Mrs. Violet Musgrove
Dated: Friday, June 14, 2002.
Mrs. Violet P. Musgrove, 94, of Frederick, and formerly of Brookeville, died Wednesday, June 12, at College View Center in Frederick.

Twice married , she was the wife of the late Melvin L. Dove, her first husband; and the late Leonard D. Musgrove.

Born Feb. 20, 1908, in Mathias, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late James and Georgiana Shipe Mathias.

She had worked in the cafeteria at Sherwood School, Sandy Spring, before she retired.

She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Brookeville.

She had been an Avon seller and also a salesperson for Sarah Coventry Jewelry.

She liked to crochet, quilt and do needlepoint.

She is survived by three children, Zona D. Chapman of Boone, N.C., Genevieve McKelvie of Tampa, Fla., and Edward C. Musgrove of Frederick; four sisters, Myrtle Adams of Gaithersburg, Peggy Anderson and Theda Miller, both of Frederick, and Mavine Moore of Virginia; eight grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty L. Dove.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at Muriel H. Barber Funeral Home, 21525 Laytonsville Road, Laytonsville. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.

Interment will be in Flower Hill cemetery, Redland.

Ms. Ruth Harding
Dated: Friday, June 14, 2002.
Ms. Ruth Elizabeth Harding, 85, of Harbaugh Valley Road, Sabillasville, died Tuesday, June 11, at her home.

Born July 30, 1916, in Newton, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Charles Frederick and Sadie Mae Owens Miller.

Ms. Harding was employed at First National Bank of Boston, Bank of America and Academy of Business, both of San Jose, Calif., and Beverly Manor Nursing Home, Santa Cruz, Calif.

She was a member of St. Rita's Roman Catholic Church, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., and Clara Rebeckah Lodge of Santa Clara, Calif.

Surviving are one daughter, Judith L. Moore of Sabillasville; one son, John David Harding of Ben Lomond, Calif.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at St. Rita's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Sigfrid Troche as celebrant.

Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.

Mrs. Grace Reinaman
Dated: Friday, June 14, 2002.
Mrs. Grace Hoover Putman Reinaman, 91, formerly of Unionville, died Thursday, June 13, at Fahrney-Keedy Home and Village, Boonsboro, after a short illness.

Twice married , her first husband was Paul Henry Putman, who died in 1969. Her second husband was Bernie Reinaman, who died in 1996.

Born March 1, 1911, in Ellerton, she was a daughter of the late Cyrus Harley and Media Ellen Delauter Hoover.

Mrs. Reinaman was a member of Piney Creek Church of the Brethren, near Taneytown.

She enjoyed quilting and gardening flowers and vegetables.

Surviving are three sons, David P. Putman and wife Ann L. of Hagerstown, Wayne L. Putman and wife Mary Jane of Lewistown, and Kenneth G. Putman and wife Diane E. of Keedysville; four grandchildren, Gary A. Putman Sr., Valerie Sue Stakes, Gregory Scott Putman and Jason K. Putman; and four great-grandchildren, Gary A. Putman Jr., Timothy Scott Putman, Thomas James Putman and Kyle William Stakes.

Mrs. Reinaman was preceded in death by four sisters, Eva Singer, Este Harman, Mary Hoover and Florence Stover; and four brothers, Cyrus Hoover, Upton Hoover, Oscar Hoover and Russell Hoover.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 16, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 17, in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fahrney-Keedy Home and Village, 8507 Mapleville Road, Boonsboro, Md. 21713.

Mr. Casimir Orzechowski
Dated: Friday, June 14, 2002.
Mr. Casimir T. Orzechowski, 77, of Grand Rapids, Mich. and Frisco, N.C., died Monday, June 10, in Grand Rapids.

He was the husband of Frances Zemitis Orzechowski, his wife of 51 years.

Mr. Orzechowski, a son of Polish immigrants, fought in World War II as a U.S. Marine in the South Pacific and was later a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1.

After the war, he returned home and graduated as a mechanical engineer from Catholic University in Washington, where he met his wife. Mr. Orzechowski stayed in the Washington area until his retirement.

Mr. Orzechowski was a noted rocket scientist and inventor. He designed many rocket propulsions systems including that on the Sidewinder missile. He was named "Father of the Zuni Rocket" by his peers and was awarded a patent.

While working in the greater Washington area he was involved in many community and civic activities. He served as committee chairman for Boy Scout Troop 949, judged science fairs and ran election sites.

Mr. Orzechowski enjoyed many hobbies.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sisters, Alice Ellis and Betty Chipman; 10 children and 25 grandchildren, daughter Alice Orzechowski and husband Scott Hoyman, daughter Christine Neuenschwander and husband John, and children Cecylia Morrison, Cheyanne, and Christine, and son Michael Orzechowski and wife Bonnie and children Mathew, Katherine, and Mary, all of Frederick; son Casimir T. Orzechowski Jr. and wife Karen, and children Nicole, Ryan, Nathan and Rachel, daughter Patricia Roussel; daughter Karen Lee Orzechowski and husband Oleg Jankovic, and children Alexander, Salomea and Eugenia; daughter Sallie Gregor and husband Robert, and children Alison, Matthew and David; daughter Laurie Schiller and husband Thomas, and child Christian; son Kenneth Orzechowski and wife Cynthia, and children Timothy, Melissa, Elizabeth and Lucas; and son Thomas and wife Janet, and children Jeffrey, Samuel, Caitlin and Bradley.

Mr. Orzechowski was preceded in death by one brother, Stanley Orzechowski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Grand Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Casimir T. Orzechowski Scholarship Fund, 6550 Rock Spring Drive, Suite 240, Bethesda, Md. 20895.

