EVELYN W. CLARKE (Age 100)
Of Takoma Park, MD passed away January 30, 2010. Her husband, Edwin, died in 1952 and her son, James, died in 2005. She leaves behind her daughter, Shirley Keller and son-in-law, Robert of Rockville, MD, her daughter-in-law, Eleanor Clarke, of Manassas, VA., her grandchildren, Susan, Bonnie, James, Donna, Robert and Jennifer, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was born in Ashland, VA on May 2, 1909 and moved to Washington, DC at the age of 19 to attend Washington School for Secretaries. She and her husband owned and operated Ed’s Diner in Northeast Washington, DC until the late 1940’s. She retired as Office Manager from Capitol City Real Estate in the mid 1970’s. She was an active member of the Memorial United Methodist Church of Silver Spring, MD until a few years ago. MARY LOUISE WACK
Mary Louise Wack died on January 29, 2010 at Manor Care Nursing Home in Potomac, MD, of Alzheimer’s Disease. Devoted wife for 50 years of the late Carl Joseph, Jr.; and beloved mother of Carl “Jay” III of Grasonville, MD, Donald Christopher (deceased 1968), Joanne Kathleen of Oxnard, CA, Michael Raymond of Rockville, MD, Patrisha Davis-Coupe of Potomac, MD, and Denis Martin of Rockville, MD. One of 12 children of Arthur and Ruby Davis, Mary Lou was born in 1925 and raised in the beautiful waterside town of Fleeton, VA, along the Chesapeake Bay. A survivor of the Chesapeake Bay Hurricane of 1933, Mary Lou later moved to Washington, DC, where she met Carl Joseph in 1946 and married
after a whirlwind courtship. Their family of eight ultimately settled in Rockville, MD. She was involved in numerous local charities, and was an especially active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir and served as President of the Sodality. She was a life-long Baltimore Orioles Baseball fan. She is survived by four of her siblings: Dorothy Gaines, Mildred Wack, Ruby Davis and Wilmer Davis; by her daughters-in-law Sandra, Nancy and Jennifer; by her grandchildren Scot, Monica, Alison, Carl Joseph IV, Christopher, Donald, Cody and Kaytlin; and by her great-grandchildren Chelsie, Amalie and Alden. Family and friends are welcome to attend a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 4 in the Little Chapel at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 520 Viers Mill Road, Rockville, MD, 20852, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven cemetery. Mary Lou will be laid to rest next to her husband Carl and son Donald. She was preceded in death by her three brothers and five sisters. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Silver Spring for over 50 years. Patricia worked for Safeway for 38 years in the Washington, DC area. She and her husband traveled extensively. Her hobbies included bowling, Scrabble and numerous outdoor activities. She is survived by generations of nieces and nephews in whom she inspired a deep love of family, faith and generous spirit.
