, Williamsport, for 60-plus years. She served on the Administrative Board and Pastor/Parish Committee.

Survivors include her husband, Archie Glenn Snyder, married July 6, 1957, of Williamsport; daughter, Heidi Marie Wethered and her husband Bennett of Bristow, Va.; sister, June M. Farmer of Big Pool, Md.; and grandchildren, Hannah Wethered and Rebecca Wethered.

The family will receive friends at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. Wednesday for the convenience of family and friends.

Funeral services will be at the Osborne Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. James E. Swecker officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

Bruce Darwin Younker

HALFWAY, Md. - Bruce Darwin Younker, 63, of Halfway, Md., passed away Friday, July 23, 2010, at his home.

Born in Pectonville on March 2, 1947, he was the son of Bruce Onal Younker of Hagerstown and the late Lucille Virginia Cross Younker.

Bruce served in the U.S. Navy and worked at Citibank of Hagerstown. Prior to Citibank, Bruce worked at Grove Worldwide of Franklin County.

He was of the Protestant faith.

Bruce was a life member of AMVETS Post 10, Hagerstown, a member of Moose 2462 of Williamsport, Eagles 694 Hagerstown, Clear Spring Legion Post 222, AARP and he was the past president of the Williamsport High School Sophisti'Cats Boosters.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah Ann Younker, in 1985.

He is survived by his daughters, Dawn R. Reilly and husband, Mike, of Toronto, and Wendy M. Cohen and husband, Justin, of Las Vegas, Nev.; and his mother-in-law, Margaret F. Campbell of Williamsport, Md.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, MD 21795.

Burial will follow at Parkhead cemetery, Big Pool, Md., with military graveside honors provided by AMVETS Post 10 and The Marine Corps League of Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open Tuesday at 9 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends.