Expressions of sympathy for Mr. Orzechowski's family may be mailed in care of Alt & Shawmut Hills Chapel, 2120 Lake Michigan Drive N.W., Grand Rapids, Mich. 49504.

Mrs. Doris Caniford
Dated: Saturday, June 15, 2002.
Mrs. Doris A. Caniford, 75, of Brunswick, who resided in Adamstown, died Friday, June 14, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

She was the wife of the late Jack F. Caniford.

Born July 26, 1926, in Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Clark G. and Lillian Speaks Price.

Mrs. Caniford was a 1943 graduate of Brunswick High School. She retired from the National Geographic Society in 1991.

She was a member of Eastern Star Chapter 97, Brunswick, and Bethany Lutheran Church, Brunswick.

Surviving are one daughter, Linda Ranneberger and husband Phil of Adamstown; one sister, June L. Utterback of Knoxville; four brothers, Donald H. Price and Gary Price, both of Knoxville, Richard Price of Gettysburg, Pa., and Wayne Price of Lexington; two grandsons, P. Bradley Ranneberger and wife Cindy of New Market, and Gregory F.C. Ranneberger and wife Allyson of Libertytown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Caniford was preceded in death by one brother, Clark G. Price Jr.; and her sister-in-law, Betty Jane Price.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 16, at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick. The funeral home will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 17, at the funeral home, with Pastor Lori Hoffman officiating.

Interment will be in St. Mark's cemetery, Petersville.

Miss Astiana Spoto
Dated: Saturday, June 15, 2002.
Miss Astiana Shya Casal "Asti" Spoto, 19, of New Market, died Monday, June 10, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.

She was a daughter of Coya L. Spoto of New Market, and Peter M. Spoto of Florida.

Surviving in addition to her parents are three sisters, Aisha, Apollina and Ahdazsa Spoto, all at home; and her grandparents, Baldassano Spoto and Barbara Danglise, both of Florida, Bonnie L. Smith of Baltimore, and Pedro A. del Casal of Texas.

Miss Spoto will also be remembered by her friends, Irene Wise of Baltimore, and Denzyl Balram of Montgomery County.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at Ruck Towson Funeral Home, 1050 York Road, Towson.

Interment will be in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, Towson.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Mission of Mercy, Project 01-034-110, P.O. Box 62600, Colorado Springs, Colo. 80962-2600.

Mrs. Ruth Fischer
Dated: Monday, June 17, 2002.
Mrs. Ruth E. Wilson Riley Fischer, 88, long-time Frederick resident, died Wednesday, June 12.

Twice married , her first husband was the late Dr. Vernon Todd Riley, whom she married in 1936. Her second husband was the late Hermann Fischer.

She was born in St. Louis, Mo.

Mrs. Fischer moved from St. Louis to Spokane, Wash., where she attended Holy Names College and Cheney Normal School. She taught in Curlew, Wash.

She and her second husband owned Braddock Heights Ski Ways and the Schley Inn near Frederick.

Mrs. Fischer was a seamstress, interior decorator and gardener. She was the recipient of awards for her fashions and rug hooking. She worked as a real estate broker in Montgomery County, as well as a district insurance manager. She also worked in banking. She was an antiques dealer in New Market.

She was a member of the PTA, League of Women Voters, and Questers and Business and Professional Women. She was elected to the World Who's Who in Commerce and Industry. She was co-founder of the Rockville Civic Association, a member of the Tourism Council of Frederick, and on the Governor's Conference on Recreation and Parks. She served as president of both the Homemakers and Soroptimist clubs of Frederick. She was included in the Montgomery County library board of directors.

Mrs. Fischer continued to volunteer at "Read Aloud" when she moved to Fenwick Island, Del. She was a member of Fenwick Island Baptist Church.

She last lived at Manresa Assisted Living, Atria, in Annapolis and at Cherry Lane Nursing Center, Laurel.

Surviving are three children, Dr. E. Anne Riley and Dennis V. Riley Sr., both of College Park, and Michael F. Riley of Columbus, Ohio; and one brother, Glen B. Wilson of California.

Memorial services were held Sunday, June 16, at Riverdale Baptist Church, 1177 Largo Road, Upper Marlboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 64421, St. Paul, Minn. 55164.

Mr. William Black
Dated: Monday, June 17, 2002.
Mr. William Frederick Black, 79, formerly of Cape May Court House, N.J., but recently a resident of Summerford Place, 2100 Whittier Drive, Frederick, died there Sunday, June 16.

He was the husband of Lorretta Teresa Huth Black, whom he married Sept. 6, 1952.

Born May 8, 1923, in Albany, N.Y., he was a son of the late William and Agnes Gensheimer Black.

Mr. Black was a member of Our Lady of Angels Roman Catholic Church, Cape May Court House.

He was an aircraft mechanic and retired from Boeing Co., Philadelphia, after 38 years.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Thomas Michael Black and wife Ana of Coatesville, Pa.; two daughters, Kathleen Marie Townsend and husband Frank of Greensburg, Pa., and Christine Louise Muffi and husband William of Frederick; five grandchildren, Kimberly Devlin Townsend, Jonathan Ryan Black, Nicholas Muffi, Morgan Elizabeth Black, and Ryan Muffi; and one sister, Mary Dippo and husband William of San Antonio, Texas.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, at Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Home, 1201 N. Market St., Frederick. The Rev. Lawrence Frazier, of St. Joseph's on Carrollton Manor Roman Catholic Church, will officiate.

Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, Md. 21702.
